PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

Ok, seems I will be replacing my motherboard and at least 4 GB ddr of ram or 2 gb?, I just bought a new tower with 2 fans and a 680 w power supply, would 680w be over kill?. I have my eye on 2 cards, the 4870 and either the PNY Geforce GTX285 the one from BFG, but BFG has GDDR and 1 GB of ram. I heard to stay away from OSC or OC. Or should I go for the 9800 GTX or GT+? all with SLI and GPU performance. Here are some prices at Fry's: Fry's G cards

    Truly Realistic Sound

Hmm, well I 've played Bros in Arms Hells highway, and some sounds are misinterpreted , some are good I admit but like exposions and all, UBI used the same sounds in Saving Private Ryan, the M1 Garands are quite a boom in them when fired and the Carbines and Enfield are very crack boomy also, but in the game they are too thin. The MG42/3 and even the Browning MG are very loud and big sounding but not in the game. There are a lot of sounds weapon that are not right in BIA but I'm not complaining. Yeah Alex, I have to agree that VOP's sound mod is quite good, I'd use it myself also every so often. I am going to be updating CSM soon and I think someone asked to make a BI Key for it to play along with ACE. I will also hit u up upcoming sound projects also heh.

    Hardware and settings for ArmA

Are you talking about the ATI Radeon? I hear 8800's are not being sold anymore. Another person said to stay away from the 9800 series.

    Hardware and settings for ArmA

I am planning to upgrade to a new video card soon to run ArmA and ArmA2 in all their glory and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I already looked into the GTX 280 and they are way too expensive but I know, in the long run it will be worth it. But maybe some place in a lower cost level, I am looking at the EVGA 8800 GT or 9600 GT, or Galaxy or XFX GeForce 9800 GTX for $134. Then there's the PNY NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card for 139 at Best Buy but I hear it heats up really high. Here are my specs: AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core processor 2.21 GhZ, 2 gigs RAM VisionTek Radeon X1300XT/1600 Pro 1650 with PCI Express for graphics thank you all

    Truly Realistic Sound

Yeah, the AK47 has a more crack sound, M16 is more of a rounded pop cause of the smaller bullet and powder container, but still to the inexperienced its not much different. With that said I hope ArmA2 will allow us to change the sounds. I saw a few vids and they have improved some of the sound effects, probably even went out of the way to actually research them...a little, but I still hear some ArmA vanilla in there with little or no enviourment echo, same sounds you hear from Saving Private Ryan and just from war movies are in there, in the war movies they are still misinterpreted. I don't think ArmA2 has to have that tinnitus effect unless a grenade has exploded near you or on the other side of a wall, or shell via RPG or shape charge, then I would expect that, like in Project Reality or Call of Duty, Ghost Recon originals. I hope that ArmA2 has its volumes tweaked correctly, hence a little louder. Now the one thing that will help also is the dynamicness of sounds as BF2 had and GRAW has, BF has 2 sound types, one for first person and one for distant which is more muffled and more dull, Project Reality was able to stick 3 in for weapons, one for first person, one for 3rd and one for distant. I hope the same is with explosions, all this will help in immersion. So far with Americas Army 3 there is actually a sound guy who is strictly doing the sounds as accurate as possible, the dude is actually researching and listening to the sounds and recording them , the way I would've done it of course, I had suggested that back in 2007 when they started talking about releasing a 3.0 . that is all.
  8. Remember folks, they are using a much more powerful graphics card then some users out there with the more primitive cards we have, well, I do. Unless BI has replaced their old graphics engine with a newer one. I also hear some improvements to the sound effects thank God. I see they are competing with OFP2.

Right on, after reading this post I decided to finish the update, ishould have something out by the end of the week. Still no word from Satchel.
  11. I have been looking for a mod that depicts the Cechnyan war, can someone help me find one? Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks guys, yeah, I need to do more research into the conflict lately, i want to make some missions about it , it'd be nice to do an actual mod Campaign like Red Hammer, actually I tried to start one back in 2003 but never got around to researching thoroughly.

