  1. Depends on how you look at it, the exact reason you don't like PC gaming is the reason I like it. My computer probably spends half the time in a state of half-put together. I love tinkering with it (probably because I don't have a car right now, so I have to tinker with something). I would get bored with a console so quick for that reason, nothing to play with on the hardware level.

Ditches and streams and such would really add to the environment, no question, but actual swimming I don't think so. It would be a real effort to keep your head above the water in full combat dress carring guns and ammo. Maybe from a sec-ops approach like a navy SEAL insertion, but that would be very spesific and not that common in the game.

  2. Well its not like OFP is going anywhere soon. It doesn't have an expirory date so it should be safe on your harddrive for awhile smile.gif

Seriously the modding community is just starting to do stuff. Give it a year and I bet there will be a ton of new stuff. Look at Falcon 4 and how long it has lasted and how different the flight sim is now than when it was released. I think OFP could be the same way if there is no OFP2. People make the game better. I mean look there are people how are making RPGs and RTS with the scripting in the game. How far can they go? I'm waiting for the dynamic battle across the whole island. Now that would be sweet.

...exactly, so it's more like DF2 tounge.gif (sorry, I had to do it)

  4. Yeah, I can see the problem that you are stating. I don't know, if there were leans keys I probably would use them. Right now my 'q' and 'e' keys (wasd set up) are set to glance left and right and it really helps with my SA, would I map them to lean? Guess I would have to experiment a bit and see which I would use/need more.

  5. The way I see it is that this guy comes in and states that he doesn't like the way the tanks work and could be more realistic, fine, nothing wrong with that, infact I agree, could be more realistic. But now Tex [uSMC] stated that if you use realistic tatics and place your men and fight the battles properly it can be more realistic. Well buddy here takes it personally and goes off a bit. This I don't like. There's nothing wrong with disussing aspects of the game, but to slag it and come in here with an attitude is wrong. People should pay a little respect to BIS, they busted their balls to make one of the most unique battlefield games ever, trying to fit everything in and pretty well succeeded. Flying and vehicles are a little arcade, but it has never been done before like this. I don't know about you, but this constant whining does a game no good. I've seen flightsim boards where the developers where active members of the community and really supported their amazing products, only to be driven away by the constant whining of the people. I don't want to see that here.

There is nothing wrong with discussing how it could be more realistic, debate how hard it would to implement features, cpu cycles to do stuff, etc, but I hate whining.

  6. Not sure if this works in OFP, but the Hellfire is actually a half decent AA missile as long as the target isn't manouvering. A longrange Hellfire shot can take out a helicopter that is hovering or moving in a straight line, but the missile isn't designed for sudden course changes so it can't take out an aware air target. But every serious helicopter sim does let you use them against air targets and it seems to be part of the doctern.

OH MY GOD WHYYYYYY!!confused.gif Do you guys have your nose up the developers ass or something?<span id='postcolor'>

It's because the vast majority of the community here enjoys the game and appreciates the time and effort BIS put into the game. Yes there are some weak points and the AI is lacking in areas, but OFP is so much more than any other game in the modeling of combined armed forces and the ability to let the player to do so many things within the world

And to have you here and take a disrispectful tone not only towards the developers, but to other members of this community that have contributed to the game is uncalled for. The whole tone of your posts is off. There is nothing wrong with discussing weak points in the game, but you have zero tact when dealing with it. My suggestion is that since you hate it so much it is never going to amount to what you want. So uninstall the game and sell it on Ebay and go back whatever you were playing before and enjoy it. Simple.

    See?

    Very simple.<span id='postcolor'>

Cool, kinda like medal gear solid where you press against a wall you automadically turn back to the wall to see down the corridor? That could work.

I don't think there is impassable terrain in OFP. Even on Everon (or is it Madlen) there is that bay with the steep cliffs on the side, they are like almost 90deg, but you an crawl all the way down. Haven't tried driving on it, ha something new to try.

  11. I think RedLine is talking about RL and in that I would agree with him. Infantry engaging an armed attack helicopter would not be a good idea unless it was a last ditch effort. In OFP on the otherhand with your little tests a multiplayer squad would be able to swat a Hind out of the air no problem.

  12. It's not really possible in the world of OFP. The vehicles that have the 'radar' at the top of the screen don't use them to aim their weaopons. Both Zuu and the Vulcan are manually aimed and the operator has to lead their targets, they get no assist from the radar. For the manpads in the game, they are IR seekers so you would get no warning of them fired, all though flares would be a better idea. If you actually saw a launch you could dump them. There are also missile launch warning systems that may be in use that if they see an intense IR single around somewhere close by it assumes that it's the motor of a launched missile and does a warning and dumps flares, but they can't tell the difference from a missile and the sun reflecting off a car windshield for example. I remember seeing a documentry about peacekeepers in Bosnia and one of the pilots was saying the missile warning system was annoying b/c the would get a ton of false alarms and be jinxing across the sky for no reason trying to see the launch.

  13. I agree in the scope of OFP that airborne tactics aren't necessary and the idea of parachuting off of a helicopter isn't that great. Also remember the number of troops in OFP is limited by your computer not the engine, so a large battalian size battle is possible, just not likely with todays hardware.

Just by reading your post you seemed to be stating that airborne troops weren't being used at all in RL. Agreed that there hasn't been a full scale conflict since WWII where they have been used, but they must be there for something right now. Why would the countries spend so much money on training and maintaining these troops if they are no longer a valid tatic.

  14. Well do you see any fixed wing aircraft to carry the paratroops? Not much you can do about that until someone creates a C-130 which would be nice.

Now as for paratroops a WWII stratagy, guess no one told the airborne regiments in the armed forces. Airborne is a highly covanted spot in the armed forces and in the US they are a step below the Rangers. Most rangers are first from the airborne. Same with Brits, the airborne troops are the best and in Canada the same until reasently because of political reasons. It's a lot easier to drop a large amount of troops and palletized cargo than to ferry it in with a ton of helicopters. An airborne operation will inclued at least a few hundred troops. Try moving that many with helicopters into a LZ. It would be hell. I remember reading stories like that from Vietnam where everything goes to shit because a helicopter breaks down in the LZ and can't take off. Now what? The whole operation is screwed up because of one mechanical failure. Dropping a large number of men by parachute is still a very valid tatic.

  16. I was thinking, how can we bring OFP to the next level, then it struck me, OFP is set in 1985 and at the time Ronald Reagan was trying to get the Star Wars program off the ground. So here it is:

    Operation Flashpoint In Space

How cool would that be. You could start on the islands and with the scud launcher fire satalites into space. Now the instead of just a couple islands being modelled, the whole earth has to be. We then could combat the Russians in space (booming echo voice when saying that) We could mdel different types of satlites and space stations and fight in space. Just think Moonraker

    How cool would that be?

  17. ooh ooh I want varable penitration of weapons based on caliber vs material. ie if I shoot a big enough bullet it should go through a small tree. While we are at it that bullet should leave a small hole in said tree that I can look through. Shouldn't be hard to add to engine smile.gif

Actually how would that be for immersiveness: riding in the back of a M113 and it comes under heavy caliber fire and you see small holes getting punched through the side with beams of bright sunlight piercing through. I give it 5 years for game engines to get to that level.
