Moves speed up, anim interupts, fire, grenades
Col. Faulkner replied to mirok's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Yes, so they'd need to add some more anims. BIS presumably have the wherewithal to do so easily. The extra work would be fully justified in correcting the current badly-botched attempt at simulating the use of something as simple as binoculars in the game. It may not be the highest priority but I think that they really should be considering this sometime. -
The "splash" radius of a LAW, and all special purpose AT weapons for that matter is tiny, which makes it totally ineffective against infantry, unlike BIS' LAW Well it's not actually all that tiny and the 66 and Charlie G were used against bunkers and ships and positions and houses in the Falklands (the Charlie G was also used "surface to air" on at least one occasion...paras  ). Allowing the AI toms to let fly with them at enemy troops would represent that "creative" range of application somewhat. You could keep the "splash radius" suitably small even while allowing that.

At its simplest you could have a wee indicator thingy on the in-game map that tells you wind speed and direction. I believe that estimating the wind is a problem that often beats even the best snipers in real life, though. But I'd be chuffed if they just allowed sight setting for range, never mind adding wind effects too.

Yes, I suggest we all ask very earnestly, but nicely, to have binoculars implemented as a type of weapon so you can move with them and easily change your stance. I don't see any real advantages to the way they are done currently, but I do see many disadvantages. I reckon all it would need is a binoculars ("ManActHoldBinocular"?) anim and some standard weapon coding. -

Except that there are no women in the whole of Sahrani, and no animals either, so that just leaves... -
Mod-Tools. Will this usher in everything we yearn?
Col. Faulkner replied to BLSmith2112's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Given the obvious interest and anticipation, it'd not be unreasonable of BIS, as a professional software house, to give some rough estimate of when (or even if) we might expect these. The trite and dismissive "they'll be out when they're ready" line we always get is very tiresome. -
That presumably depends on what surface effect you want to create. Just creating a few rivets or bolts on a plane surface, for instance. Couldn't that easily be done using a 2D program?
-
We also have an English proverb: "fine words butter no parsnips" I keep wondering if Jahve spells "Entirely" like that on purpose.
-
It won't happen unless it gets logged in the bug tracker. I'd do it but I can't so far seem to find out how to get an account on the bug tracker. If someone else logs this in the meantime, please make sure to ask for the ability to add an adjustable feature to iron sights too, not just the rifles with telescopes.

So how are these greyscale maps usually made? Are they often drawn by hand?

I know what you mean. I also intensely dislike the way weapons with bipods are modelled in ArmA (or, more specifically, the way they are not modelled at all in ArmA). Firing a 13kg machine gun while lying prone in Arma is portrayed as if you hadn't bothered to unfold the bipod legs and are trying to hold and aim it unsupported like it was a BB gun. -
I don't really blame them for not having updates. All my own projects are pretty much "on hold" too until the tools come out. To be honest, I don't realistically expect to see the tools come out any time soon, nor to get any real information about their projected release either. As you know, all we ever get is a lazy and insulting non-answer: "They'll be out when they're ready".

I hope this ungrammatical riposte wasn't directed at me! This pointless argument has been done to death already in another thread.
-
Didn't we have this tedious "no children" argument already?

Most of the default ArmA faces are already too "old-looking".

Yes, they're the smartest, most uniform-looking mercenary unit I've ever seen. They must have an ex-Guards RSM or something (joke! I do understand the current limitations). Â Obsolete weaponry on a present day mercenary unit looks a bit strange actually. Instead of a 1960s-era FAL wouldn't you at least be better giving them the more modern DSA-58 variant? The notion of any present day mercenary unit using a British L42A1 rifle is ridiculous (in fact, they'd never have used them even in the 1980s - because even then they were, frankly, old fashioned and obsolescent). Nowadays an L42A1 rifle is a rare and highly-sought after collectors item. An example in its arms chest without any other accessories will easily sell for about 4,000 pounds (just be careful not to get trampled by the stampede of drooling Lee Enfield collectors! )

Is it technically feasible to create human figures of varying stature in the game anyway? A battalion of Gurkhas wouldn't half put the wind up the SLA! Â

Agreed, but you're not the first or the only one to think like this. Such "Morealistic" missions have already been created for Flashpoint, and a mod I personally was working on (and which I'm seriously thinking of resurrecting in-part for ArmA) featured this aspect heavily. -

According to the BTS the "uninterruptible" animation problems have been corrected and should be in patch 1.06: http://bugs.armed-assault.net/view.php?id=1970 -
Will you be able to do this...? Â

Kitting soldiers user-missions possible?
Col. Faulkner replied to johnny vet boy b's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
You can also put "addWeapon" and "addMagazine" commands in the Initialization fields of the soldier units. The commands have not changed from OFP and are described HERE
