Hey. "Trash" addons are fun. I like my realism to an extent but when I'm playing multi or looking for addons I don't expect every minute detail observed. For hardware constraints and overall enjoyment. I'd find such an idea just falling... flat. Besides. Sometimes it's funny to just get some fictional or scifi weapons into an otherwise more-serious co-op or something. Just for laughs. Playing a mission as a squad of skeletons. That'd be fun.

Personally. I'd be more inclined to use this addon if it was self-contained? I really don't like the idea of necessarily having other unrelated addons installed to use it. If you have permission to use textures? Can you not "use them"? Instead of referencing them? It looks interesting though.

That's why recruits should be trained in some aspects on handling shitty heavy old equipment. They'll appreciate and handle better the lighter weight of the actual equipment when in the field maybe?

Why the necessity for an installer? It's four addons.

How many units are in the pack altogether? I'm sitting here blinking and bewildered trying to figure out how you compressed 30 some megabytes of pbo into 4.25. Why specifically does it need so many other addons? The text file implies that you'd more or less gotten permission to use models/textures? Does that mean you're simply allowed to reference to them in a cpp? I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the concept that a soldier pack would be so huge.

Oh that is handy. I'll try that. Cheers.

Well I'm trying to add my own face to ofp and I made the pbo and the cpp file to go with it. I did everything I should but it still doesn't let me use it. When I select the face in profile editor menu in OFP. I see the class definition and the name. However the rotating model doesn't change. What gives? I believe to the best of my knowledge that I made the image within the acceptable specifications required. 256x256 24 bit color jpeg. Anything I'm missing? Why won't it work? Any help would be appreciated.

On the question of legality. Anyone who's ever made an addon and used a third party sound is obviously committed this same offence. The OFP community is getting a bit hard up for things to complain about if importing models from other games is the most you can get upset about. If you don't like them. Don't use them. If raven software cares -that- much. They'll take care of it. As far as the addons go. They're ok. The USAS 12 is the only one that sort of interests me. The persistent shells is a nice novelty but I'd rather have pc performance directed elsewhere, realistically speaking. Of course if you really don't like the USAS12 firing solid slugs. Then you could always convert LSC's shotgun eventhandler script to the addon of your choice. With the advent of the wonderful CUTPBO.exe technology. You can now modify any cpp to suit your individual tastes. I am the Max Hardcore of OFP addon editing. Oh yeah!!! Â

As I recall reading The "krummlauf" barely worked with the 45 degree attachment let alone the 90 degree one. At best with the former attachment bullets would splinter and fragment as they left the barrel making it particularly useless. The AA launcher looks cool though.

I heard about the UK government's cynicism about the veracity of those photos. Assuming they weren't in Iraq. Does that really mean the violence depicted therein is staged? Conspiracy?
-
I just can't believe that Rush Limbaugh initially espoused the idea behind the pictures. What a moron. Everyone's going to see him for the ignorant fool he is now. After the whole drug abuse scandal. I'm hoping his credibility is now going down in flames. I've heard ruminations about how this incident will make this "war" all but unwinnable. Well shit. That's giving Bush a bit too much credit. This "war" will be lost regardless. They have to leave sometime. The United States is heading into a bad recession and keeping a fully functional military to occupy a country that clearly doesn't want them there. Is going to cost. Either the American citizens will say enough is enough. Or Bush will give up the ghost and back out. I think the former is much more plausible than the latter. Unfortunately. Betcha there'll be some jihadis of varying denominations just itching for a clear shot at him... I dunno if it was a wise decision.

I'm still outraged by it. Regardless. It's extremely hard to maintain any perspective after seeing it. It resulted in my having a rather ugly discourse with an arab friend of mine. I have no idea why he'd see any need to defend it. Or at least make the indifferent remarks he did. I read the transcript of the speech the executor read. It repeatedly referenced pride and dignity as the primary impetus to the butchering. This one comment made me fume. I almost want someone to try and kill me for that reason. Give me a chance to see how many hits it takes to splinter my louisville slugger. That's just me being angry however. Anyone who kills under the pretense of hurt pride is a psychopath. They're psychopaths. Anyone who can sympathize with them are most likely as well. They should watch the video and see if raw human suffering doesn't change their mind. Regardless of religion. It was a horrendous act. This will bother me for a long time. I think my opinion on the whole issue has been irreparably altered. I still don't agree with the war in Iraq and I certainly don't subscribe to any jingotard patriotic delusions. However I am totally against slaughtering of innocent people because someone was offended.

