  2. you don't need a "name" and your trigger statement is completely malformed. it should be <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> trg setTriggerStatements["this", "'{myUnitSkillVariable = Skill _x} forEach thislist'", ""]; but that doesn't matter anyways... first, I don't see where you "hint" anything.. second, the above code is useless because the global variable I made up "myUnitSkillVariable" will change for each unit and thus you only get the last unit's skill anyways.

    I made a small tool called Wiki Command which will take an export of the wiki (read the readme) and turn it into an xml document. It is not a viewer!! I try to explain that the program is to export the XML formatted commands to be used in something else. You can find both the Wiki Command and a relatively recent version of the XML output here Now, because the "biki" isn't fully 100% clean (as to be expected) the export needs to be cleaned up and thus you might find an error or two in the XML that needs to be manually corrected. You can take this XML and use it anyway you like which is nice... you can make your own HTML page or even use Word/Excel to format it if you want.

  6. Is A1 a player unit? If so, you have your locality all backwards. You are basically exiting the script unless it is NOT the player Furthermore, with the IsServer command, I think we can all go beyond the server "logic" workaround. edited for typo
  7. That's not always true. Put an enemy unit in safe mode and then starting behind him, begin shooting ... he will go into combat mode.

    Display-only Dialogs

    Dont get your pants wet yet... ...from what I've gathered on this thread and others, somebody has merely re-discovered the difference between "Dialog" and "Resources" of OFP and nothing new has been presented otherwise. ..at least I cannot get any Resource controls to change.

    I wouldn't say "for nothing". Someone has to at least try... However, from what we know of OFP the rules are no different. The only thing new in ArmA seems to be the createDisplay and findDisplay command which seem to have functions more or less useful to addon config files and the dialogs/resources contained within. We can't even say for sure that a "display" is something new... not from what I've been reading anyway.

    Good learning textbooks, courses..

    You will find that there is a tremendous amount of interest. Just visit a game dev forum. Problem: Not *enough* payback. You start a project.. open source or not... and you *maybe* get about 30% done before you run out of time, help, and technology. Not to mention the world zooms past you and everything you've done is now been replaced by some other new popular technology. All the while you get older, get a wife, get kids, etc.. The same forums are filled with these individuals. It's like a revolving door sometimes. I say this not as a deterent, but as a warning and wake up call. Get involved with someone working on something already, lest you waste a good portion of your life recreating what everyone else is doing (and possibly better). oh.. and if possible, start small. I'd hate to see another potential great game maker lost to exhaustion and exasperation. [EDIT] A great source of ideas can be found in the popular "AI Game Programming Wisdom" books. They cover many topics and even if most of the articles are fundamental... they help trigger your mind into thinking about stuff that is so basic you would normally *not* think about it.

    I do believe _time is a reserved variable that specifies how long (in seconds) the script has been running. [edit] Biki says _time does not work with execVM... so maybe use SQS script.

  17. IIRC, preprocessfile loads into memory and loadfile discards it when completed [EDit] I believe I am right, because back in SOW v2.0 we used it to load big init functions at mission start and I preferred that over preprocessfile because I knew it would be discarded.

    No, no need to change anything. In this situation, 'player' is a reserved variable that in MP, means something different on each machine. If Player A executes the script, then 'player' means 'join Player A'.

    Perhaps we should think from a different angle... If you told a series of people to find a vehicle to get in (assuming they didn't own any), wouldn't you have that occasional situation where multiple people try to get in a single vehicle? It sounds natural to me. So if you track ownership somehow (Unit A owns Vehicle A), it's not a problem, BUT if you don't track ownership you should maybe check distance and/or make sure there is NO other driver in the vehicle intermediately and atleast when the unit tries to get in. If someone gets in before the unit, then select another vehicle.

  23. If you want a trigger to check if everything that is in the area is alive or not, it is very easy: First create a trigger the size and shape you want. Set the "Activated By" to the units you want to check for (i.e. East, West, etc..) Think of it like a filter.   Hint 1: Group a unit or vehicle to limit it to a single group of units or specific vehicles   Hint 2: Never use "Anyone" as that can include some objects like buildings In the Condition Line put: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">{!(alive _x)} count thisList == 0 What this code above does is basically loop through every unit in "thisList" or the triggers personal array of units in the area. Each unit/object it checks if it is not alive (i.e. all the code between the { and })  and if it is, it "counts" it. At the end of the loop, it checks the total number versus the "0".

    That is an interesting tip ben! Can someone verify this works as advertised? My only question is what happens if the unit dies suddenly (from a heart-attack or something ) on his way to the vehicle? Do we have to control the variable ourselves? Will the original unit see there is a position taken and refuse to enter?
