    Keys - Enhanced Interaction System

    Ok.. Quickly trying to get up to speed on ArmA3.. Basically, I love this mod.. Really helps with the awkward menu system (I much prefer to have a key for a specific action). However, it seems that most servers I try to join have 'issues' with the Signature of the files.. Anyone else having this issue and is there a fix? Is it just that the servers need to be set to accept the mod? If so, that's a pain - and makes the mod, pretty much, useless for the majority of public servers.

    crCTI Kastenbier Edition

    Nice work.. Finally making the move from OFP to ArmA3 (after testing Arma1 cti a few years ago, which I thought was rubbish). New daughter has delayed things by a couple of years but that's life! Only the one (minor) thing for now (only some limited testing with a dedicated server - built using SteamCMD - and running server on a client). - Text is very small on the equipment loadout screen. I know this was reported earlier in the thread but wondering if there are plans for a 'fix'? Cheers, #H

    Arma has it lost or gained?

    Maddog Anyone who has bought a copy of ArmA is more than entitled to post whatever comment he or she feels about the game.. This is a public forum and as long as you stay within the forum rules, you can post what you want.. And remember, just because you dont agree with someone elses point of view, doesnt mean its bollocks. I have seen far more 'reasoned' arguments from people with legitimate concerns about ArmA and its development than I have seen from people defending it. #C

    Arma feedback thread - based on 1.11

    Thanks for the patch.. Appreciated, but I'm afraid there is still a lot to do. First test I tried was to see whether the AI pathfinding up slopes on islands was any better (First thing I always do with each patch). Unfortunately it failed at the first hurdle. The AI would not board even "board" the boat I was driving - After walking around for a minute or so they just stood there doing pirhouettes .. Even when right beside the boat they would not board. I have tried exactly the same scenario on previous patches and they always boarded the boat (but failed later, getting stuck on gentle slopes).. Anyone any similar experiences with AI around boats/water after 1.11? #C

    March 6th Update on Patch Status

    Agreed, Sickboy. BI's information machine seemed to run out of fuel a long time ago. Glad they are keeping us up to date - for all the time it takes. I am waiting for a stage that Armed Assault is playable (with respect to CTI), hopefully the AI improvements will help and I'm glad to see them announced. Re the Fanboy/BIS Pr discussion. I hope you're right about ArmA2, I do hope it's successful and that people will buy it. Though unfortunately due to my negative experiences with ArmA (and a general feeling of dissatisfaction in the community) I 'very much doubt' that I will be one of them - It would have to be VERY special. Time will tell. #C

    Arma feedback thread - based on 1.09

    First thing I did on 1.09 was test a problem I had with the AI not knowing how to get from one point to another.. I landed a squad on Isla del Vida (To the NE of the island, a zone East of hill 82.) I had always had problems making landings here before.. The AI would not be able to move beyond a certain point (They cant move further than about 10 meters from the waterline so end up swimming and losing their weapons) even though there was a clear path with no obstacles. It is not even that steep. Well, to cut a long story short, they still get stuck (stuck on nothing that I can see anyway). They cant move further than a certain point and say "negative" when you try to move them further inland. Trying to move to point A (or anywhere else inland), they all get stuck in or near circled area. Even when there is only 1 AI there at the time it still gets stuck.. When the others have finished messing around in the water they get stuck around here too.. I was hoping this would have been fixed. Why do the AI seem to think its fine to go into the water when they dont have to? They should not EVER go into the water unless specifically ordered IMHO. I'll test other general features of the patch when I get a minute. #C

    ATARI Dead...Arma Dead Too?

    I agree with most of what you have written, however, until they get the AI problems and damage model fixed, OFP remains a more complete product. These are game breaking problems in my  (and many others) opinions. Yes, the controls are better in ArmA and it does look better - however, I primarily want a game to 'play' better. Good graphics should be a bonus, not one of the main reasons for me to buy a game. Unfortunately, everyone concentrates on looks when they see reviews etc (and devs/publishers know this or they wouldn't re-touch screenshots). Mind you, theres not much else you can do until you get your hands on a demo. It also has a lot to do with what type of game you play - CTI, CTF, Coop etc. Some work a lot better than others - Coop plays better than CTI at present. We need those patches (and better PR and information) from BIS. #C

    Real life fire mission request.

