Not trying to go off topic here but the 'argument' has been brought up once again that 'Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance - how can they justify x, y, z.' 1) ALL of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Islam, Christianity) books are at best subject to personal interpretation and at worst self-contradictory and vague. 2) Every person has their own interpretation of what they read. With the books offering passages supporting BOTH sides of almost every arguement (eg kill/ don't kill, etc) almost any viewpoint can be supported with quotes seemingly 'backing it up.' So those who think killing heathens is fine have their quotes, those who don't have theirs. There is no single interpretation, because the books are such morasses of nonsense and self- contradiction. So the whole 'omg this cleric says it is wrong why don't they listen to him' arguement is both pointless and misguided. The whole book(s) are the problem, not people's interpretations of them - since there is no way to say which is the 'correct' interpretation. The cleric who says killing infidels is pure and holy is no more or less right than the one who says infidels should be treated as equals. Hopefully that is the last on this 'arguement' we will see here.

Nobody is in the gamespy lobby because nobody uses gamespy. Not many people like bloated spy/ adware infested lumps of crap masquerading as server browsers. Hence all the server browsers for OFP; ofpwatch, etc.

BF42 is the most realistic military game
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX replied to sputnik monroe's topic in OFFTOPIC
Shellshock is the term, and it is one of my favorite parts of the game. No. That is not shellshock. Shellshock was what is now called post traumatic stress disorder. The way people get stunned and dazed after being in one explosion is called being stunned and dazed. -
You're playing on the wrong servers if thats what its like; thats the rambo problem others were talking about earlier.
-
Only if you're the kind of person who can't or doesn't bother reading what the server info says. Servers tell you when they need addons. If someone joins one which needs addons, without bothering to get them, thats THEIR problem for being an idiot.

Our military rations are typically boil in the bag efforts, not the dehydrated ones you pour water into (unless its training rations) and are very good. The boxes have the calorific content on the side, if I'm not mistaken. UK meals have far less calories than the US ones, and we aren't expected to eat everything in the box, but the calorific content is plenty for a fit soldier. I typically eat a very low carbohydrate diet, usually only eating meat for most meals. Not the Atkins or whatever its called. Just a low carb diet. I don't eat much (nowadays - used to eat fucking loads when I was a student) - maybe 4 or 5 thick pork sausages for a meal, or a small steak, or a couple of bits of fish. Nothing else. Some fruit every day. Lots of milk and Irn Bru. Also note that most military guys won't be eating rations every day - in fact I think there are limits on how often rations vs cooked meals per month. I'm pretty fit, I think. I run pretty much every day, do plenty of horizontal jogging and get a decent workout with the military every so often. I do drink too much lager, but don't we all?

