Do you want to say that you may have been looking at the backside of the ArmA box reading the recommended system specs but you don't even know if you reach them or not? How much RAM? GeForce 7300 - how much VRAM? which card? Soundcard? Latest drivers? In which resolution you're trying to play ArmA? Processor - GHZ? Nobody can give you any support if you don't know the hardware you're using. ~S~ CD

Arma Repeatedly Hangs Without Error
Chris Death replied to Danny252's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, ZoneAlarm is not really the firewall for the high end gamer. I remember the time when it has become a must to have a firewall running if connected to the web and i've been using a ZoneAlarm too. With only the firewall system resources where used to 75% free. After changing to McAffe i noticed 93% of free system resources. ZoneAlarm imho is for people who want to be protected but don't want to pay money for that - the price is then paid in performance. ~S~ CD -

Do you mean those who ignore the fact that ArmA isn't guaranted to work without problems on Vista or those trying to point out that boykotting something because of using it the wrong way isn't the right way? My words Not an official that i have heard about yet Those will sure get supported by patches, hotfixes, or guidelines ArmA side (in case the problem comes from ArmA) This only indicates that your Vista is also not perfect like the one of those many many others who have problems with all kind of games and Vista. However i see your problem is that you would like to run ArmA to be able to play it without glitches so i won't blame you for it since it's a good choice and i feel sorry for you that you can't enjoy in the game. ~S~ CD

that why , normaly , u should not buy completed system, u should  desine and build ur own , customised, system. then u have chose what OS to use, if u want realy good one, u can install Win XP Media Center Edition I agree on you Key Dutch but you know there are some people out there who do not expect to have enough knowledge or time to waste to get into the knowledge to do so - so they buy a complete system or a system where there windows is already installed. That they bought a system which they do not know or do not have control about what is running when is not a problem for them but a game has to take people like them in mind so that they can lean back and have all their homework done by others. Off course if the guy who made their homework didn't work correctly they aren't interested in since they didn't even bother trying to understand what problems could appear or what not. ~S~ CD

Do like me... Uninstall the game and  > B O Y C O T T  A A !!! And following your guideline i will sell my car because it doesn't feature the hybrid engine technique - what a shame. Nah seriously - boykotting a game because the developers didn't jump onto the lemming's tour - 'everybody has to use Vista because they want to sell it now and not when there's use for it' doesn't make sense at all. You bought ArmA because you did want to play it - well You got Vista because ...... Yeah because it was included into your new rig even tho you didn't ask for it. ~S~ CD

Well, i must say i'm impressed by your last post since in most of the cases posts like that are missing after ppl blaming devs just to solve the issue themselves later. Hats off - you're a man I didn't want to flame you before btw - all i wanted to point out is that not every problem is caused by a sw/developer and not everything has to be sorted by them. Good to hear that you got the game running and like it and that you can also enjoy in ArmA now - because that's what you've paid your money for. ~S~ CD

