EA-6B Prowler - WiP by IrishDeviant
Banderas replied to IrishDeviant's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well I really would like to play large scale missions, I'd like to create large scale missions, but I think most people (like myself) are playing "micro-missions" because they are forced to due to their PC's performance. I hope in the near future I can afford a PC good enough to handle large scale battles, and we will have maps big enough and smooth enough to use out such assets as an ECM plane (or AWACS, J-STARS, cruise missiles, real long-ranged artillery and air defenses from ZSus to Patriots/SA-15s). Anyways, as an aircraft maniac, for me it would worth to have this bird just to fly around the maps. -

I would argue with you in this context, the mentioned BMDs (and other RHS models) are even more detailed than BI ones, the MiG-15 was far above BI standards in its time. Even in A1 had addons that looked much better than vanilla (Johnny's Marines and SF for example). But if you don't beleive me, take Mateck's M1A1 (either A1, A2, can be found in ACE 2 too) and compare it to the default BI models. For texturing, you should compare BI ones with Topas' works, I doubt you won't recognize the difference between the two. I didn't say BI made bad job on the models, but sometimes theirs are too generic (C-130 is the best example), lacking details that addonmakers would do, or just not presented completely realistically (M1A2 TUSK). If he has the initiative, talent and the inspiration to make a better A-10, then I say bring it on! But we're not the ones who has to determine him what to do. -

Whooooo stop for a little bit before he cracks under the weight of the requests :) Voted for F-35 variants, but do them as you wish. -
Arma 2 Addon request thread
Banderas replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
@vagabond not really possible to modify BI CH-47F until it's MLODs are released, until that you can only reskin them, or you have to make an MH-47G model of your own. -
British AH.1 Apaches are using stronger Rolls Royce engines if my memory serves me right, US Apaches have the dome removed because of weight reduction, so they gave up the advantages of the radar for bigger maneuverability in the higher mountains. But the Brits can afford the plus weight for the stronger power plants. But that's something I've read, I'm sure somebody from the Army Aviation will correct me in no time.
-
@NodUnit I don't care if in the future you'll only redo vehicles that are already present in Arma 2. If your models will be so beautifully detailed, then their existence is more than justified imho. Anyways, you won't necessarily have to make an A model to make a "domeless" version, in A-stan you can see D models without the radar dome (for obvious reasons).

Arma 2 Addon request thread
Banderas replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
US Navy will use the F-35C variant without the vertical take-off/landing option, and which is a bit bigger (in wing and surface control areas) than the B variant. But of course if somebody wants to reskin it to USN, then I'll won't stop him/her. I would rather request proper F-35A (USAF), F-35B (USMC/RAF) and F-35C (USN) models instead of the prototype F-35 we have in vanilla. -

Vilas Weapons Pack update
Banderas replied to xeno426's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I'm sorry, I didn't mean the vanilla FAL Para, but the VIL_FAL_Para (?) class, but the fixed stock version (VIL_FAL) still uses the VIL magazine class -
List of "Armed Assault 1" addons that work in "ArmA II" as well
Banderas replied to Dr. Horrible's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I took a fast look into the config, and it seems that not all the sounds are assigned. The plane itself inherits from the "Plane" class, I guess in A1 it had the sounds defined, and in A2 (I guess) this class might not have any sounds assigned. The config has to be re-written a bit. -

the wss is the format used by A2 too, might be problems with the defined access routes... -

Before doing anything like that, ask the original author if he permits to change his work! At least before you release it. -
Vilas Weapons Pack update
Banderas replied to xeno426's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Nice one Xeno, but some bugs are present; -FAL Para doesn't use VIL_FAL magazines -G36Es sight doesn't show scope, only back of the weapon -old sound plays for G3 For first instance, hope there won't be more Anyway thank you for this one! Edit: Suggest to inherit some weapon classes from other bases that are available in OA, like FAL and FAL Para might be inherited from vanilla FAL Edit2: when placing an ammo box containing a FAL, a message pops: "Error: creating weapon VIL_fal with scope = private" -

