Keeping in mind that BIS releasedates don´t mean that much, I´m all for a fixed and patched Arma1 first, apart from waiting 2 or more years for the sucessor with a broken Arma1 on my HD. There are just too many bugs with Arma1 even after 1.08 and imo they should do everything needed to get Arma1 to a more bugfree and compatible level as it is today. They have already improved the game alot, no doubt, but still, there are some really major issues in the game that have not been adressed up to now.( There are just too many bugs and flaws with the AI and pathfinding and interacting with terrain that I ALWAYS get at least one big showstopper per created mission. it has come that far, that I have to list those issues in the readme coming with the mission. Furthermore it already took me hours to find workarounds for the bugs, avoid those bugs and exclude them as much as possible from the missions. This is very frustrating, and i guess every mission - editor can agree on that). If they won´t do that first, I will not feel very motivated to buy a future release, as the support could run the same way. For me, the harm that BIS has done to themselves by releasing Arma as it was (and still is in some parts) is a big one. If they decide to focus on Arma2 instead of fixing what they delivered they will make the harm even bigger and again loose a big chunk of their reputation.

Most likely not. The lack of a dedicated 3d accelerator card will be hindering you alot, same with the slow CPU.

If you got your version patched to 1.08 you can select the language already if you don´t have a russian version of Arma.
-
Don´t know if it applies to you, but change your resolution to a higher value. Lower resolutions gave me bad FPS.

I also had the problem and I did a workaround by placing a game-logic as speaker at a relative position to camera and had the game-logic say the sound. It´s like you have an invisible speaker.

The hind on that screenshot looks absolutely fantastic. Have a closer look.

I don´t even feel bothered to answer all that nonsense you 2 are pulling up now. Any personal vendettas of any kind can gladly be taken to PM. @Black Sphere: whatever...

Nice one If you disembark from a chopper the group will try to get into default formation or whatever formation they are ordered to. If you are close to water this means that their default position is in the water at times (dependant of leader position) , so they will go there as they can now swim. So what ? I´d be careful with your accusations. A happy flamer ? Get a life. They just need to be directed properly, and yes, I have my share of knowledge here, working on missions that include men near water, in water or in boats, helos, whatever. Nice flaming post.

I certainly don´t hope so as another major patch , dealing with all those bugs that are indeed not minor ones, is badly needed. Still, with QG coming with 1.08 I don´t see that happening anytime soon.

Marek already said in an interview that QG´s version will be 1.08

No, but I´d like to see Arma fixed first and then moving on to another sequel. If they plan to leave Arma in 1.08 state and go full throttle for Arma 2 (what has to be expected, keeping in mind that 2008 is very near already) I will feel cheated. Arma was released and BIS acknowledged that it was released bugged and hurried and for money-reasons. Today we hear about a sequel scheduled for next year while the original, Arma, is still bugged and BASIC features like pathfinding do not really work at all (bridges). Along with a list of bugs that are not fixed (foliage, AI, render errors, etc....) this leaves the impression that Arma itself can not be made bugfree, or BIS are not interested in doing that. The proper (read customer friendly way) would be: - fix Arma and iron out all the showstoppers that are present in big amounts - develope an expansion that is worth the name expansion - fix the bugs that will most likely come with the expansion - move on with a sequel and not topple the complete scene, leave the Arma 1 customers with their unfinished and unfixed product, sell an expansion for a still bugged game and reach out for new shores with Arma 2. Personally I hate what it happening right now. The owners of Arma 1 are left with something unfinished, get an expansion for an unfinished product and should be looking forward on another product ? Sorry, but that´s not the way I think it should be handled. Grant us support for the product we have first, then try to make some more money with us.

