    JAM3 - Beta testers

    FDF really just sort of does it's own thing and to be honest. I think it's better. Better sound... better... everything really. Not to mention it's editable so I can pretty much use all stock weapons and any addon that uses stock weapons to my specification. If FDF wasn't an option I think JAM would be a good alternative. Eh, JAM isn't meant to be changed for personal use, its meant to stay universal. The whole point of JAM is to replace every magazine out there with a standardized JAM one, not so you can mess with it. Well. I think I like FDF much better simply because it's not some kind of an addon implying that I have to adhere to standards set by someone else, be it sounds or variables that don't conform to my liking. Honestly. If you want customizability. Making your own .cpp or FDF mod is the way to go. JAM is ideally more like some... multiplayer standardization or something. I won't touch that whole area with a 10 foot pole since internet OFP isn't my bag. I'm a control freak and I really have no care at all for how anyone else thinks I should play the game.

    New Ocean Island

    This island is fun, but it really needs to have certain unfinished objects finished or removed for the time being. It's detracting from the overall experience. Any objects, such as houses, or parking garages or skyscrapers that don't obstruct things like vehicles, people, or bullets aren't very functional. I think that single island as-is with some added objects and some that don't work properly, removed. Would make for great deathmatching. I would advise against making the island too huge. Simply because it would make most pcs work harder just rendering the island/objects. Let alone handling a decent amount of entities.
  3. Has or will anyone incorporate Karillion's Vtol script into an addon via useractions and eventhandlers if possible? I really enjoyed using it during RTS and I have the script files but I lack the time, patience, and ability to do it myself. I'd have to say Karillion's Vtol is definitely the best simply because of it's ease of use. Thus far all other incarnations of VTOL scripts in aircraft have proved to be clunky and hard to use. Very much unlike the fool proof Vtol script that ensures you won't have to spend minutes hovering or worring about flipping over, stalling and crashing like others. Anyhow. Just a thought.

    Karillion's VTOL script

    Karillion's vtol is based on Prospero's prosphere. In case it hasn't been already mentioned. I dunno about rolling out of control. To be honest when I was flying the cessna in an RTS game it was just gravy because it was the most unrealistic vtol simply because it was like you were flawlessly hovering over the ground and slowing down and descending or ascending. You wouldn't risk falling out of the sky simply because if you were in vtol mode, It wasn't possible. Perhaps not realistic, but a hell of a lot more simple and fun. It did exactly what it needed to do. Make planes available for use in areas where long flat stretches of land were simply not always available for takeoffs or landings. It did so in the most predictable and practical way possible.

    In OFP the issue of 3d versus 2d ironsights is a moot one. Or any game that does not both simulate both the involuntary movements of both the weapon you are holding and the movement of your head.

    I was always thinking that eventually more advanced and portable anti tank weapons systems would be produced to effectively replace the necessity to use tanks in an antitank role. Still, some good points have been made about the usefulness and versatility of a rugged all weather combat vehicle such as a tank.

    This is a wicked idea. However it seems people are having problems getting it to run. I'll have to have a look at it sometime soon when I get some free time. Keep at it. I'm sure if it gets enough interest the problem will be diagnosed and fixed. I wouldn't think a script would cause that much system performance drain unless they weren't optimized. -EDIT- After reading through a bit more, perhaps one of the stock islands or one requiring less system resources might be a bit better. I'm certain that there will be some ambitious individuals that will want to port it to the islands of their choice.

    That's good news. The only thing is. Would it be possible for you make a lite version of the flame/smoke effects? On my faster pc this beauty works fine, but I'm concerned about other computers that may run this in a deathmatch. It seems like the effects could possibly be a bit intensive for some later model pcs. The number, speed of creation and animation rate of cloudlets would probably be where I'd start. I know if you start messing with the amount of time the script updates you'll get a fire that sort of lags behind a person.

    That would be cool but possibly quite a performance killer I'd imagine. By the way. What's the texture resolution for the island? 512 at most? Hopefully? Some of those screens remind me of winter out here in rural alberta in some places.

    Does the AI Even take into consideration the grass? Otherwise it's like a pretty obstruction to hide AI that can see you just fine.

    Filesize?! What about performance? Anyhow. I liked the rolling terrain in that one winter pic... The whole mention of 1024x1024 textures and the size of those huge cities put together just scares me however. Ya think you'll actually be able to play decent sized missions with, you know... actual units without chugging along at 15fps with all that?

    I'm looking for a sound pack... kind of an addon I guess. Munger's battlesounds to be exact. Atwar's link is dead so I was hoping maybe someone else knew of a place I could get it. Any help is appreciated.

    Well... if it's moved to another group but it still has space, shouldn't it still come up as a vehicle that has space to assign driver/gunner/commander/cargo to? Or am I just completely missing something?

    So I've been fiddling around with this thing and I wanted to make two very specific and individual units from a large group get into a vehicle... I assign one to the vehicle as driver. Then the vehicle disappears from the list. This is a bug right? Because there's space for another individual in the vehicle and yet it's not letting me choose who to put in next. Now. Please don't tell me I am relegated to using the auto function. As that's only good for groups designed for mechanized infantry... or what have you. I'd say this is a pretty serious bug if it wasn't intended. It certainly isn't even approaching being remedied by using the auto assign feature.

    It is boring. It's also not terribly realistic. Longer range shots take time to aim, it's not an off the hip or snap decision type affair like it is with stock BIS weapons. I equate those long range "see who can off the hip snipe someone first" fights to the same kind of lameness as rocket arena style "see who shoots one another with the most rockets or bullets in the shortest amount of time whilst circle strafing like a hobo on crack at 60 miles per hour" deals.

    That's what OFP is all about. Not this high poly "wannabe Ghost Recon sillyness". The CTD sounds reminiscent of the WYW_OPFOR pack which I still have trouble actually running. The hell...?
