These maps will be PUBLIC PROPERTY..... READ THE VERY LAST RULE... at http://www.1-8th.com

Deadline is very near. Please navigate to our site and notice the change deadline and prizes for each category.

  2. OK then Karillion.. if you win.. I won't pay you.. LOL

In regards to the question on duration of the contest.  The rules state at least 6 months.  This is so new editors may increase their chance of winning after a little practice. It is also in place to allow for increased number of submissions.

    Thanks for all the comments.

  3. Well I didn't know this would create so much bad press!  Really guys, as Suchey has stated, it is so that we would have the right to place it on our server without complaints of thief.  I appreciate all the comments.

The sole purpose of the contest is to make use of good addons to make good maps.  We have great addons/maps, that nobody uses because of fear of incopatabilty with guests on their server.  We felt that by having a contest and standarizing the addons, we (as a community) could have wider use of great addons in really good maps.

If the rule of "owned by 1-8th" bothers everyone that is considering participation, please consider it removed.  We had intended to zip the finalists up anyway for all to have and enjoy.

I am not a map maker.  However, I am amazed at the map editing talents of this community; I just wish we could incorporate addons in a standardized manner.  I felt that this was a good procedure to accomplish that task.

If the cash prize is not enough, I am sorry.   That is all my wife budgeted for this project...  smile.gif   However, if others would like to contribute to get the dollar figure up, it would be much appreciated and welcome (then we could call it the 1-8th/[your name here] map editing contest - or if you out do me, [your name here]/1-8th marines map editing contest).

    Respectfully,

  4. We are getting off track here.  The point that is trying to be made, without all the side stepping to other tangents, is that BIS should have known better than to support GS alone and not include ASE.

I would like an explanation from BIS on this topic, as I'm sure everyone else would.  I would also like to hear, FROM BIS, weather they plan to address this in future updates.

  5. I believe that Stoner is right on the money here. I was gearing up to purchase OFP:R, but if this is true, I had better not. ASE is the ONLY way to go; GS is bloated and antiquated. Ease of use and speed of ASE has removed GS as a tool for the veteran gamer and is only for those who don't know any better (i.e. that's why you only see newbies use it..... HELLO BIS, Get your head out of your rear!!! LISTEN TO THE CONSUMER! WE ARE RIGHT YOU ARE WRONG).

If is true that ASE is not supported, I would appreciate a response (they had better defend their decision) from a lead programmer with BIS.

  6. Kirowan:

    I would follow the Avonlady's faq (it's a superior site for newcomers/vets).

If the aircraft is not responding IMMEDIATELY, you shouldn't expect that, the game attempts to be realistic (e.g. momentum, etc). I don't use a joystick (too much trouble to drag out/put back every few minutes).

Yes you have to hold the keys down for sustained turns. However, I don't use the keys for turns in tanks, most of the time, I use the mouse.

    Goodluck!

  7. Placebo:

I see you are one of those forum people who like to start arguments when others don't agree with you.  Your quote of me is accurate, and I do not agree with having to purchase products to get the problem resolved (however, that has nothing to do with the level of enjoyment I derive from playing the game - see how that works, one may not necessarily affect the other - get it now?).

However, the problems still exist.  I didn't know you were a programmer for BIS and were going to correct the errors that I am about to point out (I hope you will do a good job).  All are multi-player in origin:

    1. Players in vehicles at respawn (I see them at respawn but they are not at respawn at their terminal), only way regain access to vehicle is to killl ones own team-mate.

    2. One attempts to jump in to a vehicle at respawn repeatedly unsucsessfully, then moves to another vehicle, travels for several miles, then suddenly reappears back at respawn in the vehicle that you tried to mount originally.

    3. While in the back of a helicopter, in 1st person view, you can spin your head around (or the game does it for you).

    4. Editing tool does not function properly.  I've made several maps that did not function properly and they should have.

    5. Helicopters do not crash after jumping out of them at 70 meters (they work perfectly and the enemy is able to take to their respawn).  WOW Placebo, I guess the helicopters in your reality actually function like new when they fall from the sky .... lol  wink.gif

Placebo, let me know how you do on this list and I will generate you another.

    Because I'm cheap .... LOL

I'm watching out for another game right now anyway.  Only thing is it doesn't appear to have the flexibilty of OFP (3rd person, prone, etc).  However, it does allow ship involvement for ground support.

  9. Thanks whocares, I appreciate the link to the previous discussion (I should have done my homework before starting this thread). I appreciate everyones input; however, I must disagree with those of us who think that it is perfectly acceptable to have to buy an "addon" to get problems resolved in a game (that is a dangerous presedence that is already too widely accepted in the software business).

I believe that my original purchase should cover the cost of fixing what should have worked correctly from the onset. Please keep in mind, this is my opinion, and I am entitled to it (as you are yours).

In regards to the involvement of others in beta testing, I agee, but again, that is the way it should be (think outside the box folks).

  10. Redstorm:

I don't have resistance, and I don't really care to purchase it (OFP-CWC is good enough for me - if I want "addons", I'll download them from someones mod section).

    Whocares:

I don't "do" beta's, and those betas has been out over a month. I thought that the whole purpose of a beta was to find problems then fix them. So does that mean BIS can't fix the errors in Beta v1.55-1.60 in less than a month (LOL)?
