I'm looking for some simple advice on how to get the single best improvement out of what I have or by perhaps buying a modest (ie not bleeding edge) upgrade, any help would be very much apprecited. Current system: CPU: Q6600 stock speed with stock HSF RAM: 4GB (4x1gb sticks) of Corsair PC2-6400 (part CM2X1024-6400C4) MOBO: Nforce 680i SLI reference mobo GFX: Geforce 7950GT @ stock speeds OS: WinXp I've tried clocking on the current HSF combo and I get random reboots at 3.2ghz. -
Kola Kubes would go down well...

WIP: stuff you are working on!
BennyBoy replied to adumb's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I decided to dust off my old scimitar model and get it working in Arma - the ofp model was a mess so I'm basically starting over on most of it. It's also being brought up to current Operation Herrick specifications with modern Bowman comms & ECM systems. Should be getting unwrapped in a couple of weeks. -
Anything vehicle related that gets released for Arma will be a candidate for a backport to OFP, there's not a huge amount of effort in doing that as long as the base lods aren't massively detailed. BUT, there are no specific plans for any further OFP releases. Of course some of us may take it upon ourselves to do OFP releases on the side, but there are no promises. I honestly can't see DPM2 ever being released for OFP, we do have a VERY DATED desert version of DPM, but it's unliekly we'd release that for OFP as bleed quite frankly blows it away.
-
I still intend to release the scorpion/scimitar for OFP so that it can be used with the Falklands mod - it's complete for all intents and purposes except for an interior - which should hopefully be rectified soon.

All I know about flock of Seagulls is that they had really dodgy haircuts.

Cannot create 3D device - buzzing me off!

sometimes -nomap in the command line can help with this. -
Well, we're working on a new version of DPM (version 2) which, to blow our own trumpets, will knock your socks off. There may be something coming along in the interim though....

Just to add some further tidbits to what's been posted abovr by Messiah, if you keep an eye on the UKF website over the coming weeks you'll see some other addons being showcased. We've a lot of stuff in the pipeline: WMIK Pack2, Snatch, CVRT Pack1 (scimitar/Scorpion), CVRT Pack2 (Samaritan/Sultan), Warrior Pack 2 - massively improved and updated, Challenger 2, DPM 2 - this one's a biggie, and a lot more that are, well, kind of secret We've also taken the time to write a few basic tutorials which can be found in the main site menu, more will be added over the coming weeks, requests can be made in our forums for tutorials on specific things to be written, if we have the knowledge and the time we're happy to share it.

I've been working on my present project for over a year and it is still not finished. I for one would be amazed if you can knock up original, high quality work in the time frame suggested above.

Well, as far as I can see, this is just a bone throwing exercise because BIS know the game aint gonna be out for quite a while. Keeping us interested.

Hi, I'm creating an addon which uses proxies for some of the vehicle detailing (to limit polygons in o2), I know how to display the proxy in game, but I'd like to be able to hide the proxy - probably at init time using a script or preferably directly from the vehicle config. What do I need to do? (my proxy is defined using the proxyammointruck method) Thanks, Ben
-
More often than not this happens with textures with alpha channels but sometimes with those without, a simple trick to get textures using the best mipping level is to ensure they mapped onto a 3 dimensional object and not a plane. You can do this any way you want but I sometimes hide a very small cube inside an object and map the texture onto it - works a charm.

How to hide proxy (not vehicle crew)
BennyBoy replied to BennyBoy's topic in OFP : CONFIGS & SCRIPTING
Thanks for the info hardrock. I think I'll just have a seperate model for each situation - since it will only ever be hidden at init. Shouldn't be too bad size wise once things are compressed. PS it's to do with hiding the RPG fences on this: -
How to hide proxy (not vehicle crew)

Is that how people who make missiles for planes do it? Or do they just hidden selections? I'm quite happy to go down the cargo proxy route - I'm just not sure how to do it - come to think of it, is proxyammointruck not cargo anyhow? Failing that it just means having 2 more 5-6mb p3d's in a pack. -
I agree wholeheartedly with abs, I for one will absolutely not be using these addons.

The BV in the scimitar mate, best BV they ever did I'm told.

Here's a recentish shot of the Scimitar, this shot has Op Telic RPG fenceing on.

They're most useful for showing motion in bright conditions, so for example you want to blur a waterfall on a bright day, you would use a 3 stop or upwards ND filter to allow a longer exposure. There are also graduated ND filters which are useful for landscape work, the dark bit covers the sky to even out exposure between land and sky, that way the sky isn't 'blown out'.

Mirror lock up on a 350D? How did you do that? Custom Function 7
-
Here's my favourite shot, taken about a month ago: It was taken with the following settings 20s exposure, f11, ISO200 24mm, on a tripod mounted Canon 350D with a shutter release cable and mirror lockup enabled.

If starforce were to be deployed in the days of cassette tapes they would have had to employ a thug to come and live in your house and break the record button on any equipment you bought, would you put up with that?

Wasn't AA anounced on April 1st? :P
