    Custom radio sounds?

If you have a microphone you could probably yell "allah whackjob" by yourself and make your own great .ogg files! But..."hilarious"? Â

    Can sombody confirm this plz???

well theres rumours around and dont shot me if its just hearsay but for china release we gonna get this baby Actually I was missing a push-bike in ArmA The bike is a most under-rated piece of military logistical...thingy...

Wow! Where can I buy that cool looking game in those last two pics!?

That hardly "deploys them for an ambush" Just means they move to the left of your current axis of advance, they don't flank a position. "Negative" I just thought this meant we were getting some decent squad AI, I don't know what came over me... You mean "orange rockets"?

    Winter Warfare Mod

Are you actually going to script some special winter environmental factors? Arctic warfare comprises rather more than just a bunch of guys in white pyjamas!

    Can sombody confirm this plz???

I'm rather intrigued by this (from KyleSarnik's link): "...you can deploy your squad for surprise ambushes, have them flank enemies, and even utilize civilian equipment!"

    MP5 SD6 not to scale?

And what's wrong with a moustache!? A fine body of men, there! Is that Charles Bronson second in line!?

    ArmA Addon request thread

If you have "OFP: Red Hammer" the first mission in that had penalties for shooting non combatants, presumably scripted.

    Bullet-Penetration...

L2A2 is/was the designation for the ammo type: Round, 7.62mm, Ball, L2A2. Both the British and Australian service rifles were L1A1s (both semi-auto only and identical in all but small details).

    KA50 internal views

Well nowadays your "all round combat awareness" comes from your other squadron members flying in formation with you and from the extensive battery of avionics, target and threat detection, countermeasures and survivability systems. Almost none of this is modelled in ArmA, though, so it's little wonder that it seems less than impressive.

    MP5 SD6 not to scale?

Are [real] suppressed MP5s legal to own in any case in Germany (even with all the paperwork)?

    MP5 SD6 not to scale?

Aren't there more detailed addon versions of that thing in the works already? That jackal weapons pack with 3,000,000 weapons in it probably has several variants of it. I'm thinking of doing an early production version of the MP5 for a 1970s/80s themed project, but there'll no doubt eventually be almost as many MP5 addons as there are M4 addons.

    Cold War Rearmed Discussion

Two alternative islands; otherwise identical except one with the ArmA trees and the other with something closer to the OFP trees, would be nice. Many folks have real trouble with the ArmA trees causing a massive decrement in fps. I think a heavily ArmA-forested island would be largely unusable for many.

    MP5 SD6 not to scale?

A quick search reveals that one can actually get a very similar DPM semi-dry suit made to measure in the UK! I'd get one, except that I think I'd look like a nobber, so maybe I'll just stick to my current "ninja black". I'm not too amazed that BIS got the MP5 proportions a bit wrong. Unless you have access to actual examples, or proper drawings, it's often hard to find plan views of guns. And published specifications don't tend to include "width" very often. Not that that excuses them in any way, of course!
  15. I believe the SASMOD (you will find it elsewhere on this forum) is doing something similar to this.

    MP5 SD6 not to scale?

Who is the bod in the DPM wetsuit!? I want one! (the wetsuit I mean) Oh, yeah, the MP5s in ArmA are not bulky enough (and are totally recoil-less)

    Spec4ce Skins

Despite all the technobabble on their site, those Spec4ce "Forest" and "Woodland" patterns look amazingly (and suspiciously) like digitised British DPM (which says a lot for the two artists who first designed DPM in the early 1960s) Â Now if only the ArmA U.S. Army would reequip with that digital one for the war in N. Sahrani! Â Â

The one in ArmA is a sheer travesty of the capabilities of the real HOKUM (just like most of the other vehicles). If they'd built the KA-50 in about 1950 then the ArmA one would probably be a realistic representation of it. Â

    Sniping

On the real PSO-1 the top chevron is turret adjustable to between 100 and 850 metres. I have no idea what it is meant to be set at in the game, however. edit (more detail): There are two turrets on the telescope that allow you to dial in a range to correspond to the top chevron. The other chevrons then each correspond to 100m more than the previous chevron, up to 1200 metres maximum. Practically, though, the SVD isn't really meant to be used at much over 600 metres. This is on the real SVD, I can't say how authentic the Arma representation of it is (I never "snipe" in the game so far)

How to get addons to show in game?

