AI machine gunners- has nobody told them MG basics?

I've tried this last night. Â I got over 50 enemy running at me over a hill on desert (the hill on the north side of the island, near the middle), and maybe 200m away from the hill, i'm set up with 5 other MGs (I just wanted to slaughter someone last night). Â At first, I placed them with the lowest skill level, and it was pretty bad to see all these shots being fired but very few enemy actually getting hit. Then I switched to full skill for all the MGs, and it was a glorious scene. Â Every enemy were being killed, but very soon, the MGs started to run out of ammo, seems like they were shooting constant fire but weren't hitting anything most of the time. Â I think I'd like to see a rate of fire when in lowest skill level, but instead of single shots, short burst and not long sweeping fire that doesn't hit anything most of the time. -=Die Alive=-

    No pilot - no controls

Ok, the UH-60 with rockets, the gunner is sitting next to you, the pilot. Â In the MG Uh-60, the seat next to the pilot seat remains empty. Â Now to script a way that has a 'copilot' to teleport into the pilot seat wouldn't be so realistic. Â The guy should be next to you at all times and when you die, he's there already. Â The rocket blackhawk, the gunner would be then left to fly the helicoptor, and he's sitting in the co-pilot seat. Â But in the MG blackhawk, to have the gunner to jump from his gunning window to the pilot seat isn't as realistic. Â It *could* be done, maybe in the movies, but not in OFP. Â At the speed that you crash at in a helicoptor, it would be totally unrealistic. -=Die Alive=-

Is the GOLD version ready yet???

Is that only the 'Gold Version' or Red Hammer as well? Â I'm going to buy the gold version eventually, but right now I'm waiting for Red Hammer to come out as well. -=Die Alive=-

    No pilot - no controls

I'd like to see the standard load for all air crews (pilots and gunners) to include smoke grenades (red, green), for emergency marking a location for pick up when downed. Â The load as it is now (6 hand grenades) seems to be a bit too much for an air crew to carry. Â I'd give crews 2 smoke grenades and maybe 2 grenades. I'm all for co-pilots, making the aircraft a 3 man operated unit. Â Have the pilot the commander. Â He will fly the chopper by default. Â The co-pilot would be the driver. Â He just sits there until either the commander is killed or ejects, or if the commander tells him to take over on controlls, like if I want the co-pilot to control the helicoptor, I'd use the command keys to 'order' him to 'get in, pilot', and he would stay in his co-pilot seat but would be in controll of the aircraft, going along it's course/waypoints. I'm asking this because I've made a mission where i got to fly into a village to pick up a 6-man team, and i got over 70 enemy closing in on the village. Â I've must of played this little mission over 100 times, and time after time, the helicotor would be only 25% damaged, an I (the pilot) would be killed and the aircraft would plow into the ground. Â Or worse yet is when I'm on the LZ and the men are gettin in, and i'm looking through the windshield and see enemy 75m away and all those muzzle flashes shooting at me, and then I die. Â Well the chopper is still flyable, the rotars are going at normal RPM, and a co-pilot could be able to take over for me, if there was one. -=Die Alive=- (Edited by Die Alive at 1:15 pm on Nov. 28, 2001)

    OH-58 Kiowa

Good news! Â There's a script by BlueMnky over at the Operation Flashpoint Editing Center forum (thread is called OH-58D Laser Designating Script *working*)that allows you to fly the Kiowa, then switch to the gunner position and designate the target. Â This means we can now fly behind cover, switch to gunner, and now be able to designate a target without haveing the AI fly us into harms way. Way to go BlueMnky. -=Die Alive=-