Nice Leathernecks Bink, are those gonna get some OA system backpacks of their own? -
@Baff1 What really set me off to say that wasn't against the new feature requested, but rather because someone playing a computer game calls today's soldiers cowards, hence I wrote offtopic over that part. Also later I told that now as I know what the original intention was for this feature, I agree with it, I just misinterpreted that "charge" thing, now what I'd call it for myself is "assault" or "active cover seeking" or "rapid repositioning" (put the correspondent technical term into the semicolons).

Now a lot of SF-maniacs will "jizz their paints", I'm staying at simply admiring your nice work Scuba :) -
That sounds sane to me too, in this context I change my opinion (sounded to me some wanted to have mindless charges against aim-cheating bots).

Porting ArmA1 addons to ArmA2
Banderas replied to bugkill's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
@Dr. Horrible Don't go near any loaded firearms in the foreseeable future, because there are ArmA 1 addons that are working without any porting, config change or without OAC/CAA1, this one is one of them, if my memory doesn't fail me. -

Porting ArmA1 addons to ArmA2

This one goes well for me even without CAA1 -
Concretely what kind of better guns do you think of? Or you want them with aimpoints, acogs, holosights and IR lasers? As Fox stated, the Takistani Army is intended to represent the idea of a generic hostile Middle-Eastern/Central-Asian force that is not much technologically advanced, based and mixed on the pre-invasion Iraqi Army and the Afghan armed formations. But they even have FAL with AN/PVS-4 and an AK-74 with a thermal sight (Goshawk). If you want them to have christmas-tree like M4s or SCARs, you go to the editor and write the necessary commands in the initialize line, or better, you write a little config that gives them the weapons you like by default.

Yeah, but that's not what I'd call a charge, more like advancing/flanking using bounding overwatch, which the AI can do in some situations (seemingly until they come under fire). What I read out from the original idea is that the poster wanted to have a behaviour where the AI would forget about everything and run towards the enemy's position. Which worked in the aforementioned case in 2004 in Basra, because of different human factors -surprise was the biggest advantage there, but as the AI in Arma 2 cannot reproduce human deficiencies. like being untrained, surprised, supressed or afraid, such charges would only lead to the mowing down of your squadmates in precise, coldly computed bursts even when facing 10 times less enemy. Maybe this example of yours can be achieved without any new feature; if you command the movers to disengage, in stand-up position and maybe to hold fire and the covering party to lay down in "danger" mode, and set them to watch at them at the enemies' direction then it might give some decent solution. I'm not crossing my fingers on it, but tomorrow I'll give it a try.

For this kind of airplanes (big transport planes, interceptor/fighter planes) we would need enormous sized maps to use them normally -meaning NOT the X-Wing style dogfighting from BF 2, but to use Radar, BVR weapons, "intelligent" stand-off weaponry, ect...What is the meaning of 12 AMRAAMs if you can use them at a max. range of 5km? Same goes for long-range AA rockets. With current possibilities there's simply no room to employ them in the game realistically - maybe only as static background elements. Strategic airlifting is also something that a bit falls out of the series' scope. Anyway a C-17 would be sweet, but to build a DLC around it? Don't think so, only if it is added to a much bigger content.
-
And what use it would have? Beside the fact there's not a single big enough airport you can turn around on with them? (except for C-17) Back on topic; I'd like to see moar ole'skool stuff back from OFP in any form; namely G3 rifle, M60A3 Patton, BMP-1, OH-58 Kiowa, AH-1 HueyCobra (with the box-cockpit), Cessna 172, Trabant :D and DC-3 from QG Maybe a coastal map in Takistan, with desert USMC units, equipped with some left-out stuff: CH-46E, CH-53E/K, HIMARS, M777, F/A-18 A/B/C/D Hornet. Karzeghistani Army anyone?
