Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | NO discussion here!
Crazyfox replied to EricM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It doesn't feels like the same thing to hype something thats already out, not to me anyway. I don't read magazines or such either but every year I always see something from E3 one way or another. Renting one of the stages there with a cinema screen, showing how to play a coop mission with 3 other guys using Track-ir would really make an impact. Don't think you need so much money for ads after that video of that have been uploaded on youtube. -
ArmA II release date discussion thread

Okay people when you see this releasedate -> Dec 31, 2009, you need to ask yourself: Do you release a game on new years eve? Or have they been told that it will be released this year and for convenience they just type in the last day of 2009? -

Is it just me that thinks that BI lacks a bit of PR for Arma2? The PR so far feels so subtle, they release some material on the arma2 website and some magazines shows some material BI have given them. There is still a lot of people out there that has never heard of Arma2. And I can understand that it's hard for people to find all these short videos on diffrent european languages, if your not hanging around here or on any of the fan sites. Even if you as a newcomer make it to the Arma2 website, it is hard to see what actual gameplay is about. One thing I think they should do is send someone to E3 with a presentation of the game, where someone from BI play the game for about 10 mins showing the gameplay and explaining some features in it. And they should put up a similar video on the website. Not a video showing something from the Arma2 story but a small walkthrough of the game. You get more familiarized with the game by such a vid than just seeing some units with some music. Also youtube marketing can't be that expensive. Bethesda did vids like this for before the release of Fallout 3, and it worked quite well on me anyway. Sorry I just wanted to say this becouse I want to se more people this game than the few that played Arma. -
I hope BIS fix this overblooming thing. The idea of it is that an area around something bright get enlighted. Blooming is like a shortcut, putting a layer around the bright area to create that effect. But whats wrong this is that its looks like the transparent air gets brighter, which don't happends in reality. Some dust particles can get brighter but not the air. So in that cow photo the grass and the black spots on the cow should get a brighter tone. That maybe needs some more programming, but it will look more nice.

So is 26th june the confirmed releasedate for EU now? They need to bring that game to E3 for some PR. -
:raisebrow: Pre-order as in order now, get it when its released. They don't say which publisher at their website, but they got this pic up so 505 games i guess. But maybe they photoshopped it.

The expansion should leave the Chernarus story behind and do a map based on Western Afghanistan. The name of the map doesn't matter. Since chernarus is all forrest, I would like a desert/mountain map. This with one religious extremist faction such as the talibans, one rebel faction such as the Northern Alliance, and then the US and the russian federation ofc. The campaign player should play on either the taliban side or the NA side. Such a theme can't go wrong, and will sell!

ARMA2 single player game, a bit of RPG elements?
Crazyfox replied to Yapab's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Yes you can go and get missions from several NPCs, missions such as "Defend the herders sheep from the wolves". Since most enemies will carry Ak's you will end up with alot of them in your inventory, but merchants will give you a lot of gold for them. With the gold you can buy better stuff, like a T90 or a F35. You will also gain xp for every kill and go up in level, for each level you will be able to mix better potions and get better grenades, flashbangs, satchels etc. The final boss is a russian wizard that lives in this castle. He's the one who has cast a spell so its autum in Chernarus forever. But the hardest missions will be where you fight a bigfoot in a cave. This is after you get the WoW-mod of course. -
What's the first thing you are going to do when you get ArmA 2?
Crazyfox replied to L!nk07's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Press shift+minus and type "campaign". Then play the very last mission before anyone else. -
I don't know if its been said but I can pre-order Arma 2 on Xbox at local dealers. They'r stating release in Q3. It sounds to me that you don't give out that kind of information to the retailers if you'r not making a game.

You can't comment on the ai until you play the game, or someone showing you how it work. You have no clue about how they programmed it by watching some small footage. And alot of the comments on the ai are made from people that don't know how programming games works. BIS have already stated that it's the one single thing they have put down most work on, so all those comments are unnecessary. Well said. -

Can I ask that people please don't comment on the AI until we either get a Demo or a AI demonstration vid. These gameplay vids don't gives away anything about how the AI will be in Arma2, still people say "fix this, fix that". Enough with this now. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Crazyfox replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Can I ask if anyone, the betatesters or the developers have noticed any diffrence when using ATI cards and Nvidia? Like does Arma2 run best at a high resolution on a HD4890, a HD4850 x2, or a GTX 285? There is usually a diffrence between games, so just wondering. -

I don't think thats a problem for BIS at all. They didn't have a problem keeping the vehicles on the ground did they?. ;) The train only needs to follow a predefined path which already is implemented graphicly.Still why just do it for the video? I meant they could translate it from the sorce. -

Can someone please translate that again? Not having trains sounds like a lot of BS to me. If BIS can do moving cars, bicyles, airplanes and boats how hard can it be to do moving trains? They already got the train model and the tracks so wtf? And why would they put down all that work just to get the train moving for that vid only? :annoy: -
Im sure BIS is doing their best to get us some good AI. Don't compare with other games where the AI usually have a premade pattern on each map. I haven't seen any AI working together on any game. (And don't say that attacking at the same time is teamwork.) Also I think a lot of the people here complain on the AI from what they've seen in multiplayer in Arma. Sure the AI needs improvments but 95% of the missions out there are just poorly made. Like if you attack some enemies in a village in Arma there is a plutoon just lying around and waiting inside the same village without helping out their friends. And Ive never seen any mission where the maker have put up a trigger for the enemy to run away after taking too many losses.
-
Isn't it better that the trains are scripted? I mean you rather decide in the missioneditor when the train should leave a station than having it in a fixed loop.

