Im playing arma 2 obviously.. Just becuase youve never seen it, means it doesnt exist?? After testing it out, it occurs quite often when playing the domination map. Not sure if its custom scripting that xeno did while making the map.. I cant possibly be the only one who has noticed this with as many people who play domination...Oh, domination... yeah, that map gets old.... thats why I don't play it.

Speaking from experience? It's like being a Submarine ET and being called a Nuke... also causes 'unpleasantness'
FC here, worked on an LHD, and after witnessing several little discussions, indeed. I'll have family making such discussions soon as well, cousin's FMF HM, lil bro just went to Parris Island.

Small detail that needs to be recognized. A sailor uses Navy ranks rather than Marine ranks, therefore the corpsman should be reflected respectedly.
Keep in mind, to declare one real life Corpsman to be a Marine, or a Marine to work for the Navy (which they infact do :p) is considered an insult and may result in.... unpleasantness.

Nothing is really ever "missed out". I've seen modders add everything from mechs to aliens to Swedish lesbian prostitues. We can't expect eveything to be in the core game.....;)
Even a proper single player campaign?

One thing ive noticed is the changes in crew members who disembark from damaged tanks. Ive seen a few instances where a tank has taken enough damage to disable, while not completly destroying it. Before exiting the damaged tank, the AI pops smoke grenades to conceal their position. They then exit the tank and run a few meters away effectivly concealed by smoke. That might not sound like much, but i remember arma 1, where a lot of times when the crew exited the tank, they just layed prone next to it.. waiting to be killed.
What game are you playing? I have never seen this on SP or MP. The only smoke I see is when we thoroughly destroy armor after several AT rockets.
-
After playing your mission, I love it! Just only problems were mentioned prior, and one more issue with the choppers: they sometimes travel too low and crash into trees, perhaps its not your fault there.
-
Just dled, will play it abit later. However from seeing the briefing screen, you gave the AT troopers M136's with SMAW rounds... Therefore AT troopers = ineffective unless there's a box around in the beginning.
-
He will shoot him from there. You just have to know how to use the commands better. Don't tell him to attack tell him to target and then when he says ready to fire... tell him to fire.Believe me doesn't always work.
Even if I tell him to:
1. Hold Fire
2. Target Static Defense
3. Fire
Sometime's AI will still do something outrageous and not fire, or as mentioned, play rambo.
-
I've seen it pop up every so often, but do not know how to bring up this option/order.
Has anyone actually seen AI use this properly? And can you implement this into user made maps, for instance, have 10 mgs suppress into a smoke filled area?
-
My AI squadmates tend to spot enemy on the other side of hills. Must be geniuses to anticipate enemy positions without LOS.
-
FOB Manhattan, SF21 tries to land on another helo for some reason, guess what happens.
I disable an enemy tank, my squadmembers watch me enter enemy tank, squad members EXECUTE me for entering tank with volley of AT missiles. Oh no! "They" got one!
And yes, you can take on an MG frontally in this game as the AI view is "odd."
I'll post some more when I remember them.

Easily ArmA2 but ... OFP1 felt much more ... together. It also kind of felt believable. ArmA2 is good but feels too clinical. The models and everything look too precise and "clean", not enough details or individuality. If you look at a real marine and an ArmA2 marine ... it's just too "no frills" for me, there's no personality in it. OFP1 had that. Also, I really want it to move on as a game, OFP was great but it IS dated now. But yeah, ArmA2 obviously, that's like saying what's better, but only because of the time and technology in between.
Amen.

I was wondering about this as well. Of all the detail that was right about the LHD, they could at least make the well deck accessable to the LAVs/AAVs inside.
-
IMO, ARMA2 is supremely more superior and stable than ARMA1 and I applaud them for that. Again, that is just my point of view and my experiences with it.I was so pissed and dissapointed with ARMA1 that I got temporarily banned from the forum because I was venting so much of my anger. The game was more or less unplayable for me as I never go to do more than a couple missions because of so many crashes and was only able to do minor stuff in the editor before a crash and forget about multiplayer.
From the way I see it, I notice by leaps and bounds the improvements they have made since then.
True, it is a vast improvement. I just hope they get it right next time.
-
I'm sorry but I have to disagree, their multiplayer sector is the weakest part of ARMA2 right now, they have a lot of work to do on that end.For single player that are limitless possibilities such as:
1. Campaign, it's never the same experience twice
2. Single player missions, again just like OFP and ARMA1 the experience is never the same
3. The Armory, I've found myself eating up time just using one vehicle at a time in the armory and doing all the challenges that come up
4. The Editor, this is the feature I've used the most and you could go forever and not get bored of this. You can make wars, simulate scenarios, create your own missions, whatever you want to do in the ARMA2 world
Trust me, in the state that multiplayer is at now you aren't missing much. The major FPS drop, the lag and stutter on even the servers I have the best connection to, and the horrible layout of multiplayer in general.
I understand the situation you are coming from, but it is unrealistic for BIS to spend an extra 6 month to a year to perfect their system when their publisher is making them release and they need to make money on a relatively finished product. Every PC game...especially simulators like ARMA2, go through many patches after release, the patches sometimes even come out before release.
If you've played PC games for a while you should know what you signed up for when it comes to patching and you can't except for BIS to cater to the 0.1% when they have a business to run. Again, I don't understand the complaint or what you want BIS to do about it, it's a natural phenomena of the PC gaming industry when it comes to patching.
How long have they been making this game again? I thought they were working on Arma 2 the same time they were making Arma 1? It was one of the reponses on why Arma 1 had so many bugs.
-
For sgtskywalker, this is how I fixed it:
Do not revert the mission, because its not "really" the beginning of the mission, instead revert One Week Later, which I believe is considered the beginning of the mission.
-
There really isn't much BIS can do about this guys. Game's already released, they're already patching it. They can't give you an internet connection or a boosted speed. While I understand the frustration, it's kind of odd to see this being posted now when it would have had more of a purpose before the release of the game.True, but one would think they would have learned after Arma.
-
Um, i apreciate what your saying and everything, but i am lost as to what your trying to say in the post?Sup richie, love your work btw, you're one of the only reasons I gave Arma 2 a chance.
What I'm trying to say, the majority of those without multiplayer capability will be forced simply to "enjoy" the campaign.
What happens when they "enjoy" that campaign in its default delivery without the ability to patch it, they will simply remove the game from their inventory. Of course, this is a win/win for BIS, with the customer still losing.

