Project ASTFOR - Astelandic Armed Forces
PTV-Jobo replied to PTV-Jobo's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well things might be a slight different "on paper" as opposed to actual physical content, however war_lord is pretty on target. Asteland is a country surrounded by ocean. It's primary focus is on home defense and taking a more defensive than offensive approach for the time being. We're located between Norway and Denmark, so any incoming attacks I'd assume would be more naval based. Anything on the ground you'll have plenty of armor and manpower as well as a fairly strong AA/AT supply. We're not really in the business of actively requiring and using 10,000 pounds of ordinance, not to mention budget restraints. I think for Asteland the Gripen fits. And we've looked at Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland's air assets to gain a bit of a rough idea. As mentioned above, for us...it felt a bit more right with our current budget to support a supply of aircraft that will be able to handle limited strikes with its primary role. Besides, So overall, I think for the time being at least, the Gripen will be fine. If anything, we could maybe consider also the F-16 (I think didn't Denmark also have some??). Right now we're working with a "On paper" vs content mentality. As there's just some things we do not have the manpower to create, so right now we pretty much go "well then, at least 'on paper', Asteland had/has a supply of such-n-such's" or whatever. If anything, it's something that'll have to be researched more and discussed in the far future. Right now the team has slowed down considerably and doesn't look like much progress will be coming down until around Spring/Summer. It's unfortunate, but that's just how life goes in general. We've also kind of lost Fluttershy for uniform development due to just being very busy with other things in his life, so we're also trying to handle the infantry side of things right now. Vehicles are definitely now very low priority for the moment until the infantry side of things gets back to the level of progress it needs to be. So yeah...we'll see about the whole air assets thing, just not any time soon,- 657 replies

That happened to me as well when Senseii asked me to test the download link and try launching it. I unchecked all my mods and forgot to check @dcg, so while the mission launched in the mission browser, once I got to the map I received that error and crashed. So make sure you are using the mod itself as well as make sure everything is where it ought to be like the userconfig and whatnot. Because it's definitely not DCG, but something wasn't launched/loaded that it needs. :)

Is it just me or are the new sounds too quiet?
PTV-Jobo replied to HeroesandvillainsOS's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Not sure, I mean with my experience--even when testing the new Dfyre Eden, I've not had any issues with sound volume at all. I am sporting a rather old Fatality card from Creative and currently using a Sennheiser headset. Windows 10 volume is maxed, but my volume on my headset is as low as it can be, and my in-game ArmA volume is around 50%. Even with that, I find myself wanting to lower the in-game volume a little more. I guess it varies from person to person, or setup to setup? -

100% guaranteed at the top of our vehicles list. GranQ back when we were still developing towards just before ArmA 3's announcement was kind enough to donate his on condition of any improvements to the model we send back for them to use in his Swedish pack. We're obviously going to tweak it a bit to suite Asteland's needs which is more closer to the 180 EST variant instead of the Swedish turret version [ref. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ce/Pansarterr%C3%A4ngbil_203_Revinge_2012-1.jpg ]. Some are looking forward to the cv90's or Iveco LMV's. Me? I'm looking forward most of all to the Pasi, personally, heh.- 657 replies

Yeah well, I don't think many may fully appreciate just how stressful making a mod can be. I never imagined just how stressful and trying it can be until I started myself. There's a LOT of up's and down's--many times you face more down's than up's--that keep wearing you down. And if you don't have enough like-minded and willing people under your wing, it's very difficult to keep working and pumping things out in way of progress. Trust me, I've been working on Project ASTFOR for going 3 years now counting 2016. Actually, 4+, as ASTFOR was originally concepted back during my ArmA 2 OA days with StalkerGB and Robert Hammer. I have more horror stories than I care to recall during my time, and I am just thankful all the stress hasn't made me bald headed yet, lol. It's one thing to slap one whole texture over a uniform and call it done and populate the community with a billion versions of the same pattern or something that modding communities tend to see with games that support modding. But to take something with a much bigger scope and form it from the ground up out of nothing with a lot of care to details is totally another. Sometimes, doing this kind of work sucks balls big time, but at the end of the day when you see things coming together and you get that spark back and see so many people dig it--it makes all the pressure and stress worth it in the end. :) I'm sure NORAF will continue when and where it can. Besides, Asteland is going to need to make sure it has big brother Norway and others by its side. The ArmAverse needs some good Viking Power behind it! ;) :P

I was born with muscular dystrophy and have lived with it for 33 years now. It does tend to affect my neck muscles. Plus I have some spinal fusion from corrective scoliosis surgery, so I have the rods and whatnot. So TrackIR would have been a nightmare for me with said issues. This on the other hand looks like it has a LOT of potential and might be a great solution for me for tracking without having something where I'll be putting stress on sensitive and slightly weakened neck muscles. Nice!

DynaSound - A sound mod by LAxemann (Release)
PTV-Jobo replied to laxemann's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Negative. Tried with and without L_ES and it's pretty much the same. Firing indoors is temporarily missing that "Ok you're firing inside an enclosed building" trait atm. -
Out of curiosity, is this the same AGM that stopped being produced like CSE as they are all joined up nowadays under the ACE Mod? If so, if people use ACE as opposed to an outdated version of AGM, will it still work?

