what the hell are you going on about? What does PR have anything to do with the discussion at hand? -

well there isn't anything stopping you from playing OFP to your heart's content. I find the terrain fidelity and AI much better in A1 and A2 than OFP. If all you want is vast view distances, then you already have them in the game you want to play. Myself I find the battlefield much more convincing both visual and aurally in A2 as compared to OFP, even though I am limited to around 3.5km view to keep it smooth. -

but accurate representation of terrain is also important in simulating a battle. I'd much rather have the current 2-3km with even more detailed terrain charator so that when I hit the ground the natural difficile of the terrain provides cover. I think it is more important that they get the grass rendered out to the current engagement distances. I do not want to play on a 15-20km view with billiard table ground and pyramid hills. Look at flights sims. Lock On can render out to about 100km, but on the ground the terrain lacks the necessary detail to have proper ground combat. Hell people that fly the Black Shark complain that there isn't enough detail to fly a helicopter, let alone infantry or tank combat. Well rendered realistic terrain to what is a typical engagement ranges is much more important than far off mountain vistas. -
I use aware and danger a lot when I am commanding a squad. Most times I split my men into at least 2 groups. Usually I have 4 or so men under Red, and myself and 3 or so under White. I have all groups under aware, but stay crouched. I then bound to contact with the Red Team. Once in contact I switch everyone to danger. As stated in danger the AI will bound within their group when they move. So when I'm advancing in contact it takes a lot slower, but my men do not run into fire near as much. I will also then bound with my White Team. I will send them ahead and cover while I move ahead, etc. ArmA is a lot slower, but I find the combat a lot more fullfilling.

A2 already goes beyond what a PC can do today. I don't know of any computer that can run 10km view distance and you are saying you want 15-20km? -
AI Dispersion Increased for more Immersion
dayglow replied to Thunderbird's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
if you are using a Steam created icon the way to get command line functions to work is to open up Steam itself and: - go to My Games tab - right click on ArmA2 - click on properties - click on launch options - enter command line arguments. This will let you launch the game with mods. -
Picking colored team + team switch isnt working anymore?!
dayglow replied to topeira's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
if you are pressing the 8 button to get to your teams to select them, it won't work. You have to select all, then the team button. It's been reported on the bug list. -
Allow shooting from the hip when running?
dayglow replied to Chunk3ym4n's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Easy enough now to change from run to walk to fire. Just slow down for a second to fire off some wild rounds. Also by changing pace you'll throw off the lead of someone that is trying to gun you down -
Ghillie suit could use some improvement against AI
dayglow replied to Kabolte's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
How do you simulate the near invisibilty of a ghilles suit if you are motionless in approprate cover against an AI that never 'sees' you, but knows where you are based on mathimatical calculations? -
Ghillie suit could use some improvement against AI
dayglow replied to Kabolte's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
i doubt I could see this 20m away unless I knew it was there beforehand and was looking for it. It's hard enough to see people with light camo not moving in cover, let alone a suit designed to completely blend into the cover by mimicking it -

dayglow replied to arma2disapointed's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
now that depends on how you want to represent the real world within the sim. This has always been a problem with flight sims as the human eye can often discern aircraft shape at a distance that is impossible to replicate on a comparative low resolution monitor. Strike Fighters chooses not to render an object that is smaller than a pixel and it's frustrating beyond belief that objects a few miles out are invisible. Other sims scale the size of objects as they get further way to keep them visible, or have artificial glint or shine from a far off object. Which is more real or not? I say you have to have some sort of compromise for the simple fact that a sim should try to represent real life vs purely replicate it. -

a person well concealed in a ghilles suit in suitable cover would be next to impossible to spot if they are motionless. -

