  1. It´s simply a matter of definition. Firearms do more damage to vehicles as their damage value is higher than the damage value static objects have against vehicles. I´m not sure, but I guess there is no real speedcheck for vehicles in Arma that calculates damage in relation to vehicle speed. It may be there for aircrafts and helos, but land vehicles don´t seem to work that way. I don´t think so.

    Irritating Mouse Lag

Speaking of hardware dependance. I recently upgraded to 2 GB GEIL DDR 400 Ram and as I experienced some kind of mouselag before with the PC 2700 DDR Ram I was kind of curious to test it with new Ram. The problem is no longer existant in any way and I got an additional performance boost for Arma aswell. Didn´t think that the RAM speed actually would have that much influence on performance, but it obviously has.

    OUT OF MEMORY CTD

Make sure you have proper airflow over RAM and Gfx card aswell. Arma seems to stress components at times and adding an additional case fan or an extra fan for the RAM solved it for most users with heat issues. Most users didn´t believe they had heat issues, still when they removed the side panel of their case and tested with a fan it solved it for most of them.

    Queen's Gambit goes gold!!!

I would have agreed with you prior testing Arma at their offices in Munich and seeing how much enthusiasm some of them have/had for the game. Petra is an oldtime OFP-maniac and we spent quite some time debating Arma. At no point I had the impression that they are trying to bring down the product. After playtesting Arma at their offices I understood why they were so dissapointed. It was crap at 1.0. Hardly playable and filled with bugs. A rating of 77 % at that time was more a present than a punishment. Now if they rate QG with 77% aswell, they will have their reasons and I guess we will all see when the product is released. I don´t expect very much from QG apart from new campaigns and new island. Fair trade for the price, but still not sufficient until 1.09 patch really fixes some serious stuff in Arma. Else Arma is finally toast. Even for me.

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

Maybe he got a mistaken radio transmission into his in-ear-guidance system implanted by Cheney ? Or maybe an effect of his cocain abuse ? Or a sideeffect of his alcoholism ? Or maybe he´s just stupid. Maybe the US are about to finish off Mandela and he tooted the press message just one tad too early. Other news: Cheney mulled luring Iran into war with Israel: report Anyone surprised ? These criminals are more dangerous than anyone else. This is what I call warmongering and state - terrorism at it´s best. They should be held accountable and hung like Saddam. They are not better in any way.

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

If you can read some german you´ll find lots of info on the program here in germany. Actually farmers are always very sceptical about new technologies, but as it is now you will find hardly a farmroof in the south of germany without photovoltaic cells on it, as it´s a very good deal financially. You even get cheap loan money for such projects and the guaranteed price of selling the electricity makes it a no-risk deal. You definately have to check Brit programs on that though. Afaik germany´s government is leading in encouring people on a financial side to build such installations. That´s why I said earlier that there is no universal solution for producing alternative energy. BTW, you mention coal-plants. Seriously, coal power plants are the most polluting things one can think of. I´ve talked to a guy who works at a big one near Cottbus and it consumes 18000 rail-wagons of coal per day. The growing demand from china for coal will end the natural reserves pretty fast apart from the rising price for it. Natural ressources are limited and if the world keeps evolving in it´s energy needs like it has done over the last 20 years, the day 0 will be there sooner than you think. Getting closer to that day you´ll find out that prices for natural ressources will rise extremely and therefore prices for electricity produced with those antiques will also rise , like they did over the last years, while price for alternative energy sources will drop the more are produced. I think there is a basic flaw in your assumptions. You have to look on the global power market and ressource trading to get the idea. The UK alone may be well off with UK coal but the problem is that it isn´t stored there, but sold abroad into a growing market of demanding customers. I also think that some investment has to pay off and create profit, but making this the only reason for decisions is very narrow minded, especially if you keep in mind that predictions for 10 or 20 years are very hard at the moment with exploding asian growth. Edit: I´m in a hurry now. Need to waste some gasoline to get to The Police concert in Munich.

    BIS - Mission PROTECTION

I guess there was a thread about this in the mission editing section a while ago and the results were basically the same as here. Some people would like to have a method to crypt the missions while others don´t. I also would be happy to have a crypt function as a lot of things are stolen without any mentioning of initial author. Imo there is a difference between Arma com and OFP com. People do not even feel the need to do proper credits and furthermore promote that as their own stuff. This has happened with missions and addons so far. Though I think it´s unlikely BIS will implement such.

    Rotating moon?

supershooter is right, the moon rotates at some point and it looks very odd. I have experienced the same. The more you get the moon out of focus it seems to turn on a elliptic path around itself.

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

My bad, was at work yesterday. My output is 27000 kWh per anno, The segmented output (per string of modules) is ~ 30 Kwp. I have 4 strings a 9 modules. One string produces 7,74 KWp. And yes, I know what my cheque says. That´s actually the only thing I really care about. I have the calculations here on the table up to year 2026: Total raw income minus insurance and maintenance costs with keeping the degrading factor of panels is mind: 245.965 Euro including tax plus 94.887 Euro from the bank on the money with a 3% rate That makes a total of 340.852 Euro generated up to the year 2026 This calculation includes a 2% rise in maintenance costs yearly and the 300 Euros per year for insurance. I guess it would be best if you contact a vendor or a person at your local energy office to see what you can get from a comparable plant in the UK. On a sidenote: I am living quite well. I have two houses, 3 cars, one for me, one for my partner and one for fun only, I go on holidays for a total of 1.5 months per year, preferably to asia and indonesia for diving, we happen to go out for dinner at least twice a week, I like to buy nice watches from time to time and I´m following my plan to be finished with working at the age of 48. For me that sounds like a plan. BTW, Belgian chocolate is overrated Try it with Zotter chocolate from Austria, they have some really addicitive stuff like chilli chocolate, Grammelnussen, etc. I guess we are already leading the thread a bit offtopic Baff1, so maybe we can get it on via PM incase you got further questions.