MP Wizard Editor - Rotating Object
Chris Death replied to Razoor's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Well, to be honest i was just trying out the wizard in ArmA and found out that it's not the same way like it was in OFP. In ofp you got a mission.sqm when after previewing the new made mission with the wizard, in ArmA the file format is: mission_name.ArmAWizardMisson Now in ofp you could open the wizard made mission from the editor by loading a mission while when you click in ArmA on the mission's name and then the edit option you find yourself back again in the wizard. I tried to open such a .ArmAWizardMission file in editor to resave it as a mission.sqm but after loading it said: warning read only. Now i opened up the file in editor and it looks like that: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> template="MPTemplates\mpt01seizethearea"; noCopy=0; owner=""; island="Sara"; weather=0.500000; weatherForecast=0.500000; fog=0.000000; fogForecast=0.000000; year=1995; month=5; day=10; hour=7; minute=30; class Units { class WestUnit { group=0; name="Player2"; file="west1.unit"; }; }; class Positions { WIZVAR_Begin[]={16400.875000,53.127056,13807.424805}; WIZVAR_Enemy[]={17231.312500,0.000000,14206.035156}; WIZVAR_Reinf[]={17082.976563,0.000000,14314.277344}; WIZVAR_Heavy[]={16949.996094,0.000000,13884.285156}; WIZVAR_Reinf_1[]={18118.304688,0.000000,14475.955078}; WIZVAR_Patrol_1[]={17254.886719,0.000000,13908.966797}; WIZVAR_Point[]={17032.218750,0.000000,14048.789063}; WIZVAR_Patrol_2[]={16766.611328,0.000000,13849.986328}; }; addons[]= { "cacharacters", "CAData", "CAWeapons", "CA_Anims_Char", "CA_Anims", "CAWeapons3", "CAweapons3_aks74pso" }; class Added { }; Which means that there's not really a relation to the mission editor but to the wizard only. I can imagine that by some time there will be a way to convert those wizard made maps into mission.sqm format but at the mo i didn't find a way. Kyle may be right with what he's saying but that still doesn't mean in any way that for wizard made missions there's no support here on these forums. I'm still getting chicken skin when reading this no support statement. If you just had added the words: 'by me' to it i could have taken it without any comment. If you take a 5 minute look into it i'm sure you will notice that there's not much options to play around with and if something's not clear with this wizard for someone, a lot of people could come with useful tips if there is room for any at the wizard anyway. However - in my previous two posts i was refering to my experiences with the ofp wizard since i haven't tried out the ArmA wizard before. The ofp wizard was in my opinion VERY useful but i doubt that a lot of people knew that since they didn't bother to try it. You could with one finger-snip create a description.ext, a briefing, an overview, and everything that you needed for custom sounds in your mission - and that long before others made templates or tutorials or even a 3rd party editor like Chris' OFP editor. Also you could learn some intelligent use of the mission editor as of how BIS did it if you had a deeper look into the mission. For example: how to punish a unit which was outside a specified area - without using complicated techniques like some did (i only say: 4 square triggers around an empty area - what a waste). Though i have to agree to Kyle, that the ArmA wizard is quite useless but not the ofp one (which was my inspiration to post in here). And to finally answer the main question of the thread: No, you can't rotate them as far as i know by trying it out. ~S~ CD -
I'm not entirely sure but did there's a missing semicolon exactly where you defined the model. Sounds logical to me if the error about cfg.models comes from that. ~S~ CD

MP Wizard Editor - Rotating Object
Chris Death replied to Razoor's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I'm not entirely sure what you're talking here and i can't get rid of the feeling that you are. Why he won't get support for mission made with the editing wizzard which comes with the original game you must explain me now if you want me to understand. The wizzard creates a stinky normal mission using triggers, waypoint, units, and markers. If it's just you who won't support question about missions being made with the wizzard so may it be - i'm sure everybody could live with this fact - if you mean that noone is supporting it because of ..... then i really would like to know what is it that you would put into: ..... :edit - typo corrected ~S~ CD -

Yes you can and i don't understand ppl suggesting not to use the wizzard. In OFP i started mission editing by using the wizzard and finetuning or enhancing them afterwards in the editor. By checking out what and how the wizzard created mission has been created i even could learn a few things The wizzard is nothing bad and an easy way to create a base for a mission. Off course you can do everything aswell from scratch with only the mission editor but not to use the wizzard - i see no reason for. ~S~ CD -
hmm - depends on how you expect it to work out FULL speedmode doesn't have anything to do with the speed of the units to move from one point to another. FULL speed means that units of a group will move straight onto their next waypoint right after passing the current one without having to await their other groupmembers to get back into formation. So in summary the speedmode indicates wether you want a group to move in formation or not. ~S~ CD

May i ask you to stop writing in capital letters - at least when trying to conversate with me - i wouldn't talk more than two sentences if the person i'm talking to would be screaming all the time at me (exception could be my boss if he stood up with the wrong leg on the wrong day). You're very unfair with your last post, suggesting people not to buy ArmA because they don't buy personal support with it. It's like that in ANY game - not only ArmA. Also with posts like your last one you're walking on thin edge since you can't proove in any way that what your saying is true - it's just your personal opinion and experience and spreading out false messages like you did is not the way to go. You shouldn't wonder if you're getting a message one day that you're a non wanted person here around if you continue acting like that. If i were you i'd get some more information about your rights and about the software developers duties before going on showing your angryness because all your arguments are hanging a little bit in the air without reasonable basement. ~S~ CD

