Good luck on this mod. Definately a nice niche project. About trenches, perhaps if you build them into a map as a house (below ground level) and assign positions like houses are currently in ArmA2 it would be easier to get the AI in them and have them go to correct locations. As far as going over the top, that is a seperate issue.

Making Civ Get In Empty Car
Door a jar replied to Gil Galvanti's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Morning Gill, try this... set the name for the car you want your civilian to enter say car_1. then in the init field of your civilian put in assignasdriver car_1. (where as car_1 is whatever you named the car) set a waypoint for the civilian near the car as get in. any further waypoints should be the civilian driving the car. -Cheers. -
Commanding gunners and buying weapons in towns
Door a jar replied to brydling's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hey Brydling, I'm not too shabby with flying the helicopter in ArmA 2, but I have a major issue with targeting them also. I do have the armour down fairly pat so maybe I could at least help you out with that. As the tank command you can give your driver move commands using WASD, which I'm sure you've got down. Targeting with armour (default keys) right click on your target to tell you main gunner to engage. Once the main gun swings around Left control + left mouse click will give the order to fire. Sometimes for whatever reason the gunner tries to engage BMP-2s, or worse BMP-3s with the coaxle which never ends well for your tank and crew. Control + F will order the gunner to switch back over to the 120mm smooth bore. If the gun isn't loaded yet the gunner will tell you to piss off until he's got a round in the breach. Just wait a second and give the fire command again. Hopefully someone else will come along and answer you're other questions. I've gotten to really enjoy commanding tanks, it would be even more so if BIS implemented a real penetration value which make for much better tank duels. Hope this helps though, -Cheers -
The AI DOES NOT Fire Maingun In Main Battle Tanks
Door a jar replied to Duke49th's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I actually don't have much of an issue with the way the tank commands are set up. If your in command of the tank: Ctrl F - will order your gunner to toggle between the coaxle or the main gun. If set to the coaxle the gunner will engage any soft tagets he spots, but ignore hard targets. You've got a machine gun in the commanders cuppola to help him out engaging infantry if its a problem for you. As far as infantry being the nuber one killer of your armour in certain situations it should be and is realistic to be so. Granted sometime your gunner seems blind, so be ready to back him up with your commander's gun. If you have toggled over to your main gun, the gunner will not fire on his own. You have to designate the target you want him to engage (right mouse click over the target) your gunner will swing the gun to the correct bearing, then you simply have to issue the fire command (Ctrl left mouse) and the gunner will fire. A good blend of realism and playability of you ask me. I'll admit the AI needs a touch more work, and I hate how the T-72 commander's view is attatched to the turret so if you're looking at a target when the gun swings to engage all of sudden your looking at an innocent tree. Sorry if your frustrated, but try giving it another chance with some quick editor battles and practce. Pretty soon you won't need to switch to the driver position at all except to fine tune a defensive position. -Cheers -
Briefing and Decription File Help
Door a jar posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I've been searching looking for tutorials on how to create a breifing for ArmA 2 missions and all the ones I've found assume I know more about editing that I really do. I have no idea how to make sure something gets activated through an init.sqf and no idea how to do the functions like group respawn that in the past was taken care of via the description file (which I understand now with AmrA 2 is defunt). Can someone please post a tutorial for absolute dummies and morons with absolutely no real computer know how (for OFP and AmrA 1 I just used the decrip and breifing templates and added in what I needed to myself) on how to create the breifing for ArmA 2. Also how do I tell how I want respawn -if at all- to work. In the past it was: group seagull base, etc -Thanks a million -

Briefing and Decription File Help
Door a jar replied to Door a jar's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Thanks for the attempt, but these search outcomes are the reasons why I posted here to begin with. ArmA 2 does away with the description file does it not? My question was where does the information provided in the old description file go, if anywhere. There is such a wealth of information still out there that determining what tutorial is for OFP, ArmA 1, and ArmA 2 in itself is an issue. As for the first link you've given to me I've stared at that one for some time and was the reason why I actually posted my request This line right here at the very beginning: "Ok, let's start with the simple stuff. Make a file called 'briefing.sqf' and make sure this gets executed through the 'init.sqf'. Add the following to your init.sqf:" tripped me up from the get go. Although I mentioned that I was confused with the init.sqf stuff in my first post which leads me to believe you didn't really read it and just assumed I didn't search jack already before posting and decided to show off your knowledge. Thanks again -
How to put a static defence on a building?
Door a jar replied to 50.cal's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
It's actually been that way since Operation Flashpoint. For some reasons static objects snap to ground level, but soldiers snap to the highest surface level they are placed on. to put static units on a higher level you have to use setpos, likewise you have to use setpos if you want your soldiers to be set up in positions inside of a building instead of just on the roof. -
Morning everyone, I remember grabbing a mod for the original Operation Flashpoint that was a Napoleonic mod. Didn't see much multiplayer obviously, but I had a great time with the mission editor and single player with it. Does anyone know if there is a mod like this in development for ArmA 2? Even better does anyone know if there is a Victorian era mod in development. Complete with requisite Martini-Henry and Krag Jorgenson rifles? Oh to be ten years younger and computer savvy. -Cheers

