Well, if that's the case you probably don't mind Russians using M-16s since it's basically an assault rifle like AK-74?
I find it very annoying that BIS still has refused to give Soviets a propter, realistic heavy machinegun after so many other tweaks and fixes. I don't need a 100th type of civilian car, but give realistic weapons at least!<span id='postcolor'>
Again like I stated the fixed HMG is not the center of attention of the game. Something like the AK-74 is, as are the vehicles, but a mounted HMG isn't. Remember this is just my opinion. If I saw Russian soldiers running around with a M16 it would effect the game ( even though I spend half the game with a AK-74 b/c I can never carry enough ammo
)On the other hand the mounted HMG doesn't effect me the same way. It's part of the periphery for me. Again I'm talking about me. I didn't play the game and go " OMFG what is that, why do the Russians have a M2 instead of the DV...whatchmacallit. Does the game model different east and west binoculars? ( I know that's a bit more trivial, but not much)

The mx is the fastest dx7 card out there so if they don't mind not having any dx8 support then it's a good fast card. Dx8 doesn't matter really until later in the summer when UT2003 hits the shelves.
As for the orginal post OFP is cpu limited. The fast the cpu the better the framerates. As he stated he gets the same rate at any res, so that's a good hint that the cpu is the bottleneck. I have a 1.3 duron with a ti4400 so I too am limited, but I do get all the extra image quality of AA and aniso filtering for free, so the game looks good.

<span id='postcolor'>And who the hell are you trying to talk on topic here?

I too don't see the unbalance that has really upset spy17. The NATO side has a few more helicopters than Russia. Does it affect gameplay? Not really. I know when I play from the NATO side I shit myself when a Hind appears. That thing can wipe out your squad quickly. A UH-60 or 47 on the otherhand can harass you with it's 50cal, but nothing too much.
If spy17 likes flying Russian hardware so much he should wait for LOMAC to come out. The Russian hardware outnumbers the American and people whine about on the boards all the time. Where's my F16 etc. He'd love it there.

Alright, good idea. Best you get on it. Can't wait to see your skinned 3D model with a working cockpit for both the gunner and the pilot. Man this is going to be good.
Mi-8 is the larger Russian transport in the game. Again is the Mi-26 used in combat operations where it will come under fire and have to manouver?

I quoted it above and there is no mention of recon anywhere. The KA-25 was developed for the NAVY for ASW!
And is the Mi-26 actually used in combat operations? The Mi-8 is the larger transport in the game and it carries even more rockets!
I'm all for the addition of more vehicles but your arguements and posts contradict your aguements and it makes no sense.

You know at least PC Gamer stated why they didn't like OFP. They felt it was too real, not enough action...etc
So they have an opinion, so what? I disagree with it, so what? They liked action and GR does that quite well. It also has very tight multiplayer and if they were all playing together on a LAN they were probably having a blast. Good for them.
It cracks me up that so many of you get your nose bend out of shape over the fact that a gaming mag has a different opinion than you. I still read PC Gamer, I read the articals, often comparing the reviews to CGW (the most pestimistic gaming mag around, everything sucks
) and from that I can get a pretty good indication if a game is good or not.Now is PC Gamer on the payroll of publishers? I doubt it. Look at Motor City Online. It's a huge venture from EA and they pushed it continualy and it was previewed often in the mag. There are ads all over the place and it is obvious EA, one of the largest and richest publishers, has spent a lot of money on it. Now in the review PC Gamer hated it. Are you telling me that Redstorm has more money to throw at the mag than EA to get their game a better rating? I don't think so.

ps the difference in armour rating may have to do with the poor tolerances in Russian vehicle manufacturing

Buddy how is a ASM helicopter balance for a scout? Last time I check when I'm playing the Russian side I haven't been harrassed by USA subs. As for the other helicopters the Mi-24 does dual duty. I don't know about you but that thing is deadly to tanks and infantry + it carries a squad. Where's the balance on the NATO side?
Oh here's an image from one of your links:

Not all varients have a gun. The BRDM was brought in as balance to the HUMVEE. Since you are so big on this, why doesn't the HUMVEE have a mounted MG? or TOW? or Stingers? or the 40mm gernade launcher?

Still how is BIS kissing American ass by having a common mounted HMG. It doesn't effect me and my gameplay. How different is a 12 or 14mm HMG in appearance anyways? Is it a box with a long pole sticking out of one end? I'd rather they fix the way it is mounted. I rather see a tripod HMG (but I believe that is not possible. The HMG is treated like a vehicle in the game so I can live with that)
I love how if a game has more equipment from one side then the developers are doing something wrong. Look at LOMAC and see how many people whine that they have more Russian planes than US. You just can't satify the masses I guess.