Now i'm getting curious about the ArmA version you bought. Since you said you paid for support - i didn't and so did nobody else - all i paid for was that box in the shop which contained the game. I really can't remember having read anything about that the price of this box did include any technical support guaranted if i'm having troubles running that software on my Personal Computer which is set up to my person and not another one (you get it?). You could easily clear this issue now by pointing me onto that line of the contract you've made with BIS, where it says you have paid for the right of personal support. I work as a system admin for a big european bank and i know that you won't get any support for any software package, if you haven't made a contract for especially this kind of support. If you want complain about that a pc isn't the right gaming platform compared to consoles - you may be generally right but posting about it into the wrong direction - BIS is not responsible for that issue. I say it again: ArmA is running fine on my system but not on yours - i doubt that this difference is caused by the software in first case. ~S~ CD

LOL, Anyone who knows anything about gaming knows the latest games can ALWAYS do this. You reinstall Xp because over the last 1-2 years you have installed so much crap on your PC, Â games , software, web browser rubbish, Â spyware etc etc etc. Â That you often need a full reinstall to get your PC tip top. Â read above, a guy did that all his issues went away. ARMA pushes a PC more than any other game bar Supreme Commander right now, Â if you want to play it and your PC is not in tip top condition or features the lastest hardware a reinstall may not only let you play ARMA but also improve the performace of your PC by a dramatic amount. I'm bored of seeing comment like this everytime a new game comes out from 20% of PC gamers who think their PC is a console. Â You have to look after a PC. Â And because your PC play a 2 year old game ok, it dosn't mean it will play the lastest games. This is why people upgrade hardware or read the web and learn how to optomise their PC. Ac97 sound be banned in fact all onbaord sound should be treated in reagrd to games like onbaord video. Â Something best left to laptops and work PC's but no PC gamer should ever do. A 6600 can't even run Battlefield 2 with everything high at 1024 above 60fps let alone ARMA. Â And you whine that BIH have done a bad job. Â It's not them, its your PC! ARMA works perfectly on all 3 of my home PC's, all three are well configured and looked after. Â 2 have had full reinstalls of Xp in last 6 months all have completly different hardware. May i add something? Not only the latest games do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just that the more time goes by, the more different system setups and hardware combinations do pop up and thus the chance of having issues with that game here or the other game there is increasing. I'm playing pc games since the 28x series and i do not remember any time where i could be sure that i can go into a shop and buy any game without worries it would run on my pc. I had to bring back at least 40% of all games i ever bought (and before OFP i bought about one game per month) because of them not working on my pc. Fortunately there's been a better situation from the times Win ME/2k to Win XP, where most of the games did run without troubles - or maybe i have been just on the lucky side of life during that time. I like it so, when people complain about the developer of the software has to check for that a game has to run on any hardware setup. The software basically is made in a way which should be supported by any kind of hardware if this hardware has been made aswell along some standard rules. Now hardware developer try to boost their baby on some way to make it better than the other hardware developer and all of them is trying to use different techniques for that so that they can speak about an advantage when it comes to the question: which hardware to buy from who Because of this, standard software might not get the same result when running on different hardware setups. If you want to get them all into the same boat again, you need to cut the code of the software down to use almost only basic features. The developer then has to change his engine in a non progressive way by workarounds and preventing the use of available features on that hardware, because it's not working on the other one. I could now continue writing about this for ages but i hope the point is getting over here, that the source of the evil is not the software but the wide variety of hardware. If the exactly same software runs different on various hardware setups, then you should see from an airplane where the troubles are comming from. Fortunately the software developers do like to clear those issues for their own sake and off course for the sake of their money (that's natural and nothing evil) and so they are trying to fix things on their own. The only thing they don't deserve for this extra work is getting comments like yours: ROBOT9 ~S~ CD

Does this mean you didn't even bother to try disabling VSYNC because of the tearing you are aware off? Or does it mean you tried it and it's a given fact that you are experiencing this 'tearing'? Also - 3,2ghz with 1gb of ram are not the world especially when talking about games in year 2007. Are you using the maxmem parameter in your shortcut to ArmA? What further improvements did you try out to optimize your performance in ArmA - and don't say everything because if you do so, noone could ever give you any advice since everything has already been tried. ~S~ CD

