  1. whereas the SAS were there first and the rest of them came after :P

Out of watching Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and Enemy at the Gates, how many do you honestly think they know that sort of information?

The movies I listed above are the main contributing factors to a huge majority of armchair jingo-generals under the age of fifteen.

Special Forces sounds neat, but it only shows what EA has in mind. There are some real issues I would think they would want to address first before starting making another new game.

  2. Great... uber 1337 SAS is just what the little kiddies want.

You have too high hopes for the BF2 Comm. Most of them will cream pants at sights of Navy Seals, and then condemn the Spetz and the SAS as cheap rip offs.

  3. They have released SDK now, dont know if that will improve anything.

My negative thoughts on the game is; too small and linear maps along with some really stupid missions ala blowing up poles on a field while germans respawn around you. Come on, I thought they said it was gonna be authentic.

I think it's too little too late. This should have been released in May when people were actually interested and looking forward to modding it.

  4. No matter how bad the game is (to you), you keep coming back!

I'm still coming back in hope to see someone has released a realism mod so the game suits my taste.

Well, considering that we all play OFP, we all should know that making a mod takes a very long time.

What do I expect? Sometimes a little more. It seems that the most favorable thing to do when a BF game comes out is to beat the horse despite death. Maturity levels drop as soon as a BF thread creeps around. Opinion and speculation is one thing, but general distasteful comments taken one after another is annoying generally because it serves little purpose (some I'd guess at borderlining/is spam). I find little effort in posting any realism mod news in this thread when all people are going to do is pick at every-single-detail and not even bother because it's not 'realistic' enough for them. Scoff, turn their backs, and walk away. I *know* it's not going to be enough because it never is going to be enough for this crowd. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yeah, I agree, a realism mod would be great. I'm waiting for one too. Inaccuracy is annoying, general hit-death shots is annoying, but I still play it despite. You don't, I have no problem with that. But I thought the general idea was to avoid something you don't like. Its hard to carry on a discussion or bother bringing information you find with a group to people who continue to do nothing but nit-pick despite anything, and I think overall it's just the name you guys hate so much not actually the game. I mean, OFP had it's own inaccuracies and issues.

  5. 1) a few mindless rounds will make me sleepy. 2) it's going to hard-lock the system in short order, so that makes an easy out to pull the plug.

hehehe  rofl.gif  too bad I uninstalled that sleeping medicine long ago.

I dunno, I'm sensing a strong sense of denial from all of you. No matter how bad the game is (to you), you keep coming back!

Stabbing yourself in the arm, or just ruining the thread for everyone else who enjoys the game?

  6. Yeah, this fix is stupid and EA's incompetency is beginning to shine brighter than usual. I will continue to play the game, now and then, until they definatly fix the problem. I had no issues playing the game before. But now I do. banghead.gif

  7. I no longer consider Gamespot a serious invention. The last month I've lost all my faith in them.

I never liked Gamespot anyways. Their reviews, especially for the PS2, just seem way too off whenever I rent or play a game they rank low.

  8. Dont even think of buying it if your graphic card is slower than a Radeon 9800 Pro. The demo runs much smoother than the full version... some maps are basically only pixel sandstorm and smoke... and this is pretty tough on your hardware

Not entirely true. I only have 512mb of Memory and a Radeon 9600 (mind you, wiht its own 256mb) and I can run the game great with a few settings set on medium.

  9. Parvus,

In the demo I can't get graphics anywhere near that!! How did you get those?

... as shadow wrote:newer graphicards gives you that image ...

but i'm a hardware *exaggerate (dont know the engl. word for *Angeber)

Closest I can come up with Angeber is "show off".

I'm mixed on buying the game. I might just buy Mortal Kombat for my Playstation instead or LOMAC. Too many choices, its that this BF game just wasn't that good compared to the last ones. Since my Video card isn't top of the line, it dosn't even look that good in comparison to BFV.

  10. Edit: ShinRaiden - ever been to the Combat Mission forums? That's probably what the guy is talking about. It's rather (in)famous for it's flaming debates over such obscure things as Bren Gun tripods and the existance of IS-3 tanks in the Fall of Berlin.

