Omg. Greetings Bals ! AkA Balsi.

Cool, another one running around with a brick in front of his head. How about reading the announcement for patch 1.09 ? I know it´s too hard to search or browse the pages if you can go just for a fullscale bash, right ? QG was never ever announced with a patch. It´s a freaking expansion ! The 1.09 patch is already on the way for ALL users, not just the QG users. I would like to see the reactions if QG was accompanied by a patch that others without QG couldn´t install... "Oh , why do BIS do that shit and only allow QG players to patch their games ! This stinks ! They only want to make money and force us to buy QG just for the patch !" Self explanatory.... For some. For others not. Period.

One moment please. We´re not talking about proven guilty terrorists that are/were exposed to US torture but suspects. A lot of that suspects have already been released as they simply did nothing wrong, so even torture did not make them guilty. It has been preemptive torture at best. Apart from that what do you get by torturing ? Do you actually believe that you will get a lot of substantial intel with torture ? If you do it widespread, maybe, but most of the US prisoners at Gitmo were not affiliated with AQ nor did they have anything to tell as they didn´t know anything. Still, they were preemptively tortured. If there is anything that a government should do, it´s to set up strict rules and enforce them. Bush and his gang created the grey areas and we know about the results already. it goes down to the lowest rank with a policy like this as everyone still can claim: "Uhm, I thought it´s ok to do this and that, as my boss, the president, told me that it´s not really wrong if the purpose is right." Sorry, but the line has to be drawn somewhere and overriding a congressional decision and reinstalling torture in the shadows is nothing a government anywhere should be allowed to do as it is acting against the democratic will and the legal boundaries even they have to move within. There is no "little-torture". It´s either the USA is a country where torture is legal or it´s illegal. There is no grey area. At least there shouldn´t be one. The directives are dead-end clear and searching for a workaround is nothing but illegal.

Exploding head when hit with a m24/m107
Balschoiw replied to DS75's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Oh yes, this would be so kewl ! And we need blood fountains and guts and we need knives to cut of heads and such just for the FUN we will have slaughtering around. Uh... wait and we need simulated waterboarding and ripping out fingernails, not to forget the egg-crusher and electro-cables for the sake of FUN ! Seriously, no I do not need such in a computergame. -
Imo it is among the biggest flaws on the Arma-list and I can certainly agree with you 100 percent as I feel exactly the same way whenever I enter a vehicle. The controls for keyboard+mouse are simply broken, no matter what the technical mumbo-jumbo behind all this may be. For me it´s broken and it makes flying+driving a pain in th a**. Of course it´s cool to have new support for TrackIR and such but seriously, how many Arma users do have such an expensive system in use ? I guess this doesn´t justify the limitations for the majority of Arma players who don´t own such. I had hopes that BIS would actually fix that or offer an alternative, selectable in options, but now that Suma has stated that it most likely will not be fixed at all with Arma and only possibly with Arma 2 I have lost a big part of my trust in BIS. It´s a big problem, it makes the game hard to interact with and it´s taking away a lot of fun and on the other hand creates a lot of frustration. I would have hoped for a more convinient solution than the one offered by BIS for now and I guess I´m not alone.

