Joystick Sensitivity Adjusments in v1.02 Patch
DaSquade replied to Paco454's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
New pc, new joystick (X52)... So i tried to setup my new joystick, although some stuff is bugged in 1.07 due to Xbox controller afaik, but somehow i again have problems with setting the trust. Like previous, but afaik i had fixed it for my old microsoft precision one, i now have again the +00000-0000+ input for the trust where the + is input and 0 doesn't respond. So in other words, i would like to have full trust input for center (50% marker on saitek) untill the end and not only the last few milimeters. PS: i tried the cfg but again somehow it didn't resultated in any good feedback. PS: someone with a good saitek profile is also always welcome (in the hope i can use more buttons on the sticks). -
Some Modern Russian Boomsticks
DaSquade replied to nephilim's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Without derailing the topic: @Vila: Well indeed you have the 'face' counter and 'point' counter. No mather if your faces are poly or tri, it will count the number of modeled faces in what ever 'mode' they are. So what Jenny more or less wanted to know is what is your model made out? Full poly (quad) or fully tri's or mix of bought. As quick test, simply select your model and press the triagulate button (/ here). Meaning like said above i think, a 1500 poly model will then be 3000 tris model. If it was a mix, mostly already done in the model during building it to avoid bad lightning or wrong face direction splitting (->clipping), the number will somewhere between then. -
Like Froggy mentioned, i have a cougar (6x6 variantions and 4x4 variations) in development. Already a lot is done, but still a lot needs to be done. As a mather of fact most stuff is on hold atm untill i get confirmation about the interieur and get more info regarding the multiple variations that are out on the battlefield atm.. Anyway, no pics yet as i can't promise anything. At time something needs to be told, i will . Anyway, let's not highjack Forggys topic...

Little update: Well in the TrackIR setup tool it runs as it should now, but ingame it again starts to loose track at times. Very strange. Normally i should have all the latest drivers, bios and software... I checked your advice regarding the power shutdown feature, witch i have disabled now, but i still receive track loose ingame (only). I checked the consumed power of the trackIR and it comes down to 286 mA witch should be ok as that port can handle up to 500mA (will check in a few if it goes up during game use, but i daught it). Help . EDIT: more test info So i don't have the issue when ArmA isn't running. When i test with ArmA running i have the issue. Meaning, ingame and also when ArmA is on the background and i test it in the previewer of TrackIR. It works normally for about 5-10sec (depends) and then freezes. When i press the recenter button it automaticly works fine again, but then again after a sort time it freezes/lags again. EDIT: Latest test news I think i found what was bugging. As i have my new system and still do a lot of monitoring and one of the things running almost contantly new atm is...NTune, the NV monitoring tool. When i closed it, trackIR seams to run stable now .

I'm just finished installing my new system and came to the point to check my TrackIR 4 pro (no trackclip, only vextor). I noticed i have the same problem like the other few guys, where the tracker looses track of the dots at random times. The device itself isn't running hotter then normally and it worked perfectly under my previous system. I tested purely in the software itself (so no gamelag, witch i don't have anyway ). I had installed latest version (Version 4.1.030 - Final B), uninstalled it again and made sure the check for updates wasn't on (witch was off on previous tests), but still the 'lag' is there. Like said, fully new system made out: E6600 EVGA 8800GTX KO ACS3 StrikerExtreme 2gb Kit Corsair XMS 4-4-4-12 74Gb and 150Gb raptors drives SoundMax (soundcard by default on striker) as main hardware parts. All updates (BIOS and drivers) too latest versions (except for EVGA where i atm running 'their' latest released drivers. Like said, system runs perfectly, meaning no lag at all on 1280x1024 VB 3000 All very high-high. But like mentioned, in the profile tester of the software it already gives me the intercuptions. Only thing i can think of might be the USB factor, as i currently use multiple devices on it. But my trackIR is connected directly in the mobo USB ports and i didn't encountered any power problems on any of my other devices (including Wacom witch was during the tests unplugged, but i know this one consumes a big deal of power by default, but like said unplugged but knowing this one runs perfect on the USB ports so i think it isn't a power issue after all). Any suggestions Vincent or others? Was wondering if some of the other who encountered simular problems were able to get it fixed... Like said it runned perfectly on my previous system (3Ghz, 1Gb, 9800pro) so i know it isn't my trackIR itself. Looking at the release date of the latest driversoftware version it could be i had used an older version, although not sure and have been playing some days ago and afaik i had done update, but not 100%. On the other hand, if i see the last post of the ones having problems was before latest release date i don't think it is a driver issue. Please help :s. EDIT: Well, apperently the 'lag' was indeed USB power related. Somehow, the default USB ports are USB1 or underpowered/slower USB2 port. Now connected to the expanded USB2 slotcard and so far so good . So maybe it helps others to make sure you have a 'real' USB2 port...