Just to clarify since people here seems to have misread my posts. There is nothing wrong with the video itself! On the contrary it's always nice to see some Arma 2 footage, especially some in high res. What Im making a remark at is how the video was put forth on this forum. If anyone don't understand why, feel free to PM me. I can understand that, if thats the case. But if we start seeing "Arma2 runs best with the Logitech G19" and "I7 for the real Arma2 experience" threads. Then people might go with the "If you don't like it - don't watch the it" argument on this forum. Yeah but not everyone is as sharp as you, you know.As for the replies saying Im just here to put down BIS, or that im jealous, negative etc. I rather check out the other threads than go on about this forever, so yes this is me -> :rage:.

I've heard others say they think i should buy a Track IR, though not as convincingly as Dslyecxi. ;) But Im sure he has his reasons, maybe one beeing that everybody should have a nice gaming experience. Although it's a debatable matter if his vid is sharing or nice, it's not what my post is about. As if he is a common member there is nothing that giving away thats he is not that, and a thread not being locked doesn't automaticly say "endorced by BIS" to everyone. Im also sure that BIS gave him the green light. Im just speaking my mind here. Im greatful for whatever Dslyecxi does to improve the game and the community. But using the forum to market products and posting "click here to buy"-links.. Excuse me if I disagree with that.
-
I totally agree here. This is an ad no doubt, and it seems to be working. I am okay with companies using Arma2 when doing commercials. But letting a "common" forum member post (In the press coverage thread as well) in advance that some Arma2 footage will be up for display, which laters turns out to be an ad is wrong as I see it. Also I don't like seeing that a thread here is devoted to promte a product. @BIS. This did not feel like an Arma2 ad, and I think you would manage fine to do such a video by yourself without another company in it. I know this is a money issue. But you have a devoted fanbase here waiting to see some preview footage, please don't let other companies exploit that with this kind of advertising. You have a bigger share of mature fans than most other games developers, and some us don't like beeing exploited in this sort of way. Of course you can let other companies use your product in their ads, but please do it proper. I am sure Track IR is all Dslyecxi say it is, but cut the facade guys.

Is it just me or has the running animation been worked over? In Dslyecxi's teaser they seem to run more leaned forward and not so upstraight as they do in for example the main trailer on the arma2 website. -

Omg you people. He's just showing off his gadgets at his workstation. It's not like it will involve bottled water, a pencil and a post it note aswell. I think he will show us a proper gameplay vid of the beta, since the review vids have been crap. Hopefully he includes showing the AI, the destruction model, the current radiovoices, the train, the naval units etc etc.. Isn't the track-IR the same in Arma 2 as in Arma 1? If so, why would he focus on that? -
The best footage of the AI is in this at 02:52 to 04:48. (Old footage btw.)People jump to conclutions after seeing some video out there, not knowing if the soldiers were quickly placed out there through the mission editor by some reviewer or whatever. In this video linked in my post you can see him giving the AI move orders and putting them in "danger-mode". And I think that as a group they move better than in any other game.

One question that MANY fans care about.
Crazyfox replied to CyDoN's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Good post. Are you saying that in your mission, if you are the first one to get shot you can have to wait up 15 minutes? Splitting one side up in two squads, and advanced no respawn missions does in fact make longer waiting times. I don't really have a problem waiting becouse i think there are more pro's than con's with no respawn. One solution to this problem is to put the respawning point at a remote location and let the dead guys have a small firefight while waiting. -
I wasn't wrong becouse I didn't say that setviewdistance wasn't implemented. What I said was that I wanted BI to implement this: Addressing the script. Just so not every mission maker needs to put it in there. As for you confidence that mission makers will use such a script, i do not share it. Yes I can understand that some people call it cheating, and that it require some hardware for servers and players alike. Here is my reply to that. Having view distance as the regulating factor to minimize lag is wrong. One of the great things about BI's games is the landscapes and the vehicles. To be able to utilize these things to their full potential should be the top priority. A slow server should instead try to have more optimized missions than to beat down on the view distance. I think clients should be able to change their view distance in the official game without a downloaded mod. As for server admins, maybe they can be given the possibility to set a maximum allowed distance? When it comes to cheating, the graphics shouldnt interfere with gameplay. If you as player can't play with such a high view distance that you can see the enemy and you are playing with the lowest graphics possible, then you need a better PC. You need to draw the line somewhere when it comes to minimum hardware requirements. Im aware that I can get all my whises granted with the correct server settings. But if i get into a plane today on 98% of Arma 1's servers I will be flying with a view of less than 4km. And thats the problem im adressing here. Edit: Np Walker.
