Cpt. FrostBite replied to Skaven's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
M4´s will be done so many times I wouldn´t want to ask skaven to waste his good time on those. But at GMT+1 I´m still waiting the release today as it´s already 10.30 -
Version 2 - Skaven's RACS
Cpt. FrostBite replied to Skaven's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Oh man, I hope it's early in the morning This is going to be a good weekend Except for all the repair cost I have to pay to fix my car (wheelbearing and shockdampers), but has notrhing to do with ArmA except that my driving style in real-life is as rough as I drive in Arma LOL -

You either have the axis on the wrong position or you have the rotation angle set to the wrong value. I have  experience with animations that I did for models in OPF and I'm not completely sure if it's the same for ARMA, but I guess it can't be too much different. I might be able to help a bit if required. Do you still use O2? And does it still require OPF to be installed or can it also be used with ArmA? I'm kind of interested in doing some small modeling work for ArmA. As for the cocking handle: it does not move during firing. As with the M16 it is not attached  to the bolt carrier, but simply a seperate part that will move the bolt (or boltcarrier) backwards when pulled. -

Version 2 - Skaven's RACS

The HK23e was a contender for the US Army's 5.56mm squad automatic weapon. The FN Minimi (m249 SAW) eventually won the contract, but in performance and purpose both weapons are more or less the same. So the HK23e should fire just like the M249 in my opinium; medium range suppresive fire. While the M60/M240 type of machine guns are for accurate medium and long range suppressive fire Right now you coded the HK23e more like the you would have coded a light squad support weapon like a M16 LSW or the L86A1 LSW which are meant to operate at more or less the same range as the rifles in the company, but offer the advantage of a sustained fire role (although severely limited by the low magazine capacity when used with normal 30rnd mags). Please take this into consideration @Sand Flea The wood-coloured furniture was only used on early versions of the G3 with a slim round handguard as also pictured on your site. But later on this was also changed to green plastic furniture. Locally produced copies of the early G3 in the middle-east sometimes still feature the wood-coloured furniture, though. But these are all the eraly type slim handguard. The version in this pack is the G3A3, which features the triangular shaped green plastic handguard. No wood-coloured furniture was ever produced for this version @RobertHammer Awesome picture -
Version 2 - Skaven's RACS

Well, in that case I can't wait until it's released Sounds like very good news. The sounds were already quite good, but if they get even better that it will be awesome. And new recoil values will be interesting as well. Tracers is good news as I love seeing tracers going down range, ricochets bouinching of the ground. Makes it very realistic. The unforgiving fire of the M60 and the hard-hitting firepower of the G3/FAL makes it a lof of fun to play. On the long range these rifles dominate the battelfield. I love gunning down enemy forces comming over the hill with my trusted M14. Fighting off the overwhelming might in the woods with some really unforgiving CQB battles between the trees is also extremely nice. This addon made me play ArmA. I don't like the look of ACU so the original units were not really my taste. These mercs are awesome. -

20rnd mag means more mag changes and less rounds going down range over time. I don't think that's very tactical, which is most likely why the 20rnd mag isen't used anymore except by some marksmen and sometimes used by soldier who like to be able to handle their weapon inside vehicles and fore from the windows. The M16A1 looks better with the 20rnd mag, because it reminds us of all those vietnam movies. I'd love to see a vietnam mod and a good jungle-map for arma btw. The shadows in arma are so uch better it would provide a really impressive look in a foggy jongle envirmoment. he M16A1-M203 normally looks just like the M16A2-M203. The handgrip ect at least. However, the early version of the XM203 looked different and is quite cool. The NAM pack 2 for OFP had this early XM203 included in the pack. It looks a lot more like the modern HK-36 grenadelauncher. But now realy back on topic; Any more pictures to show us Skaven?? I really love these mercs. The FAL and G3 are just awesome and these weapons provide for some nice action. I just love the FAL as it is a bad-ass weapon that was used by a lot of countries and is still used a lot. I can't wait to see the next version released. One request though; I've seen AI soldiers firing both the M60 and HK23, but the M60 has tracers while the HK23 doesn't. And the M60 starts spitting lead down range a lot earlier than the HK23. I'd love to see that you change the setting for the HK23 to the same as the M60 so that the AI will lay down suppressive fire at the same range as it does with the M60. And please include traces as the ones on the M60 are so fricking cool... -

20rnd mag on the M16 seems a bit long. And the M16m203 seems wierd, but you already said it was a fictional design. But it all looks awesome mate! I see the G3 sniper. You do keep the M14 as an unscoped sniperweapon also? I love the unscoped M14, so please keep it -

I totally have to agree with that!! I love spitting lead down range with the M60 and see traces bouncing of the ground and vehicles, I love it!! -
hm, posted negative comments in the past and it still isen't completely the game I wanted, but I must admit it has improved a lot with v1.08 and with the custom addons out right now I'm beginning to enjoy the game.

