  1. I will support BIS but that doesn't mean Coddies game will be awful. Then again I don't know what engine they will be using. If the maps aren't as big as OFP1 then I'm not interested. But we'll have to see

    what would you play ?

I'm another Coop all the way man
  3. As a combat vet I'm quite shocked as to why you wish to see that. We play war games for the sport of war. That being the tactics and strategy of warfare. Even if they did what you want you couldn't even come close to the horror of seeing somebody burned alive in real life. There are some terrors that should be left on the REAL battlefield.

    New title for FLASHPOINT2

I'm with Tak. We should just the letters OFP to come up with the new name. After all I doubt Coddies has Operation Flaming Pegasus trademarked

    BIS...perfect Game company?

Redface, I don't think it's just BIS. It seems to be a common factor of most Czech game makers. Two examples. Vietcong. It's a great game. Hardly any press. Suddenly one week the game's website goes live. Then suddenly without warning the game is released I checked the site one day then the next day it was already shipping the game. Hidden & Dangerous 2. Again a Czech developer and practically no news at all about the game. So it seems common to Czech devs. BIS is also my favorite game developers as well. They have supported OFP so much. It's rare that a company would continue to release patches as long as BIS has

    1970 vs 2010

I agree with Kin Hil. I think a US with Russia would be great. It's actually not that hard to come up with conflict with the US and Russia. Take the current situation. Putin is consolidating power and increasingly becoming more of a dictator. This has caused tension in Russia. A civil war is not too unlikely. Especially if it's triggered by outside forces. Take the Ukraine as an example of the political divide that could arise in Russia. Perhaps the Balkans heats up again. Serbs go on the attack. Half of Russian backs them, half doesn't. There you go instant conflict in Eastern Europe. I would like to see some other conflict than US vs Russia but I think from a gameplay point of view it might not happen. After all, what equipment is the US likely to come up against in a conflict? You guessed it Russian. Since you'll most likely be shooting at Russian made equipment why not go directly to the source. At least that way you get to come against the newest equipment

Poseidon II , the ultimate engine?

I think what they mean is that the game could keep track of 1,000 units at once. I don't think you'll actually see them. Basically while you attack town B, there is another attack on town A. The game will keep track of such attacks and thus better simulate a real battle front. In theroy you could travel to town A and there will be a battle going on. At least I'm hoping that's the case

    Carry the wounded!

Well this option is not something you can simply turn off. It would require some serious codding. I'm not saying I wish for people not to be allowed to evac people. I'm saying that we have to make it worth the player's while to do so. Adding points is a good way to do it. Here is my idea for a system that you can save wounded people. We'll have heal zones. These being a Chopper, medical APC, or field hospital tent. You drag or carry, or load the wounded onto a jeep then drive them to these zones. It's just a middle ground for what your trying to do. If we have to take the time to grab the wounded. Then fly 10 minutes to base, and then 10 minutes back to the battlefield. That takes too much time. We play these games for the tactical action part of the game. Again do you want to spend 6 hours of real time digging a trench so you can have a tactical advantage? No, we don't want to do that. So if we allow people to care for the wounded (a good idea) we must make it so it is both tactical and fun. If not we will have to fly all over the place, then wait for a doctor to be called or wait in line for hours because our wound isn't bad enough. that's not something I think anybody wants to do. If we have heal zones while not being completely realistic, it would provide a new tactical angle for the game.

    two operation flashpoint 2s?

On the conterary, for every successful title there is 10 duds. Yeah but that's true about almost every publisher. Even UBI which I buy a lot of games off of has some absolute failures Fact is I doubt Atari will let go of Enemy In Sights. Espeically if they publisher a lot of crap. This could be there one shot to make something good this year so you bet they will hold onto it

    two operation flashpoint 2s?

I just want to know how Enemy in Sight figures into this. Atari is publisher. Atari is a major publisher. Just get out some of the big names they publisher here http://www.atari.com/us/platform/pc?showall=1 That's just for PC. I seriously doubt Coddies is going to buy the game. As for CM making a OFP2 without BIS. I just have to point to Coddies own marketing to show why I won't buy it. They don't support games. They simply make a new game every year and that's your Patch. If you've played CM Rally you'll see exactly what I mean. We could make a patch and fix the game problems but we'll just make you pay for it. BIS has shown they support their product. This is something CM can't say. I'm sticking with BIS myself unless CM drastically changes it's tactics

    bullet penetration

There is no Genva convention in the virtual world so I am not bound by any such agreements. It's total war baby Also I don't think we will see such a detailed model of damage. Most games use a simple point system. I don't see that this will drastically change in the very near future

    Carry the wounded!

