  1. You're quit often told to use the "search" feature which is something I tend to do more and more now.

But two things really piss me off.

    1) Threads titled "I need help"...with what for gods sake. Certainly doesn't help if you're trying to search for something and with umpteen pages to browse through I sure as hell aren't going to spend any time reading your post on the off chance you have the same problem as me.

worst ones of them all are...

"how do I do something or other"

replied later.. "NM - problem solved" .

Jeezus I was trying to resolve the same problem (otherwise I wouldn't be reading your damn thread). Since you bothered to come in and brag you solved the problem , would it be that much of an effort to at least friggin explain HOW so if others are searching , they'll get the answer to their query?

These types of posts should be slapped with a warning because they are absolutely useless.

    *sigh*

  2. I've been playing around in the editor.

What I wanted was a squad of 4 in my group with chopper transport and armour back up without having to clutter my group by including them.

I have managed to control the chopper so that it will take off from the ground , fly to where we are (anywhere on the map) , pick us up , transport us to wherever I tell it , drop us off then fly off and wait for us.

Then come and pick us up when completed.

ANyone else managed this or have I made a break through :D

  3. Let a mod do gibbing. That way you can get your jollies and I can avoid it. I saw enough body parts fly IRL long ago and don't need a reminder what that looks like.

Hopefully the ratings people notice too. If you want gore you should be over 18.

Wholeheartedly agree there. No need for dismembered body parts lying around in a video game IMO. Enough of that going on out there in the real world to make your stomach churn.

I only wanted more realistic bullet impacts on ground, water etc , not "living" targets.

  4. The bullet impact from the so called "high powered" weapons in ArmA2 leaves a lot to be desired.

IRL sometimes the targets are literally obliterated from view by the dust and debris kicked up by impacting rounds and water spouts can easily go up 10' or more.

In ArmA2 the visual effect is more akin to firing an Air Soft into the ground or water.

If BIS can't adjust these visuals , maybe a mod maker might if it's at all possible.

  5. If you want bayonets , knives , tasers , tear gas etc. mod them in for yourself and anyone else that wants them.

I've seen what knives can do to ruin game play..you either have some "uber" player running around saying .. "how about a knife fight" or some dolt stabbing you and you never hear the end of it.

    Happy without them...

  6. I saw a video once from a situation in a park somewhere in US where a guy acted threatening and had a gun (don't remember if he had a hostage). As he sat down on a bench a sniper shot the gun out of his hand. This sniper was about 200-300 meters away from target. That's what i call precision :)

That was the worst shot ever by a sniper.

He was aiming for the guys head and missed by a mile , accidentally shooting the gun out of the guys hand. :p :D

  7. For what it's worth, I was in the Infantry myself, and during marksmanship training we were told specifically to "breathe in normally, exhale 1/3 to 1/2 of the breath, hold your breath at that point, and take the shot".

CAF is basically breath in normally ,exhale normally , relax , sight and shoot. Takes about 2 - 3 seconds before breathing reflex kicks in then you've lost your shot. Rinse and repeat.

    Nothing about "holding your breath"

Of course this pertains to precision shooting (ie sniper , long range shots) and not saturation fire which these days is the norm but in it's context in ArmA2 it pertains to precision firing.

But isn't it odd that a silly little post like this has garnered so much attention?:o

BTW - I think the answer is that the true meaning is lost in translation and I'm sure the chaps at BIS have more on their plate than terminology.:p

  8. I think it's because there still seems to be a problem with the built in VON causing crashes on servers.

Know what you mean about TS. It had it's day before VOIP in game chat became available but it's kinda obsolete except for chatting now. Some say it's clearer but TBH , when built in VOIP is working I haven't noticed much difference and built in VOIP is just so much more convenient.

  9. I just found out in a small scenario I made in the editor that I can actually TALK to my squad members and sometimes they'll give vital information such as they spotted an APC parked around the corner.

Remember reading something about that but I thought it would have to be built into the modules via scripts etc by the mod developer , not the game itself.

  10. I think the biggest problem players tend to have with the AI is that the AI's "hearing" is so acute the players often tend to forget to walk and end up running everywhere , clanking , clanging and thumping down the cobblestone. May as well give them a boom box that keeps repeating over and over "I'm over here..I'm over here" ;).

Even if you go prone and crawl without remembering to put you character into "walk" you move much faster and presumably make more noise.

I think this is what leads to the misconception that the AI can see through buildings and around corners.

IRL you don't run unless you're under fire , need the exercise or the drill sergeant is having a bad day.:p so why did BIS make running the default forward movement like you find in almost every arcade FPS?