dayglow replied to Kabolte's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I think he's asking that the suit offers more concealment against the AI which can see you 300m away through the brush. No artificial concealment with other players who use their eyes to search for an enemy. -
Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
dayglow replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Fair enough to believe that, but its another thing to feel necessary to annouce how much better you are for drinking the 'proper' way. ---------- Post added at 07:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:44 AM ---------- I fully agree, I'm with the latter position as well. The issue is that some people in the full-real camp seem to believe it is their duty to enforce their opinion by removing options from the game. I mean the OP is arguing that the option should not even be there. Never mind the fact that the redicle is on for lower difficulty settings and off the for higher, and every difficulty settings is fully customizable to tailor the gameplay for your liking. The larger issue is that some people expect that they should be able to jump onto any server and play the game they want. I've seen this problem in any sim style game with people arguing that the whole community should be consistent across all the servers, never mind that different people enjoy playing the game the way they like. I see it as instead of playing video games online, but instead say you go to the Y to play some pickup basketball. You arrive and some kids are playing 21 or HORSE, or whatever on one of the nets and you get pissed off because they should be playing the game the way it was meant to be played, 5 on 5 full court. In the end I have no problem with full-real players and I hope that they get enjoyment out of the game. I just don't need them to try to dictate to everyone else how they should play and then make statements on how they are better because they 'man up' or whatever like there is some revelence to who they are in how they play. Now I fully agree that there has to be better server browser options to help them find the games they are looking forward. They should add to the filter server settings that are important to them like the redicle turned off or friendly/enemy tags turned off, etc. -

No he's the type that doesn't call for directions, arrives at the restaurant and then stands on a table, takes his shirt off and waves it over his head loudly announcing how much of a man he is for getting there. -

FYI there is a mod that will get rid of the redicle even on servers that have it: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74133 Also TrueMods had the option as well, I hope it comes out for A2 soon. -
After playing some co-op with some friends with comms I got an idea. The voice comms is excellent and it's the first time we don't need to use a 3rd party program in a game. Love the 3d positional effects. I like how a double tap of the capslock keeps the channel open and I don't have to push to talk, but to even make it more realistic I'd love a 'key mic' function. This way we could keep the direct channel open as it simulates voice commmnication, then I could key my mic and speak over the radio on another channel, is group or vehicle intercom. So ideally I can have 2 channels acitive at one time. One set to voice activation and second on a push to talk key.

Turn up the weapon free-move zone or whatever it is called. That way the center of the screen doesn't represent where your weapon is pointed. -
If I remember from OFP days engage at will means they will break rank and actively search for the enemy while engage means they will fire at targets while staying in formation.

I agree it is critical that you can filter for more options in the browser. Like I said before the best crosshairs where the TrueMod's for A1. The crosshair was made up of 4 dots in a diamond that was about the size of a man around 20m away. or so. Not enough to get an accurate shot off at distance as your target would be fully inside the redicle, but a close CQB contact you could put it on a target and know that you will hit it somewhere on the body close up. Can't go popping headshots even close up. It's a nice general marker of where your weapon is pointing, but not an laser accurate one. -

It's a cheat now to play as a loader. Just type -enableallpositions at the main menu. You can then play as a loader or even as a supply clerk on the LHD counting rounds and checking the manafest. -

So it's not enough for you to play the game the way you want, but you need to dictate to others how they should play as well? Find a realism server, join a group of like mnded people and play you like, don't stay awake at night because someone else enjoys playing a different way. This isn't a contest to see how much of a man you are. This is an entertainment product so let others be entertained how they want. -

The ability to instinctively point and shoot is important in CQB and an onscreen pointer helps with this. I found the A1 Truemod crosshairs with the faint 4 point dianmod the best. Good enough to aim up close point spread out too much for accurate fire at distance. Can't wait for this mod to be brought over to A2. -

I fully agree and can't await for someone to ceate a 50 mission campaign where I'm the loader in the the tank. I'd love to see a drag and drop interface so I could click on either SABOT or HEAT rounds then the breach depending on what the commander asked for. I could play that for hours and never see anything else.