Most appreciated Sabre! And offcourse a guide would be the cherry on the pie, but indeed no need to let it delay the rest .

Like other i can see the 'bad' thing about too many servers. Ok, you might be correct overall servers will have less packed/crowed houses. But (at least from what i have seen last time i checked) if you put the list on max. players you will see a max. of 15-20 servers maybe that has a player count of 1 to +30 on it. In the end i suppose (non clan members etc) will join one of those servers anyway, so your point is valid imho. Also, if you check the missions played on that gamespy list you notice two or not much more things: A: If it is coop, in most cases it is Evolution vX.X ->Ok, reminds me of OFP time with Battlefield if not mistaken. As for Evo, ok I liked it but like our 'clan/team' SES has recently decided. We no langer run it on the server. Because we noticed join time is in some case rediculous and we prefure to have non-respawn mission as it kills the spirit of true coop and only attracks XX rambos and other 'look at MY stats' guys/girls. For those who do want to play Evo, have a pick at 95% of those other crowed servers. B:The rest are CTF-DM-and what ever other type of run-run, killkill type of mission (most of our team doesn't like). So i guess in my opinion there can be as much of servers the internet can provide. In the end after some time you will find 'that one' server you prefure the most and will stick by it. Beside the reason Second mentioned, i think there are a lot of peolpe just want to have there own server (if active on it or not).

In case you are refurring to the MCATS or glass armoured protection, i think a lot are very happy and issued type is availible for them and they no longer need to custom made them thereself (afaik). Bizarre or not. Unless you are refurring to the front domes on it. I know offtopic, but i was wondering if those are IED jammers or some kind of radio comunication receivers?

I do agree SOUND is one of the many things that broke or makes a game. Like about mentioned, BIS might of put the sound part on low priority due to extreme costs and like also mentioned they can't 'use' copyrighted stuff. I know a normal recording studio (semi-high professional) charges bloody expensive prices to rent it and on the other hand all recordings need to be made in a special (reverb-halm free) room as in case of EAX it is the hardware and engine is taking the roll of adding extra effects. I agree modern soundcards should be able to handle this (like mentioned in other topic and if it was worth to buy creatives X-Fi with build in ram, but as mentioned by Dwarden if not mistaken, not much game devs make us out of it). In the end is it all worth it, when sound packs like FDF can come up with more or less the effect we want. Offcourse it isn't perfect (sounds with reverb build-in), as envirement is the key in how a riffle/pistol/missle/IED etc sounds. As it is depended on what the invirement is...Not 100% sure but so will a riffle sound somehow different been fired in open/desert areas then when in urban areas where in last case it will have a lot of reverb due to sound waves flowing back and forward between the many structures. So the question is, what will be most realistic. I'm sure it can be simulated almost realistic, see the introduction of envirement blokking sound source in ArmA (heli behind hill compaired to over hill). Personally i haven't checked out if this works for any other sounds like riffle fire and simple things like the car horn. Just my opinion.
-
Now that is some work to be prowed off. One of the most realistic wear and tear i have ever seen. Notice how 'fresh out of the shop' my spector and the other stuff in the pictures look compaired to your work . I think a lot of texture 'artists' could learn out of this if you would have the time to make a form of guide over this . In the end don't we all want to learn...Keep it up.

Since the ArmA 02 forums are now created and open, does that mean the tools are availible aswell . Correct me if mistaken.

Any feedback for those who tested that joystick mixer? I was planning to 'upgrade' my old sidewinder (i encountered decallibration problems with it after a while ingame + sometimes a bug related to joystick i think). So i decided to go for the Saitek X52 and maybe if that joystick mixer works i would go for the saitek pendals aswell. In case that didn't worked or had issues, maybe the BIS dev's could please reply if there is already any progress on the missing dual input for ArmA and if so, when a possible release date of it in a patch could be expected.

First of all, thanks Dslyecxi for putting your time in this. Very handy and usefull guide (although a lot of info was already covered in other forms and might not be all to 'new', but still the more guides the more change someone actually uses it ingame ). As for the point if it is useable ingame or not. I would say, defenatly yes. There is indeed a valid point that all these 'rules' can cause some delay on the battlefield and delay can cause s**t happens in between the rules...and need a new chain of commands etc...But in the end, it is all about teamplay and getting it to the next level imho. Ok, one can rambo and do a better job (with or without loss of life), but in the end it is what you want the game to be for yourself (and clan/team). One thing i learned to enjoy was with good coms (by the book or not) and good tactics (again by the book or not) you can get more things done good then solo. It also give me a better fealing when you acheaved a objective by using tactics and good coms... Sadly it takes a lot of practice, a good team and motivation to keep it up through the full session, if you understand. Anyway, keep up the good work Dslyecxi and hope to see more use of your guide on servers although most of it will only be used inside clans or teams witch take it more seriously then the average gamer.

