Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced
Balschoiw replied to imported_bör's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Hmm maybe the working title for the game is "Gorrilaz in the mist" ? -
I guess Stalker just had it right. The guys simply spoke russian and whenever it was of interest for the player they tried to help him out in broken english. This made the whole surrounding credible. As with Arma 2. I don´t see much of a problem here as stringtables already are in different languages so everyone can read important things as subtitle in his own language. This also goes for spoken commands or unit interaction while conducting regular duty. The voicesets should be in the original spoken language while the subtitles are in your language that you have selected either in your options or is set by default with the localized version you bought. I guess I´m not the only one who chose a finnish player voice while playing FDF mod. It made it more realistic and it was actually fun to learn finnish a bit

This is very easy to implement and I already have a working solution on my hd for my missions. They taunt, scream, call for medic, react on buddies deaths, react on grenades, etc. This definately should be in Arma 2 and I already missed it with Arma 1. I simply couldn´t understand why they didn´t implement it by default as it´s , as I said already, a very easy thing to do. One thing I really would like to see is proper voice acting in Arma 2. Arma 1 failed badly with the staccato sentences they used and using one language only for all factions is very cheap but also lame. I hope they choose at least 2 different languages for the voicesets and make those sets available for scripting. As it is with Arma you can´t use the sounds from speakers. What I really hate about Arma is that they all speak the same english language. If you sneak through a town and hear enemy commands around the corner in the same language as yours it simply sounds stupid and unrealistic. Audio imo makes a big chunk of a good game. Arma simply fails here. I hope they have learned from that and add a bit more atmosphere and reality in this section. They also should get rid of the unnatural sentence composition Arma uses. It sounds odd.

Thx for this excellent release Goeth ! As for the comments... Get real and don´t compare your hollywood knowledge or YouTube recordings to the sound you actaully hear on the scene. It takes quite some hardware to accurately record sounds irl and an inbuilt condenser mic in a videocam doesn´t do this right, period. If you really want to keep it realistic you should all cry for all muffled sounds as you would be wearing earplugs...

From what we know it is already being tested.

Arma mission makers, how much do you play?
Balschoiw replied to Tankbuster's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I guess the wish to have map symbols actually representing the real size and dimensions of an object go way back to OFP but I assume it would really take some serious time to implement it that way. I got used to it at some point and can live with it. Thank god there´s copy/paste, especially for creating long fences and installations. I also tend to create presets for checkpoints, firing positions or other things that I can simply copy/paste into new maps. This saves a lot of time. -
Arma mission makers, how much do you play?
Balschoiw replied to Tankbuster's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Whenever I play Arma right now I end up playtesting my own missions. I always get lost while doing so. I want to finish editing on that missions but than I once more end up playing them until I realize that it has become terribly late. -
So ? I guess there´s little to loose and lots to gain. Once the people will stop dying, being driven from their land, hunted by governmental attack helos or foreign camel-militia and find out that the foreign troop presence is a direct benefit for their life it´s the time when new friends are made. Who´s business is it ? The business of a starved population or the business of ethnic cleaners ? According to your approach europe and big chunks of the african continent plus eastern europe and more would have the swastika as their national flag and the jews would have been erradicated. While I do agree that foreign military influence should be thought about better twice than once I guess it´s clear that once an ongoing genocide is happening and diplomacy can achieve nothing it´s about time to think about the hard way and conduct operations to stop it. This is what the UN troops are for.
-
That´s part of the problem as western military forces are really stretched thin atm because of the engagements in Afghanistan, the Balkans, Lebanon and Iraq. Apart from that I guess public support would be low keeping in mind what reasons some staged for a war in Iraq. Why should they believe them this time. Fucked up situation. Iran is different piece of paper though as they are quite an opponent and the border to Iraq doesn´t make it any easier. The US actually managed to limit themselves by starting this incredibly stupid war down there.

The only tourism in Sudan I can think of right now comes in with tanks, helos and infantry weapons. It´s about time those mass murderers get dealt with. We´ve all been watching the show long enough. It´s about time the ball gets rolling and this bloodthirsty regime gets toppled. Bodycountwise they are responsible for far more deaths than Saddam has ever been, but still the value of the country itself seem to be the hindering reason number 1 to get some serious force involved there. The recent acceptance of AU-UN forces in Sudan means very little to me. Not that I´m saying that they are not motivated, but I don´t think they are the right ones for the job right now. I guess it would be best to send in western forces first to do the tricky part and then have the peacekeeping done by AU-UN units. Just my thoughts though. From what I have experienced AU units have a problem dealing the hard way with "brothers" and that´s a problem here. This is just meant to be a sidenote on the situation in Sudan, unrelated to the incident at hand. I stills tnad by my point. It´s her own fault. She´s been teaching kids there, so she should have been aware that there is a religion called Islam that prohibits the useage of Muhammads name in many , many ways. That´s the basics. Edit: Short glimpse on the obstacles Sudan prepared for a UN-AU force here Imo there´s already been enough talking for years now and to be honest Sudan doesnt act especially smart when trying to hinder the UN-AU force with methods and regulations that are simply mad. It shouldn´t be too hard to get this sorted the hard way if necessary.

No, because it´s irrelevant for this thread. Doh...

Noone is asking for a change in the flight dynamics or joystick interface, we are just asking for the removal of the unrealistic and uncontributative autocentre feature when using mouse+keyboard that makes steering an airframe or ground vehicle a joke.
-
If one is trying to work in a foreign country he/she has to be aware of the rules and laws there. The name "Muhammad" is a critical one as there are coming a lot of regulations and limitations with the use of that word. I´m not surprised about the verdict. She should have known that there is little flexibility coming along with the use of the name "Muhammad". The outcry coming from various sides is just fishing for PR. It´s her own fault.

