  1. And although I buy the DLCs to support BIS, everything in both DLCs so far have been available in community addons, and frankly it seems like they spent more time on their stuff than BIS.

If this were true, then community addon makers should be getting paid more than BIS devs.

    The money says different.

  2. I know, i was kidding. :p

Point of 'knives have no more place in warfare' still stands though, except for the odd exception that proves the rule. Unless you have some knives that actually do what i described.

Again, tell that to men that fought in Fallujah.

  3. modern warfare is political nowadasy...losse shave to be kept low...so there is no more use of risky manouvers...if you are dry you stay where you anre or retreat until you have support.

no bajonet charges or Knife fights...the africans have the bigger knifes anyway.

Why won't this forum let me link??

The book is "House to house, an epic memoir of war"

Anyway, my point is this, if what you say was true, then the men that were awarded those medals are liars, and the marines i was working with are amateurs.

  4. As much as I hate the reporting of such a bug and how retarded it is, I think its an opportunity to recreate the first gulf war night vision footage of Baghdad AA just firing like lunatics as the bombs blew up around them.

Lets make a contest on who can best mimic the CNN footage lols.

  5. Am I doing this wrong?

After meeting up with the contact @ castle ruins I'm supposed to go to the lighthouse right? Or am i missing something?

I try to go there directly, using a helo from the airbase or otherwise, and I can't climb the ladder (apparently, you never could).

  6. I'm sorry but I have to point out some things.

    FLIR can see through trees???

Second, some uniforms have been made to defeat thermal sights, although very rarely used. In fact, ghillie suits have been known to have some heat disipating properties. Here's an example of the camoflauge:

    npGADIO521Q

Smoke trails??? What smoke trails??? Smoke trails don't last very long, like a second or two!!!

Well, I hope I've helped in this discussion somehow.

  7. So... we should start paying modders, then? :raisebrow:

Actually, come to think of it, due to the current status of ArmA II, I'm starting to feel more like supporting the modders than the devs...

I agree, if modders make a better product than BIS, should they be given a paycheck?

If one makes a better campaign or singleplayer mission than the "epic storyline award winning flawless campaign", can one sell that content instead of giving it away for free since apparently the only thing that everyone bought ArmA 2 was for the editing/multiplayer?

Its only a matter of time before some lawsuit of somesort regarding this comes up. Let me guess though, I'm talking nonsense.

  8. Never happen to me this bug. Maybe it is something with the first aid module :(

Indeed that seems to be the problem somehow. I've recreated the bug several times in your mission with very odd results involving first aid as well.

Also, I just realized that you have the ability to use support, but I do not understand how to use it. It just seems to just list them, but unable to use them.

  9. Not a bad mission.

A strange bug occurred however, I killed almost everything except for one tank on the airfield.

I am not sure if its your mission or arma 2 in general, but the tank saw me, fired, and I didn't die. I then merrily taunted the tank with salutes and sitting down until about 2 min of continuous MG fire I got an odd error.

Had I gotten fraps this would be all over youtube right now lol.

  10. As a matter of fact and unlike popular belief, the AI is affected by grass in Arma 2. There is approximation for clutter surrounding every unit affecting how well the AI can see it.

As always, there is a room for improvements in fidelity, so feel free to complain (but probably with better words, can you?)

That "lame" layer as present in Arma 1 was not very compatible with new rendering system and we are trying to come up with a better and more accurate solution but that of course is only visual effect important for human players, AI is unfair and doesn't use image recognition from the real rendering of game world :p

I'm curious on how this would effect a multiplayer game, with some players playing with grass and some without.

  11. they do, but the load isnt shared simultaneously on a single server. Neither is there pvp combat with 1000's of player's calculations going on at once. Arma has too many ballistic and physic calculations for any server to support them on such a scale.

Closest MMORPG to date to achieve that is EvE online, biggest battle I believe was about 1000 players simutaneously in battle in the same constellation (server node). IMHO, EvE online's server structure is the only way possible to have such epic PvP.

  12. The marines are a department of the navy in name only. The high command of the navy has no authority over the marines, making it a desuire(pardon the french spelling) command structure only. Also, a corpsmen is not a non combatant in the marines. They carry guns, shoot people, and all that happy stuff. Well, at least some do. Your point may be more valid if we were talking about more advanced medical personnel, such as a field surgeons. Then again, the lines between medical personnel and soldiers is ever more thin. This is the first age where every soldier has the capacity to treat someone using their cls techniques. And as a final note, the marines do have their own corpsmen. If you were to bring up the records of a corpsmen in Afghanistan right now you would see he enlisted as a marine, has a marine rank, and falls under the complete jurisdiction of the marines.

    Really? Like this?

    http://www.military.com/news/article/marine-corps-news/navy-corpsman-shines-among-marines.html?col=1186032325324

"It was no different for two Navy corpsmen with 3rd Medical Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, who were awarded medals Monday for their actions while deployed with Marines in Afghanistan."

    http://www.military.com/news/article/marine-corps-news/actions-earn-corpsman-combat-promotion.html?col=1186032320397

"A Sailor from 2nd Medical Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, received a combat meritorious promotion to the rank of petty officer first class, Dec. 17, for actions in Iraq from March 29 to April 28."

Hmm... "Petty Officer First Class," doesn't sound like a marine now does it?

And abit of history for you people:

    http://www.military.com/news/article/marine-corps-news/celebrating-111-years-of-saving-lives.html?col=1186032320397

Find me one Corpsman with a marine rank, and you will make history. Look it up, google. Perhaps you've been enlisted longer than me and met one from 111 yrs ago?

I know this little detail isn't game breaking at all. This is BIS with their super realistic military sim, not Battlefield 2. Surely, they can change text around and make a sound bite? "Doc," must be the hardest thing to utter apparently.