Seriously, I know where the "news" originate from, but I´d like to know where the news are, as for me this simply looks like Arma with some units that were supposed to be in original Arma in the first place; the storyline is very whacko imo as Russia hardly would tolerate an open US-Russia confrontation near their heartlands. This would turn into a worldwar scenario in 1,2,3. Apart from that this gum has been chewed upon for a very long time now and it has become a bit lame in taste. What I specifically dislike is that Arma still has some real showstopper bugs, I mean AI flaws and technical breakdowns like broken pathfinding routines, unresponsive AI´s, etc, etc and I´d like to see that fixed for customers who have bought Arma before basing another version on the engine and releasing it. 2008 doesn´t sound like a reasonable date for me as betatesting would run short again, as with Arma, and the result of this is sitting on our computers. A game with good potential taken down but a serious number of bugs and flaws. Announcing that QG will come with 1.08 patch doesn´t make me specifically optimistic about NEEDED bugfixes for the product. So they´re fxing the Arma 1 bugs with Arma 2 ? This can´t be the right approach and I doubt it will work, keeping in mind that with Arma 1 we got served bugs that were already present in OFP 1.0. I´m a bit sad that they are pressing for the release of another game before fixing the existant one for users who´d like to use the game without limitations and the really serious flaws like AI pathfinding routines. Each time I see another vehicle driving off a bridge because of broken AI pathfinding and wrecked collision detection I could bite my hat, each time I see another unit standing lost in the fields doing nothing while he was JUST supposed to move with his groupleader I could rip my nails, each time I see enemies running through solid objects and vehicles I could just close my eyes and forget about Arma. Why don´t BIS try to fix those bugs FIRST and then move on to another project, or is Arma 2 meant to be the bugfixed version of Arma 1 with new units ? Thank you very much, I´d prefer a bugfree Arma 1 first, then something else, but only if I see that BIS is actually taking responsibility for their products and customers. And that would mean for me to fix Arma for the people who bought it and then move on to whatever project. Thanx for your time !

Just add some additional fans to your casing. I had issues with overheating RAm modules with Arma and adding an adjustable 120mm fan, blowing air over RAM, to the side of the comp solved it all. I also added a slow-turning 80mm-fan to the back of the comp to get out the hot air and it works like a charm. My temps inside the comp at the RAM are around 22 °Celsius when under heavy load and the gfx card never goes above 57° Celsius. It´s also worth a try to carefully remove the fan from gfx card and replace the often-used heatpads that are not o effective with some decent heat-lube like Arctic - silver and reattach the fan. This also gave me an overall drop of 3° Celsius at the card although it runs oc´ed with the double rate at Gfx-Ram and 25 % more on the gfx-core with standard fan. Imo, it´s a matter of proper cooling and ventilation. People do forget that there are components within their comp that are rather heat-sensitive but have n own temp-indicator, like RAM, chipset... Adding a monster cooler to your CPU and Gfx-GPU doesn´t do much if you fail to get the hot air out of the comp and get lots of fresh air into it at the same time. For me, this solved all my problems and enabled me to boost the performance even more as the comp runs very stable with oc´ed settings for both, the CPU and the GPU. It´s all a matter of proper cooling. A neighbour of mine lately called me as he had problems with running certain games. The temperatures at the diagnostics turned out to be high, but still within the limits, but when I opened the case I realized that he only had one 80mm fan blowing in fresh air at the front and the fan from the power supply to get out the air. The case was overall very hot inside and the airstream wasn´t effective as the fresh air mostly was simply taken outside the case without effective cooling of components. I addded another 80mm fan at the RAM position, blowing air over the RAM and another 80mm fan under the gfx-card that is fixed in the comp upside-down. This way the heat problems got solved and he can now play games without any problems. The fans do not have to run on full speed. Adding a wired resistor makes them very silent while still cooling the components properly.

They do just what you tell them. They return to formation. It´s not their fault if you are not able to select an appropriate formation first. User error, not game bug.
-
Problem is that east side units will then attack any editor-placed object on the map and all empty vehicles, crates, etc.
-
Russian version is limited to russian only as the program is cheaper in russia than the rest of the world and this comes with some limits (language selection).

Erm...from my experience this is not quite true as I have at least 3 missions done, using the grouped-with-probability of presence 0-trick and they all work flawless. Civillians are attacked as expected and they do attack as expected aswell. The defenders (bluefor) attack the civis as soon as they got spotted (not 100m´s) and hunted down by blufor. I´m not saying that you are wrong, but this trick really does work for me without any problems at all while the setfriend command does not work properly due to the problem of objects and vehicles placed as "Empty" are assumed to be hostile by blufor when setfriend is used as they are not class "empty" but class "civillian".

I used this one for some samples: AT&T speech lab The results are quite ok imo.