No, but I also owned a Ti 99 4A after I had my fun with a Sinclair ZX81 This seems to be ages ago. Well, I guess it IS ages ago -
NATO forces are already operating outside their remit. Invoking Article 5 right after 9/11 and operating under the umbrella of an UN mandate there is no problem at all for NATO forces to operate outside their usual remit. Ghandi is a symbol for non-violent resistance that actually removed an oppressing government. That´s why I posted him in here just to demonstrate that it does work. If you are looking for more recent examples take Belarus. I am engaging my brain and I´m not trying to make a living of nitpicking about something that isn´t even related to the the issue at hand. That´s your turn, as it has always been. That´s what they actually do. Taking protests to the streets in large numbers is already a part of revolution. If there is a tool to change something in that country, it´s diplomacy. This is simply nonsense, because: 1. There will never be an UN decision to send in military forces (China and Russia will veto as they already softened the UN condemnation of violent acts against civillians in Myanmar) 2. There are no military capabilities of intervening in Myanmar as a lot of forces with significant capabilities are bound in Afghanistan and other hotspots already 3. There is no concept at all on how to interfere in that country with that huge landmass and varieties in terrain and landscape 4. China is having a military base there already and is planning to build a submarine installation in the country 5. Russia is in strong support for Myanmar despite the oppressing regime, as it´s the number 1 weapon dealer for them directly followed by China 6. China will never accept the presence of armed military western forces at their borders and at their installations in Myanmar. I actually wonder if you read my replies. It´s all in there. You just can´t pull a magic rabbit from your hat if your hat is empty and has holes.

FDF is ontop of my list aswell, just for the great variety and uniqueness they offered with FDF mod for OFP. It would be interesting to know about their status. If they are in need of mission-editors, I´m in

No, but I judge situations by facts, not wishfull thinking. Myanmar is 676.600 square kilometers wide, terrain ranging from swamps to high hills. There is simply NO WAY to interfere on a military level without a combined force of at least 1.000.000 men under arms for an unknown period of time. Myanmar has approximately 400.000 soldiers in it´s service and they are coordinated quite well, They dominate civil life and they are woven into the civil structures. You punish the military, the people will suffer even harder. Along with this China is already in the country and is running a military installation there. Western interference in this region will cause serious problems with china aswell along with the russians who are the top-dealer for their arms. Do you really believe China would accept a large occupational army in it´s neighbouring country that it´s allied with ? That´s a bit naive. if there is any pressure that can be applied to the military it has to come from it´s allies, in this case from china and russia. The movement has to come from the people within. Who cares ? Should we dig up some quotes from your beloved leaders ? So what are your suggestions ? Reasonable ones pls, not some science fiction comparison with a country that is 45 times smaller and totally different in society, culture, military and politics.

Thx for sharing. Reading through it I felt like sitting in a time-machine -
No ? You know this man and what he achieved with non-violent protest ?

Anything usefull to say, or just having a mainbrain collapse ?

No, I guess you have missed the basics here. Myanmar: 676.600 km² East Timor: 15.000 km² Cough. No. While Iraq was already down on it´s knees military - wise the military in Myanmar is pretty lively and well woven into the civil population. The are no parallels between Iraq and Myanmar in any way. Best you can think of is some kind of Vietnam scenario and from what we know the US failed there aswell. Apart from that the US do not have any capabilities to lead any additional war of that caliber today. Haha, good one. As if they are happy to be slaughtered by all participants in this hunt for the WMD´s. Just keep this bullshit out of here as you will end up with your pants nailed to the ceiling if you keep spreading such nonsense. The iraqui people didn´t invite US Sam to free them, they were bombed to bits and are still shot by gungho freaks from all sides. It´s about interests and you seem to forget that the USA are a part of NATO and if they get attacked in a "Defend Taiwan" scenario there will be NATO support if asked for. Google up some info on the building tensions. This is nothig locally limited, it´s a serious issue that seems to be getting out of hands. If you check latest chinese remarks on the issue and the taiwanese movement to get a single seat at the UN you may get the bigger picture. Taiwan today is a very powerfull province of china and they will never let them get away freely. On the other hand we have the rest of the world who largely depend on taiwanese products and the US who uparmoured the country. You get the idea what will happen if the ball starts rolling.