I still think we should be able to drag them or something but I'm not in favor of long extractions. If I have to lay on the ground until they clear the area then wait another 5+ minutes for the chooper, then another 5+ minute ride. I might as well frag myself I do like realism but again we do have to make some gameplay issues. After all being a soldier is not all about fighting. I won't play a game if I have to spend 12 hours digging defensive positions around my base So already we have made gameplay consessions.
  13. BravoBill

    Carry the wounded!

Spy17 there will always have to be consessions to gameplay. One thing is that getting wounded people out isn't like Hollywood movies. Often you lay there for a while. In an MP game I can assure you I would shoot anybody trying to move soldiers including medics. I would disregard any other troops and just focus on the medevac. Sure it might not be moral but there is no ICC in the gaming world Now if you have to clear the area first what about the guy laying on the ground? Would you really like to lay there for 20 + minutes? I agree it would be fun to move people but we have to find some timely way of doing things
  14. BravoBill

    Carry the wounded!

Yeah, to be honest playing MP in a public server can make you loose faith in humanity I think it's a good idea and in a clan match I'd actually play as a medic or medevac pilot/gunner. The problem is to not make it too complicated. Cause even in a clan match what happens if they take over your field hospital? Who wants to be the guy that stands at the tent and does nothing but wait? I guess you could balance that with AA at the hospital.

Poseidon II , the ultimate engine?

I think that's the greatest improvement. In OFP I never really felt like I was in a combat zone. I could fly or drive anywhere at any time and never run into an enemy or friendly unit. It would be nice if I could take a wrong turn and then run into another major battle

Poseidon II , the ultimate engine?

The LA bank shootout robber was shot in the neck I think. It severed his brain stem resulting in instant neural network failure. Basically it cut his brain off from talking to the rest of his body. I'll give you an example of what I was talking about of how ballistics effect the body. Now this could be graphic to some people so if you don't wish to read it please don't read the rest of my post. I was in the military. During one of our patrols we met up with another squad. While walking down the street one of them was shot in the neck. The shot was from behind but he fell backwards. The bullet entered his neck and exited near his chin. This thrusted his head backwards and he fell backwards. His body didn't go limp at all. His muscles actually tensed up. Ever hear the expression death grip? The result was he fell in the exact position he was in when he was shot. He was stiff as a board. These are things ragdolls don't and can't simulate. A ragdoll simply doesn't take into account weight or balance. The result is a shot from the front always pushes the person back. A shot from the back always pushes forward. In reality how a body reacts greatly depends on angle of shot and what the bullet hits in the body. Some parts of the body absorb force better than others. Some people get shot and fall straight down without the body reacting to the force of the shot. The part of the body hit doesn't absorb force so the energy is passed right through the body. All in all I think ragdolls are a bit better than some animations but it is still far from a complete realistic depiction of how a body reacts. I think OFP2 will have them though. But we'll have to wait and see

    Carry the wounded!

I think the biggest problem has already been mentioned. It's nice to have all these features but how will it play. When I'm wounded now a lot of times in MP the medic won't heal me as it is. Now if he has to carry me for 10 minutes he's likely to just shoot me himself or just leave me. Also it's no fun having to sit doing nothing for 10 minutes as somebody carries you around. I would like the idea of being able to do it but it has to be done in a way so it doesn't seriously hurt gameplay. In squad matches or Coop I think the full scope of what is being suggested works very well. But in public servers you might as well frag yourself because nobody is going to take themselves away from the action long enough to transport you back and everything. I think the idea of a medevac in those situations is great. But I just don't see the application on public servers. Impavido had it best. Carrying or drag the soldier to a medic and then that's it

Poseidon II , the ultimate engine?

Yeah, I haven't played America's Army in a while but when I did play they updated the ragdoll. The guy became way too middle heavy. So he just dropped like a ton of bricks. This lead to a lot of deaths where your bum was sticking in the air. If they could just add weight to the body. In a lot of games you hit somebody in the side of the chest and they fall sideways like they were hit with a 50 cal M2 or something. An M16 usually won't make you fly off the ground sideways. Also the skeletal system seems non existent. How many times have you see ragdolls bend over completely backwards. I think America's Army even with the heavy mid section was a step in the right direction. However, they need to add that weight to the whole body

    Idea of inaccurate fire.