Project ASTFOR - Astelandic Armed Forces
PTV-Jobo replied to PTV-Jobo's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
From what I remember from a few months ago, we have like the basics in-game as far as terrain. Just need plenty of time and effort to do all the trees and buildings planned and placed, which we all know can take quite a bit of time haha. Currently its mostly just mountains, lakes, and flat lifeless areas that need trees and houses to start making it look more alive. Right now things seem to be more focused on getting the infantry stuff knocked down and out and start chiseling more off the workboard so this way we can focus a lot more on the terrain itself to make sure it comes out correctly and not all repetitive. Hopefully by then I'd really, really like to visit the possibility of doing some Scandinavian style buildings/homes than just plopping down a3 style buildings down which might look a little out of place in pitching it as a Scandinavian terrain. But as with most things, guess we'll cross that bridge when we reach it. Hopefully it'll go well and we don't fall through half-way screaming and flailing our arms about wildly. :P- 657 replies

aiming realism mod Align - Sight misalignment by LAxemann and Joko
PTV-Jobo replied to laxemann's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Me and a few other friends experienced this bug when disembarking vehicles while playing DCG occasionally. Sometimes you're pointing straight up, other times straight down. I use this addon, but the others who have also experienced this bug at least once was not running it. So I can't say this is a compatibility thing with this addon. If everyone I played with was running it and experienced it and then fixed it when not running it, I'd be more inclined to agree. I don't know exactly what causes it, but at least have a tiny bit of comfort knowing you're not the only one. ArmA is just one of those games, that no matter how well made addons are and compatible and everything is setup perfectly, it still likes to occasionally crap in its own hand and rub it in your face for the fun of it. -

PTV-Jobo replied to PTV-Jobo's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well with the new (positive) changes going on internally with Project ASTFOR, I've been wanting to play our cards a bit closer to our chest for a few reasons. However with some of the progress, especially that of the uniform, we decided it was time for a little bit of some sexy eye candy for you guys to see we are not only far from dead, but things have changed.....a lot. So yeah, without further adieu, below is a sneak peak of the uniform currently as well as both woodland and desert patterns!:- 657 replies

Dagger Scopes for Arma 3
PTV-Jobo replied to quickdagger's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Haha, yeah pretty soon hopefully. Got bit of a new team going, so lots of new things in the works and scrapping some old stuff because of it (much to dismay of some of the team). Ah well you know how it goes, you're always evolving to get the best you can. Speaking of which, if we get the whole pip framework working finally, if you want, I'll give you a shout incase if you want to integrate it in the future as an optional thing or something. Had a bit of in-game co-op today with your addon, and found myself spending like 20 minutes looking at all the different reticles and going, "ooooOOOoooh I like this one! Oh wait, I like this one! OH WOW I like this one!", then heard over comms "OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Just pick one and get in!" hahaha. Good work mate. :D- 145 replies

Dagger Scopes for Arma 3
PTV-Jobo replied to quickdagger's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I can't stress enough how impressed I am with this. I spent a better part of the night trying this out and was immediately hooked. Just the overall look alone impressed me. Good quality all around. If in time ACE's PIP could be supported (maybe as an optional), it would be amazing with your work. Though even over at my project, ASTFOR, we've been banging our heads as well dealing with it getting things working. Either way, this is now on my list of must have addons for A3. :)- 145 replies

Project ASTFOR - Astelandic Armed Forces
PTV-Jobo replied to PTV-Jobo's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Quite the contrary. I find the information very interesting, since this is not my background. So I'm actually learning a bit from this stuff coming through, which is actually one of the reasons why I asked for the community's input and to start a discussion. The start of it was a bit iffy due to miscommunication, but has since been cleared up and they are discussing things that Kaz, Task Soldier and myself have been discussing the past few days freely, so it's doubling up on my education as project lead. If I didn't expect these posts I wouldn't have asked the community to provide such posts, lol. ;) Anyways, to the people actually responding I appreciate the feedback and certainly taking things in. As far as areas of operation, this is a bit tricky to answer as I've decided against a lot of limitations within my mod and want to give the community freedom to make their own missions and use their creativity. For the most part, I'd say yes to a lot of engagements in forests as our campaign will eventually take place for the most part within Asteland itself. So you'll find a lot of forrest and some urban conflicts with rebels. And being a NATO member, we will most likely stick to 5.56 as a standard. :)- 657 replies