Afaik they were used in Iraq/Afghanistan aswell (i think remember seeing HMWWV's witch one wrapped on the back trunk). But could be i'm wrong and now-a-days they are completly out of the scene... Side not: afaik at least the TIP's were often used (layed op on ground) by units itself to mark a friendly position during air support missions.
-
Additionally, lets not forget the useable TIP panel while we are at it . Same principle afaik, with only difference they are very visible at day due to orange colour. But afaik these TIP are mostly used on top of vehicle to be identified by air support (in case they don't have any IR beackon build inside the vehicle). ->shop examples of TIP Feel free to shoot me if wrong info was provided.

Thanks for that wiki guide psycosmos. So i think we can say BIS made a small mistake then. In the end no big deal (if you leave out the realisme fact, unless you are leaning throughwords a non NATO country ). But might be confusing if you really would use the mils in MP and communicate between standard BIS compass users and 'mod' compass (6400) users. Anyway, from what i have experienced on many public server communication is pretty low anyway, and compass use is often not done. I suppose if you are in a clan (we used to use mils alot in 'clan' MP) and it is a mather of making the decission to use the mod(6400/6300) or not. EDIT: maybe a poll regarding the suggestion throughward BIS to go for the 6400system (could include the standard 6000 and the 6300 for our Swedish brothers/sisters and see who prefures what the most). While they are at it let them make a more readable one and maybe a upwards scalled version .
-
As Synide i agree i prefure mils over degrees . But your input is appreciated. EDIT: Like i pm'ed Synide, i did an attempt to retexture the BIS compass aswell (based on the VBS compass, so for personally use and test only!. But i discovered, as i hadn't noticed before somehow, that apperently the BIS compass is based on different mills then the VBS one, witch afaik is what it should be. Meaning, from what i googled, normally mills goes from 0 to 6400 (64) where 6400 is also 0. BIS one on the other hand has reading going from 0 to 6000 (60) . Not sure if BIS just made a simple mistake or it is based on a different kind of compass, but last i just simply dought. 'Since realisme counts ' and i would prefer using the 6400 based mils reading this offcourse will have it downsides as if one with the mod reads a mill the other without the mod will have a different angle on the mils. Sadly for me i just couldn't get my retexture to show up ingame (very strange), but the mill mistake of BIS makes me wonder what to do... In case BIS made a mistake, maybe BIS should consider retexturing theirs and meanwhile make sure it is good readable (i prefer the white background with black mills and red degrees ). This looks like an easy task to be done in a patch. Jees if BIS wants my retexture even just to check, but in the end i assume they have access to the VBS one and have even their copyrights over it to use.
-
Any pics of your WIP would be welcome or even a alpha/beta of it would be appreciated. I must agree i find it a bit sad BIS didn't spend (what like 1h or so for a pro?) some extra time in what i feel is like a vital instrument when going to the battlefield. I had hoped our discusion in the past (ArmA suggestions or something like that) would of brought this to BIS attention and a lot of people actually use this instrument a lot and relay on the acruaty of it. Most of the time you just don't have the time to 'guess' mils and from my online experience it mostly end in a rought N-N-E or simular reading . I haven't experiment with it (appart from looking up the textures etc). But a more readable version would be more then welcome... Bit offtopic: But i noticed it isn't possible anymore (not sure pre patches) to bring up your compass when in scope view where afaik in the other engines you could do that. Ok, maybe this is maybe some form of realisme, but imho it goes into the flow of gameplay...where you need to 'lower' your scope (one click) bring up compass (second click) and bring up your scope (third click) and hope you didn't lost your target during this few seconds....Maybe it is simply a mather of cfg trick, but imho an important piece to get into.

Quote from Rockape: after i asked him if he knews more about it... Guess i should of eliminated you for this one . Original: Humber Pig @ War & Peace Show 2006 Guess that answers my question i was about to PM you I like it though, but guess it is a restoration job with a modern style paint job. Any info (PM) is welcome.. Anyway, your turn .
-
An other easy one (from what i heard): Blacked out some parts...but guess that won't make it much harder.
-
Maybe you didn't noticed, but i modified my previous post (apperently during your post). If that isn't the FV222 Conqueror ARV Mk II i need a new pair of glasses.
-
Feel free to kick me, but (wild guess again): EDIT: make that the FV222 Conqueror ARV Mk II.
-
Lol afaik i came across this one when searching for the pic or Ironsight. Wild guess: Korea?
-
Indeed, Ultra AP (Armored Patrol). 'Space' shape gave it away i guess . Your turn...