Version 2 - Skaven's RACS
Cpt. FrostBite replied to Skaven's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Skaven, I haven't read all through this topic, but bloody hell please keep working on this!! Like I said before your addon made me play ArmA again. And now that I have installed v1.08 I must say it's improved enough to make it playable for me and I bloody hell love to play with the soldiers you released!! If you're tired of making addons for all the people that complain, than just make them for the many people that love them! Hell, if you start making them just for yourself, I'll PM you a every day to release them or at least send me a download link Keep up the great work!! -
dude, this addon made me play ArmA for the first time since months and that says something   I'm still not satisfied with the game itself, but this addon is of incredible quality!! (edit: hmm, dit not see thet 1.08 is out already, gonna try it out to see if the game is better now, hope so) Perhaps weapon-sounds could be improved a bit in the future, but for the rest I'm in love with this addon. And I totaly love the camouflage. Isen't that desert camouflage egyptian?

You put the finger on it. My problem also. They boosted the graphics, made it have nicer looks, but the playability was stripped from it. The game is too bugged to play right. OFP was just right, it had the perfect balance between sim and game and I had great firefights in OFP. In Arma it's just not there. Even vehicle steering and flight models are so screwed up I can't play them with my keyboards and mouse as I was used in OFP. And I tried over and over, but it just feels wrong and flying is someting I can't do at all using my mouse. And the movement and shooting inside the game is s slow that it's frustrating. I feel that the game is hlding me back. Wether this is because of bugs I don't care. It's ruining my fun. In all ArmA is biggest disappointment I had in years. The game has succesfully ruined the OFP feeling. Ãn it's current state it's unplayable for me or at least no fun to play at all. My ArmA copy is eating dust onthe shelf and will probably end up in the trashcan in a few months from now, unless the game get's a serieus overhaul in performance and the mod-communitiy kicks in to make it the game it should have been a year ago. I should have never uninstalled OFP.

INVASION 1944 now officially CLOSED
Cpt. FrostBite replied to JdB's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
damn Sad to see you go as I really enjoyed all your work!! Lots of respect from a fellow former (small-time) addon maker -
I played flashpoint almost ervery day. I played Arma for two days and have only played it once since. Operation Flashpoint had good gamaplay. It was smooth most of the times and it felt right. ArmA feels way to slow IMO. With every move I make and every shot I fire I feel like the game is slowing me down and doesn't make me do what I want to do. This is of course intended and OFP had the same, but in OFP it felt like a very good addition to make the game more realisitic while in ArmA it feels like an overdone irritating feature. I don't know. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the game just doesn't feel right. I wasn't expecting a whole new game, but even for a mod of OFP it just let's me down too much in the gameplay. I can't explain why, because I really love the new engine. The flight models suck btw. I could fly everything in OFP, but in ArmA I can't fly anything with my mouse and I would need to purchase a joystick or something which I don't want to. I'm a hardcore supporter of OFP, but until now ArmA was a waste of my money and really needs a lot of improvement before it's anywhere near the quality of OFP in terms of gameplay.

There are a hell of a lot of armored vehicles that have such thin armor that a .50 round can penetrate it. The M113 for example can be easily penetrated with a .50 round. The main advantage at the moment is that you can shoot trough a wall and still kill the guy behind it. In the urban warfare setting in Iraq this has become a big advantage. But still the most important feature of the .50 weapons are the incredible range at which you can target enemy soldiers.