I personally hope that OFP comes out on all the platforms and does amazing. I mean gee, the last thing I want is BIS to actually make money.
And for the forums after it's released it's not like really highly evolved intelectual conversation goes on here at the moment. At least the Xboxers won't be whining about oxygen and crap plane addons all the time

GR weapon addons has a minigun. It's fun, but you need to play with unlimited ammo b/c it goes through it so fast. With the spread on the guns in the game it throws out a wall of lead that's like 30 feet across. Play the riot in Belgrade addon mission with the hundreds of people in a armed mob to see just how much fun it is to mow down a group of people.

<span id='postcolor'>LOMAC=Lock On: Modern Air Combat. It's the next big thing in flightsims. It's being made by the people responsible for Flanker 2.0 and is the first highly detailed study sim of a few planes. It inclueds F-15, A-10, SU-27, SU-33, SU-25, SU-39, and MIG-29 (on both sides, Russia and Germany). Probably one of the most detailed multi-aircraft sims made. The engine is DX8 optomized so it will look amazing on newer cards. Can't wait.

You have to remember that they also review the original release with no patches--just the program out of the box. Also I agree that the mechanized part of OFP is very arcadey. Not that it is bad, but it is a very big contrast to the infantry part of the game. If you expect any level of realism it isn't there. I don't really enjoy playing with the tanks and the helicopters for that reason. I find the controls really hard and the interface not that great compared to a dedicated sim of the vehicle. What I do love is the fact that they are all there together.
Again I pose this question: Why is it not possible to like 2 different games of the same class. I like different flight sims and I like OFP and GR. In many ways on does something better than the other, but they are both great games.

The only problem with FF is that the return springs are the motors that do the FF so they are mushy in the middle. I have noticed this with both the M$ and Logitech sticks. There is a lot of play in the center so they are not that precise. I Wonder how hard it would be to make a FF stick with seperate motors for FF and a spring setup to center the stick, have the best of both worlds.

For flight sims it helps with the level of immersion because you can feel the effects of g-forces through the stick. Also if the feedback is well done it is easier to fly your plane at the edge of the envolope because you can feel the tickle of the buffets that happen before a stall. You then can stay right at the edge. I had a Logitech FF for awhile. Was really nice, but it broke after a few months. I got a refund and have decided to wait to buy a new stick until LOMAC comes out. I haven't been flying all that much lately and my old original Sidewinder 3D pro still works. Unfortunatly my CH Pro Throttle is gathering dust since I upgraded to XP since the NT code locks the keyboard port to programing devices. Don't understand how this is a secerity feature.

That's hilarious. I wonder which one they did first. Was it, "well we need a tracer file, why don't we just use the map lines?" or was it the other way around. Lol
Best tracers I've seen are in Il2. Different colours and sizes and larger calibers smoke. And the sound as they wizz by is the best as well.

Are you just looking for a nice little all in one joystick to play around in with in OFP, or do you want a all singing all dancing joystick for serious sims?
For a nice stick in OFP either Logictech or Microsoft make some nice sticks, either FF or non-FF. If you are looking for a good sim stick the Saitek x45 looks nice and has intergrated rudder control. The cream of the crop right now is the Thrustmaster Couger, but that's like $250 us and need to buy rudders on top of that.

Hey I only hit reply once and the add reply button once. It sat there for 5 minutes waiting to update so I said screw this I'm going to the gym. Just got back and I guess the forum glitched on me.
If I wanted to spam I would write something irrevelant that doesn't even mention what the topic of the thread is about

I can be done can't it? I mean all that is really needed is a mission designer to script it in. Now a global one that effects all missions is a different matter. OFP isn't set up that way. Look at the addons: they don't replace anything in the game, they are just there so they can be used.

If you want to try a game and see how using the iron sights on the 3d model interact and the limitations on a computer screen, try Inflitration for Unreal Tournament. No magic crosshairs, just the sights on the gun and it's hard. You can really see how the comp screen is limited.

Heavy machine-guns are very powerful weapons in defence, can't tell how many times it has been crucial in stopping attacks (altough I wish they had real iron sights and not the zoom function!
. OFP has tanks which work in their role as well as helicopters altought not accurately simulated, and also basic grunt combat. To me, OFP's center of attention is the entire modern warfare. Frankly I don't get your point why heavy machine guns should be excluded?<span id='postcolor'>
I agree with you and I have no problem with a new HMG for the Russians. In a perfect world it would be nice, but it hasn't affected my experience in the game. I don't think it should be excluded. I haven't really thought about it until this discussion. In game I noticed that they were the same and that's that, no more thought on the subject. Kinda weird when I look at because as you said if the assualt rifles or pretty much anything else was out of whack it would have affected me. Can't explain why. If BIS does change it, it would be great, but not a really important point for me overall.
Personally I would love to see a mini-gun on the UH-60. Man that would rock.
For me the next step I would love OFP take is to develope a dynamic battlefield where missions aren't scripted, but a stratigic/tatical wargame engine running in the background does the troop movements and you choose which missions to do or attach yourself to a squad and fight out the dynamic war. That would be sweet.