Apparently not (or at least none of the few addons that I've looked at so far have ever had one). Anyway, I discovered that my own problem was due to some (as yet undetermined) incompatibilty with another addon.

    petition for wood camo

The ACU is apparently ace for "urban terrain" though  But it's true; they should give the ArmA boys a uniform colour that is suitable for every environment and that has "stood the test of battle" - like THIS for example.  Incidentally, Clavicula, why do you need to pay out of pocket for your uniforms?

    Authentic sound & weapon Mod

I'm rather more concerned with the angular size of men at given ranges than with the actual FOV. Just doing a rough calculation based on you sitting half a metre away from your screen, a man 150cm tall standing 200m away from you should subtend an angle (measured on your screen) of a bit less than 4mm. As it is they subtend considerably less than that meaning that they effectively appear much further away than they really are, and thus making it much harder to spot and shoot targets than in reality it would be. You might be familiar with the sort of calculation done to derive this figure, since you're a shooter yourself. I used to have to work out representative sizes of things for training young soldiers on landscape targets. For example we often were forced to shoot on a 50m pistol range using subcalibre devices in our rifles, but I needed the boys to see what it was like to fire at the same targets 300 metres away, so I had to work out how big the target had to be at 50m to look as if it was actually at 300m. Roughly the same sort of principle applies here except "distance to representative target" is "distance to screen". I stress that it is rough but I am just trying to point out how misleading the view in the game is with all zoom removed. The formula (adapted for our purposes) is: (height of target in cm x distance from screen in m) ---------------------------------------------------- Â Â Â Â Â Â (representative range in m) to give an answer in cm Thus, taking our example 150cm ArmA man standing at 200m, and assuming I am sitting 50cm from the screen, we get 150 x 0.5 ---------- Â 200 Â Â Â = 0.75cm = 0.375cm = 3.75mm so measured on screen he should appear a bit less than 4mm high. Currently men standing at this range are much smaller than this on screen implying that they are drawn as if they were much further away than they are supposed to be. The discrepancy becomes even greater if the men are taller than 150cm in the game. Screen resolution alters this somewhat but the numbers are still of the same order and the point is still valid. The problem, as I said in my last post, is that the only way you can correct this, because of the way the game works, is to alter the scene's FOV to make it narrower (or to have a selective zoom feature, which is the real reason why the game has one in the first place). When I was playing Op. Flashpoint I usually opted for the first option of setting a narrower "more zoomed in" FOV by default and totally removing the automatic "iron sights zoom" (I really don't like the way the iron sights zoom in). Not ideal, but I did get used to it and it did make the targets appear a more realistic size naturally - without having to "zoom in" to check how they looked all the time. I was working on adjustable sights for my addon rifles at the time so being able to do a bit more accurate range estimation based on target appearance was important for me. I'm wondering if using a TrackIR might make a permanently "zoomed in" view in ArmA less restrictive to use now. I should say that the sounds and the new tracer effects in your mods are very good, and I'd like to keep using them. I am having a problem though because including any of your mods seems to disable all other addons (they don't appear in the editor even though they are all correctly installed).

How to get addons to show in game?

I think I'm getting the same problem as the thread starter. If I put any addon .pbo into the Arma\AddOns folder the new units never show up in the editor like they're supposed to. I've never managed to work out why.

    Ambush mod?

I'd often wondered about something similar. The user interface for commanding AI men in the field (especially when you come under effective enemy fire and need to direct activities quickly and precisely) really leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't give a very realistic feeling. I'm really hoping that it might be possible to make improvements to this somehow.

    Funny Review of ArmA

It's a free and open discussion forum devoted to the game, (ffs a GAME). Expressions of disdain for puerile and petulant rubbish like that "review" are entirely approriate here. And having this as a leisure interest does not preclude one from having had other life experiences.