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

Even sooner as I can cut my tax in relation to the investment aswell. I do see nothing wrong with having 12.000 Euro added to my bankaccount for the next 20 years in comparison to have 45.000 Euro on the bank that would certainly not create a total of raw 240.000 plus bank benefit of around another 16.000 Euro within 20 years. I don´t have to pay taxes on the money I earn with the installation as it´s around 3000 Euro below the limit for companies. That seems to be pretty high. Unless your money goes into high risk deals that always pose the risk to loose your money and leave you with a debt aswell I couldn´t think of a low-risk investment that would grant you a reward of 30-40 percent annual. Besides that. I am producing green-energy. Not such a bad thing imo.

They look pretty solid and just in case some get damaged due to heavy weather or a tree falling on the roof or such, I have an insurance for them.

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

From what I know germany has the most advanced program for broad use of photovoltaic systems in europe and they did a lot to get people install those or buy shares of bigger installations in case they have no own roof at hand. The guarenteed price for selling the electricity is the crucial factor. I don´t know if you have comparable programs in the UK but if you have, I would contact offices to see what you can get. About your questions : Here´s the breakdown - 36 modules Sanyo HIP 215 32.976 Euro - 2 Transformers (Wechselrichter, dunno engl Expr.) 3020 Euro - Montage material (Alu-rails, cables, screws, etc) 1374,66 Euro Delivery included. I got 12 modules per row and 3 rows overall. The montage itself is pretty simple and the energy provider does the connection for feeding electricity into public net.

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

The electricity generated is sold 100 percent as I get more money for sold electricity than I pay for electricity ( 100.000 roof program in germany). I can give you the numbers for the last year: Produced electricity: 3628 KWh Received money: 12.749 Euro Insurance and costs for maintenance are already included. On a sidenote: As I operate as a "company" when selling the electricity I can claim 5% of the price I paid for the installation for an annual tax-cut for the next 20 years.

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

~ 45.000 Euro I sell the power generated at a guaranteed price of 0,51 Euro per KWh for the next 20 years. As the energy prices are rising rapidly here in germany it´s a win-situation in any case. Over the last 5 years the cost for electricity in germany have risen about a total of 15 - 20 percent. This upward trend will continue, keeping in mind the international demand for energy and the monopolistic structures of european energy providers. BTW, a 46 square meters installation is quite small for the region I live in. Most farmers have covered their big stable roofs with installations exceeding sizes of 100 - 150 square meters and even more. Not really. Do the maths.

Wind Turbines For or against & why?

Nice one My 36 panel photovoltaic installation produces 7,74 kWp. Each panel creates 215 Watt @ 42 Volt with 5,13 Ampere The size of the complete installation is 46 square meters. I guess you might want to check your "sources" again pls.

Sensor view on russian attack copter

I guess the only reason why it doesn´t work in Arma is the lack of a free mouseaim in Arma as a result of the port from OFP Elite Xbox to PC version of Arma. There have been numerous complaints about the downsides of this and even a BTS request that got 27 votes but no reaction from BIS at all. Mouse autocentering As a sideeffect of this method of steering the free aim for the Kamov got lost. It was possible in OFP.

    The Iraq thread 4

I don´t. There have been a lot of confirmed incidents with Blackwater over the last years and none of them has ever been held accountable for the wrongdoings as a US imposed law for the transitional government in Iraq hindered prosecution. Now that there is no transitional government anymore this law has become obsolete and obviously the iraqui government is demanding what every other government would be demanding aswell. Punish those who commit crimes in the country where the crimes are committed. The fact that Blackwater is not employed by the US military but the State departement is another interesting thing as this changes their legal status on behalf of US jurisdiction aswell. The Blackwater incident in Baghdad, 2007: excerpts from an interview with Jeremy Scahill 9/19/07 The US claim for investigations conducted by them is more than ridiculous looking at the results they have produced so far in other cases. The most prominent examples: Haditha Massacre Abu Ghuraib

    Proper Urban Envirenments

Hmmm... speaking as someone who does not have an ultraequipped computer I would say that it indeed would be very ressource hungry to set up a city consisting of hundreds of houses. The fact that Arma streams the terrain does little here as the densitiy of textured objects would be very high in such an environment and therefore the program would be constantly loading textures whenever you move or change the direction you´re looking to. This is indeed very ressource consuming as the amount of data would be very high. I do already experience texture-loading delays in the Arma villages and towns at some point. The texture memory is filled up and the method implemented to clear the texture memory seems to be a bit flawed. It results in delays ( buildings look untextured for some moments). I guess this is a remain of the old OFP and Elite engine that are not that optimized to handle large amounts of texture data. It works up to a point, but if you have lots of movement going on you will at one point see a game-slowdown and delays in texture loading as the memory of the gfx card gets filled up. Unless the texture loading and storage system in Arma gets a renovation I am sceptical about the ingame performance within towns with hundreds of buildings.

    To eliminate ArmA hackers

A large part of internet connections do not have a static IP, so it wouldn´t do much to them as the reconnect and have a fresh IP.
  25. I can also confirm the bug. Happens regularely with a 2 man team who are supposed to patrol a placed sandbag-fence in safe-mode. Sooner or later one of the men gets stuck in the open for no reason. At some point he starts to turn on the spot and keeps turning forever.
