Why do people prefer Warfare over Superpowers or Civil War?
Bunkers replied to MasterChief096's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I cant really answer your question, however I certainly agree that Superpowers and Civil War are missions that deserves more players. I think crCTI is great though so I'm happy with it's popularity. -
Interesting idea, I'd like to see this tried out. The bigger the better, I'm all for it if possible. Take away base-win while you're at it so we can have some real exhausting battles. Or at least demand a certain % of towns to be controlled in order to win. I guess it's to save server workload, but civilians and cars would make the towns much more life-like. At least some parked cars along the roads/streets.

In the changelog for the 05 version it said viewdistance for pilots were doubled once airborne or above a certain minimum altitude. Wont this give the choppers an edge anyway? I agree choppers do go down rather easily but I'm more worried they'll become too dominant than I am about their current vulnerability. Choppers already quickly discover bases and therefore contribute to shorter games. Now with the increased viewdistance they'll probably pick off armored targets quite easily too.

Quoting a question from another thread: "Is it possible in crCTI to turn off the base-destruction win mode? Many a game ends redicolously early because one side finds the enemy base. At that point you might have spent a good hour working hard to earn money for a decent ai squad and equipment only for the game to end. CTI means Capture The Island right? It's not DEB Destroy Enemy Base :) I wanna fight long and devastating battles over the towns." Another question: what does the cr in crCTI stand for?

Online, confusing and not much help.
Bunkers replied to thedudesam's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Threadstarter has a point about asking ppl online. In crCTI you should get the basics by playing along and using the interface. But the mission is rather complex in it's full depth and a manual could be very useful, at least for the commander role. If you ask anybody during play you are very unlikely to get an answer. Not sure why, this was not the case in ArmA1. BTW is it possible in crCTI to turn off the base-destruction win mode? Many a game ends redicolously early because one side finds the enemy base. At that point you might have spent a good hour working hard to earn money for a decent ai squad and equipment only for the game to end. CTI means Capture The Island right? It's not DEB Destroy Enemy Base :) I wanna fight long and devastating battles over the towns. -
How about making semi-automatic the default fire mode? I very rarely use full auto on my assault rifles anyway, dunno about the rest of you. In ArmA semi was default, not full auto as in ArmA2.

I'd really appreciate it if Squeeze or some1 else made a manual for this. Alot of us are not OFP veterans who already knows the drill. Having played it alot lately I'm gettin more and more of it but still. This is a great mission/mode, I enjoy it the most and play it alot. Big thx to Squeeze and every1 behind this!

AI performs better when set to "always crouch"?
Bunkers replied to topeira's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I've noticed the same. In crCTI after enemy armor is down i send my ai infantry squad into town ahead of me in a crouched position. They usually wipe the streets with any enemy inf there, taking minimal losses. They seem superiously alert and ready. -
I agree. Tanks and heavy weapons should be very expensive. There are differenses between the servers though but the trend seems to be that every man wants a tank from start to finish. I'm a rookie on crCTI though so I should probably leave it to the veterans to get this running right. But I'd prefer it if you had to really work your *ss off with a light squad from the start to get to the point where you could buy a tank.

Any way (legal) to get the english manual if you bought the German download version?
-
Ok thx for the reply. Yes this is pretty much my experience with the mission too. A tank-race is probably a good summary. I would find it more interesting if the main emphasis was on infantry-based operations. Probably a price issue as you say. But I guess most ppl want it the way it is.
-
Just tried this mission and have a question. It seemed to me most ppl quite immediately bought tanks and from that point every player drove from town to town in their tank without any noticable tactical approach to the conquering. Is this how it's supposed to be played or did I miss out on alot of depth here? Do ppl run infantry squads too? (IMO the ArmA games are best at simulating infantry while tanks and choppers are closer to the arcade BF gameplay)

After a couple of days playing ArmA2 I dont think I'll play much else for the next 2-4 years. It's current status is awesome, and from here BIS and the community will only make it even better. 10/10

ARMA 2 DE 1.01 (final) Impressions - Post ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here
Bunkers replied to funnyguy1's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I didnt follow the discussion on this thread, I just came by to say a BIG thank you to the BIS team for ArmA2. WOW. This game really blows me away. The looks, the realism, the immersion.. everything! You guys are awesome! -
I was surprised by the level of the AI when I first tried ArmA2. It soon became clear you have to be more aware and careful this time around. But having played some time with it now I must say I like it much better this way. My general impression is that they are not too good to handle, you're only forced to think through your moves more carefully than before. Definately an improvement from ArmA1.

Regarding the english mod/replacement files; is it "legal" to use it (if you have it) or do you risk banning or other punishment for using it? I'm eager to get my ArmA2 (as any1 else), but dont wanna break the rules.
-
Just a general suggestion to mission makers: add some parked civilian cars along the streets in urban areas. I've seen this in some (few though) missions in ArmA1, and it really gives a more realistic urban atmosphere. Like in a real town there would usually be alot of parked cars along the roads. They also provide good cover.

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!
Bunkers replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Quoted for truth. There might be good reasons for developers to adjust their gunshot sounds as low as they do since most of them seem to do it. But realisticly gunshot sounds should be uncomfortably loud when ambient sound is adjusted to a realistic level. I'm excited about the replacement sounds coming up from Mark and the HiFi crew. I admire their work so far. I hope they might turn up the volume (for guns) though, I want my guns sounding loud and powerful. -
This is how the menu screen looks when I load it. I had an old copy of the game on CD/DVD from early 2007 but got this problem when I installed it on my new system (i7 940 - 6GB - GTX280 - Vista64). I bought and downloaded a new copy recently but got the same thing again.

Thx for the help guys! Updating to 1.14 (and beyond) solved it.

..or make a version not dependant on QG.

Hifi Sound FX V1.00 Released
Bunkers replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Love this soundmod   But to me the Black Hawk is way too loud. I mean it's really loud way before I can even see the chopper. Any way I can config this? Besides that, thx for a great mod. AK is fun again!
