Quote[/b] ]This statement is simply incorrect. Numerous studies have shown that the death penalty (the 'risk of death' you speak of) is not an effective way to deter crimeI was not referring to the death penalty. I was referring to being shot by a security guard.
Ralph - They should have.
There are accidental deaths with Lego blocks. Just because a talented few play Russian roulette with semi-automatic handguns and are prone to dropping loaded weapons should not reflect the safety standards of the majority.
I do not understand your response to the principle question.
There are backround checks wherever you can purchase a weapon legally. INCLUDING GUN SHOWS.
Margarine and Butter are different, but you spread both on bread with similar results.
If substance A was made to cure cancer and killed 1,000,000 people, and substance B was made to kill people and killed 900,000 people, which would be deemed more dangerous?
-
Maybe if the Columbine kid's parents paid more attention to them we wouldn't of had this problem. There were warning signs.
Have you fired a gun?
An object that could easily kill someone else, or yourself, unintentionally.
The fact that there are so few accidental deaths proves that they do teach responsibility.
Saying that criminals rise to the challenge is ridiculous. Criminals are lazy. That is why they rob banks instead of working for the money. Because it is EASIER. If they have to risk death or a life in prison conviction they will reevaluate their decision.
-
So it is the principle and not the results that count?
-
When you have no weapons you use the civilian animation. If you could run faster with no weapons than with a weapon, civilians would fly past you. I think that is the reason it is the way it is.
-
Billy - It was repealed. Gun control is being repealed and people go nuts. I don't understand it.
Blake - I was not trying to say crime is so bad that you need an AK. I was trying to say quite the opposite. You do not see stuff about people being killed by assault weapons on the news.
Learning to shoot is not as simple as knowing the controls. If someone who has never fired a gun before goes nuts, buys an AK47, and starts shooting he will be flinching more than a taser victim.
I still do not see how arming ourselves arms criminals. The guns have to be taken from us. I don't know about average Joe Bob but my rifle is under lock and key and hidden inside of the house.
Pathy - Guns teach responsibility.
If someone truly wanted to create a massacre gun laws would not stop them. If they could not obtain AR15s or AK47s they would use pipe bombs. If they could not make pipe bombs they would use bleach and ammonia. Or they could use a pitchfork and rob a bank.
-
Alcohol has a lot greater chance of killing someone.
-
What did they use to rob the banks in Sweden?
Killing people is illegal too. Why pick on guns and not alcohol, which causes far more deaths?
Weither or not they should be restricted, there are people out there with them, lots of people, who haven't killed anyone. I do not want to debate the morality of taking all assault weapons away. I am only trying to debate the merits of attempting to.
-
Quote[/b] ]With alcohol you kill yourself, and you make an informed decision to do so by drinking too much. Not true. How many innocent people are killed by drunk driving?
As for Bob and George, the assault weapons ban would do nothing to stop them from buying a semi auto AK47. The loopholes are very big.
I don't think anyone would, on a whim, decide to rob a bank anyway. They are middleclass. One of them has a son. Completely ridiculous.
-
The robbers in the N Hollywood shootout obviously shouldn't have been given their guns back. That is not the fault of the 2nd amendment. That is the fault of the judge. I do not think it is legal for a felon to purchase a firearm.
Malvo did not use an assault rifle to mow down people. He fired single shots. It would have been no different had he been using a hunting rifle. There were probably warning signs that he was going off the deep end.
"Joe" will not be offered compensation, and probably won't go to jail.
The weapons are "commonly available on legal markets" but are usually out of criminal's price range. If they had the money to spend they probably would not be criminals.
Blake, I know you do not live in America and assumed that because you live in Finland, you completed conscript service.
You do not live in America so you would not have the grasp of the crime level here that we Americans do. Someone using an assault weapon in a crime is extremely rare. Like the statistics say, the most commonly used weapon is a revolver.
You have fired weapons so you should know that they do not make you god. It takes time to become proficient with any weapon.
If I was a criminal and knew someone who had an assault weapon I would definately not try to "steal it" from him.
What about alcohol? It serves no purpose besides fun and causes more deaths than guns do.
-
Quote[/b] ]Just look at North Hollywood shootout for example,As I said before these were illegal for them (PRIOR FELONS) to own. Thank the CA Justice system.
Gun control should be controlled by the states.
How do you know a scoped M14 would cause more deaths? That is an assumption. Maybe because he used a bolt action rifle, he took more care with each shot.
Now, lets assume assault weapons are banned. How will people react?
Law abiding citizen Bob will probably turn his assault weapon in. His investment will not be returned. The price of other weapons will go up. Supply and demand.
Joe on the other hand doesn't care about the law. He will keep his assault weapon. Nobody will come around to take it from him, so it won't matter.
Your arguments about the merits of assault weapons could be morally correct. But that is irrelevant. Gun control does not take guns out of the hands of criminals. If you can't trust someone with a gun, why do you trust them to follow the law?
Do you live in America? Have you fired an assault weapon?
-
I see that most of the support for the ban here is based on fear, not on facts. You are going on the principle that "someone could mow down a lot of children".
I do not think gun control should be a federal matter.
Remember Charles Whitman, the Texas tower sniper?
He used a hunting rifle.
What about Lee Harvey Oswald? Not an assault weapon either.
-
Probably. If you put two squads down, one will usually whoop the other, then if you flip them around, vice versa.
-
Because guns are fun to shoot.
Fact is the guns are already there, making more laws will only take them out of lawful people's hands, not criminal's.
By the way, the guns in the North Hollywood bank shootout were illegal for the shooters to own (they were felons). If I remember correctly, they went to the court and managed to get their guns back. This was not their first armed robbery.

