Tyler<span id='postcolor'> By the looks of the rifle setup they were used at night time and the biggest bonus they would get from the suppressor is that the muzzle flash would be contained within the can, so no flash to blind the starlight scope and no flash to pinpoint them in the dark. I don't know if sound would be their overall concern. If I wanted to use a suppressed rifle in the game that was properly modelled I would rather have a suppressed M4. Same range of engagement as a suppressed sniper rifle (using subsonic ammo, around 50-200m) and would have more versitility at the same time. Just my opinion. COLINMAN

Honestly o/c the card would not do much in RL performance. Most benchmarks I've seen of o/c cards adds maybe 2-4fps at most, usually less. Myself I'm holding off o/c until I have to. Why reck your warrenty on the first day. In the future when dx8 games are out maybe o/c will show more as the full pipeline is used, but for now I'd rather have my warrenty. edit...as for performance in OFP, don't expect too much of a boost from the card. The game if anything is cpu limited. I've found that I get FSAA for free when playing, but big battles still slow things down. Have to wait for next generation games that really use the card to really see some gains. COLINMAN

What's the armour value of a M60 tank? I've seen a picture of a old one that was straft by an A-10. It was absalutly blown to shit. Had 10 penitrating hits and only 1 is needed to disable the tank. The amount of kinetic energy would cause the heat to rise within the tank to the level where the crew would be killed. Kinda sickning really. COLINMAN

I guess ATI sorta threw a wrench into Nvidia's plans. I don't think they were antisipating a cheap Dx8 part and for the value range a GF4mx isn't to bad. It's faster than a GF2ultra, the part that it replaced. If you aren't a gamer it's a decent cheap part. Also it's the same chip as their mobile one. Don't know why ATI and Nvidia haven't made a mobile dx8 chip. Do they draw more power? I know my GF4 needs a larger psu than what's in a lot of boxes. First graphics card I've seen with the requirement for a 300w psu on the box. COLINMAN

Exactly, I for one would not want OFP to mimic CS or any other action game. I want it to be different, I want the realism. I mean next are you going to ask if you can bunny hop around mp so you are harder to hit? There are certain conventions in the game that make it different from the others. COLINMAN

If you have a card that uses dx8 (vertex/pixel shaders) then night time is portrayed differently. On a dx7 card like my old GF2mx then night is just darker, but everything is still has colour. On my new GF4ti4400 when it's night the world is very black and white simulating the effect that at night your eyes don't pick up colour (something to do with the rods and cones, not going to look it up right now). There is a little colour in objects that are hit with bright light, but the world is very black and white. It's a really nice effect. Now all they have to do is have light wreck your night vision so when a bunch of guys are standing around the fire they shouldn't be able to see 5 feet past what is illuminated by the fire. COLINMAN

But you would still have a loud crack of the supersonic bullet and the enemy will still be alerted to the general direction you shot from. Maybe it would reduce the ability of the enemy of know exactly where the shot came from, but they still would be alerted to a shot. Most people want a supressed weapon in this game so they could say drop a sentry while others in the camp wouldn't hear the shot. To do that you would need subsonic ammo so you still would have to get close, not the range of a sniper rifle (800 yards as you said) That's my agrument, if you want a semi-relistic game of RL battlefield tatics and equipment a suppressed sniper rifle wouldn't fit in. I grew up in Vancouver, Canada, but now I'm living in Calgary. Nice part of the country, pretty close to Baniff and the Rocky Mountains, but I miss the ocean. Also the major city right beside the G-8 summit. Looks like it will get crazy. The protesters have just tried applying for permits to have 10000-20000 people in a park and for parade routes, all around 6 months late so the city said no. Guess the riot is already starting. Damn and I work and live right downtown so I'll be in the middle of it. Should be intersting. COLINMAN

What I don't understand is why people keep asking for a suppressed sniper rifle? Are they actually used in RL? (RL RL not movie RL) I mean the idea of a sniper rifle is acruate rifle to take an aimed shot across a great distance. Now a supressor is going to throw off that b/c you would need subsonic ammo so the bullet wouldn't have any power to go far and it would easily get blown off course. If you were close enough to used a suppressed rifle, probably a suppressed smg like a mp5sd would be more approprate. COLINMAN

nice, can you move the m2 to a bipod like that or since its a 'vehicle' that you get into is it possible? COLINMAN

No problems what so ever. Using the latest beta drivers 29.40 and I haven't had any problems in any newer games. Some older ones, but its a xp thing as well. Nice thing about GF4 is that you basically get FSAA for free. OFP is a cpu limited game so image quality is nice aniso filtering and Qunix AA and no slowdown. OFP also has some nice shader effects at night where the whole world turns a muted grey, kinda like RL so you get extra effects as well. COLINMAN

I'm just downloading it now from fileplanet. Not the most realistic game, but Raven is a good company and the effort they have seemed to put into it should make it good. COLINMAN

