  1. First I couldn’t find anyway of deleting my original thread “Problem using colord groups in editor†nor could I change the title to reflect the fact I solved the problem. After spending the better part of an evening trying to figure out how to select a colour group then issue a command to them I resolved the issue. According to the “manualâ€: (a) Using “Shift†and the “F†number of a member of the group you want and it selects that colour group. WORKS. (Quit a stretch for the fingers though or a two handed task.) or (b) With the “Command†cursor, hold the “Shift†and left click on any member of the team. DOESN’T WORK. Actually seems to DESELECT the colour team you wanted to select. Undocumented: Using the “Command†cursor, you can then use the “Complex Commands†(9,9 then the colour of the group you want) then issue orders to that group only. (This may seem awkward compared to the first working method and it is but, if you’re trying to format a VAC program as I am, it GREATLY simplifies the coding of the input file. Also does away with it being a 2 handed or finger stretching exercise).:p
  2. I know the moderators post when patches become available but with all combination's out there , re-installing can be a mass of confusion. Took me ages to figure this out (and it seems to be right) searching the forums and all the posts..so FYI If you have : ArmA2 - install ArmA2 then patch to 1.05,1.07 then 1.08 ArmA2 Co : install ArmA2/OA then patch to 1.05 , 1.07 , 1.54 , 1.55 ArmA2 CO/BAF install ArmA2/OA then patch to 1.05 , 1.07 1.54,install BAF expansion then 1.55 then BAF 1.01 My brain hurts..... Maybe a mod or developer could verify the process and sticky and lock something concise like this that can be updated as more patches are released. And it's only going to get more confusing as additional content is released. BTW - maybe it should stay in the "general" section as well as that's the first place people seem to come to , as well as making the title intuitive and relevant (ie Installing and Patching Order) so the search engine can easily find it.
  3. Kinda .. but it's still a bit confusing if you want a clean re-install and need to know the actual order of installing patches/additional content.

    WarFX Particles

Won't play ArmA2 without this mod.. One minor points though.. bullet water impacts seem to have a circular fan shape rather than a vertical geyser .. don't know if this has been addressed or not. Maybe enhance the bullet impacts a wee bit so that at longer ranges ... ? Really looking forward to the next release.. One thing that puzzles me though why this mod is even necessary. BI sure dropped the ball on visuals didn't they. Thank god there are mod makers like yourself to pick up where BI failed. IMO BI should be buying the rights to your mod and making it an integral part of one of their patches. Without this mod ArmA2 visuals are more like an Airsoft match than combat with high powered weapons. Keep up the excellent work.

    ARMA 2: 1.07 Patch Released!!!

Some of these are definitely bugs (AI problems etc) , but a lot of them are indicative of someone with too much time on their hands. ;) Does anyone using an on screen cross hairs really care whether or not the bolt stays open when the magazine is empty , especially when you have a little icon showing up to tell you to reload.:j: There are MUCH more important things that need to be addressed by BI instead of where the trigger finger is pointed. These would be graphical faults..NOT bugs as they don't effect game play.:)

    Version 1.06 patch to 1.07

IIRC when you install the CO , ArmA2 goes first then OAH which has updated engine. For me is was ( installing CO)... ArmA2 OAH 1.54 Patch 1.07 Patch All seems to work ... then install the latest beta patch ( to test and do away the the need for the DVD in the drive to play)
  7. For a game touting realism , why is there the ability to run forever with a full pack? Sure there's a small penalty when you stop (accuracy goes to hell for a while ) but being able to run across the entire island? Even BF2 had a penalty when your stamina was gone ..you HAD to walk or rest to rebuild it. Just seems odd to me that a realistic "simulator" such as ArmA2 where so much effort has gone into emulating weapons and assets would allow such a mundane thing as endless jogging to be in the game. Or was there a design rationale for this??

    Bit of community advice!

Take note too that the demo is not patched and BI have done a phenomenal job of debugging to improve performance so don't judge how the game plays on your computer by the demo. Use the demo to get an idea on game play though.
  9. Some little things I find frustrating... Modules where you are subordinate and orders are called out in Czechoslovakian (or whatever language it is). Haven't got a clue what is being said and the text sometimes scrolls so fast you can't read it. And yes-I do have all 3 in the English version :p Modules that don't allow team switching. When you die ..it's start all over again. When you're wounded and have no medic you end up only being able to crawl. Takes friggin forever to get anywhere. :p . Medics aren't all that reliable anyway and throw in no team switching so you can't assume the roll and heal yourself .. well..it's start all over again.:mad_o: The scripting language. Considering that ArmA2 was written in a structured language (primarily C++ IIRC) and all the structured languages I've used use: returnvalue FunctonName(variables) { code; } but not ArmA2. Sometimes you use () , sometimes you use {} , sometimes you don't use either.... Kinda like trying to learn Swahili. Spend a lot of time in the editor to circumvent some of these problems. Other than those minor little irritations..loving ArmA2 and the efforts the developers are putting in to make it even better. PS.. I don't have any technical issues (FPS , crashes etc.) with ArmA2 so don't have any complaints about performance. Others may.

