This rather begs the question of why they would even choose to include a multi-barrelled SPAAG if the engine doesn't support it properly. Pending some sort of correction, I guess you could say that some dopey Sahrani conscript just mis-understood the meaning of "1 in 4 tracer" Â Â

That's interesting. Now I may be able to add 3x more detail to my own crappo gun models! Â Â I suppose a lot of the polys now go to making smooth-looking iron sights. Is the 3D iron sights view actually taken from the pilot LOD or is there a separate additional "iron sights" model?

Hopefully it doesn't say HECKLOR either Looking good mate, the OFP pack was awsome, surely this will be to HOCKLER Is it 4,600 triangles or 4,600 misc. polys for the HK 416? I already thought I was pushing the envelope with 2,000 or so triangles!

Army of the Czecho-Slovak republic
Col. Faulkner replied to tasi's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
According to the "Inspectorate of Armaments pamphlet MP 165 A Brief history of the Bren Light Machine Gun" in my collection; The ZB vz. 26 is an ancestor of the British Bren Mk. I - itself a descendant from Vaclav Holek's vz. 24 Praga. Holek (gun designer at Zbrojovaka Brno) collaborated with the British Royal Small Arms Factory and the Inspectorate of Armaments and what was later the "Bren gun" slowly evolved during the first half of the 1930s. There were at least 4 prototype ZGB gun models trialled: ZGB Model 1 of 1930, Models 2 & 3 in 1933 and ZGB Model 4 in 1934. The gun the British conducted large troop trials with, and eventually bought Empire-wide manufacturing licenses for was the ZGB vz. 34 Model 4 Type 2. It is almost identical to what the British manufactured as the Bren Mk. I although the British Bren Mk. I was further developed from the ZGB vz. 34 by armourers at Enfield before production. The first British Bren Mk. I guns came out of the Enfield factory in September 1937. It's arguable that the Czech guns' place in history is due in large part to the manufacturing contracts sold to the British Empire forces. The Czech vz. 37 also came very close to being adopted by the British as a GPMG in the 1950s (the Belgian FN MAG 58 was actually finally chosen). Regarding the BESA; I also have in my collection a letter dated July 1938 which invites some senior British officers to a firing-range demonstration of the 15mm BESA ("which has recently been approved by the War Office"). -
International Sahrani Force
Col. Faulkner replied to freddern's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I don't know about that. As an extreme example, in WW2 the first British commando units were officially called "SS" (for "Special Service")! You can imagine how "popular" that title was among the men! Â Insignia of "signals troop SS Brigade" Ok, derail over, back to fantasy UN/NATO stuff... -
BMD-1 Airborne Fighting Vehicle
Col. Faulkner replied to mechastalin's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Yay! I always liked these! All we need now are some "desant" for the OPFOR. -
@Nephilim, I know all this theory. It's rather hard trying to work out what exactly is possible with normal mapping, though. In any case, I think even the new "Masada" weapon is still far too "detailed" for use.

Except that its internals are copied from the Armalite AR-180, circa 1963 Â

Can some one teach me to mod?
Col. Faulkner replied to Tricloid's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
In any case it's largely academic since there are no Arma modding tools out yet (yes, OK, I know it is technically possible to do some half-finished things already). In the meantime you could do some more general research on 3D modelling, mapping and how to use graphics tools to create textures. -
Army of the Czecho-Slovak republic
Col. Faulkner replied to tasi's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
How did you do the pierced barrel jacket on this? Are the holes transparent textures or are they done in the model? -
Is [almost] 14,000 triangles an OK size for an ArmA weapon?
-
30x!? But that'd give me negative FPS in ArmA!

Can some one teach me to mod?
Col. Faulkner replied to Tricloid's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Other already-established modding teams have the same modern British stuff already planned, anyway. If you just want to play with British equipment then you just need to wait a bit. There are already ArmA soldier models "reskinned" to look like they are wearing British DP combat suits and you can even get some SA80 and LSW models (you can find them on this forum). With the default ArmA M16s you can even pretend they are UKSF (sort of) -
Apart from the several hit by "friendly" 120mm DU rounds and [most likely] a Hellfire missile in GW1, you mean?

Can some one teach me to mod?
Col. Faulkner replied to Tricloid's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
What sort of tank? What sort of helicopter? Â edit: I concur on the fact that it takes a long time. It's a hell of a lot of work for what you finally end up with, although it is good to see something you've made working in the game. -
Shouldn't that be "POLICIA"? They speak Spanish on Sahrani, don't they?

My new Desert & DPM Troops
Col. Faulkner replied to G_H_Play_AKA_BOSS's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I concur that the British do use lightweight knee (and elbow) pads in 2-colour Dessy DPM with light tan straps. The ones on these figures look just fine to me. I'd also suggest that if you are going to throw your toys out of the pram and go to pieces like this on receiving criticism then you'll not flourish on here. -
Errr...that thing in the picture isn't X-1, that's shaped more like an Italian siluri a lenta corsa or a British "Chariot".

A "speargun"? Do you realise how big these things were? You'd need one at least this big:
-
Maybe you lack "natural authority"

Resident Evil: Cold Blooded Killers
Col. Faulkner replied to morgwin's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
What is "Resident Evil", is that the same as "Doom"? -
It wouldn't make it a Role Playing Game. It'd make it a more realistic wargame.

Very little damage most likely, although there are anecdotal reports of Stinger missiles tracking (by accident) on ground vehicles. In the real world, however, you'd probably get your balls chewed for firing a $30,000 dollar missile at a vehicle, when an AT4 costs about $2,000 Â Mind you, the other way around, anti-tank weapons have been fired at aircraft in history - witness the "surface to air" 84mm carl gustav rounds fired at Argie aeroplanes in the Falklands war (and the RPGs used as SAMs by various "armies") edit: Anecdotal reports of real world Stinger missiles tracking vehicles, I mean.

I'd advise you to be prepared for a considerable amount of  scorn over your decision to force players to take on the persona of a Nazi. I know this from experience of trying to do a mod that planned to allow people to play as Provisional IRA (ye gods, the hassles, ridicule, acrimony and calumny we had over that! ). Good luck with your mod, though.

I do hope that a "Waffen SS tank commander" will not be the only player option offered for the campaign.