Do you believe in fairy tales?.. If the 505 is exactly the same as the DE/CZ/PL/RU-version, i don't understand the absence of a mission? I expect the same exclusive crap like with the 505-Version. Bye boecko You know, i'd be uber-happy once the day comes when people would complain about having different sp/missions with their different ArmA versions - instead of pointing with fingers onto every single issue which looks like to be a bug. But i'm really scared of that day that each version would be bugfree and would contain exactly the same stuff no matter which ArmA out of the box version you got. What would happen to the lifes of all those complainers? However, i'm sure they wouldn't die from boredom since there's always something to complain about in this world. ~S~ CD

Please help!!!PROBLEM WITH INSTALLING
Chris Death replied to tony7's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Not really sure if it's really 'that risky' to turn off the anti virus for downloading something from a known source which in case it brought you a virus onto your system could be sued downwards the distributor. If you bought something online and you'd get a virus instead of what you paid for, you could get them into troubles (at least they would have to pay your costs to resolve the issue). anti virus is not equal to anti hacker or firewall ~S~ CD -
I can only repeat what others already have said: this setcaptive true in the init field of the player and probably add a second groupmember to the player with setcaptive true aswell so that you can use the commanders view (you can't when you are the only groupmember). Now you can enjoy watching them AI's fighting. I dunno why ppl come along complaining about being scared of a god mode - it's not the problem here - he explained what are his intensions and i totally understand him since me and alot others were doing the same aswell before. It has nothing to do with cheating guys - it's for testing missions or for let's say: watching an interactive movie, where you can decide from which perspective/location/ point of view you watch it. Though i understand and accept the reason why the real god mode was being disabled since it could be misused for cheating purposes. ~S~ CD

And people who only try to insult others without even knowing anything about them not only probably haven't ever left the house and experienced real life - if you ask me. While those people who defend a game, ffs a GAME probably have had experience outside their house so that they could jump over their own shadow and see the world from perspective of others (sorry if that was one sentence too much for those who don't understand it). ~S~ CD

There might be some sense of humor inside his review but because of the permanent personal insulting to the developers i couldn't share any sympathies with that guy. It's just a 'we hate what we cannot get' review and thus not worth anything - not even a laugh or a feel of sorry because he couldn't get it to run smooth on his ArmA capable rig. my 2 cents ~S~ CD

The sprint animation is pretty long and like all animations in ArmA has to be completed first before you can do something else. Try tabbing your sprint key once and see how far your character will run. As an advancement, pushing your sprint and 'go prone' key in quick succession. In the worst case your character will run for another 3-4 m until he hits the deck. It is hard to judge in combat as it depends if you press prone at the start or end of a sprint animation cycle. Often I run way past my intended cover or end up lying in the field 2m in front of my cover. Well and what is it then that annoys some of you on this very realistic feature? In real life running with full speed and prolly between 20 to 40 kilogram weight you won't stop right there where you start thinking about it. I'd say you would even run further than in ArmA. If i didn't notice what you think is a problem then sorry but it was just realistic and didn't bother me then. ~S~ CD

Pentium D 3,4ghz 2GB RAM (dunno which one but since i bought a complete system i assume it's not top of the notch RAM) SB Audigy Win XP SP2 NVIDIA GFORCE 7950 GT KO 512mb while i had originally a 7500 LE with 512mb vram i had to replace it with the 7950 since the low end card wasn't capable of running ArmA smooooothe. ArmA runs without any glitches at 1280 x 1024 with everything on high (only shadows are disabled since i don't need them anyways), and a viewdistance of 1500m. Worst FPS i get is 38 inside a bush looking thru binocs. Usually the fps are hanging around 48/50 and note that i didn't turn off V-SYNC. I never experienced my man keep walking when releasing the key for it. I also don't have to alt-tab after a few mins like many 8800 users have to. No cryptic textures or wrong lods appearing to me anytime - it just looks and runs bloody well. ~S~ CD