The Avon Lady's OFP FAQ will be shutting down
Cpt. FrostBite replied to theavonlady's topic in GENERAL
NOOOOOooooooooooooooo Sad to see this go. I was already wondering where you had gone mom since I hadn't seen you on the forum for quite a while. Thank you for your contribution to the OFP community and your many postings on this forum. A well respected OFP fan and the mother of this community has left the building. Kind of saddens me. -
It's not about the addon. The addon is good and it's your choise what camouflage you prefer for your units. It was about your comments on the picture of the real-life seals and your the limited knowledge you have about the NWU/MARPAT/ACU camouflages. Note that the NWU will also be made in woodland and desert colours in the future, but right now it's only in blue. The blue version is not a tactical uniform and won't be used in the field. The woodland and desert are the ones that will be used in the field. But since those are not yet ready, units use ACU/MARPAT/US woodland/3clr desert. SEALs may continue using different camouflages and not just the future versions of the NWU. When operating alongside army units they might still wear ACU to avoide confusion and friendly fire (and also so the enemy can't tell who's SEAL and who's army)
-
Wrong. The SEALs are operating alongside Army units in that operation and that's why they use the ACU. Special unit's don't want to stand out when in the field, because than everybody can see who they are and they become a prime target. Air Force air controllers have also been seen using ACU when operating together with Army units. Both would probably use MARPAT when operating together with the USMC. It's not like there is a camouflage that is just for SEALs. They use what is best for the mission and which doesn't make them stand out. And why not? Because they are navy and want nothing to do with the army? Please tell me you are not actually that dumb. And the ACU in the picture is not an early version, it's just the normal ACU. Like I said it looks very different on pictures depending on a lot of things like light conditions. ACU is quite a good camouflage for Iraqi urban terrain. The grey-brown colour blends in very well with the majority of the buildings. That may also be a reason for using it. At night it sucks of course for during day-light it's not that bad. @Ironsight; forget about the NWU. It's not a tactical uniform and wont be used by troops on hostile terrain, because it's not even a real camouflage (in a way that it will help conseal you). Even the navy website says that it's not a tactical uniform. Perhaps it will be used by sailors on guard duty at ports and oil-rigs, but that's only because than they don't really need a camouflage. Also; do not confuse the NWU with the blue digital camouflage as used by Iraqi police units.
-
No it isn't. It's the new NWU US Navy uniform which is currently being tested. I was referring to the pictures of the real-life SEALs. The blue-grey digital Navy camouflage will NOT be used by SEALs in the field. It was absolutely not designed to be a tactical uniform! @Dirty Harry; uniforms fade and that causes them to look different. The new uniforms also look very different under different light conditions. Trust me that there is only one MARPAT camouflage and only one ACU camouflage. Colours of the equipment may vary slightly because some are made by different manufacturers and with different materials, but the colours should be completely the same. During the design and testing of the ACU there were multiple versions with different colours, but only one was chosen. The same is for the NWU. Two different digital versions were designed (dominant blue and dominant grey) alongside two different non-digital versions, but only one of the digital camouflages was chosen (don't know which one though)
-
don't you think that kind of the point why they are wearing that stuff? If everybody can see that they are seals than they become a prime target. The first camouflage is desert tigerstripe which was used by SEALs and Afghan forces in Afghanistan. Quite a popular camouflage and quite effective. The second is simply ACU and you could have used the textures of the standard BIS units as those are good enough for ACU. The reason for wearing is ACU is that they don't stand out among all the other units in Iraq. If they would operate alongside Marines they would probably wear MARPAT.

I like the colours! Keep it up! Â

CSLA2 mod also includes a wrecked UH-60 and it's a green one instead of the black one from BAS.

I've been on these forums for quite some time now and all that time Placebo has been one of the most prominant people on these forums. Sometimes tough and just, sometimes funny. I still have good memories of putting his picture on a target ingame and shooting it, which got me banned for fun  I loved the thread about it where people posted supporting my case  Edit; just found were it was: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....;st=818 I'll sure miss these good ol days... But after many years it's apparently time for Placebo to move on. I'm sure he made this desicion in his own best interest so it's a good thing. I wish you best of luck with your future job and hope to see you here from time to time, just to check on us. Goodbye Placebo, Best regards, Ivo Jacobs aka Cpt. FrostBite

Have you seen even the " Â " smiley? Â I've been around on these forums from before you probably even heard about OFP so don't try and blaim me for flaim-baiting. I know the rules and told people to follow those rules more times than I can remember. If you can't tell the difference between a joke and a real insult than please don't post stuff like what you did now.
