    Xam 1.4 video

I'm not French, but it seems to be problem all over the internet that the French are made fun off since they decided not to join the war in Iraq. In fact the French are heavily involved in operations in Africa and are in more combat situations than many people will ever know. They are also involved in the war in Afghanistan and have already suffered quite some casualties among their special operations units. Even though you said it's a joke I hope you will not joke about it again as the French military is one of the best military forces of Europe and certainly one that is actively involved all over the world. I have a lot of respect for the French military and it's about time that others will also (especially americans) Sorry for the off-topic, but I just felt this needed to be said.

Oh I totally forgot to mention that I'm looking forward to the french units and expecially the desert version of them. I love the french forces because of their cool-looking camouflage and uber-cool weapon. ALthough many people may disagree I think the FAMAS is a cool and very able weapon.

    Nam units

I know forum member SPC (sebastian muller) used a randomizer-script on addons of his so that he could have a random set of details on each unit. Perhaps you can use this on the helmet; using a set of textures and have them shown on units in a random fashion. That would be better than giving every machinegunner the same text on his helmet and every rifleman the same text ect ect. I'm not sure if it can be done easily, but I just thought I'd share this with you. Perhaps a good feature for the future.

    Cold War Rearmed Discussion

Dear CWR team, Thank you for the great work you are doing. The screenshots I have seen in the CP thread are simply awesome and beyond what I could have wished for. I haven't wrote anything in this thread before, but now I just want to let you know that this mod is on the very top of things I would like to play and I'm looking forward to the release and will patiently keep looking for more screenshots in the CP thread. Keep up the good work to let us relive the old-school combat of OFP in ArmA! Nothing beats the cold war. With kind regards, Frost

    HWM - HAC Huey UH-1H

You know what the best thing is? back in OFP I just DREAMED of a Huey with two door-gunners and now in ArmA this dream will finally come true that may be the most awesome thing ever. Plus that the ArmA engine is much more suited to handle an enviroment that actually looks like jungle :P

    Nam units

Looks very good Do you plan to change the normal-map so you can "model" the vlak-vest more realistically? And will you also change the mag-pouches to the correct ones? I'm not sure if that's possible, but I sure hope so. This looks very promising btw. So keep up the good work!!

    HWM - HAC Huey UH-1H

wOOT This huey looks extremely good. I was hoping someone would do a US version of this one, but you already do. I can't wait for this huey to be completed so it can be used in Vietnam missions. Keep up the good work, because you are pleasing all the huey-lovers in the community. And I am a die-hard huey-lover Nothing like the sound of the good old huey.

    Btr-t released

I'm very much suprised nobody noticed this. Well, actually I'm not. I noticed it myself just 10min ago. Sabastian has a new site, no longer on tacticalblunder (that's when I lost track of his site). He has released a very great and interesting vehicle the BTR-T. The BTR-T is a heavy russian APC based on the T55 chassis. Designed to give better protection for the infantry inside. The addon is as realistic as it can get (although balanced against BIS units) and has some very nice features like an explosion effect and DKM suspension (as seen on the black eagle addon by DKM). I suggest you get it asap at: Sebastian's site screenshots: http://www.suicidesquad.co.uk/joelemonade/news/BTR-T1M.jpg http://www.suicidesquad.co.uk/joelemonade/news/BTR-T2M.jpg *Thanks for giving me some credit in the readme, Sebastian. Allways a pleasure helping to test your addons, so thanks to you as well* .

    Rellikki's stuff

Just to correct this; the Dutch Marines don't use this camouflage. This is the jungle camouflage used by the army (mainly the air manouvre brigade) instead of the normal dutch DPM. Dutch Marines wear the US Woodland pattern.

    3rd Version-Skaven's Racs

I agree. Especialy a UH-1 in 3-colour desert camouflage as used by one oif the private military contractor companies in Afghanistan. That would be bad-ass. I hope a good UH-1 is quickly released as it is also a must for vietnam mods (and I love vietnam mods)

    Russian Federation Units V.1

Good point. As the russian military has as much camo patters as there are days in a year and soldiers make it a fashion to combina as many of those as possible in one kit and to sure that no soldier in the same platoon wears the same camouflage, the blue tape is just about the only thing that can ID a russian soldier in combat In that light this addon is highly unrealistic when you want to portray units un chechnia Modern russian army units however have finaly began to standarize their camouflage equipment. I'd love to see some of the more interesting patterns though for special units in an urban conflict zone. Like the Sneg M and 'reed' type camouflages. For example units with blue sneg m trousers and green reed jackets or the other way around. Perhaps something for a separate pack, but obviously not for this game right now. This would need a a new map with a custom destroyed city. The ArmA engine should be able to handle this, so I would be very interesting in a real stalingrad-type island (sorry for the off-topic) Great addon btw. Last weekend I had the first chance of playing with it and I must say I love it! I hope BIS releases the modelling tool soon so addonmakers can change the soldier model and we can really begin the addonmaking process. Stuff like this is already extremely good and only shows is that there is a very bright future for the Arma modelling community ArmA isen't too much fun right now, but addons make it fun. Like the RACS addon and this addon do. I totaly love the game now

    MAS AH-64's look fantastic!