I did a quick search before I needed to head off for work, but if I missed this answered somewhere else I apologize. In the game manual it mentions in warfare (civil war/superpowers) the ability to: -give units and money to another player -purchase units empty, or minus a commander. I have yet to be able to figure out how to do any of these things can someone give me a heads up on how this is done through the spartan menus? Also on creation of the game there is a lock/unlock button. Does anyone know if using unlock will allow you to get into AI vehicles. (I've been in a couple situations where the AI driver and gunner of UAZs have been killed, but the vehicle was in-tact, however I could not get in the vehicle and use the weapons, nor order any of my men in the vehicle. -Thanks for the help. Cheers
-
Thanks for the help fellas, however, I'm thinking you may be talking about a mod. I am referring to the BIS official Superpowers and Civil War -no mods, no third party version. I see a spot for vehicle equipment, but it is always blank. To be fair I am patched up to 1.3 -I have not downloaded either beta patches. Might the features you all are refering be added with the beta patches? I can't find a proper change log.
-
From what I can gather in other threads these features were suppose to be in warfare, but for some reason aren't complete. Hopefully with the next patch this will all get sorted out. If anyone knows differently I'd appreciate the help.

ArmA2: The All New OFFICIAL "where to buy?" Thread.
Door a jar replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I have a question I have not seen answered regarding Steam. Like a lot of you I've been holding out for a hard disk, but no one seems to know when North America is going to be getting said hard disk, including Got Game Entertainment who is responsible for distributing this mythical hard disk to North America. My patience is wearing thin between a company that for the last three titles have plum forgotten one of the continents and for a distributor that appears to be run Larry, Moe, and Curly. So aside from logging on and seeing this post by BI: "Dear forumgoers, sorry for the mix up. We have just finished crucifying the CEO of Got Game Entertainment and their board of directors all expired last night in Iron Maidens. ArmA 2 will be available at all retailers in North America within the hour" Perhaps someone can calm my rage by answering these question: If you download the game via Steam is it still possible to- a. create your own missions and play them with friends on line? b. download mods and be able to connect to friends even if they do not share the same mod folders? c. use mods created for ArmA 2 on Steam? If any of the answers are no I'm afraid I must continue my Got Game daily rant and bash. If the answers are all yes I'm going to tell Got Game where they can stick my pre-order and download via Steam. -Cheers -
17th Century Warfare Mod
Door a jar replied to jwalstab's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Good luck on your mod! It's certainly something I would be looking forward to playing. I don't mean to be a prude, however, but I think you want your mod to be an 18th century mod (17th century would actually be 1600s -18th century would be the 1700s which fought the way you described). I'm not sure if it's available any more, but there was a napoleonic mod (19th century) for the original Operation Flashpoint, it was a lot more basic than you described, but it had a lot of units and was really rather fun. If you can find it, or anyone else can for that matter and post a link you might be able to get a few ideas. If I remember right there was even a Waterloo map that went with it. -Cheers -

lastn1ght, I'm not one for which hunts, but I really feel your pain so I'm going to light my torch and blame Got Game Entertainment. I pre-ordered from them on the 2nd (after cancelling a pre-ordered through Game Stop from the 20th of June when I found out on these forums that game stop wasn't going to carrythe game) Anyway Got Game has had the game listed as back-ordered, and their the publisher -it's there friggin job to get the game out to other people and they don't even have copies of the game to sell on their own site -

I hate to say it, but this is starting to really get under my skin. Operation Flashpoint, great game accidentally bumped across it at the PX. Armed Assault 1, great game -unfortunately it was out in Europe for a full year before I could find it here. Ended up downloading a German version and then had to wait for a 12 year old in Finland to patch it over to English every time a patch was released. Finally got the U.S. version, had to buy it twice though. ArmA II, I assume it's a great game, but I can't say as I can't friggin pay someone to give it to me. I pre-ordered from the publishers, the GD publishers, who are in charge of getting it out to every swinging Tom, Dick and Harry in the U.S. and Canada. What do they have to say: "We have no record of your order" So I send them a copy of my invoice I get some automated response which I reply to saying thanks for the response, but it doesn't answer my question. "We have no estimate" You've got to be kidding me how can the PUBLISHER be back-ordered. I like BI, I like their games, but they've got to get this mess in hand. -
Hey fellas, give me a hand here please. I'm using switchmove"CombatToCrouch" to try to get soldiers to kneel down behind sandbag emplacements. They start out kneeling, but then either stand up right away or if I have their behaviour set to combat the kneel for a second and then lie down. How do I keep them kneeling so they won't lie down or stand up. I tried fiddling with the setunitpos command, but I can only find documentation on "up", or "down" nothing inbetween. Can anyone here give me a hand with this. I appreciate it.

