Hi, we don't mind you configuring up this content, but you should realize that especially such assets may be subject to big changes / removal / reorganization. It was probably forgotten when filtering for Alpha; our bad, your luck ;) Were you to find something bigger than accessories, please contact us first, we'd appreciate that. Thank you for asking before releasing anything!

This is a video series, so more specific topics are coming up indeed :)

13-03-2013 Versioning revised (0.50 for default and 0.51 for Development | was 0.11 yesterday) attachTo repaired

To have a little generalized selection overview: Alpha - Development branch - you want the highest frequency of updates, to be able to quickly confirm fixes, and get sneak previews at changes. But you also accept the high probability of the version working fine one day and not at all the next. This version is good for us to rapidly test crash fixes, experiment with features and such. This branch does not receive high priority support from us; we may have to focus on internal tasks before fixing it. It's not ideal for 'just playing the game'. "The Wild Wild Alpha" :292: Alpha - default branch - you want to have a reasonably stable experience that passed through internal Quality Assurance (it's still an Alpha). But you accept lower frequency of updates. I'd recommend this version for 'just playing the game' Full game (and Beta) - you want to play the finished game and wait out the Alpha. But you bought it very cheaply now (don't want to make it seem like we don't want you testing the Alpha and Beta of course, but it's a valid option)

Why are so few mp servers using the new 0.11.103003 build?
DnA replied to jaysmizzle's topic in ARMA 3 - MULTIPLAYER
Due to the experimental nature of that branch, it's understandable server admins cannot provide a reliable experience using it. It's changing far too frequently, with the risk of issues. I'd expect it to mainly be used for fix confirmations and dedicated testing :) -
The Alpha only contains two actor sets (one of which is our beloved Creative Brit ;)). We do not record all voice sets (including OPFOR) until we are satisfied with the protocol. Final Voice Over recordings usually happen later in the project for that reason. All lines of conversation need to be as final as possible.

What will happen to Stratis after the Alpha / Beta?
DnA replied to TEAMKILLER's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Just to confirm: Stratis will of course remain available in the full game :) -
You can switch between default and Development branch any time, and it should only re-download the differences (these do grow as we get further from the latest default branch update obviously).
-
But to be fair I only edited that after it was discovered not to be working as expected ;)

The rain visual effect has been (temporarily) disabled because we want to improve the effect. AFAIK this is a parameter in CfgWorlds, so community environments could enable it. We are not sure when we will have time to work on it, as it's not a priority for our setting.
-
That's because of Delta-patching (thankfully). You are only downloading the differences, not a whole data package. So you probably had already downloaded some of the changes from a previous update, whereas others waited longer before logging back into Steam for example.

Manual highlights of the changelog

Quick update: a new Development version should be published now. This one has a version number incompatible with the default branch. Do note that we will change that specific number again tomorrow to be more consistent. The main point is: cross-joining between the branches will no longer be possible.
-
Yes, it's a band-aid. Normally the people opting into the Development branch need to accept the risks of issues, but in this case the issues spilled over to the default branch. Reverted and being solved with priority so we can roll it back out.

Are we going to get/is there anywhere to get Patch Notes?
DnA replied to mordeaniischaos's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
A next default branch update is likely to happen in the week after this one: we have to get Alpha Lite out first this Thursday. -
How to change Arma 3 branches between STABLE & DEVELOPMENT versions @STEAM client
DnA replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Sniperwolf described it accurately: the default branch will pass through QA before we publish it. We do not promise an exact delivery schedule, but it's more on the order of every two weeks for example. The Development branch has no limits; any of our team members is able to push out any part of the game at the moment. This means it has the potential to get updated every minute if our team is feeling particularly keen :) This has the high risk of resulting in versions on the Development branch that are malfunctioning (parts of it or even entirely). Any QA we introduce in this branch, means we have to sacrifice flexibility and it will end up becoming days between updates, to the point where the branch loses its use. If you are not wanting to deal with these risks, we recommend you do not participate in this branch. Note: we are specifically working on a solution for potential troubles of Development branch not spilling over onto default branch servers (seagullception ). -
Are we going to get/is there anywhere to get Patch Notes?
DnA replied to mordeaniischaos's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Changelogs are coming, but they are not available yet. The default branch large updates will surely have them; the development branch will have our entire team working on them and it has the potential to update very frequently. We are trying for a good enough automated method there, since manual compilation is not doable in that scenario. -
Many thanks to Placebo for his years of support and dedication! Glad to have you stick around. And congratulations to Sniperwolf on the new position :)

Upgrading Digital Deluxe to Supporter Edition possible?
DnA replied to SmallBlackSheep's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
We're glad to hear you are positively surprised by the Alpha :) An upgrade is not currently possible, but we are looking at options and will let people know if they do become available. -
That's strange, it does seem like something got corrupted in your DX install. To rule out problems in the game data, have you tried the local data verification in Steam?
-
We are preparing a new set of tools upgraded for Arma 3. I cannot yet say when we'll have them ready as the same programmers and other people needing to create such package are at work fixing crashes for example. This first version of the mod tools package would likely contain things like Oxygen upgraded with a PhysX-LOD (for 3D models), but not Visitor (for making islands) yet.
-
You can set the quality (and framerate) of these effects in the video options: Picture-in-Picture quality.
-
We cannot entirely guarantee it now, but it should be a smooth transition from Alpha (without full re-download). So on the day we launch Beta, your Arma 3 will just delta-patch in the new content. The same should apply to the full game, but the content buff is much bigger there (e.g. Altis island). As nimrod123 pointed out, we may at any stage be forced to repackage a lot, if not all, content, which would require larger updates.
