  1. I tried the method above with PSP7. Texview would open the file, display the alpha, and save it to .paa without problems. The .paa file opened fine. But when I tried to view the model it was applied to with Oxygen's external viewer it crashed. OFP also crashed when I tried to view the model.

The XM177E2 does not have a burst mode, and the AI now fires bursts with it. There is no reason why the burst could not be removed from the two Kalashnikovs.

As for the M14 sight picture posted above, no, they are wrong. The M14's rear sight is a peep sight, and the protective blades on the front sight (I guess that's what you call them) go farther up, and curve away from the front sight blade (You can get a pretty good idea of how this looks by looking at the front sight on the M21 model). Everything about the front sight is too wide. I don't mean to bust anyones chops, consider it constructive criticism please. If Santa is good to me I'll provide you with a sight picture from a M1A, which has identical sights.

Like I said, I played OFP on the 800mhz with 128mb RAM, and it did not slow down this much.

  4. Dependant on terrain.

    Generally:

    M21, 5 magazines.

    5 hand grenades.

CZ75, 5 magazines. (Virtually useless, but there is no reason not to grab one, unless you can't waste 3 seconds.)

    Binoculars.

Night Vision Goggles. (Like the sidearm, there is no punishment for carrying them, and you never know when a skiptime script may come out of nowhere and bite you in the ass.)

Hand grenades are probably the most underestimated weapon in the game, and RPG launchers are not suited to my tactics. If I'm east and do not have access to a M21, I carry an AK74. Using double taps, you can usually kill an opponent at about 500 meters if you can see him (even if he's only 3 pixels tall). Seems like you can almost be more proficient at sniping people with the no-scope assault rifles, mainly because of their fast fire-up shot capability.

If I'm getting chased around by a tank, I can always just run to the nearest dead body and take an AT weapon from it, considering everyone and their mother carries a LAW now. On some servers (the ones with third person disabled), people even turn out. There has been more than one occassion where I have shot an APC driver moments before he would run me over.

I'd like to try out the Hunting Rifle in MP, which seems to be pretty powerful and dead-on at assault rifle ranges, while having just enough magnification to engage guys out to 600 meters. Normally it would not substitute for the double-tap capability of the AK (which usually never misses when used in this manner). The S&W revolver (686 I believe) also ups the anty in the sidearm role. Probably the only serious one in the game. I guess it will take a good month before people start implementing it in MP missions so it can get some use. The HK is also pretty good, as is the Bizon, but I like the HK better. Never gets much use, though, because of the nature of maps. The underbarrel-mounted grenade launchers are also very nice, but thanks to the (frankly) crappy slot system there is no point to using them anymore - RPGs have more range, are easier to aim, and pack more of a punch.

The weapons in resistance are blatantly low quality, the full auto rate of fire on the two new 7.62x51 NATO ARs is unrealistically high and the sounds are just lame. Pistols seem to be horribly underpowered and the Uzi sounds like something out of a sci-fi film (as well as the suppressed Glock now, too, which happens to have another easy-to-fix error which has been neglected despite the dozen of people reporting the incorrect magazine capacity) so I never use them. If BIS fixed a couple things (one of which I haven't seen anyone say anything about is the G3A4 sight - too blurry. I think the M60 sight is like this too, but I haven't used it recently enough to remember) I would probably use these guns more often.

  5. My PC does this too. Before I explain let me post my specs, so the effect will be more.. surprising.

    Intel P4 2.4ghz

    128mb GeForce4 Ti4400

    256mb RAM

    40 gig HD

Windows XP Home (Hey.. Wasn't my choice.)

Now I get better framerates, but when I go to exit, the damn thing practically locks up. It takes a good minute for the game to actually exit, and after a couple intense cooperative missions it even takes a long time to exit the MP system and get back to the main menu. Now on my old computer:

    Intel P3 800mhz

    128mb GeForce4 Ti4400 (in new PC now)

640mb RAM (upgraded after playing OFP for a while - still wasn't this bad back with 128mb)

    Windows 98

ALT TABing out was virtually instantaneous as was exiting the game. No slow-downs after time, whereabouts with the new computer I have to restart to even get a decent framerate.

XP seems to be slowing EVERYTHING down. Virtually every program, despite having a 3x faster processor running it, has more "slow" periods and takes longer to start up. Multitasking doesn't seem to work too well either.

  6. I think some vehicles should be "immune" to small arms in places, like tanks. It's just not right that you can cause an APC to explode after shooting it with something that will not penetrate it's armor enough times. Cars and trucks "imploding" after you shoot them enough times is also sad. Tires should be flattened, and glass should break from small arms fire. It should take a couple grenades or an AT weapon to crumple it. Using a M2 machinegun with ball rounds and shooting a BMP one or two hundred times should not destroy it. On the other side of the spectrum, the effect of small arms fire needs to be changed. Maybe I'm hallucinating, but it seems like it takes two hits to kill with a M16 or AK74, at ranges up to 500 meters. The sniper weapons usually take two rounds as well at these distances. It should take more rounds to kill people with the smaller caliber weapons. The sounds for the FAL and G3 are absolutely pathetic. M21 is okay. SVD could use some work, but the G3 and FAL sounds are hands down the WORST sounds in the game. They sound like springs being flicked.  The machineguns should also be more accurate. They should be more accurate than the assault rifles. And for the love of god, take the burst off the AKs.

  7. Favorite Animal: Wolf.

    Most Hated Animal: Buzzard

    Phobia: Bobcat

It was very hard for me to choose these, since animals play little to no role in my life, aside from housepets (which are in the grey area - I can't pick any that I really love or really hate). Bobcats were chosen as the phobia animal because it is the animal I would least like to have to fight off. According to the stories I have heard, they will randomly attack you and are very vicious and will not relent, and don't seem to fall for the tricks bears fall for. Don't quote me on this. I don't really know much about animals.

The buzzard was my choice for the most hated animal because well, it does nothing. The wolf is coordinated, fast, and good at killing. It kills, eats, and the buzzard cleans up the mess (although I do not think these two animals would ever be found in the same environment).

Hope this gets you a little closer to an A,

    -Dan

  8. Escape from Prison is the easiest (if you are a bit lucky). I didn't even have to kill anyone to get in the HIND and fly off.

Incursion (you know.. That one where you have to steal some documents from Guba's house..) looked pretty hard, but it was actually easy. Then again I almost pissed my pants doing it.

  9. I have been trying to make a soldier take a weapon from a crate. I added the weapon to the crate (a carl gustav) and put "this action ["TAKEWEAPON",CarlGustavLauncher] into the soldier's init field. He just sits there being artifically imcompetent.

Is there any way to make this function work?

  10. I have the same problem. I have Windows XP Home. I get static in vehicles and whenever a helo starts up the sound just kicks into idle, rather than sounding like the engine is warming up.

I tried DLing the registry thing from avon's FAQ - didn't work. One thing I did find to reduce static was turning down volume in volume control (software) and turning it up on my speakers. Doesn't elminate static completely, but it seems to reduce it..
