Why in the hell anyone would want American filmmakers to make an alien invasion film about non-American pro- or antagonists? In Hollywood they think about the American viewers first, then the rest of the world second. It's just too many people there get too much money to make films, independent on their skills/talents/talentless. And it's highly unlikely to see American protagonists in other films made by other countries, am I right? It's just those films are not always distributed everywhere.

I know this probably has been told, but why should be this implemented, when in the editor you can set friendship to any faction/subfaction very simply ("setFriend" command for example)? Only thing that there only can be three sides. Or if you wish for a clan-based relationship like in STALKER series, I'm not sure wether such thing is really necessary and is the scope of the basic game.

Russia, return or someone new?
Banderas replied to stupidwhitekid75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well to get into the debate, in Afghanistan the US and its allies theoretically won, they routed the Taliban out of power within a few months, what now going on there is the same thing went on since humans live in that country; that area didn't see endured peace for hundreds of years, only that time the media wasn't around to make reports about it. I wouldn't say NATO wants to "win" but to stabilize the local government enough so they can handle the insurgents on their own. With Iran: if the US would ever start an invasion, I think it would be very much like the invasion of Iraq: they would win the conventional war within weeks, because theoretically Iran and Iraq was approximately at the same level in general, they fought an almost static war for over 8 years. And remember that in the 2003 invasion, besides the US had smaller support from allied states, the size of the force participating in the invasion was much smaller (148,000) than which they had in Desert Storm (almost 1,000,000). But guerilla-style warfare would be much more intensive in Iran, and probably would be unwinnable, only containable to a certain level, like in Iraq and Afghanistan. To stay on topic, I don't know why many of you think that Russians are friendly to the "western world", maybe it was partially true in the 1990s, but with the recent boost in the Russian economy, the reincarnated "arms-race" and the foreign politics of Putin/Medvedev, the connection between the Russians and US seem to get "cold" again. Just read some Russian forums, you'll see how much hatred is boiling in them, and it's seemingly true vice versa. -
Hey Nixo! Just dropped in to say that I really like this addon of yours, and it's glad to see you getting better and better with each new addon, keep up the esprit!

Was thinking about not real armies, but influenced by real armies. Except for Russians, BI tends to make only fictional armies (countries) for OPFOR, doubt it'll change in the future (maybe with the exception of China). Repeat your last please, it's coming in weak and barely readable :D

Just out of curiosity, is there any game that has this animated realistically? (besides I guess F1 and other latest dedicated car driving simulators) And a lot of those games' death sequences look more funny than realistic because of only ragdoll (Half Life 2), hence newer titles (see later CoD installments) use mix of scripted anims and ragdoll. I think it would need active cargo (idle) animations, and would positively need some active cargo feature, would be nice but as I heard it's really hard to implement it. What would be the meaning of such a feature? To have some tacticool animations like in R6 Vegas? There is reload animation since OFP. Although I admit it doesn't look as cool as MW2's fast-reload drill on the FAL.

I think those planes on the pic are Mirage 5s actually, the attack variant. Or the photo-recon variant (IIIR) -
What if CryEngine was used as Arma 3 future engine?
Banderas replied to jonneymendoza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Well big companies are also using "updated" version of old engines -Quake engine, Unreal engine - or how old is Havok? It has been released in 2000, and is still being used by several titles...Or let's take latest Call of Duty engine (IW engine since CoD 2 in 2005 up to MW2), which in turn is based on Idtech 3 from 1999, which is based on Idtech 2 from 1997, down to Quake engine... I understand some of you newcomers think that it's a snap and things can be changed in no time, but you really don't look behind the topic even a bit, you just scratch the surface. I'm not a graphic engine expert, but I know how long can it take to learn something (f*ing difficult) from the very basics. Low standards? Maybe, at least for eye-candies. If you can show another FPS (let's stay at this category) that can produce the things that RV is capable of without sacrificing some points, then I'll raise my hat for you. Because nice-nice and shiny and all, but let's face it, Crysis is still a level-based corridor shooter, although the corridor is wider, has some forks but you still have to get from the start point to the finish. And you can either walk along a tunnel or you can go with bicycle, car, bus, train but a tunnel is still going to be a tunnel, even if it's painted pretty. The main thing in this jibbering is not against Crysis (which I enjoyed to play with), but to tell that even Crytek couldn't pull out this beautiful visual experience without sacrificing things they promised; it had to has lower number of entities, lesser freedom and an island parcelled into several levels. To be honest, in this context Crysis was a major stepback compared to FarCry 1. -