What's the point of being able to run forever?

    That makes perfect sense :cool::rolleyes:

Things that bug me in ArmA2

I removed my comment as it's below my level of maturity to even respond to a statement like this. I would have deleted the post entirely but apparently you can't on this BBS.

Things that bug me in ArmA2

But...no one goes into combat or joins a force UNLESS they can speak the language or have in interpreter beside them. In the CAF , if you speak only English then there's not a hope in hell of getting into a French battalion and vice versa. Haven't found an "official" scenario yet that allows team switching. It's not a TRUE simulator (in what mans army can an infantry soldier climb into an A10 , or an A10 pilot climb into a C130?). Allowances were made for the sake of game play so why not include team switching. Most custom content does...

    Zeus AI Combat Skills

Yes I noticed that too. Without Zeus they stay put and hold fire , with Zeus they take it upon themselves to engage sometimes. Any suggestions? Sure I have the latest Zeus as well. (Author: India Kilo Last modified: 07.08.2010). Txs
  14. Have ArmA2 CO (had to but it because I lost my OA CD key :( ) but am unsure of the patching procedure. Do I simply install the entire thing then patch 1.07 and then 1.54 or is it already patched? txs

    Patching ArmA2 CO

    Thanks..will do
  16. Just wondering if BI plans to debug and release a full blown 3D editor at some point in time in a future patch or is what we've got just a teaser and all we're gonna get ??? ;)
  17. Got the SSD and Id like to put ArmA2 on it for starters. Question is..how? Simply copying the folder over shouldn't work because of the damn registry entries. Can't reinstall as I lost the key to OA so have ordered a new combined set. Still waiting for it's arrival. Never have used a "ghosting" program. Would something like that work? Any assistance appreciated...at least until the new disc's arrive..or should I simply wait and do a clean install?

Moveing ArmA2 to SSD - how??

Txs .. will give this a whirl if the disc's aren't here today.

    Project Reality - WIP Discussion

Re: the leaked PR "tapes".. for some reason or other the word "wumwuts" comes to mind.... and now..back to our regularly scheduled conversations... :p

    Actual combat????

Basically ..To change the settings you have to open your player profile in ArmA2 (OA if you have it) in the documents folder then find the level you want to play at (recruite , regular , veteran etc.) then adjust the skillFriendly skillEnemy precisionFriendly precisionEnemy to the recommended settings and try it. You can then adjust them to suite your likes. The profile will probably open in Notepad (if not , select Notepad to open it.) Watch when you save to make sure the profile isn't written back as a simple txt file but as the profile. Might not hurt to back up the original (make a copy of it somewhere) first just to be on the safe side. Hope that helps...

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

Hey fella ... as others have said..it's YOUR mod so do with it what you want. Modding is supposed to be FUN so enjoy yourself..don't make it a frustrating effort in futility trying to please everyone...you just can't. Ton's of us here appreciating your efforts and just simply enjoying the fruits of your labour. Looking forward to the next release... ;)

    Actual combat????

A couple of other pointers... Seems everyone runs everywhere (run being the default forward movement for some odd reason). Don't!! Also when you move your head to track an enemy you are shifting your entire body (like other normal FPS) and possibly exposing yourself. ArmA2 gives you a free look option allowing you to move only your head , as well as a floating zone option which allows you to adjust your aim without moving your entire body. The AI doesn't "see" you but becomes aware of your presence by some factor passed to the AI's algorithm , something like noise , percent exposed , type of cover etc. There's an entire post dedicated to this subject. Also , get your hands on Zeus AI. This vastly improves the AI's behavior and allows you to adjust their aim as well as abilities so you can have really smart AI that takes cover but can't hit the broad side of a barn! Makes firefights loads of fun.
  23. This quirky little bug is still hanging around. Noticed if I issue command they remain standing while I crouch. If I go prone then crouch then they follow my stance. Is this being looked into??
  24. I was looking at buying the BAF through Sprocket and downloading at work (where the speed is about 5x faster) to install at home . It looks like though , all you download is an installer that then DL's the content and installs it..which wont work as I don't have ArmA2 here. I contacted Sprocket but haven't heard back yet so thought I'd try checking in here..
  25. Just FYI - after I ordered and paid for it I was presented with the option to either use the Downloader/Installer or just the BAFSetup.exe program. Chose the setup so all should be copacetic. :D
