    1.08 Troubleshooting thread.

Have you try contact securom with the analysis file attach ? I have not done that yet, but I will now. My game does not even get to the splash screen, let alone past it. How would I be able to see what version the game sees itself as, eh? That aside, the patcher does say that it applied the patch without any errors. I completely uninstalled the game, ran a few different registry cleaners, reinstalled, and the same problem occurred. - dRb

    1.08 Troubleshooting thread.

As mentioned many times previously in this thread, my game refuses to run. The hourglass icon becomes visible for three to five seconds and then disappears. The disk drive is called but no check-box series appears nor does a spinning disk icon. I've updated to the newest nVidia video card drivers, directX, and also replaced my openAL as told. No change in behavior or outcome. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. - dRb EDIT: Specifications c2d E6600 @ 2.4 ghz (default) 2gb 3200 DDR2 RAM nVidia 7900GTX /w 512mb RAM Windows XP SP2 /w all latest updates

    ArmA Public Beta Patch 1.05.5143

Run the game through the startbetapatch.bat file, not the normal executable and a -mod tag. This should work. I was having the exact same issue. - dRb
  4. Shadow detail on low turns off the rendering of shadows upon grass. It will drastically help with your lag issue. - dRb

    Marek's Comment on Tools...

Corrections... 1. Questioning BIS' actions doesn't make tools become developed and released faster. If they somehow do, they're going to be buggy and less desirable by the community. 2. Suggestions that could be helpful for the community should be stated as such, not as oblivious, childish rants. 3. The only people that are being taken serious around are people whose sole existence doesn't revolve around groaning, moaning, and complaining. - dRb
  6. Hello everyone. Here is a new mission for all of you to try and give some feedback on. Please don't mirror on any big sites as it isn't quite finished yet. However, feel free to put it on dedicated servers to try it out. Some additional information... Style: Coop Player Amount: 20 Special: Loadouts, Time and Weather Selection This mission is a two-pronged attack on the city of Estrella located on the far west side of southern Sahrani. Alpha is an infantry squad inserted south-west of the city. Their main job is to attack the city head-on and eliminate all SLA resistance. Bravo's role is to attack a small camp out the outer edge of the of the city's limits. A SLA Officer, Colonel Ratulo, is there to analyze the city's defence and speak with a nearby Especas group. Â After the Colonel is eliminated, they will help clear the city as well. NOTES: The mission currently does not have a briefing or overview. These will be done soon! To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

Sometimes it also works with the SAW but only sometimes, you can walk, side step and the SAW doesnt kick or spread much. Â Â . That is true. The SAW is incredibly accurate in this game, even while standing. But nothing a little number tweaking wouldn't fix.... - dRb

An open letter to the ArmA community.

Correction: Morphicon and Cenega showed their disrespect for people in Germany and Czechoslovakia by forcing the release of a buggy game. While BIS is responsible for the programming, the game simply wasn't complete and couldn't have ever been completed within Morphicon/Cenega's time limits. If you want to blame someone, I recommend you point the finger at them... - dRb

Too bad it's redicuously inaccurate to shoot the PKM full-auto while standing, let alone while moving..... - dRb

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

Still, I'll take an organized (not necessarily pretty) window over scrolling through the action menu for years... It's actually quite nice when you're doing some guerilla tactics. Bring up your gear menu and throw down some RPG rounds next to your buddy. I can't think of many other ways to do it aside from the action menu. So it's one minor annoyance I can live with.... - dRB

    Demo Troubleshooting thread.

The "take lag" is just that, lag. There are not enough dedicated servers to meet the demands, which means there are players with 300kbs dsl trying to host 20+ people... Not going to happen! - dRB

So why not have messages come up with whats going on and why does it list locked servers as available? Its insane that you have to join dozens of games in the hope of finding one that actually going. Now that's a good question! - dRb

That is because you were picking a spot where the AI had already died. This is the host's fault, not yours. Hosts need to not enable AI unless they really need them.... That is because the server was locked. - dRB

Suma has mentioned in the troubleshooting forum that it is impossible to turn off HDR without practically turning off all the game's lighting system entirely! I wish I could turn it off too, but it's not possible... - dRb

    Big Lod problems!

I too am having the same problems... AMD FX-55 San Diego 939 2gb DDR 400 RAM nVidia 7900GTX /w 512mb Audigy 2ZS ABIT AN8 Ultra Motherboard Windows 2000 Pro SP4 Not at all a horrendous system, even if it is DDR and single-core. Â It has very little problems with similarly modern games with similarly powerful graphics. The strangest thing of all for ArmA is that the game runs almost the same regardless of the settings. I believe this is due to the poorly optimized foliage/grass. The game looks amazing with all settings at very high, especially the shadows. Â But after taking the HMMWV through Carazon towards North Sahrani, the game really, really begins to lag. So, of course, I lower my settings down, down, down... Still a lot of stuttering and jolts. Mind you, this is with only one unit in the mission editor. My video card settings are set to highest performance and it's only had a very marginal affect on the game's performance. I really have no clue or solution to get these problems fixed. I don't want to play without shadows on a system I spent as much money as I did. Gah! Frustration! - dRb EDIT: And yes, I have the most updated drivers for all the components that need them. I have very little things running in the background, including services. I even made my desktop all black and wiped out all desktop icons except for those needed... Still, very little progress!