User Add-On Guide for more Realism and Immersion (ACE2-based)
Banderas replied to the.d's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Howdy, I've got this little problem of AI unit leaders. I'm making and testing a beach landing mission; the shore has some enemy presence, amphibious APCs coming in and dropping the troops. Problem comes after it, because once they come in contact with the enemy, the AI leader will lay on the ground, ordering some elements to engage this or that...but he won't move his ass until everything is "clear", so I have half/3rd quadrant of the landing squads laying on the slopes of the beach, while some smaller ones are advancing, especially LAVs are running rampant all-around...I played with the different mod-combinations, and I've shrunken the possible responsible ones to either ACE or ASR AI skills... Or is this some bug related to latest vanilla patch (CO 1.54)? So my question if anybody ever encountered this: why does the AI leader lays down on contact and stays stationary until everything is cleared? -
What if CryEngine was used as Arma 3 future engine?
Banderas replied to jonneymendoza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
The last thing I've heard about that "Arma 3", BI planned to step down a little bit with the military simulation genre, and will try to focus on others. So my guess (based on the latest info I have), depending on the successes of DLCs, two maybe three more DLCs (counting in PMC and what is planned after it with that chechen guy) and maybe (!just maybe!) one more DVD expansion... Based on these info of mine, I don't think there will be a new "ArmA 3" in the next 5 years but it's only my guess. -
URR Islands: Kolgujev 2010 v1.1, Nogova 2010 v2, Everon 2010 v3
Banderas replied to hotzenplotz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Beautiful big forests...I could lurk around in them for hours :) The size-up of Kolgujev was a really good idea, the original one feels a little bit "shrinked" in A2. I know it's only a "music of the future", but will the other islands be made in bigger size among with the other modernizations (newer buildings, ect...)? -

Then it's possibly not because this island, it must be CAA1/OAC, it gives me some missing texture warnings since I installed OA. I asked about MadMardigan, because some time ago he started to make the original CWC islands in sized-up too, although he had put all four into one map. Thought the bigger Kolgujev might come from him. -

Banderas replied to hotzenplotz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Howdy, maybe it's just my addons but I have some "missing texture" popups with the map. Anyway great improvements you made, especially with the airfield, framerate is really good when flying over, also I feel like it has been sized up, am I right? If you make the other CWC islands in this spirit like this, then it'll be most welcome! Edit: I looked into OFPIP island, and it is made bigger than original, are you working together with MadMardigan? -
OK, so I've decided to make a new topic for it, before (because of my fault) another thread will be jacked. I found this rather new video, which introduces the new features for VBS 2 1.40 iEJDA7ACi1I Maybe the most important for people will be the new render-to-texture feature, but other exciting things might be the dynamic view distance, Earth curvation, and the possibilities in the 3D editor.

SpetS15 If you think about the stock Arma 1 campaign, then it won't be available, and unkuckily there hasn't been too much Arma 1 usermade campaigns ported so far.
-
And now imagine A2 users, bitching about a DLC for ArmA 2, for the same price which next to a new map has new units, new weapons, new vehicles, new missions and campaign, and new features....

Why are you playing BIS games?
Banderas replied to nettrucker's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
I think he refers to the fact how much current games became too much cross-bred with console games (simplified, overhinted gameplay, "button only" controlled menus, lack of detailed graphic settings, "re-breathed" health, all-for-eyes features, ect..). Nowadays you can't differentiate very much if a game is originally for PC or console. -
LAV cargo disembarking on enemy contact
Banderas posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I have this little problem with a mission I've been designing; I have AAVs and LAVs with groups of infantry in cargo, storming a beach patrolled by light enemy assets. After contact the recon sections start disembarking into the water from the LAVs, while AAVs will bring their "precious cargo" to the unloading point on the shore. Locking the vehicles doesn't help, also I tried to use assignascargo to no avail. Only solution this far if I set their behaviour to careless, but I obviously need them to fire on the enemy. -
Something like that :D Or more like Shadaloo ruled by Mr. Bison

Right, nobody can get mad because they get virtually kicked in the bottoms by NATO in the campaign :D. Saw some suggestions about a North Korea mod. Maybe if not directly NK, but a fictional East-Asian themed army (with influences/equipment drawn from NK, China and Vietnam) complemented with a modern VC-like guerilla force might be an idea for a next OPFOR faction.