While I think that such people who bitch, whine and flame about such things are a tiny minority, they are, in my experience, a very vocal minority.

Uh, I agree. I signed up there and looked around for a bit, but they take some things way too intensly. Even if it isn't represented in the game, they want it represented in the numbers. Always bickering about the most obscure things, as you say. Left mainly in bemusement, looked back, and left instead more confused.

I miss manuals, even if they were filler material or useless. Janes ATF had a manual, but despite being one of the easiest SIM's I've ever encountered, it had pages of dogfighting maneuvers and the such. I also miss the older RPG's or strategy games that had huge manuals, mostly on the universe. Homeworld's manual was a pleasent shock, being so huge and full of information. Clan backgrounds, ship design info, history of the planets, etc. Things you'd never even think about.

I tried the LOMAC demo, and was so very lost without a manual. I fiddled with settings until I found something comfortable, but even then it was hard to even switch to the right weapon. It was cool, having a mirage kick my ass eight times in a row for my once catching it by surprised with a missile. Makes me want to try Falcon, which my brother has downstairs. Heard it's got a whole load of patches and stuff, so smile_o.gif

After watching The Beast awhile ago, I've been in some need of tank action. I'm hoping they're releasing a demo for T72BOF. Looks awsome. Do they have multiplayer? It sounds like fun having online players controlling each station facing either fellow tankers or AI controlled tin cans. I'm an infantry man myself, but I'm willing to strap myself into a coffin sometimes.

Overall, I agree. The market is becoming less and less inclined to try and put effort into simulator games and instead drop the money into more profitible and easier to make shooters that anyone will pick up. Hell, I'm one of those 'anyones' whistle.gif As long as the words "16-64", "Shooter", and "Online" are in a games features then it will most likely be gobbled up by the teeming masses that do not seem to try anything else. I don't hold it against these people, they're no more dumb and zombie-like than we are. Sim games for the majority require a bit of thinking and skill in the hands of the player (and patience), of which in todays point of view eats too much time up. Not very many people are willing to spend four hours trying to figure out a game and then go to sleep. I am, but I'm also a night owl.

All I can say for simulators is really: doin the best they can. With a more limited market than Trainz, then I can see a situation where money will be scarce. Hopefully more will be made, but it probobly won't be for a long time now.

As for Console Ports, uck. Only one or two have actually worked, the rest fail miserable as the cross-platform control and system issues become apparant. PC always seems to be the last to get anything to. (Speaking of ports, I actually still have the 10 Minutes Halo E3 preview before Microsoft ported it to Xbox. Looked better then than it does now)

  11. Game actually runs great for the # of guys you can fit on the screen. I hate about 19 Groups of soldiers on at once and it ran great. That is, until the massive screaming horde of Russians descended on the single Axis squad and tore em up.

But it's usually grenades that cause a slow down for me. Don't think it's the smoke effects, because there's no problem with the tank fights which usually end with a lot of smoke.

I think it's the fragments as well.

  12. Don't fret Hellfish. If you ever need someone to use as a kick bucket in Combat Mission, give me a call. biggrin_o.gif

    Downloading now. Looks interesting.

  14.   Sadly some ass hole stole it along with the rest of my dads knife collection. last I heard it seems the thief traded it for a pack a cigarettes. We never got it back and the police refused to even talk to my father when he reported the theft.

I can imagine the convrsation on the phone.

"This is the Police, how can I help you sir?"

"Yeah, I'd like to report a robbery."

"Ok sir, can you detail the missing items?"

"Lots of big knives, and one of those Kukri's."

    "Kukri, sir?"

"A Gurkha knife used to decapitate people. They're curved and quite long."

    "...." *click*

  15. Haven't heard that one.  I'd have thought it'd be damned difficult to bayonet-fight with the L85 and that damned tiny knife bayonet - nothing a 17" Enfield bayonet wouldn't sort out (the Gurkhas also made great use of those in the Far East in WW2, and it wasn't for picking their teeth tounge2.gif).

I just remember an article I think once brought up in the Iraq thread that discussed the gurkhas attacking a position with either their bayonets or with their melee wepaons.