Quote[/b] ]75% of murders commited with firearms the gun had been obtained legallyNow here's one from the Bureau of Justice
Quote[/b] ]According to the 1997 Survey of State Prison Inmates, among those possessing a gun, the source of the gun was from -
a flea market or gun show for fewer than 2%
a retail store or pawnshop for about 12%
family, friends, a street buy, or an illegal source for 80%
Another one from the same source
Quote[/b] ]During the offense that brought them to prison, 15% of State inmates and 13% of Federal inmates carried a handgun, and about 2%, a military-style semiautomatic gun.

The assault weapon ban limits the number of features a weapon can have, such as a telescoping stock, bayonet mount, ability to accept a high capacity magazine, pistol grip..
So a weapon could mount a bayonet legally, it would just sacrifice another "assault weapons feature".
-
Maybe it looks cool. I don't know. I don't want a bayonet. That's not what the ban covers. The ban covers the ability to mount a bayonet. So if I want a USGI flash suppressor for my M1A, I couldn't get one. Why? Because it has a bayonet mount. So instead you have to get reproduction parts.
-
You don't need a bayonet. But the ban does nothing to stop someone who really wants to go stab people with a bayonet. All it does is make older weapons, with bayonet mounts and etc, more expensive.
-
Quote[/b] ]I just can't understand the logic.. that makes people think people can't be trusted with "assault weapons", but can be trusted to follow a ban with loopholes wide enough to fly a 747 through..
.. that makes people think a rifle is so much more deadly with a knife attached to it, or that if someone wants to kill dozens of children, they won't do so because it's illegal to buy an AK47, not because it's illegal to kill dozens of children.

The position of the sun seems to have effects on AI skill.
You can test this on the desert island.

Nope.

Just redid the handguard and receiver textures.
I need to make sling swivels, aimpoint optics, and a bipod for the M14A2. Since Laser is doing a SOPMOD I am going to hold off on that.

This should not be happening if you have pivots loaded. Try loading a different pivot file. It should move all of the components into a heirarchy style arrangement.
-
Try switching between "Relative" and "Absolute" modes, or load linking/pivots.

Indirecthit is useful for simulating ricochets.

Here are the irons, which I just did. The image quality has suffered because of .gif, but it still gives you a pretty good idea of what they look like.

This is only three frames, so it doesn't capture the recoil and muzzle rise.
I will work on the synthetic stock textures, and more on the mystery man later.