FDF's sounds are by far superior to dynamic range. Best overall in my opinion. Not to mention that Dynamic range has or had serious issues with multiplay.
-
Digressing once more. Since I am using a slightly modified scripts.pbo I might've inadvertantly done something to screw up my current installation of FDF, however once you do launch the uav nobody at all can order units via the map afterwards. I've just confirmed it by attempting to do so in both multiplayer and in single play. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way around it? That severely limits the usefulness of such a utility if it basically takes away another useful command tool.
-
It's out!? When? Hm. Might not even be that since I did some script.pbo hacking and for some reason it looks like there are artifacts from the decryption... little box-like squares and such. In some of the scripts. Others aren't. I basically wanted to disable a few things for performance reasons. Which involved opening it up. Along with tracing references in the config.cpp. The blood. The medic yell loop... hm. I manually applied the fix for the burning script executing explosions on multiple clients. If that's the case that really sucks. There are some things I just -don't- want to have in my game.

My initial post: Ok forget all that. I think it must be some kind of issue with the UAV and multiplayer or something. Since I just tried it in the editor and it worked just fine. It however didn't work earlier when I tried in an MP game and we had a UAV. Perhaps the mapclick command took over? I've noticed a few other issues concerning static guns. Such as the mortar. Which sometimes seem to cause the game to crash if an AI guy is carrying either the base plate or the tube. I can't narrow down the circumstances any better. It just seems erratic. In multiplayer for some reason if I'm carrying a mortar tube it will just disappear from my inventory. I attempted to assemble a mortar during multiplay once and it disappeared when I chose to combine the two.

I'm trying to play on the internet with a friend. He has the 1.96 final and I have the 1.96 beta patch. Are there any differences. I read that apparently not but does this cause any multiplayer difficulties? I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. He sent me his IP address but it's weird. I don't think it's his IP. He is using a linksys four port router as a hub. He accesses the internet via the router. Apparently the firewall is disabled according to him. I still can't connect however. Is there an easy way to figure out what someone's IP address is from an outside source? Noting that windows messenger or AIM which I know can do it or any other thing such as that isn't really a feasible option.

God. Yes. I was waiting for AEF's Tornado. Is this the same one? If not whatever. This one's great! It doesn't lag either. Which is just the cat's ass. I'd love to make a deathmatch or teamplay map on Ghie with sporadic tornados to add some spice to the gameplay. That would be a nice novelty to play around with.
-
I might be tempted to fiddle around with this myself at some point see what I can do with it. It's cool to see this kind of support for an open addon community. Especially what with the occurence of recent events.
-
People I know who played it said it was fun for a while but the game got pretty ridiculous after a while. Apparently there's a mission with zombies in it. Which makes no sense at all. A lot of the missions are repetitive apparently. I'm still interested in taking a look at it. Only on the PS2 since a lot of console conversions require a machine that's like four years more advanced than what the console hardware needed to run the thing half decently.

I'd rather have decent audio than a "music video". Still I guess something is better than nothing when it comes to filling a void of no sound at all.

Replacing units and vehicles in config.cpp
Baphomet replied to triumph's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I use FDF as a basis for all my cpp tweaks. It has a lot of cool features I want and it's one of the more "lower-end" pc friendly mods out there. Back up your modifications in case you want to play with other people. I'm not sure if they'd take too well to cheating or throwing the game out of sync. -
Fuckin rights. No offence but if you're taking ofp that seriously. You need to start re-evauating your life and see if all that time you're putting into ofp could be used to a better end. Putting your life into an ofp addon isn't what any normal person would ask of themselves or other people. I don't really think in the beginning anyone really cared. It was all about doing things that weren't done before. Now it's all about the ego. It's just sad. Using some immature 13 year old complaining about some trite features of an addon as justification for protecting addons isn't any excuse either. To me I see those being so paranoid as to protect their work as being the real children. To be honest this whole issue could well be the nail in the coffin for my interest in ofp... that and the steadily increasing system requirements for addons. If BIS developers are mature enough to acknowlege that people like to modify things for their own liking why can't addon makers as well? They seem to think highly enough of themselves as "would-be developers" can they not act like them as well? Oh wait. Yeah. You're not being paid money. So you have to get your compensation elsewhere. In the form of some kind of ego stroke. Right?