What about a mac version ?
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX replied to sebexxx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Macs are very powerful machines .... when editing video, etc. They are simply not set up in a manner consistent with PC games. They can't really handle them on par with a PC. Sad but true. If a company wrote games FOR the mac, they would work fine, but the architecture is just... different. -
FOr the 50th time: 'The Army' doesn't use any of that stuff. The US Army does. The Army = trademarked/ copyrighted whatever of the British Army. If you mean the US Army, say the US Army. UK kit: PLCE (Personal Load Carrying Equipment) = decent enough. We do a lot more tabbing in general than the US so we need comfortable gear. Current bergan is ok, could use more pockets. Can cause serious chafing on back if running with it for long distances, but I don't think there is anything that doesn't. Webbing: The straps can slide too easily meaning you have to tape up the rear ones (leaving the front ones undone for quick removal if needed.) Can be uncomfortable on bony hips / without padded belt. Carries load quite well though. Running with all the pouches full of sand is not a problem for the webbing. Daysack (rocket pouch) = wank. Too small, too tall. Most guys just have a DPM civvy daysack instead. Sleeping system : too big when packed. As said earlier about US equipment, there are far smaller civvy versions with same season ability. Bivvy bag is ok, Helmet: IF it fits you and is properly adjusted, then it is fine, although completely useless except for as a crash helmet and protecting against shrapnel- like most helmets. Body armour : flak jacket. Very hot. Designed to keep you together after being hit, rather than to stop bullets. With plates, probably ok. DPM combats: Aside from the fact that the ripstop trousers were never issued due to cost issues, and have to be purchased if wanted by individuals, and the ease at which the lightweight standard issue (DPM) trousers tear (one weeks shooting guarantees ripped combats). They do dry very fast and are quite comfy. Jacket is rainproof if idiots don't make you iron it. Overall a lot better than the temperate kit. Waterproofs - very good. Work fine. Trousers tend to slip a bit, need better fastening. Having rank slides in the centre of the chest works ok. Can be a bit hard to see sometimes but so can arm rankslides. NBC : it WORKS better than US equipment (hence why you saw US generals and Saudi Princes on the news wearing it instead of US gear) - but it could be more comfortable/ less hot. Although I wouldn't sacrifice protection for them. Can be difficult/ painful* to shoot in the respirator if you aren't used to it. Boots: well we've all seen the reports on how bad the British boots are. Melting in the heat, etc. Although I've had one pair of standard boots for almost 5 years and they are still comfy and waterproof. Soles almost worn right through though. I have done a LOT of tabbing, shooting and obstacle crossings/ courses in them. Even wore them to africa for 5 weeks and they held up pretty well. The inner is now stained dark brown mud, like everything else I took to africa, though, and will not wash out. Lots of cracking of leather, but as I say, they're still waterproof. My other pair is shaping up the same way. Most british soldiers need to buy their own boots, though, for comfort reasons. Weapons field gear: The kit for weapons in general in the field is excessively bulky and heavy. The sling on the LSW does not work properly as it is mounted too far towards the butt. Most of the equipment design is at least a decade old. Having said that, it works I'd rather it was bulky, heavy and works, than it was small, light and didnt. A note on rifle reliability: The main problem with SA80 (l98a1) jamming/ stoppages is obsessive types in positions of command who insist on full cleaning at every opportunity. That causes the stoppages. The gas parts only really BEGIN to work after a couple of hundred rounds. If you scour clean it too much, like any machine, you wear it down. The parts get scratches in them from cleaning, and accumulate carbon faster, in irregular places. I personally fired a couple of thousand rounds through my rifle over several days, and the only cleaning I did was pulling through the barrel. NO STOPPAGES. This only works on weapons that haven't been abraded and scoured too much in the past. Every report from the manufacturers has stressed this point: do NOT clean it so much! The only real issue is with magazines -the A1 mags are very flimsy and ..crap. / rant. *it bashes into your eyebrow, more so than the susat and breaks the skin until you develop harder skin there.

I was thinking about posting this. Great news, if only for the practical computing benefits that will come from it; let alone the potential for teleporters :P

No, it's like everyone gets pissed off when a shite game, like this, is presented as the best thing since OFP. Most of us have played the demo. It was shite. And I can tell you for a FACT that players are not rendered at 1km viewdistance unless you are zoomed in. Thats how all these players can play - only a few of them are on screen at any one time, and sending data about them. You can move around in vehicles because the physics are so simplified. Everything moves as if its a ride on rails at Universal Studios. The only point you've proved is that you like shitty arcade games, and can't see their faults for the huge shiny plastic wrap covering them.

Wow this guy really deserves the Medal of Honor
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX replied to Koolkid101's topic in OFFTOPIC
USING politics to ENFORCE racist and prejudiced ideas is not, by any means, the same as politics creating those ideas. (as an example) Religion tells people how to act. Politics does not. -

No it hasn't, its been caused by racial bias. Racism exists independently of politics. -
Finnish Defence Forces Modification 1.3
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX replied to feersum.endjinn's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Haven't replied yet since I've been too busy playing it. Great job as usual. I have a crash bug though - when I am part of a military police group, and browse the 'gear' in the map screen = crash. Am using nomap and no other mods but finmod. Anyone else get that? Simply fantastic, everything else. I can see some excellent opportunities using the new units and abilities - especially steerable chutes. -

Fancy Takeoff (N.Nogova)
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX replied to aook002's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Yes. Don't even need a game logic. Search ofpec. I lost a lot of my stuff so I can't tell you right now, but it is definitely possible. -
Yea. So. Guy (albeit clever guy) decides one day it'd be cool to have a material that is like a cloak of invisibility. Then decides to make it. Few years later: Voila (Early version as yet, but) The other projects he is working on make it look like he's a big ghost in the shell fan; he even looks a little like the boss guy. Obviously its not (yet) something you can run around in and appear invisible to everyone; but its a good start. *edit* - look at the link. There are lots of movies that demonstrate this very well*edit*

If it´s as shitty as the demo was then definetly not. Word

What are the best flying/piloting missions?
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX replied to Silent N Deadly's topic in USER MISSIONS
Co 18 WWSoldiers. Very good hard low level flying. Some great WGL heli missions involving apaches, hinds and cobras. Much better than BAS or standard. -
And you base this on......? Movies, perhaps? FDFs recoil is a hell of a lot more realistic than any other mods, in the most part. What is unrealistic is medium machine guns from standing on full auto having almost no recoil, in other mods.

Granted. Is there a way to detect whether someone is pressing 'move' 'fast move' or 'slow move'? Excellent