Project ASTFOR - Astelandic Armed Forces
PTV-Jobo replied to PTV-Jobo's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hey guys, we have some excellent news. As you may know we have been limping for awhile now and we have unfortunately also lost one of our members while he pursues a future in the military. So just when things were looking a bit grim for us over at Project ASTFOR suddenly almost overnight the community decided not to sit by and let the project die off and offer their talents to help us when and where they can. So I am pleased to announce the arrival of community members fluttershy, task soldier, and kazenokizu to our little insane asylum family! From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for helping us out. ASTFOR's future is looking brighter and bigger than ever before! With that aside, there is a new topic I would like to place down upon the community's table for discussion: Asteland's main rifle. As you already know, since our beginnings back in ArmA 2, we were using the Estonian railed version of the Galil rifle and have since decided up till now to keep it. Especially since it does stand out apart from all the m4's and hk 416's and bullpup's out there. Sure, it's old. It's heavy, but still kicking ass out there around the world, including in Afghanistan with the Estonian contingent operating there. And as far as believability that a Nordic country would even use such a rifle, history shows this to be exactly the case. Sweden almost adopted the Galil under the designation of FFV-890C. It almost won its place to be used by Nordic hands but unfortunately due to wanting something even more cheaper in cost and due to politics, it just lost to the FNC. So plausibility for such a rifle to be used by our fictional country is definitely there in existence in real life... However, now with so many positive changes and opportunities within our team as of late and finally having opportunities to push Asteland in the direction I've always pictured, I've been giving some thought at the back of my mind concerning our go-to rifle. Basically, should the opportunity in the future come up where I had to choose between just updating our A2 Galil textures or starting from scratch all together for something 100% uniquely Astelandic, here's some possible directions we can go, that I wish to put before you, the community, to discuss and give input: -------------------------------------------------- RK95TP: Truly a beautifully made rifle, hands down. Not only is the standard setup beautiful with its typical furniture, cheek rest mounted on a Galil style stock and curved 7.62 which all just seem to flow ever so wonderfully together, but even with a nicely made rail kit (ref. http://i.imgur.com/88THRc3.jpg) looks even more sexy as hell, to me at least. Now with that aside, the problem with such a rifle for Asteland is right away the lack of NATO standard ammo. To move Asteland over to a non-NATO round is not an option for the mod. However, seeing how while we do strive to keep some resemblance to reality with our project (one of the things our fans enjoy the way we are approaching our mod's creation), we do have some form of creative freedom since after all.....it is a fictional nation for a fictional ArmAverse. I know our team recently had a discussion or two about this, and this is a point even still I need to keep presenting in cases like this where we end up focusing too much into 100% realism and forgetting that creative license has a place in our project as well! :) So we can approach this idea in 2 ways I can see: 1) In the ArmAverse, Asteland introduces a form of RK95 that is NATO standard--either 5.56 or 7.62. Although if we go 7.62 NATO, we run the issue of does such a move then render having a 5.56 LMG completely useless, in which case then you're down to just the MG3. Perhaps not, I don't really know? 2) We retrofit, Basically take the things from something like the RK95 that'll fit in the FFV 890c Galil (even if in real life it doesn't exist without some fiddling from a gunsmith outside of the military since.....fictional country and all). Think of it as a sort of us creating a RK/FFV hybrid. Something completely custom and 100% uniquely Astelandic, albeit fictional and currently non-existent in real life. Or alternatively we keep our FFV-890c Galil with Estonian-style rail kit: ArmA: http://i.imgur.com/ngKPnWk.png Real Life: http://i.imgur.com/cwBdg7I.jpg -------------------------------------------------- That's about it in a nutshell. Actually, there was another point for the Galil, but when I originally tried to preview what I wrote, the new forum erased everything I wrote and had to retype this. So I forgot what the second possibility for the Galil was. <_< Don't get me wrong, I love the 890C/Galil. It's pretty good for being originally made for A2 and in the 890c-style paint with LJ's sounds. But, like I said with so many positive changes recently and new doors opening for me to finally build the Asteland the way I always wanted, I couldn't help but bring the rifle back under the microscope for examining. And when I saw that Finnish soldier sporting his 95 railed, it looked just so lovely, it got me thinking about our rifle choice for the future and things like a possible fictional 100% Astelandic hybrid rifle that would stand out on its own even more than what we originally started with back in A2. So there you have it. Will be interesting to see what the community thinks would be a cool direction to pull towards. But with that said, my only requirement is that we leave personal views and politics at the door when it comes to the Galil. I want people to really look at things from a much broader viewpoint in what would be fun and creatively interesting for our little fictional Nordic country, Asteland. :)- 657 replies

Project ASTFOR - Astelandic Armed Forces
PTV-Jobo replied to PTV-Jobo's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Yeah it's been discussed in the past a few times. Originally back in ArmA 2 when me and StalkerGB started the project and it was more Baltic, we were going to have the Superhind as the attack helicopter of choice. Now that we have Asteland which is more Nordic, things like this are much more tricky. Especially since none of our real-world neighbors have such vehicles in their arsenal and we would be the only nordic country to have an actual attack helicopter--be it Eurocopter or Apache. In addition, Asteland I see more cooperating with other nations that have such equipment. Kind of like the Estonians joined to the British in Helmand and when they needed air support, utilizing the British assets like their apache's. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Eurocopter Tiger patrolling Astelandic skies, but it's just justifying our spending the cash on them and being the only ones throughout the Nordic part of the world to have actual attack helicopters like a Tiger or Apache that's an issue.- 657 replies