Hey Merry Christmas everyone, Just a little question for you all. How do I add new voices, sound effects, and music that will show up in the corresponding effects boxes for triggers and waypoints. You'll probably need to break this down Barney style for me, I'm just starting out in the meat and potatos of programing. Thanks -Door_a_jar

Hey thanks a lot for your fast reply guys, I'll give it a try after the holidays. Merry Christmas again. -Door_a_jar.

Getting these jokers behind sandbags
Door a jar replied to Door a jar's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
All right I got them to stay crouched for longer than .3 seconds. I set their behaviour to "combat", set their combatmode to "yellow", set their unitpos to"up", then I switchmoved them to "combattocrouch", that keeps them there for a while, but if you walk to close to them, or sometimes they randomly engage from the kneeling, sometimes they stand up and engage, and sometimes, they engage and stand up. I want these jokers to stay in the kneeling even if Kate Moss walks up and asks if she can have a cup of cofee. Please help me out here, this is killing me. -
Wow this topic got way off, well, topic. I think he just wanted a list of things you would like to see added to the game, not a run-off of SDK rants. I'd like to see it as much as the rest of you, but hey guys patience is a virtue. As for addons well... -It would be nice if they replaced the .50 cal east with a KPV. -I wouldn't mind seeing a BTR, but they might run into the same problems they had with the BRDM when trying to make the turret work. -An RPK or RPK-74 would be nice as well. Oh and here is a question for you all. I know we have to wait for the SDK to add new models into the game, but is there anyway to add new animations into the game, I'd like to fix the heavy machine guns so they aren't standing up straight, but are actually hunkered down behind the weapon. Thanks fellas -Door_a_jar

Actually the modern war revolves around the city. The key area's to capture or hold are major road junctures, industrial centers, areas of high population, ports, airfields, and bridges. All of wich will be found in or near cities. Up until September 11th the U.S. Marine Corps main trianing influence was MOUT (Millitary Operations in Urban Terrain) and the three block war, the three block war is simply how they difine operations in Kosovo, Bosnia, Somalia, and even Afghanastan now, you have a group handing out food and medicine at point A, while at point B you are running checkpoint operations and at point C there is a limited firefight going on with dug in snipers, paramilitary, etc. all of which is taking place in or near a populated area. Modern combat today revolves around the cities, just like it did 50 years ago. As for the AI not allowing you to last long, hey it stinks, but it is realistic. Casualty estmates for an attacking force in built up terrain is 75-90 percent. Not good odds. I agree with the starting post I would like to see more close combat in Flashpoint. It can easily be done with the editor, I've been placing squads in towns defending buildings for some time. However for this to be actually enjoyable the gentleman at BIS are going to have to work on a patch that will fix the clipping problems inside the buildings. Let's face it if you start banging around inside a building you have no idea where you are going to end up right now. Of course if they do this it should solve a lot of other clipping problems involving the sandbags and barbwire. Flashppoint is a great game, I like the ease of the editor and the realism, I'll probably pass on Allied Assault and just wait for one of the WWII mods to come out. I can do whatever I want with this game. So if you want it keep asking, I'm sure BIS will here you. -Door_a_jar

Hey Amos I gave it a try and I can't get the ap switchmove"on chair" to work at all, I tried it on a fountain and on a chair, and used all of the different syntax I could think of, I even tried to have him standsitdown then onchair in the init file, do you have any Idea what I am screwing up here. This is slowly becoming a personal vendetta for me to get this lousy Russian in a lousy chair..."eat breakfast d*amn you"...."WHAT!!!!! are you too good for your lousy chair", "YOU Excrement, you hipocritical toadie, sitting in a chair is too good for you eh, you want to sit on the ground eh, London wasn't good enough for you, you had to go bouncing off to Barnsely" - such are the phrases shouted at my computer at all hours of the night and I need to get this figured out, I've been getting very strange looks from the neighbors recently. Thanks Door_a_jar

Hey I was flipping through some web pages looking for the new winter Kulgejev, and came across a Russian sight that had a screen shot of soldiers sitting on a fountain. I know how to use switchmove"effectstandsitdown" to make soldiers in either safe or careless mode sit on the ground, but how do you get them to sit on chairs and objects like in the screenshot? They were sitting there with their legs dangling down and their hands in their lap. I figured if I messed around I might be able to get them to sit on a vehicle that way, or at least get a few guys in a chair around a table. It would go well with a mission I'm working on where the Russians are at a restaurant that the resistance bombs. Any takers on this. the sight is www.flashpoint.ru the screenshot is in the upper right corner. I don't know when they will update, my Russian is hazy at best and my cyrillic is horrible. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot fellas -Door_a_jar
