  1. With DOSBox I was able to install Jane's AH-64D Longbow, but I'm having a helluva time getting a shortcut directly to it to work.

Here's what's at the bottom of the "longbow.conf" file I edited, saving it directly in the same directory as the game:

    [autoexec]
    # Lines in this section will be run at startup.
    # You can put your MOUNT lines here.
    mount y y:\ -t cdrom
    mount c f:\longbow\janes\longbow\longbow
    c:
    longbow

And here's what's in the DOSBox shortcut:

    E:\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe -conf "f:\longbow\janes\longbow\longbow.conf" f:\longbow\janes\longbow\LB.exe"

    Hopefully someone can help.

  2. I (and several of my friends) have our Arma game sounds playing through desktop speakers, whilst TS3 comes through a headset/ear-piece.

It would be great if non-radio voice communications could be ported to go through speakers along with all the other 'local' game sounds, whilst radio voice communications are sent through TS3 to the headset.

Having a surround speaker setup, it would be great to hear people talking locally behind me, for example, whilst in my ear I can hear voice comms from distant colleagues etc.

Is that a possibility? Would be a great option for realism.

Otherwise great mod. Without question, the biggest game-changing Arma add-on there is :)

    I second this!

  3. Motherboard: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe.

Problem: Whenever I completely remove power from the system, i.e. turn off the power supply (to perform maintenance, etc.) any settings I put into the BIOS (correct time and date, boot disks and priority, etc.) get lost. I have already replaced the CMOS battery, but that didn't solve the problem.

Will replacing the BIOS chip fix the problem?

  4. Well at the risk of lookin' stupid, I have to report I can't get it working.

I've installed @RQ-11_RAVEN_AB_A3 into the root Arma 3 directory, and RQ11RAVEN into the userconfig directory, but neither adding the backpack via the init, adding the backpack in the editor, nor adding the blanket gives me access to a workable Raven.

I do have CBA installed. I have noo other mods running.

  5. Xeno (or anyone who can answer this really), I'm sorry to bring this up again, but I'm looking for clarification: I'm running an Asus Sabertooth 990FX with a Phenom II x4 965, and I may upgrade the proc to one of the FX. Upgrading the CPU does not affect OEM licensing does it? When you write that the OEM OS is tied to the mobo, that means strictly motherboard, correct, not mobo and cpu combined?

  6. If you buy Windows 7 OEM, then yes, it is tied to the motherboard when you first activate it.

If you purchase regular retail Windows 7, you don't have that issue.

Keep in mind the lowest two grades of Windows 7 (Starter and Home Basic) are pretty much only found as OEM.

Thanks, Xeno. I think I see at NewEgg in the descriptions the differences.

Question: Maybe I should just get the Home Premium Upgrade?

  7. I'm ready to take the plunge and buy Win7 64-bit Pro, as I want to get max usage of 16GB of RAM I have in my rig. (I'm currently running WinXp Pro.) But after reading the 1- and 2-starred comments at NewEgg.com, I'm wondering if the stories regarding the inability to re-install Win7 are founded. Reports about how the OS is tied to the hardware, reports of MS telling customers they have to buy another license, etc. etc.:butbut:

  8. They could go back in time a bit, Heatseeker:

    COD 5: The Nam!  rofl.gif

They could focus on the special operations back then: SEAL/UDT, and MAC-V-SOG, Special Forces, SAS(?).

Oh why bother! It'll just be another clone! Nothing new but the scenery; gameplay will remain exactly the same.

  9. Great graphics and animations

okay sounds. Not loud enough, not like the first Call Of Duty (WW2)

Still has the climbing and mantling.

    Big minuses:

Only 1 fire mode for the weapons: E.g. your M4 fires only full-auto; no selector switch.

Can't deploy the bipod on the RPD (couldn't find an abandoned SAW to test out, but I'm guessing the same lame ass restriction applies there too.)

No grenade cooking; just hit a button and you throw the frag.)

Melee consists of a quick as lightning knife slash, then you're quickly rearmed with whatever weapon you had in hand prior.

    Yeah, pretty linear. whistle.gif

    Will not be buying it.

  10. But, the chances of me winning the lottery this week is more than the chances of BIS implementing anything like that.

    I hear ya!

I'll probably be an old man before I see a developer put as much thought and effort into game mechanics and features as they do the eye candy. (Enough with that already!!wink_o.gif

To be honest, I could play a game with as dated graphics as Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear, if it meant having all the juicy features an "infantry sim" should have, e.g. "bipod everywhere and anytime".

More intelligent AI, and either the direct implementation of those features we keep asking for, or the ability to mod the game so we can put the feature in.

  11. ... It ruins the buzz when you see a sniper hold his m24 like it was an M16. And please add bolt animations for bolt-action weapons(like the M24 or M40). Or at least the possibility for that.

Yes!! Among the "realism-killers" I see in most if not all games that have the M24 is firing it while kneeling or standing!  pistols.gif

If a weapon has a bipod or tripod, please go a step further and model its deployment, and allow for its use where appropriate.

Another "killer" is seeing all shoulder-fired weapons being held/aimed in the exact same manner . Example: A soldier holding/aiming M4 or M16, then arming himself with Steyr AUG assault rifle will have the non-firing hand holding the barrel of the AUG, rather than the foregrip. The same with AT weapons. "Ugh!"

  12. anybody know of any good .doc or .pdf tutorials on how to start creating a website?

I know you stated that you're looking for .doc or .pdf, but let me chime in with a couple other sources, should you decide to go that route:

    HTML Goodies

In the menu at the left is the Primers section. Start with HTML.

A more "traditional" option would be Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML

This is an incredible book. I wish all technical books were written in this format.

(Avoid like the plague: Foundation Web Design. So badly written...I wouldn't use it for toilet paper)