    Sound conversion v3 updated Res.

Yeah, little by little, since I have completed the Armed Assualt sound mod, i have been taking a break and just playing some good ole OFP with the FFUR 08 mod, its a blast! Needless to say I changed the sounds in FFUR but more for my own gaming pleasure that is. But I do plan to release another one for OFP, i wanted to try to make a total conversion like a stand alone like I did for ArmA, but I have no idea how, I was thinking of using Satchels Dynamic Range mod for OFP as a template, i tried to get contact with Satchel but I guess he has been absent from teh OFP community since 2002 or so.

    OFP BOF V2

R there any missions for this map yet?
  17. chammy

Turning OFP into your favourite game!

I can agree. Armed Assault reminds me of Americas Army too, partially because of both games' bugs ( ) and also because of graphics. But OFP...it reminds me the good old times. Hecka, I mean, OFP has a whole different feel and now that FFUR 08 has been released its even better, i'm picking up where I left off on COld War and Resistance, and I have yet to play Red Hammer still!! I guess with ArmA , it just seems like there's a lot of addons or things left out, there is something about ArmA that seems so incomplete about it. I think the graphics makes up for that though.

    VopSound

What do u mean monotoned? You stated that about mine also lol. Anyways, yeah, VOP in my opinion is a great sound mod (aside from the many that are out there lol), I like it myself also heh. I love the echo, its warm and not so brash and sounds like a real open area, echo samples r very hard to clean up and make clear without all the back ground noise and birds and crickets chirping. Great job.

    FFUR'85 (2008 edition)

Hmm, u know, Â i noticed "the grass" of that also but really didnt pay no mind. Â Right now, I am haiving troublt trying to i fnish a mission where at the last part I need to get on the back of the 5 ton but it won't move, I supposed I need to check to make sure all Russians are dead I guess.

    FFUR'85 (2008 edition)

Exactly , when I was playing I hear a lot of clicks and click clock type noises, not bullet cracks, albeit they are there, I checked the sound samples and they sound incomplete, but I think its that way because of the sound duration is as a loop, I don't know if the configuration for that is changed though. I changed the config entry for the bullets hitting the ground and now the ricochets sound like ricochets and not just bullets cracking every time they hit the ground. Thunderbird, you might want to look into changing that maybe, it sounds really odd because they are so loud when you shoot the ground by accident. Â The sounds that are or should be targeted are bulletricochet1 through 5, bulletricochetburst1 - 5, also singlehitground001 - 005
  23. chammy

    FFUR'85 (2008 edition)

I wonder if anyone else has noticed this but I think the bullet crack sound is mixed matched with a ricochet. WHen I am shooting I kept hearing the bullets hit a distant hill but sounded like cracks, so I shot at the ground and the sounds, instead of bullets hitting the ground they sounded like the sonic cracks instead, very odd and sound was too loud. You guys might want to look at that and address it. I'm checking it out now on my end and it looks like its been configured wrong in the config file for sound: #define BULLETSINGLE_HIT_SOUNDS soundHit2[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_1.wss",2,1};\ Â Â Â soundHit3[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_2.wss",2,1};\ Â Â Â soundHit4[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_3.wss",2,1};\ Â Â Â soundHit5[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_4.wss",2,1};\ Â Â Â soundHit6[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_5.wss",2,1};\ #define BULLETAUTO_HIT_SOUNDS soundHit2[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_1.wss",1,1};\ soundHit3[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_2.wss",2,1};\ soundHit4[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_3.wss",2,1};\ soundHit5[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_4.wss",2,1};\ soundHit6[]={"\ffur_sfx_cracks\crack_5.wss",2,1};\

    FFUR'85 (2008 edition)

I know this is just feedback but I didn't know I would be mentioned in credits for my sound pack!! If I would've known I would have been delighted to have helped out with the sound effects in the game, it would've been my pleasure, why didn't anyone buzz me on this? So far my feedback is weapon sounds, most sounds used that are from Dynamic Range are just too miss interpreted, but other than that I have been playing FFUR regularly again heh.