Excuse me? Better check your facts again. The US Marines don't use the M4, don't use the Stryker, don't use the blackhawk and don't use the ACU camouflage. Every unit EXCEPT the UH1-Z is Army, so the Cobra is a very bad choise in this game. It should have been the apache. Ditching the cobra and replacing it with the apche would increase realism.

    Fastroping Addons Thread

Fastroping is used when you want to deploy troops fast and you can't (because of obstacles) or don't want to touch down. The aircraft is able to gain speed quite quickly and fly off afterwards. When you toch down the aircraft needs to take off again and that takes more time, making it exposed to enemy fire longer. Rapelling can also be used, especially when the height you have to rapell from is too high for fastroping. For a small team it's just as fast as when using fastrope. The downside is that you are attached to the rope and on the ground you need to detach yourself first. This takes time and sometimes goes wrong (operation nimrod for example). That's why fastroping was developed, so that troops would be able to insert quickly and don't need to detach themselves from a rope. A sad proof of the downsides of rapelling is that last month during a open-day of the Royal Netherlands Army a Dutch soldier was unable to detach himselve from the rope after rapelling with 3 other men from a Navy helicopter. Because of the downwash and the lack of attention from the crewchief the helicopter flew away nose down at full speed dragging the soldier over the ground against trees, fences and buildings for 500m before discovering it's fatal mistake. The soldier sadly died later that day as a result of his injuries. In fastroping to thick rope is often dropped after all troops are deployed doring a combat 'jump'. When there is no danger of enemy fire that rope is hauled back in. Extraction can be done in two ways also; the ladder and the SPIE method. The rope ladder is done when you have enough time, but no place to touch down. It's not really fast. The SPIE method is when you attach yourself to a rope and hang from the belly of the aircraft for the rest of the ride (pictures already posted earlier in this thread). Someone also mentioned the fastrope can be used to extract people. That's not true', at least not with a smooth rope as used during fastroping. In the past there was a method of a rope with a number of knots which soldiers could stand on. That was a fast way of extracting a number of men. Today this is no longer used as far as I know. The SPIE method is much saver and just as fast and SOF use this method instead.

    Burning Sands: Africa '42

Impressive and very interesting developments here. I'll keep a close eye on this one as the WWII desert war is certainly one of the more interesting conflicts to cover. I hope you will include some of the more interesting camouflage schemes used by the britsh and other allies that included blue and grey colours painted on the tanks. If you work with correct layers during the making of the textures it shouldn't be very difficult to add a camouflage scheme to the basic colour layer to replace the overall desert-yellow layer. M3 Stuart tank with the sideplates over the tracks, external fueldrums located on topof the main body on either side of the tank and including the honey angular welded turret would be perfect. See this page for example; http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/676_1_23604.html (also includes one of the many more interesting camo-schemes I was talking about)

    Russian Marines & VDV

That would be possible with a script that allows you to show and hide hiddenselections of the soldier model. There is however no way to change the soldermodels right now and add hiddenselections, so right now it's impossible. In the future this would be a nice feature.

    3rd Version-Skaven's Racs

have you even seen the model that is used this addon? It´s a fictional design with the M203 directly attached to the triangular handguard of the M16A1. This version does not excist for as far as I know. There is only a version more or less like it and that is the xm-148 used in the vietnam war and was only shortly used as an experimental weapon before it was further developed into the M203 http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl07-e.htm

    3rd Version-Skaven's Racs

hahaha, did some coding myself, still had all the old OFP tools on my pc luckily Still knew how to do it. for the desert team I changed the officers weapon the Galil. The soldier, medic, miner ect have the G3. I added an other class of sniper called Marksman who carries the M14. The the woodland team I did the same, but instead of the G3 I took the FAL obviously. No matter how much I like the M16A1, I just love the heavy rifles G3/FAL/Galil Hope you don't mind. I also conferted the G3 wav file from Lee to ogg and it now replaced your G3 sound. And I took the M14, HK23 and m60 sounds of V2 and placed them in the V3 pbo. God I love the fact that one can create everything according to your own taste if have some limited knowledge of how things are done Soldiers indeed look better now. It's hard to see when you can't do a side by side comparison with the old version, but it looks better now. Good job!

    3rd Version-Skaven's Racs

First impression: weapons look good, but as far as I can see they all have the same bug: the shadow of the weapon shows on the muzzle-flash. Shouldn't be too difficult to fix I think. I like the M16A1. A good weapon and the sounds are great. I don't like the M16A1M203, but that's just because i'm a realism freak and not because it's low-quality The sounds I have mixed feelings about them. The FAL sound is good, the M16 sound great, but the M14, G3, M60 and HK23 sounds I think the older ones were better. What strikes me is that the M16 sounds are much louder and heavier than the M14, G3 and FAL, while the last thee are much heavier weapons. But as you were saying you would release a different soundpack as well, I'll wait and see. And otherwize I'll just crack the pbo's open and take the V2 sounds an put them in the V3 pbo Tracers are now for all weapons, even the walther. I don't really like this. Since there is currently not yet a code that allows you to fire a tracer every three or five rounds instead of every round I guess it's better to remove them completely for the rifles. And as far as I know there is no 9mm parabellum tracer round, so the walther shouldn't have tracers. For the machineguns the tracers are still awesome and I love seeing rounds ricochet off the ground and off vehicles. Definetely the best tracers I've seen so far for ArmA. Overall an awesome addon!!