    If you havent read it yet, I would recommend "The guns of War".. A two part book about a Canadian FOO (Basically, an Artillery forward observer) of a 25pdr arty regiment in WW2.. Best WW2 book I've ever read. From memory... Coordinates, 3 rounds troopfire (3 rounds per gun). Usually took 1-2 mins to arrive - if the guns were 'available'. He had different types of concentrations (Mike and Uncle targets). Mike targets would be I think 16 guns, Uncle targets 72 guns - Maybe not precise, but you get the idea.. You could allow for 'corrections of the moment' - weather, temperature etc. Depends on how detailed you want to be. #C

    What made OPF better?

    OFP is better than ArmA in the following respects. - The fact that the setting or situation was believeable in OFP (Cold war setting). A fictional country and a fictional enemy in ArmA just doesnt add up. This as well as the fact that the campaigns weren't written by a pack of chimps, led to a much better atmosphere. - The fact that 6 months after you bought the game, you didn't hear about a sequel due out the next year - EA Stylee. - Less bl**dy frustrating AI.. The AI in OFP knew how to move from one point to another inland without deciding to go for a swim and lose all its gear. The AI's plus points in ArmA don't make up for its game-breaking negative points. This pushes it below OFP in my opinion. - crCTI works properly.. - The fact that you couldnt destroy a tank with a MG. Fix point 3 - and make it easier to fix 4 and they will have much less of an uphill struggle to try to sell me ArmA2. #C
  12. Hi BIS/In the know Moderators, Any chance you could update your changelog for 1.09 to give us at least some idea of the planned changes for the patch. I can only see 3 fixes/changes on the Wiki. I am not asking for a release date - the usual suspects would pipe in with a predictable "When its done" (Ho ho). I (and I am sure many more) would just appreciate some more information (whether its finalised or not) on the changes forthcoming in 1.09. ie.. A changelog! So far, any information regarding the changes in 1.09 feels like its been drip fed to us... Possible? Many thanks, #C

    Fixing ArmA

    Matt - Not giving up on ArmA.. I just find that I dont play it any more. There is very definitely something missing from ArmA so I mainly play OFP. I am hoping that patches or mods will bring back that old OFP feeling. Hence posting in this thread - fixing ArmA. Blacksphere - Not sure who you were referring to, so I will hold back. .. We've had OFP for around 5 years. ArmA has been out since the beginning of the year (February for UK and what - May for the US). People have went out and bought it in their masses and almost as soon as some people buy it, we hear that ArmA2 is going to be released next year!!! ArmA1 isnt even finished. Forgive me for feeling that we're not going to get out of ArmA what we got from OFP. #C

    Once again, you are flaming and once again your reading and comprehension skills are letting you down.. Are you trying to pick a fight or something? I said that there was more than enough room for the 1 or 2 ai to maneuver themselves into position without going into the water.. I was leading and there 'was' enough room. As have I (mission editing) and its a nightmare.. Even if you try to send single AI up from the beach to a point in a straight line with no visible obstructions they will refuse and eventually go swimming (though it is dependent on the terrain to an extent). It simply is much more fiddly than it should be... They just need to be directed properly, and yes, I have my share of knowledge here, working on missions that include men near water, in water or in boats, helos, whatever. So you think that its ok to go into the water and lose their equipment when they dont have to? Hmmmm. O....K.. This thread is to post negative experiences with the game.. I have posted mine and you replied with a totally incorrect comment as to 'MY' experiences.. Were you looking over my shoulder or something.. How the hell do you know? In fact.. Not bothering to finish this.. Your flaming will end up getting this thread locked (and I have noticed your inappropriate and superior attitude to other casual posters in the past). And for the record, I didn't say that your initial post was flaming.. It was one of the options.. 'Your' second post definitely was though - as will be your next. #C

    Balschoiw.. No idea what you're talking about (To be honest, I dont think 'you' know either).. The problem is that AI seem to think that its perfectly ok to walk/swim through water as part of their route to 'returning to formation'. If you cant see that this was the main point of my earlier post; you either didn't read it properly (likely) or you're just a happy-flamer (also likely) or you havent played the game and seen it happen. AI behave stupidly aound water when they have just dismounted (boat/chopper whatever). The AI 'didnt' return to formation (which was on the default). They ran around for a bit then went straight into the water - there was plenty of room for them to manoever themselves into the formation selected (there was only 1 or 2 ai in the chopper). I have been playing ArmA and OFP long enough to know how to set formation and get AI to follow.. Nice helpful post, thanks.. #C