I think this is a problem of realism VS gameplay. One of the things that most people hate about Brothers in Arms is the aiming system. You can have your sight perfectly on a target, shoot, and miss. Again, perfect, shoot, miss. This becomes extremely frustrating to the player and makes aiming more of a random event. So shooting becomes more luck than skill. I have to admit after shooting with sights on target 3 times at no more than 20 feet from an enemy and missing. I stopped using the iron sight all together. The crosshair (even without the crosshair and just pointing barrel of the gun at them) was far more effective than aiming with the sight. The first shot is usually always the most accurate. So even at long range if you have time to settle your aim you will be deadly accurate on the first shot. The problem in OFP is not the first shot is the 3rd 4th and 5th shot follow ups. I think if you randomize the recoil this would be best. This will allow the first shot to still be accurate while limiting the rapid follow up shots

Poseidon II , the ultimate engine?

My biggest problem with ragdoll is that the body becomes weightless when death or incapacitation is modeled. They don't seem to be good at implementing momentum. They also don't have a comprehensive ballistics model. Just because someone is shot from behind doesn't mean they always fall forward and vice versa. Even in death the body is not weightless. So unless they find a way to add substantial weight to the body. I think death animations are fine. Perhaps a animation + ragdoll combo would be best. In every game I've played with ragdoll I can tell instantly what angle and trajectory the shot came from. This is often not possible in real life due to how ballistics effect the body. But with ragdoll if you fall forward the shot always comes from behind you.

    OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

No, there will be only one universal pattern issued for the Army, the grey/blue one. Hard to believe, I know, but it is confirmed and it is currently being issued to Army units. No desert/wood patterns anymore. Rest assured the camo in these screens, except for the old Woodland camo, is wood and desert MARPAT. The UH-1N helicopter, MARPAT infantry, AAVP7A1 APC and M16A4 rifle are all Marine equipment, but the M1A2, possibly the woodland camo soldier and possibly the HMMWV are Army (The Humvee is missing its snorkel that USMC Humvees usually have). It wouldn't surprise me if they went for a Marine-heavy approach, they're especially in vogue nowadays, for example First to Fight and Battlefield 2 cast Marines as the U.S side. Well, looking at OFP1 everything is far from ultrarealistic and consistent so maybe I'm reading too much into it. Hahaha. Ok. Oh, I didn't know they went with just one.. And the grey one at that I do hope they go more with the Marines myself. In OFP I couldn't help but wonder why it was Army only. Especially with the invasion to take back the island. I mean, isn't that what Marines do... Storm beaches I'd really like to see Army, Airborne, and Marines

    OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

I think we need to cut BIS some slack. After all there is a limited number of people working on the game. The community has done a lot. However, there are hundreds of people making addons. How many people even work at BIS? Also one thing a official game does is Standardize the board. True, there have been a lot of addons and effects. But not everybody has those effects. Also where are all of these great missions with these fancy addons? I see a lot of fluff but very little substance. That's something BIS can offer. We also don't know what other improvements have been made. I'm not in it for the graphics. If I was I wouldn't still be playing OFP even with the community addons. It's about gameplay. Also, BIS doesn't really owe us anything. We gave them our money they didn't force us. I like what I see and I will buy it If it's not worth it to some then that's fine to. But I'm happy

    OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

I'm hoping there is both Army and Marine stuff in the game. Or perhaps it is just the new Army digital camo scheme. The new ACU should be given out to the Army soon. Check here http://www4.army.mil/ocpa/read.php?story_id_key=6042 There are 3 types they said. So maybe we aren't seeing MARPAT at all.. But then what about the A4.. And that one APC looks like a Marine carrier... I wish we had some offical word

    OFP2 Shots on ofp.info!

No its tank , i zoomed in it upped the contrast and saw a faint line long like a tanks gun protruding from it. I did this to. I don't think it's a Shilka as the top of it is a not long and fat. It seems to be a dome of some sort that suddenly stops. So my money is on some sort of BMP or a PT-76. After all it appears the beach is being stormed so I'm not sure what a Shilka would be doing... Or it could be a pull out. As with everything we shall wait and see

    OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

I also see no Xbox logo anywhere on the site. I think Codemasters was the one that pushed BIS to make OFP for Xbox. Codemasters has always had the idea of making a game for every single platform. It could also be why the name is Armed Assault. Maybe BIS told Codies to go bite the big one One can only hope but even if not. I still say this is PC screen shots
