    New vbs1 sshots

VBS1 has grass, and here is, what Operation Flashpoint has to say: http://ofp.gamezone.cz/screenshots/grasOFP.jpg http://ofp.gamezone.cz/screenshots/grasOFP2.JPG note: screenshots are from www.operationflashpoint.cz taken from the planet of war mod Edit: btw - they are available to download there too

    Helicopter engine failure

For your group goes to normal way, and turns around for crew question: Just place their normal waypoints, like their basically mission should be. The last waypoint, you syncronize with a trigger (type switch). Then continue placing waypoints for your alternate case (rescuing chopper crew and what follows). Now you only need to activate this switch-trigger (how you want: e.g: not (canmove chopper) up to you) What happens? The goup leaves the chopper and the waypoints for their mission are activ. As soon as the switch trigger becomes active, the waypoint after the last of their primary mission shows up. The switch trigger forces the waypoint after the one synced to the trigger to become active. hope this helps

    Trigger?

I suppose, you mean "guarded by east/west/res" OK this question has been asked this week, and i promissed to have a quick look into how it works. I've been using it months ago (but not tested out at all). Well - here are some results from this-week-testing: If you place a trigger and set a range for that area, you want to be guarded, then place 3 squads and syncronize them (F5 drag-line) with this guarded by x trigger. Now what happens? The first of these 3 squads starts moving into the area of the trigger (probably to the edge of the trigger), while the other 2 squads take positions of the previous one. This means, squad 2 goes to where squad 1 started, squad 3 goes to where squad 2 started. Now if squad gets under attack, and the chances of beating the enemy are to weak, squad 2 would follow into the battle, and same with squad 3, if squad 2 reaches their limits. Also, if there are to many enemies, to be handled by one squad, the other squads should follow imidiately. I'm not sure at the mo, if it's exactly in this order, maybe the trigger needs to be activated before (i haven't got enough time left to test it fully, but this is what i got yet). to be continued....

    Help with triggers!

There is an option for a timeout inside the waypoints menu. Max Min Average by default it's all set to 0 choosing different settings causes a random timeout 20 - 10 - 15 this would let the unit/group wait at least 10 seconds, at maximum 20 seconds and at an average delay of 15 seconds. There are some more settings, which can be done inside a waypoints menu: e.g: combat-mode, formation, behaviour and speed. Those settings would become active, as soon as the unit/group starts heading to direction of this waypoint. The timeout first becomes active, once it has reached the waypoint. Same with condition field, or activation field. If you set a condition, the unit would walk to this waypoint, and wait there until this condition is true. If you would place some commands, or execute an external script from the activation field, it also would become active once the condition of the waypoint is true, and the unit has already reached this waypoint. Take care, that you changed to advanced editor by clicking on the right top corner in editor. hope this helps

    Waypoints

Just to make sure, do you highlight the vehicle, before placing the waypoints? You need to click once on a unit, before you can place waypoints for it. Sorry, if you already knew that.

    Detecting ejecting

One trigger would be enough to do that. condition: !(play1 in heli1) activation field: setacctime 0.3

    Anyone with a wheel mouse?

I'm using a Logitech wireless mouse with wheel - works great

    I need an empty vehicle....

You could also try, place an enemy ai soldier into an empty truck, and change his behaviour to careless. I think, from now the chopper would know, that this is an enemy truck. put this into the init-field of the soldier: this moveincargo your_truck; this setbehaviour "careless" Your_truck represents the name of your truck.

Kamai, i found the solution for ya here the required sys-specs: http://www.virtualbattlefieldsystems.com/vbs04.html and here are the features: (note - the part about smoke) http://www.virtualbattlefieldsystems.com/vbs03.html toooo bad, that this is one of your so much apreciated programs, limited to only specified people: http://www.virtualbattlefieldsystems.com/vbs06.html             Â

Real bad oversite on bis' part!

Well Kamai, this time i won't quote you, because i won't reproduce stuff, like that. The reason: you started arguing in a racism way. Not to other coloured people, but to people with lower equipment than yours. This is how all those differenes in the world start. One says: i'm better than you, i have better stuff than you, and you are nothing. You want to exclude others from having fun now. OK so why don't you call out a new law, where lower qualitiy is forbidden? Come on, get back to reality. btw - you won't hit me with those arguments, because i also am on the better side of life, but there are so many ppl outside there, who can't go for your best quality stuff. fact: you want smoke to all fact: 56k'ers don't shout for smoke to all (btw - we aren't talking about 56k'ers, we talk more about low performance users) fact: you said: they should build their own 56k club Why don't you (with your super-system) go for a smoker's club, where only smoke enabled guys are able to play? You sound like BIS made this "great" game for only one person: Sgt. Kamai Who cares about other's rights or wishes, only your's are important. Why should BIS sell this game also to lower quality people, and not only to ppl like Sgt.Kamai