  11. In Vietnam, this is how the 'chain of command' is broken down in a Huey ship. Aircraft Commander=Pilot Pilot=Co-pilot Crew Chief=Door Gunner Door Gunner=Door Gunner The aircraft commander (AC) calls all the shots, he made all the decisions on what the aircraft will do and how it's done, usually because he's flying it. The co-pilot was there usually to watch and learn, and to keep an eye out for LZs, incoming fire, instruments, etc. Â Once a co-pilot flown sufficent number of missions, he then graduates and becomes an aircraft commander. Crew Chief's main job is to make sure the aircraft is air-worthy. Â He inspects the aircraft prior to take-off, checks all the oil, fuel, ammo, weapons, etc, and reports to the AC any hits that were taken from a mission. Â The AC might call all the shots, but that aircraft was the crew chief's baby. The door gunner more or less was just along for the ride, but he also helped the crew chief pre-flight the bird as well as check it over for hits, clean the weapons, etc. Now in OFP, I'd make the Chinook and the Blackhawk something like this: COMMANDER=Pilot DRIVER=Co-Pilot GUNNER=Crew Chief/Door Gunner GUNNER=Door Gunner Yes I know there can't be more than one weaponn firing on any vehicle. Â The MH-47E special operations Chinook has two side window .50cal guns and a rear ramp door gunner with M-60. Â Â I think first we got to get rid of this one weapon limitation before we go adding more weapons to helicoptors. Â Anyway, the Chinook is such a big fat flying target, it should have gunship air cover wherever it goes, cause it's makes for such a juicy target. -=Die Alive=-

    Make a UH-1 Huey

There could only be one gun shooting on any vehicle or aircraft, so therefore, could only be one door gunner on a huey, therefore, it would be a small version of the blackhawk. Â As for a Huey gunship, there's a AH-64 and the cobra, plus the Blackhawk with rockets and the Kiowa with 14 rocktes, I think there's enough flying rocket platforms out there as it is. Â I'd rather see these aircrafts with possible different weapon systems, such as miniguns or gun pods than just another aircraft. Â But yeah, a Huey would be cool, but I guess we'll have to wait for Operation Vietnam. -=Die Alive=-

    Birds

DONT FIRE THE FFAR!!! lol I'd like to see a little bird, or even a Kiowa/Jet Ranger that can carry pax and not only 2 crew. Â It would be easier for BIS to make a Jet Ranger, just remove the mast mounted sight from the Kiowa and add a passenger compartment. Â The TH-57 Jet Ranger was used in Vietnam, along with the OH-6, as light observation helicoptor, and it usually had a door gunner on one side, either a M-60 or mini-gun in some cases, as well as smoke grenades for marking targets. -=Die Alive=-

The gunner also controls the laser designator, so unless you don't want to designate a target, then yes, you can live without a gunner. -=Die Alive=-

Many of you have horrible ideas

I probably could reskin some resistance guys, but then they'll be 6 foot tall ewoks (another 2 feet and they'll be Wookies). Â I need 3 to 4 foot ewoks, with short stubby legs and spears and slings. Â One day, I'll get my Ewoks, you just wait and see, they'll live in the forest of Evron, and sing and dance all night in their happy tree houses. -=Die Alive=-

I'm still waiting for my Ewok Resistance fighters. Â They'll make some crazy s**t contracptions to destroy a T-80 tank with logs or rocks. Â Or they'll use a stone and a sling to take out a Machine Gunner from like 300m away. Â Or how about the Ewok Air Force, a hang-glider that drops 5 pound rocks on tanks. I want my Ewoks! -=Die Alive=-

  24. What I would like to know is why tanks have three crew members and helicoptors (UH-60 and the Chinook) only have two. Â OK, I know that there only could be one gun firing on any unit. Â But why couldn't they add a co-pilot to the helicoptors?(commander, driver, gunner = pilot, co-pilot, gunner) Â I'd like to see a guy sitting next to me when I fly, even if he doesn't do anything. Â Maybe like this, if I get killed by small arms fire, the co-pilot could take over and continue to fly the helicoptor. Â It's just an idea/suggestion, and I would like to have 2 gunners for the UH-60 and a rear ramp gunner on the Chinook, but if this can't be done, then add co-pilots. -=Die Alive=-

Unless they really extend the game with more official campaigns, like maybe a new one exclusively with the resistance or when they release the Gold edition of OFP, then I could see them adding some new units. Â As it is now, I got alot from them (since the EU release of v1.00), and I'm very thankful of their generosity, and I expect nothing more from BIS, just some more bug fixes.