unitName action ["ENGINEON", vehicleName]
Balschoiw replied to CarlGustaffa's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I´m not sure if that is fixed already (crew bailed out if no fuel is in vehicle). If it´s fixed already you can use nameofvehicle setfuel 0 in activation trigger or wp Onactivation line and nameofvehicle setfuel 1 when you want them to turn on the engine again. -
It´s not stupid as China and Russia are the ones who are interested in a stable Birma. So they are the number 1 countries who have influence on what is going on in Birma. China, with the background of the olympic games, have to move in certain areas or the games will be boycotted by a number of countries and as they are so eagerly trying to boost their PR values across the world, they will take the chance to brighten their image. Referencing Chinas own record in mistreating people is obsolete in this case as it´s a matter of diplomacy and not a matter of nations who have a clean record on their own. If this would be the case there would be very few nations left that are actually allowed to comment or influence what´s going on in Birma. The US, Russia and several other countries would not be on the list aswell... On the crisis itself: It bottoms down to the basics. If the people in Birma want to get rid of the military junta they have to get rid of them on their own in the first place. Any foreign interference will only make it harder for them and we have learned that you don´t get rid of regimes with foreign troops as long as a big part of the country is under their influence and there are people who benefit from the military regime. All that messing with resistance forces and replacement wars that have been fought over the last 40 years only showed that it doesn´t work that way, even if some stubborn, uneducated and prophetic narcoleptic from the White House still tries to sell the story the other way round. You only build new foes and loose those who you claim to protect or support. On a sidenote. I guess there´s a real threat to world peace today as the conflict China<->Taiwan seems to gain momentum as we speak. The place where it will get dirty for all of us will be the Taiwanese seastreet as there are currently big tensions going on and a preemptive attack from China will most likely catapult us into WW3.

Update on the mouse autocentre "feature" that is bogging alot of Arma players. Suma commented on the BTS issue: One of the biggest showstoppers in vehicle controls will not be adressed. Me not happy.

Thx for the tip Shadow. Unfortuanlly it also didn´t change anything. As I had replaced my old 400 Watt PSU last week with a BeQuiet 400 Watt PSU I decided to check if the PSU could be the cause and changed it again. I replaced it with my old one and one of the 2 DVD drives came back to life, while the other one still refuses to work under Windows. Maybe the IDE cable has some damage. I will try to find a replacement and report back again. This is all very weird. Why should it refuse to work with a PSU with the same output ?

Thx for info on your hardware Opteryx. I´m curious how it will run on my system Keep it up and take your time.

There are several scripts out that should be helping you with your intentions. Check out Mando Heliroute or other ones posted in Adons&Mods. I guess there was at least one more that gave you perfect control over helos, but I don´t remember the name right now. Edit: A quick search came up with Improved helo AI thread aswell. -
Here we go: Blackwater faulted in U.S. military reports: paper Firing grenade launchers into a crowd without being attacked is a must-have. No ? It´s so funny that the US now had to change the legal status of the mercenaries to be able to even hold them accountable for what they are doing. Seriously, what kind of fuckup is that ? Up to now they were able to run and gun without having to fear ANY consequences worldwide. And it seems they had their joy with the freedom they were given... As there are currently running at least 4 different investigations on the Blackwater incident, I am kind of curious what the outcome will be. Place your bets: - FBI investigation - Pentagon investigation - State department investigation - Joint US-Iraqui investigation I guess in the end they will conclude that there is no direct misbehaviour of Blackwater, but only the wrongdoings of a few... Not that we haven´t heard that quite some times already with a number of other "investigations" that mostly ended with foul compromises or murders going out of the court with their head up high while some of the pack will get a slap.

Can you release a separate script-only version aswell ? I´m no big fan of countless addons that come along with missions and are sometimes only used for 1 or 2 missions. If we can attach the script(s) to missions and call it in the init.sqs I´d see big useage for mission editors.

Quick question: What are your system specs Opteryx ? I know you have a 8800 GTS, but the rest ? I guess it will be a big texture-lagfest for people with midend or lowend computers. Just make sure you already have some sandbags and concrete built around your house once it´s released and people find out that they can´t use it Apart from that, I love what you´re doing ! (Even if I will most likely end up among the guys throwing empty cans at your window as I only have a 7600 GT AGP and and a rusty Athlon XP 3000+ with 2 Gig´s of GEIL Ram in my trousers)