Got a CTD after my gunner decided to shoot the Hind. Tried to load the saved game and got a "can't load saved file" type of error. Had to restart for the 2nd time. 3rd/4th times shaftoe lay dead like someone else said.
-
I'm sure its quite the minority of the playerbase nowadays, but think about it, not everybody in the world has broadband. Of course, not everyone is in a third world country, nor is broadband always easily accessable all across the globe.
Take for instance, MY situation several years ago when complaining on the old forums and was labelled a troll for my whining:
I was a US Navy sailor serving on a ship, and believe it or not, we have VERY limited, RESTRICTED internet access. If you think a ship on the high seas can get internet the way hollywood portrays, you try it someday. And NO, porn is not authorized internet material.
Console playing is the norm, with personal laptops for a good amount of crew. Lan parties happen every now and then (mostly playing CS or some sort of RTS), usually organized in the galley or workspaces, with the WoW (and then EQ) players suffering from withdrawl.
Patching usually sucks, and some of the games that requires you to register online before even playing singleplayer were frustrating ass hell. Guess what the hell sailors/marines do the moment they pull in port, and its NOT play videogames(the only exception being the previously mentioned MMORPG players that "need" that fix).
What happens to a game like Arma 2 arrives in such an environment? Well let me tell you what I saw/did with Arma 1.
Personally, I complained with what little reliable internet I had, got labelled a troll, tried to deal with the game the way it was until we got back to port.
While were still underway however, I noticed the previously excited marines that bought the game simply stop playing the game and throwing them overboard(at the scheduled times of course). When I asked them what they felt about the game, it was a mixed bag, some of them even laughing it off, but the majority of them saying, to put it simply, it was "insulting."
Do other customers in similar situations without multiplayer capability do the same? I wouldn't know.
Did history repeat itself again with Arma 2? I wouldn't know, I'm not in the military anymore, but will train again to go IA.
Now I'm sure this is the part where I get called a liar, or even discredit this scenario. But take it from my perspective (and potentially several thousand), on the high seas, in a steel box, with a game that "is not broken."
Former Fire Controlman 3rd Class serving on USS ESSEX LHD-2, 7th Fleet/31st MEU.

Imho if there is a campaign or missions they should be very close to 100% done. Some people seem to be blind and excuse the errors, bugs and lack of proper betatesting. What if they buy a house or a car - with defects? Will they stay calm and use some tools to get it better (on their own) or will they made a complaint about the defects?
Arma2 campaign could be a lot better and I hope BIS will care about it. Where is the soul - when people have to build their own missions before they could enjoy the game?
As I asked in a previous post, is this statement true?
"An Uwe Bolle movie is AWESOME because all it needs are some patching and I can fix it myself for free!"
-
1. I have played all of the OFP series/Arma series. I love the OFP, hate the Arma.
2. I was under the impression that Arma 2 was in development when Arma was, therefore using an excuse similar to: "We're concentrating on Arma 2, thats why Arma is full of bugs and is incomplete."
3. How is Arma 3 looking?
4. I was also under the impression that betatesting can get you upto an $80000 annual salary: http://ezinearticles.com/?Beta-Testing-Games---How-to-Apply-For-a-Beta-Game-Tester-Job&id=1854545
5. How are those germans liking the betatesting?
6. Is the following statement correct?
"An Uwe Bolle movie is AWESOME because all it needs are some patching and I can fix it myself for free!"
7. Let me guess, nothing I said makes ANY sense.

I can't type their name
oh well, you all know what im talking about.

haha BK go play CSS then buddy, it's alright he's just a kid.Oh, absolutely. Â At least VAC tries to do something. Â And yes, I'm just a kid. Â Who happens to have been enlisted in the military for six long years and almost joined the naval intel scene. Â Don't insult me.
FYI, I'm being anal as hell on this subject because of my utter hatred of military contractors. Â You should get what you pay for. Â
Have you ever held $10000 worth of equipment? Â Would you believe that equipment would be a simple rubber gasket 2in in diameter with a metal ring? Â Would you pay $200 for 10 oz of dishwasher fluid? Â I wouldn't but the higher ups know better than me.
And concerning a previous post: NO they did not fail in getting MONEY.
They DID fail in satiating a community. Â How much of the community will remain once the damage is done? Â How much of the community will remain loyal/faithful for ArmA2? Â Will it be worth the money? Â And to Chops: Â you are not alone buddy, the 21 pages of ArmA is just ... disappointing thread, is testament to that.
Again, forgive this drunken sailor.
The Corpsman is a Sailor, not a Marine
in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Posted
To clear this all up, and to show some facts, here is a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpsman
And one on the USMC specifying this particular subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps#United_States_Navy
"Marines do not recruit or train noncombatants such as chaplains or medical/dental personnel; naval personnel fill these roles."
Go, be educated, and know that all Corpsman are NOT Marines, and are in fact, Sailors.
