I don't agree with your last point. Armed Assault is the only game I'm having issues with Vista specifically, all of the following run AOK. -Company of Heroes (obviously) - Doom 3 and RoE - GRAW - Hitman: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts and Hitman: Blood Money - Max Payne and Max Payne 2 - NFS: Porsche Challenge and NFS: Most Wanted - Oblivion - Prey - Quake 4 - Rainbow Six 3 - Raven Shield - Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends - Serious Sam and Serious Sam 2 - SWAT 3 and SWAT 4 - UT and UT2004 (haven't had a go with UT2003 yet). I still have a minor issue with the 8800 drivers and Oblivion, but I've been having this problem since my XP upgrade. As such, Vista shouldn't be tainted with a poor name as far as gaming goes, since the vast majority of programs run, and run well.

Australians At War Mod

Sounds great. Keep us posted, eh? -
Hello all, I'm posting this here because I'm about to rip my head off in frustration. I'm running Armed Assault on: Intel C2D 6600 @ 3.5GHz ASUS EN8800GTX @ 630/975MHz Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2Zs ASUS P5W DH Deluxe 2GB Corsair RAM @ 667MHz Vista Ultimate Western Digital 36GB 10,000RPM Raptor w. 16MB cache Western Digital 150GB 10,000RPM Gaming Edition Raptor w. 16MB cache. Now, this is all well and good, I have no problems, except that I'd like to be able to have texture quality above normal. Everything else is set on very high and runs like a charm, albeit with texture quality on normal. The second I put texture quality on high or very high, I get the dreaded and much-despised "cannot create system memory surface" error. The maxmem=512 command is no help at all, and I've tried to solve the issue with version 1.5 and the latest beta. Also, I've rolled back through 3 separate beta and WHQL driver releases for the card from Guru3D, and searched the forums. No luck. Is anyone else getting this evil problem, or is there any other solution I might try to circumvent this evil problem that I can attempt? Thanks for reading. Â

Vista, an 8800, and a lot of pain.

Sounds like a plan, maestros, I will give it a go. Btw, here is a happy screenshot of what I get if my settings are too high, ie, an imminent "cannot create system texture" crash is about to occur. I name it, Playdough Assault. Poor, I know. Ziggy - because I'm one of those annoying "must-be-up-to-date-with-everything" blokes. I couldn't go back to XP now, anyway - Armed Assault is my only game that isn't working well. Games like Oblivion even seem more stable under Vista, despite the shoddy drivers. Tracer Gun Kata - mate, you've earned yourself a potential beer - those settings are insofar rock solid. Not a single crash or Playdough yet, although I've only played for 20 minutes. I'll keep you posted. -

Nice to see you too, sickboy. I actually got my 6600 up to 3.7GHz with my cooling, but throttled back to 3.5 as it didn't effect my benchmarking all that much, and I'd like to have my chip for another couple of years. I agree about the 8800's problems, but usually I find I can fix these things, being decent with computers. Insurmountable problems irritate me, and these constant crashes make texture-testing and mission making nigh on a suicidal experience. I read in the main Vista thread that the maxmem fix was an XP workaround only. I'll fiddle with my settings, I don't think AA is all that important anyway. Thanks for your help, bud. -

You mean the 101.70s? Yeah, I gave them a whirl, and I'm still getting the same issue. I check ASUS support and Guru3D almost every day in the so far vain hope that a new, all-conquering driver will come out. Thanks anyway, mate - did they work for you? Miffed is too weak a word, I mean, I have what's currently the most powerful graphics card on the planet, a processor running around 600MHz faster than the X6800, decent RAM, a 750W PSU and my favourite game keeps crashing. <Sigh> -
The problem, which I have been getting too, seems to be directly linked to texture quality at my end, and I erroneously created a new thread, having missed this one. It's possible to get the texture quality to high, and still have the game run stably, but only if one sacrifices other graphics parameters. - EDIT: Just for bugwatching's sake, my specs: Running ArmA versions 1.5 and beta 1.5.5143, and I'm getting the problem on both builds. Vista Ultimate Intel C2D E6600 @ 3.5GHz 2GB Corsair DDRII RAM @ 667MHz ASUS P5W DH Deluxe ASUS EN8800GTX @ 630/975MHz Creative Audigy 2ZS WD Raptor X 150GB WD Raptor 36GB (OS Disk)

OK, I just discovered a thread 8 pages long concerning this specific problem - I'll take a look there. Exactly how I missed it with the forum search function, I'll never know. Admins, please lock this thread, I apologise for wasting everyone's time here. -
Hardware Issues: Tips/Tricks/Solutions
CameronMcDonald replied to Jack-UK's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
In a sense it's a good thing those new XP drivers had no improvement - I'm a Vista-ite over here, and I haven't seen a decent driver yet for Armed Assault. My poor, poor EN8800GTX. If those XP drivers had been better, I may have just gone back to dual-boot. -
RHS Hind v1.0 for ArmA
CameronMcDonald replied to Shadow NX's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I don't hang around these forums much anymore, and I don't intend to until the modelling tools come out, but man, this definitely deserves a kudos. Great job to Scar for his model, to RHS and to the ArmA converters - a lovely fly. Almost brought tears to my eyes thinking about the old OPF days. Two thumbs up. -
I find a tweak that help my Arma performance.
CameronMcDonald replied to NorthStorm's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Dude, ArmA runs like crap on your system because your card is 256MB. Plus you've got a P4, like me, which is a problem, even when running at 4GHz my ArmA still can clog up in certain areas. I need to get my hands on a Core 2/Core Quad. Then my 8800 will be unleashed, finally. -

I looked at this topic and thought "eh? Be 32000?" But this plane is great, even if it's just an OFP relic imported over. At least it can be done, people. A redone model would get my full vote though.

CameronMcDonald replied to iGnitor's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Once ArmA grows on you, you'll never play OFP again... well, at least not unless you want a couple of good ole rounds of "FLAGFIGHTGUNS" on Nogova, something I still enjoy with my buddies. No joke, just buy the game. If not for the original BIS campaign, then for the mods-to-be. -
Talk about kickass. Well spotted, Lex.
-
Well for starters the FN MAG is bloody heavy, so I'd advise a rather small dexterity value for the Bravo.

These aren't bad at all. What I would recommend to Frederf in the future is to angle your shoulder pockets a bit further forward, they don't go straight up-down. Otherwise, not a bad effort. All we need now is to be able to fix up the light maps so the name patches etc don't look so flat. -

I think maltesefalcon is working on our beloved Aussie grunts. Not sure if XDF is somewhere involved too (I haven't been round for a while) but yeah, there is work going on. -
Were the units with the ACU vest ever released?
CameronMcDonald replied to Jblack's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Kind of missed this thread, but yeah, I've done a retex too, but I'm not releasing mine until I can add a rack and get rid of that goddamn USMC helmet. Anything else seems like a travesty, IMHO. -

These are good. Your ACU has definitely improved, but I've always wondered why you didn't choose to use a better hand model. No matter, I guess, your units are tops.
