Eu - federation or not federation?

Please tell me this isn't true.... EU give swings the push By JOHN COLES A VILLAGE had to get rid of its playground swings because Euro rules say they are too TALL. The three swings were erected more than 25 years ago. Kids playing on them have suffered nothing worse than a grazed knee ever since. But now Brussels bureaucrats have introduced a new maximum height order for swings throughout the UK. The EU edict, European Standard BS EN 11 76, states the height of children’s swings must be no more than three metres (9ft 10ins). The set at the park in Great Somerford, Wilts, are 60cm (2ft) over the limit. The directive also includes a mind-boggling set of other rules including the distance from the seats to the frame and to the ground. The Great Somerford swings were condemned during a routine inspection by playground equipment firm Wicksteed Leisure last month. Now the seats have been removed to stop kids using the swings and a notice has gone up explaining why. It has left Sarah Beeby, 11, Hannah Lonford-Brown, ten, and Luke Whitmarsh and Jacob Botterill, both five, bitterly disappointed. Little Luke said: “It’s very sad. The park’s not exciting any more.†The EU standard is NOT law, but failing to comply could leave the parish council open to legal action if a child were injured. The council is trying to raise Å4,000 to get new swings. It can’t simply raise the ground around the exisiting frames because steps aren’t allowed in playgrounds either. Chairman Toby Sturgis said: “These are barmy regulations.†snif, snob, oh my, what brave children. Lucky for them, the EU knows best! -=Die Alive=-

    Ofp / war related poetry

I shot you in the head, Filled your teammates full of lead. Made you spend more money To buy the gun that's funny. In a state of rage, You trap me in a cage. I shoot a clip into your head, All of them miss, 1 shot and I'm dead. Calls of 'Cheater!' echo from my lips, While you do that victory dance with your hips. "Screw you all!" I quietly murmer, As I'm sightbanned from the server. Newbies shooting at the walls, Want to punch them in the balls. "How do you buy dem guns? Â " I want to pour water in your lungs. "WHich button doi pres too shoot?" I'm gonna kick you with my boot. "i gona kill u campr bitch!" When I hear this I start to twitch. Tie the headband round my head, Soon all those newbies will be dead! I smoothly sneak about with class, You kill me dead, shot in the ass. --Dass[MiA] Radio echos "GO GO GO!" Guess it's time to start the show. Buy an mp5 and a clip or two, A helmet and some kevlar, blue. Radio echos "Follow me." Wish I could, have to go pee. Relieve myself in the glorious throne, I come back and my guy is prone. "Dead." I say, "Guess I was asking for it." *DEAD*l337 b0y: Dass MiA, you sure suck @#%$! "Oh well," I say, "Time for more fun." DAMNIT! No cash to buy a gun! USP held in my hand, Wussiest CT in the land. I know, but the topic title, is June 6th: Remember. So, as I pointed out, lots of stuff happened on June 6th. If the title was, oh, say, D Day, June 6th: Remember, my replies would be more war related. Anyway, it's the 59th anniversary, next year should be covered more than today. I remember the 50th, live TV coverage, interviews, all sorts of nice stuff. -=Die Alive=-

    Un dropping ball in congo?

Today's newspaper has an article on weather or not UN soldiers in DR Congo will shoot child soldiers. Â The online version may appear later today or tomorrow, stupid newspaper. Another piece is titled: Are we going to shoot kids? Â There's a militia that is 60% made up of children, In an interview with it's leader, Lubanga, a 42-year old psychology graduate who has his headquarters in a Roman Catholic retreat guarded by child soldiers, insisted that most of his troops are adults. Â but he admits there are 10 year olds in his militia, mostly orphans in the militia's care. Â He promised to "disarm them shortly." Â If the new peacekeepers try to disarm his army, he warned, it "will create an explosion." -=Die Alive=-

    Human rights

Background Info on FGM from Amnesty International Two regional seminars were organized by the UN in Burkina Faso (1991) and Sri Lanka (1994) to assess the human rights aspects of FGM and other traditional practices affecting women and children. The seminars - a forum for discussion between national officials, UN specialized agencies and NGOs - led to the 1994 Plan of Action for the Elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children. Â The Plan of Action states that FGM "is a human rights violation and not only a moral issue...[it] is an expression of the societal gender subordination of women". It contains 62 measures for governments to take at a national level. Key among these are: giving a clear undertaking to end traditional practices, and in particular FGM; ratifying and implementing relevant international instruments; drafting legislation prohibiting such practices; and creating bodies and mechanisms to ensure adopted policies are implemented. In April 1997, three UN agencies - the World Health Organization, United Nations Children's Fund and United Nations Population Fund, unveiled a Joint Plan to bring about a major decline in FGM within ten years and to completely eradicate the practice within three generations. -=Die Alive=-

How old do you think the BIS staff are? There's a think that says they started to code on their first computer in 1985, and they look 12-14ish in those pics, so Im guess they're around 30-32 now. I guess as long as there older people making and playing OFP, it's alright. Does anyone know of someone who was a die-hard computer gamer and stopped? I know of one guy, he turns 24, gets married and has a kid, is working his ass off to pay the bills, he used to spend hours and hours playing games. When I was 24, OFP:R came out and all I did was play that 24/7. -=Die Alive=-

Still my fav arcade game to play was the Simpsons Arcade game. It was like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle style of game, with TV's favorite whacky family! Many many $0.25 went into that machine. My 2nd all time favorite arcade game was Operation Wolf. The NES version sucked, but the arcade version, that was hella cool. -=Die Alive=-
