New STEAM patch update 25th March 2013
DnA replied to Solarghost's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
That's quite odd. This implies a wrong version of the files in the Dta subfolder when compared to the EXE file. Can you try deleting that sub-folder and re-verifying? Restarting Steam before that can sometimes help to process a faulty update as well. -
New STEAM patch update 25th March 2013
DnA replied to Solarghost's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Some general points about what it means to be an Alpha for us and you (though I think most of you realize this anyway - and it was in the F.A.Q. :)): There will be class changes in both branches. They will break your content temporarily. We try to avoid them, but until final release we are not willing to sacrifice this flexibility to have a solid configuration in place. Optimization is not a single task with a magical solution. This is and forever will be on-going work. The same is true for stability. The developers who fix showcases, fish, turtles or other things that seem unimportant to you, do not usually work on performance optimization or multiplayer stability. Some Alpha updates will be a step forward in one area, and a step back in another. Eventually this should however result in significant and cool improvements for Arma 3! -
Anti-cheat is another one of those indeed. We are not holding it back because we want to let people ruin your fun in MP, and will try to get solutions in place as soon as we can. If I have solid Intel on either front, I'll post it in the forums or a SITREP :)
-
On-going effort, and I don't want to announce a specific date until we have it fully ready. For sure not a forgotten task; we know how important this is for the MP community. It's also not as straight-forward as some may lead you to believe :)

How to change Arma 3 branches between STABLE & DEVELOPMENT versions @STEAM client
DnA replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Here is roughly how that goes: Development branch: is continuously updated by various team members at different times (hence the risk for broken versions there - little coordination for the sake of flexibility). For however long it takes until the next default branch update, this branch grows further away from default branch. Default branch: we take an entire internal Alpha snapshot, put it through QA as a whole package, green light it and publish it. At that point the Development branch is normally also updated to this same state, so the branches re-join. So yes, there may be things which have not been seen in Development branch, but are in default updates and the other way around (if it was removed or found to be breaking things horribly). Actual extra content is not something we want to reveal until we actually confirm it for release in an update, and we'll be very sure to make you aware of it :) -
RoyaltyinExile would like that very much

Just to be clear: this wasn't 5 new GB of data, merely re-downloaded old data. The new data was roughly 200 MB :)

SP Missions folder. BIS when is it coming?
DnA replied to manzilla's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
It was published in Development branch, and will be part of the upcoming default branch update. -
This 5+ GB 'update' was a mistake. What happened: we published a few minor changes, but the entire Addons folder was removed accidentally. Then it was reverted, but that means your Steam client may have already deleted Addons in those few minutes. I'm afraid this is going to be one of the risks of using Development branch.

22-03-2013 Staging revealed showstoppers for default branch update, so we are postponing it beyond the weekend. Some hot-fixes deployed to Development branch: Scenarios button now always available - to allow playing exported and downloaded scenarios. Barrel physical properties fixed - they caused Showcase: Helicopters to potentially break.

21-03-2013 Staging the default branch update for tomorrow's deployment - changelog then

Check out the Community Wiki, specifically this tutorial (step 8) :)

SP Missions folder. BIS when is it coming?
DnA replied to manzilla's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
There is a bug in the mechanism that shows and hides the Scenarios button. It currently only starts to appear when you have at least one scenario defined via CfgMissions >> Scenarios (so not scenarios exported from the editor, or most of the ones you download). The bug will be fixed, but is not yet. -
I believe it will be disabled from that date until the actual full game demo is released. What's certain is that it will not receive any more updates / fixes from that date.

The Alpha Lite is not a game demo, at best it's a demo of the Alpha of the game. Our intentions for it are to offer a small glimpse of the game in development for free, as well as to expand the amount of hardware it is tested on even further. It will not have multiplayer. The full game's demo is likely to have it as other games have had in the past :)

How to change Arma 3 branches between STABLE & DEVELOPMENT versions @STEAM client
DnA replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Alpha Lite does not have a Development branch. Alpha Lite does get updated in its default branch at the exact time the main Alpha will (first update expected later this week if evaluations of it go well). -
Hi, this is a common crash which we are trying to solve with our partner NVIDIA (example issue on FT).

19-03-2013 Fish should be less inclined to travel on land. Health effects system moved, renamed and reworked into functions. Field Manual spelling mistakes fixed. UAV module(s) temporarily removed / disabled for heavy maintenance. Editor loading took long when using MX rifles - fixed

My comment was about configuring data assets found inside the Arma 3 Alpha without a configuration :) Forward-porting Arma 1 and 2 content is covered here.