Let me turn back the wheel of time for you. Long long time ago: One or more people got the great idea, to collect items and exchange them, so they could start to specify their regions where to search, abilities (who does what) etc. After a while, they got bored by always exchanging the same goods, so they decided to travel around and search for new stuff. They found some, but those people who owned this other stuff, didn't like their goods. Their wish was, to get totally different kind of goods again from other people. But those other people again expected different goods. Then one man had a great idea; he said: you have what he wants, he has what i want, i have what you want - let's create a unique value of exchanging, and let's call it: M O N E Y From this time, the people started to go for money, so that they could exchange their money for the stuff they want. .................. many Years later BIS (in the year 2001) made a great game, and after getting bored of only watching this "cooooool" game, they decided to sell it, so that they can earn money for it. One said: let's limit it to the higher class of PC's, so that we can talk about a totally realistic simulation, where even smoke would be displayed on all machines  No said 100's other programmers, if we limit this game to only the elite of PC's, we wouldn't sell enough games, to pay our bills and to create better new games. I hope, you finally got, what i mean. I for myself, would also like to have the same settings, but if you think a bit, about what's the deal here, then you should realize, that it won't be.

Real bad oversite on bis' part!

As i already suggested; if you can't get sure to have an advantage of using smoke, then you don't need to use it. Modern warfare would even recomend, not to use weapons or support, if you aren't sure of the effect on the battle it has. Sending a tank into a forrest - makes no sense Firing with sidearms onto jets - makes no sense, maybe if they are still on the ground, and the pilot is entering right now Using weapons which don't give a known advantage - makes no sense OK in this case it's not realistic (in real life noone could disable cloudlets/smoke) but we have to deal with the facts. And fact is: not everyone might see your smoke, so this isn't a 100% advantage, to use it (you got that?) Not fact is: BIS gives you a solution for that - i don't think, that BIS would limit online gaming to those who have higher performance - smoke is more a deal with graphics performance than cpu power, i guess - Just try this - fire as many smoke grenades as you can nearby you and turn around - then look how your movement slows down for some seconds (and please don't tell me, you didn't notice any performance loss), now mutiplify this with the factor of a not so well performed pc (i'm not talkin about P 166, more about still used 7xx, 9xx mhz ones). Why do you want to exclude people from playing ofp online.

How do i write to the other players ingame?

on my german keyboard it's the "-" key, on an english, us one, i guess it's the "/" key. To alter between chat-channels, press the "," key. This allows you to talk only to certain groups, sides etc. Available options are: sidechat, groupchat, vehiclechat, globalchat and direct speaking. The last one, transmits messages in kind of titletext in the middle at the bottom of the screen.

    Multiplayer cutscenes

Some reasons, why intro/outro isn't optimized for mutliplayer are (at least i suppose): Multiplayer requires at least 2 players (i mean real multiplayer, not playing mp alone). If you are playing alone, than it's only your time, you spend on playing a game. If 2 players are playing together, then it depends on: how many time have both left? The more players, the higher probability, that there are some with less time. Also, rumours goin around that there are people out there, who pay for their spent time on being online (not me, but they exist). I understand what you want, but i think there are also some other problems, with that. Imagine, if you are creating a mission with intro, mission, outro (probably alternate outro's), how big would the mission then be? How long would it take to transfer this mission to the clients? How long would it take, to load those different parts of the mission into every clients RAM? I think, the problems with intro's and outro's in mp are located somewhere there.

    Another radio question

correct me if i got you wrong again, but haven't i told you: if you click on the map on the radio, onto the radio-message you want to activate, it would work?

Real bad oversite on bis' part!

Hey Kamai: thx for ya lession - and i always thought, smoke only gets you high  Come on, i know the difference of explosives and smokies. But what helps, if you can't use an advantage of it. So my point was, if you aren't using smoke, when fighting against ppl, having smoke/cloudlets disabled, they wouldn't get any advantage of this. In the case of using smoke to mark positions or call for anything, it's an advantage again for you and the one you want to show anything, if your enemy doesn't see the smoke  Scenario: one of your mates is chased by a couple of no-smoke-seeing-guys, you set up an ambush and lead your mate by smoke to the exact position. Those blind guys still trying to chase him - and boooooom Â

    Another radio question

For some bug, only the leader can see the radio-commands on the menu-screen. Others can see it on the map-screen, and you can activate it by clicking on the message.

    Radio, only for one soldier?

errm Aculaud, he's talkin 'bout multiplayer Cheetah: i haven't tried out, disabling radio-messages, but it has to do with the setRadioMsg command. I think, you may use the init.sqs to disable it for everyone, and enable it for an individual unit later. I found an example at OFPEC. You might have to work around a lil bit with it. This example was given, to disable 0-0-2 for player 1 and to disable 0-0-1 for player 2; ? (player == Player_1) : 2 setRadioMsg "NULL" ? (player == Player_2) : 1 setRadioMsg "NULL" hope this helps a bit

How do i make a unit sentry

Real bad oversite on bis' part!

Kamai - ok, so if you don't wanna give them the allseeing advantage, then don't throw smoke. It's the only way to get sure, that they won't have this advantage. Instead of a smoke grenade, throw a real grenade onto his head, and you'll see his no cloudlets option wouldn't make anymore sense.