    -maxmem -nosplash crash

Affirmative. That's what I've been doing. Has there been any cofirmation of how much maximum memory ArmA uses if you don't put in the command line at all? I am very, very curious... - dRB

    -maxmem -nosplash crash

A strange thing keeps happening to me with the -maxmem command line as well. Whenever I go over 1024 in value, the game will eventually crash after about 10-20 minutes of play. However, I have 2048mb (2gb) of RAM? Does the game simply have a maximum value allowed for this command? - dRb

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

When you say "playing full english version," do you mean that all menus AND audio are in English? Also, someone should update the first post of this thread, to include info on Sprocket. All of the text is in English and the only audio that's still in a foreign language is the reporter during a few of the cutscenes in the campaign. But there are subtitles (which would be in English). - dRb

    Helicopters in AA

Reading this thread is like watching the ball in a tennis match! So BIS has amended the heli flight model and as a result has pleased some but pissed off others! Please can someone configure your controls as advised.... ... Then make a flight video of the Cobra going through all the control inputs in sequence (as with my FSX and BlackAlphas physics videos), so that us ArmAless souls can get some idea of the changes to the FM? Â I'm sorry but my performance in ArmA is so borderline right now that it would be impossible for me to make a video about it. However, I can take a screenshot or two and explain this is in much greater detail .... My control scheme W - Increase acceleration S - Decrease acceleration A,MouseLeft - banking left D,MouseRight - banking right X - rudder left C - rudder right Z,MouseDown - Nose down Q,MouseUp - Nose up Now for a while I took a break from OFP (given the cheater plagued multiplayer community and other stuff) and played BF2. Gasp! I know! Blasphemy! But it was fairly fun and defintely was a great waster of time until ArmA came out (I was waiting hands and knees for the game to finally arrive at my door). During my BF2 playing, I flew quite a bit of helicopters where, I felt, the controls (NOT THE PHYSICS) were very well layed out. Moving the mouse left/right banked the helicopter left/right. Moving the mouse up/down nosed the helicopter up/down. It was very comfortable and I felt as if I was in complete control of the helicopter! However, ArmA did just that but it also took off the training wheels. No longer do I have the never-ending auto-height correction software loaded into the flight computer. No longer can a pilot go alone with a cobra and omgwtfpwn everything in sight (at least easily). You must begin to slow down well in advance but not nearly as bad as in OFP. It is quite possible to follow a road through a city, pull a hard pitch, and land the choppter right in the middle of the street between apartment buildings. In OFP, it would've taken me a few passes, I would have to creep in at around 15, and land from a dead hover, else slide around like a fish at an ice rink. The turn left/right options are incredibly silly and I have no clue as to why they were even put in as a setting option. What it does is bank the direction you want AS WELL AS apply the rudder to that direction as well, causing a very strange diagnal slide sensation. It ends up doing the exact opposite of what it states it does - turning. Absolutely hilarious and just plain strange in my honest opinion. Like methamphetamines - just don't do it! Now I haven't tried the controls on a joystick and probably never will only because I am doing perfectly fine with keyboard/mouse. But I do not think I can emphasize enough that everyone wishing to fly helicopters (or planes for that matter) must check their settings. Before I had a very strange sliding effect going on (turn left/right in action) and I was getting very frustrated, even in 1.02. After figuring out that little quibble, everything is great and I never want to pull myself away from the chopper seat! - dRb

    Helicopters in AA

After installing 1.02 and remapping my keys to make the mouse bank left/right as well as pitch up/down, my flight experience has completely changed. I can now smoothly fly any helicopter in the game and perform the tasks that were layed out for that aircraft to perform. Although the Cobra is the only real helicopter that's being of any real challenge at the moment, this new flight engine is greatly improved over both the previous (buggy) one, and even OFP's. All IMHO though.... - A very happy helicopter pilot named dRb EDIT: If you're having any problems flying the helicopters with your keyboard/mouse, make sure that you have all the settings correctly placed. I'd recommend setting mouse left/right to bank left/right (NOT TURN left/right). Turn left/right is for lazy people who like to have their banking and rear-rotor movements tied together. It's highly unrecommended and makes the movements feel clumsy.

    official complaint to BIS

It was just a thought! For sure if they spent a lot of their time here on the forums, they'd have that much less time to work on implementing/fixing stuff. Now I may not have all of my information straight, but I don't know if their PR department is adequate enough for trying to take on such a daunting task. No offence to Placebo, of course... - dRb