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

    My main gripe is the AI.. They are simply shockingly bad at times. There are many more, but don't have time to go into it.. Example... Ok, we've landed in our blackhawk about 20 meters from the waterline.. get out and dismount the ai.. Set formation. Set AI to return to formation.. Damnit...Return to formation... NO... dont go for a f*****g swim in the bl***y water and lose all your gear.. Get out and RETURN TO FORMATION.. AAAGHHHH. Repeat ad nauseum. They also have a tendency to wreck vehicles by trying to drive through trees.. Yeah nice one. Their accuracy is ridiculously good at times - though this isnt a massive issue for me. They have difficulty navigating around some objects or buildings - Big problem especially in CTI. Suggestion... Can we maybe have a toggle for our AI units so we can set them to be able to go through water or not - via radio command maybe (default - NOT ABLE)? It seems that since we can now go across water (since OFP) the AI see it as a perfectly reasonable route to be able to take - with the stupidly inevitable consequence that they lose all their gear. Aaagh... #C

    Where do think Sahrani is based off of?

    I've been to Guadeloupe and it has two towns on it that you OFP'ers may be familiar with - Le Moule (Known as Moule where we stayed mostly) and Lamentin (Just drove through it).. Coincidence? I don't think so.. One side of the island is fairly flat and dry - compared to the other side (The West side) which is semi tropical and mountainous. #C

    What after patch 1.08?

    I dunno.. Dont we already have the 'latest' patch 1.08? I would doubt they would release a newer 1.08 with an expansion. Doesnt make any sense. It looks to me (hope it is anyway) that the Queens Gambit will sit separately from the main game - It being just a few campaigns and multiplayer missions. Engine patches will hopefully be released to everyone - whether you have the expansion or not. Can anyone really expect us to pay for an expansion to fix engine issues that were present in 1.0? #C

    What stats would you want to see?

    I personally don't like stats at all - especially some sort of central database. Whenever you get stats, there are people that will do all (and anything) they can to improve their own stats.. ie Cheat. Yes there are cheaters currently, but it will encourage more. #C

    Realist, Maybe, Balanced? You Decide.

    I dont think you would be playing the game for very long if you were the 'Poland' in your example. If you're getting raped by 3 times the amount of forces, superior tanks and shedloads of fighter bombers "every time you play one particular side" - you're not going to be a happy player. You forget that this isn't JUST a military sim (some would argue that it's not at all). You have players here who play -and compete in- Capture the flag tournaments (hardly very sim-like but fun and it must be Balanced). You have players here that play CTI (Basically C&C in first person - and fecking brilliant) and I wouldnt describe it as military sim either. Yes it has some realistic tanks etc and tactics used may be 'as in the real world' but remember; Its a game, so it must be fun (and it is) and for that, balance is key! You also have the Co-Op players - Surely, if anywhere, here is the area where 'military sim' fits in best. Here, balance is not as important, as there may be historical scenarios etc. The other 99% play Evolution for some reason.. Please stop pidgeon-holing all players. This is not a military sim. It's more of a Military 'sandbox' with limitless possibilities. #C

    AI disaster + tanks

    I thought that the AI constantly using RPG's on soldiers was a bug.. It didnt happen anywhere nearly as much in OFP (if at all). It looked like AI were actually using their RPG/LAWs as sights.. I'm not so sure that it has been fixed. #C

    1.08 Troubleshooting thread.

    For those yet to install 1.08 (Who have 1.07 Beta installed..) Move (or Delete) your Beta folder from your Armed Assault directory BEFORE you install.. You'll save yourself a lot of hurt. #C

    Outros

    Hi all, Finally beginning to get better at this mission editing lark. Got a first mission in 1.1 beta stages.. However, I am trying to try some of the 'fancy' stuff - basically, Outros and intros. Cameras etc. Is there a maximum time limit for an outro? It seems that no matter what I set my "_camera camCommitPrepared" to, the Outro.sqs always ends after just over 30 seconds (I have one camera shot that switches to another after 10 secs, this then moves slowly to a 3rd and 4th camera position) I'm not trying to bore the hell out of people with a long outro, i'm just trying to get beyond 40 secs (for some music). Any ideas on time limits? It goes back to the seagul and mission end after the 30-ish second time period. Cheers #C

    Patch 1.08 - Released!

    Not good.... Installed the game over my 1.07 beta. Came up with a Securerom error when I tried to run it. Followed the instructions about editing registry and rebooted (to fix securom error). Error went away, however there were files missing and the game would not start. Tried to reapply the patch and it said that the game couldnt be found or it was corrupt. What a TERRIBLE Patcher... I am now reinstalling the game.. 505 1.05 1.08 Bit of a pain in the a$$ edit.. Save yourself a shedload of trouble and delete your BETA folder before you install 1.08!!!! #C