I agree with you on that. I got into computer gaming through flight sims and they are my first love. To have realistic flight physics within this game would be godsend. As for weapon performance my guess is that everything is play-balanced, especially for multiplayer. I wish that the weapon systems were more representive of their RL counterparts, no matter how out of balance they are. They were designed for that, to rule the battle field. Some would say, " how much fun would that be, have a A10 on airsupport and it rips a Russian tank plattoon to shreds, there's no challange in that." Well for that the game should have more AA assets and a IAD screen. Could you imagine that, an realistic battle field like that. But realistically I don't know how that could be implimented within the program. It's basically what OFP2 would be. The intergraded battlefield sim has been the dream of many developers, but never really happened until OFP, but they made a lot of sacrifices in realism and level of modelling to do this. I guess I will take this because it's actully here. COLINMAN

Is there any sp fixes in this beta patches, or is everything mp only? COLINMAN

Does this last post make any sense at all? I've gone over it like 10 times and I have no idea what that guy is trying to say. Btw you can say fuck and shit all you want in this forum, nothing gets censored COLINMAN

Doesn't look like a bridge, more like an earth burn built into the river. Kinda dispointed if that's the bridge. There's no way you could blow that up. COLINMAN

Lol I still remember the Romeo be my bitch ads. I was never caught up in the hype of that game, never cared. Why was it so hyped, just because Romeo was making it? COLINMAN

Ok, I'm not talking about the properties of the actual vehicles, ie armor, speed, manouvrability, but the underlying code that controls the unit behaviour. It depends how many hooks they left in the ai code (I'm not a programmer so all this is speculation, etc), but probably the very base was the soldiers and they moved up from there. If they had a serprate code base for every part of the game, it would have never released because it would have took too long. I mean the game already was in development for 3years? (not sure on that number). Let's take a tank. If we impliment realistic optics and balistic computers etc, then the ai needs to be able to use them and then line of sight, tatics, etc all come into play. A dedicated program like Steel Beasts does this, but it would take enoughter year to impliment it into the OFP code. Scripts and such really help, people can control how the ai acts, but a script is just that, rote action that they perform with some randomness added, not real ai behaviour. As for different damage to different parts ie less armour to the rear, I don't know if that can be in the engine. If the engine is based on a global damage system, then a per-pixel hit system would have to be added. Then again I'm not sure how it works, so it may be able which would be great. Imagine being on a high ledge and fire a RPG into the weaker top armour on a tank, it probably would do some damage. COLINMAN

Well here's how to unlock the gore in the demo: In your shortcut add this line: +set lock_blood 0 Then in the main menu bring down the console : Sht+~ Now type: menu lock That opens up the violence lock menu, when it asks for a password, just hit enter and then you can adjust the gore in the game. I tell ya, the blood has the same cartoony look. When you see a pool of blood it has a little 'shine' on it, a little white square that kinda makes a shine when you draw. COLINMAN

I got mine off of fileplanet, but I have gone to the evil side and bought a membership to get a server. Not bad I use it a lot so for $10Cdn a month it's not bad. As for just enougher shooter, yeah, but sometimes that's what I want and Raven does do a good job. JKII was a good game. So far the demo is really good. The jungle looks great, linear, but good. Now all I have to do is figure out how to unlock the gore in the demo to see how the new engine works. This will be a good month for mindless violence, SOFII and GFA3 both being released this month. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (whisperFFW06 @ May 23 2002,07:46)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Problem for BIS is of another level. As stated above, if you increase tank realism, you'll have to do it for helos, planes, and there is many things to do on these subjects too. And this is a lot of work. They have implemented the minimum to use tank in the game (to create a whole battlefield), not to simulate tank tasks perfectly. OFP is currently essentially a soldier sim, not a tank nor a helo sim. Don't cry on BIS if they don't build a better tank sim right now, because they have alot to do, and they do it, unlike many other game companies who create a product, and then completely forget it and go on. There is enhancement to be done on the tank part, it will probably be done. But let them time to do it.<span id='postcolor'> I think that is probably the problem. OFP code base is probably started from the idea of a soldier sim and build up from that. Basic AI routines probably would need a major rewrite and such since they are most likely based in the foot soldier code. economy of ai routines and such are probably necessary to be able to do a sim like this with so many elements. Could you imagine a dedicated sim to each part of the overall game? It would take forever. The electronic battle field has been tried before and companies like Spectrum Holobyte and Mircopose have gone out of business because of the money spend. Even the Janes World War thing died and it was just different flightsims comming together. COLINMAN

Yeah hardcore warez will do whatever to crack a game, but with simple copy protection it stops a lot of 'borrowing'. I know a lot of friends that don't know much about computers see something cool on mine and wonder if I could burn them a copy. With simple copy protection I can't and gives me a good excuse to say I can't. I remember when I had a C64 back in the 80s and I think all my games were pirated copies bought at flea markets. I mean when your 8yrs old and a back of 20 games cost like $2 you couldn't turn it down. A lot of companies went out of business back then because of that. Now if you want warez it takes time and effort and 'knowing' someone that can point you to a proper server. Most people don't have the time or the knowladge to do it. Oh yeah what is safe disk 3? I know I have some safedisk 2 games that stopped working in my cdrom drive when I upgraded to xp. They work in my CDRW drive, but not the other one, weirld. COLINMAN

I'm just downloading it now. I've always liked this mod for halflife, even though it's not the most realistic I've always liked the flow of the maps and the checkpoint capturing. This version is a major rehaul of the whole game, sort of like the difference between DoD 1.6 and 2.0. Hope it is good. Anyone else out there like this mod? COLINMAN oophs the title should be 2.6