Noone here is asking for an uber-realistic flight model. Arma is not a sim, it´s an arcade-sim mixture. I am using my omg freaking mouse-keyboard because I don´t use Arma as a flightsim purely and it would mean to shove around things on my desk whenever I exit a vehicle. It´s for pure playability reason to have one controller for multirole units ingame. It worked for OFP, but in Arma it fails badly because of the known bugs and limitations. Or do you guide your infantry units with joystick ? My joystick setup is for flightsims as my wheel setup is for driving games. If I start up such game I get my desk preparations ready before I start the game. Switching between all those input devices during gaming is impossible and not even working as Arma doesn´t support it right now. If you are permantly using your joystick, hurrah ! But you shouldn´t try to force that on other players who do not favour changing their controller all the time. Fact is that the steering should be possible with all supported embedded controllers. Fact is that Arma fails here. Fact is that noone should be forced to buy a joystick just because BIS fails to implement a method of steering that was working perfectly ok in OFP as the stick position was permanently bound to mouse position. This does not mean that the vehicle goes where the mouse points to, that´s utter nonsense. In fact the mouseposition was directly guiding the stick without any reset or autocenter bullshit that set the rudders back to zero whenever there was no input for a while. That method of steering was infact much more fluid than what we have today and all those who say that that´s not true are simply not having their facts straight. Go into editor, fire up a camel and you´ll see that it´s not consistant steering, but impulse steering which is total nonsense as it doesn´t work like that in real life aswell, not to speak of the whacko flightpath you get in Arma. It kept the stick´s direction where it was set to and had no magic autocenter gadget that no real airframe has. Watch the tailfin of the camel inflight with mouse-keyboard and come in again. Oh what a great suggestion. If you had read the thread you´d realize that we are specifically talking about the deficits when playing with mouse and keyboard and as long as BIS totally forbids the use of mouse-keyboard we have every right to complain about the way it is implemented and supported. Your wannabe-elitist joystick-talk is not of any interest here. It´s about fixing the current control method and giving back direct control over the airframe to users that simply DO NOT WANT to use a joystick or DO NOT HAVE a joystick. It was perfectly working in OFP, so we are not asking for some kind of revolutionary developement, but a fix for the current control-method. So please troll on... It didn´t work like that in OFP aswell and noone is asking for such. We only ask for a persistant mouse-stick relation without forced autocentre-reset that doesn´t allow to fly constant pathways for exactly that reason. Not more, not less. So @ all of you happy joystick flyers: I appreciate that it´s so much fun flying with joystick, but that´s no solution for the mouse-keyboard issues that Arma users have because of the whacky autocentre feature and autoreset feature, BIS implemented for whatever reasons. We are not asking for your flightskills with joysticks, we are trying to point out the obvious deficits and bugs with mouse-keyboard. Is that so hard to understand ? If you do not support a change of that controller mechanisms, simply don´t post as it´s not interesting how well you can control your airframe with joysticks, pedals, whatever. On a sidenote: You all must be perfectly happy that you have lost control over guideable onboard weaponary aswell than, e.g. the Kamov onboard gun. It is rendered immobile in Arma because of the new limitiations introduced by BIS, while it was working as supposed in OFP. I do see Evolution, but I can´t see how scrapping features can be assumed Evolution while it´s infact degrading features. Next, do you use ground vehicles ? Have you ever noticed how funny they are to steer now with the autocentre thing ? No ? You don´t see that the way it was handled in OFP was much, much more fluid and consistant as your wheel didn´t reset all the time but stayed in the direction you put it. You don´t see that as a flaw or even bug ? It´s about mouse-keyboard controller mechanisms !

Maybe it takes wave height into consideration
-
Try this: Fly in some height with any helo push your nose down. It will magically come up again after a while. One could argue that that´s a matter of speed ration lifting up the collective, but that´s not true. It´s the funny Arma autocentre. Push it further. Now we want to circle above the target, something that was incredibly ok with OFP and is a vital part of helo assistance in real life. In Arma you have to constantly push the mouse to be able to get anything comparable to an ellipsoid, a circle is totally out of question with mouse and keyboard anyway. We´re talking about very basic helo-stuff here, not some fancy RC stuff shot. Without constantly moving your mouse you are not able to send your helo into a simple curve as the direction vector from input is simply resetted regularely if you use mouse+keyboard, not speaking about the funny look of that sort of flying. It´s simply wrecked as it is. Do yourself a favour and try to do a circling maneuver in OFP and than come back and tell us that it´s perfectly ok in Arma. It´s not, it´s a huge deficit, one among other huge deficits that came with Arma and all we got up to now was the remark from Suma on the BTS that they will most likely try to embedd something different in Arma 2. Thank you very much. That´s what we were really waiting for.
-
Ah I see. So the real helicopters also do reset their stick constantly ? Quite interesting. I thought that once you press the stick in a direction it would stay there. Thx for clearing that up.

For anyone who´s into remixing or producing stuff this might be interesting. Nine Inch Nails have released the studio masters of their last album for Ableton Live, Garageband and RAW for remixing projects that you can upload to their page once they are done. The only thing you have to do is sign up at NiN Remix page and you can download the tracks in studio format for editing in one of the above mentioned programs. I´m already working on some tracks and I´ll keep you updated once they are listed on the page. I´ve been thinking of a Brazil-version of Perfect Drug...or maybe some Sithars ? Edit: Of course you can download all remixes for free at the page aswell.
-
Actually not, as it´s the way mouse + keyboard control fro Arma is implemented. The virtual mouse input position resets to 0. In OFP the method was very different as the position of the mousecursor was not set to zero position all the time, which mean that the steering was consistant, while in Arma you have to use impulse steering, constantly moving the mouse into the direction you want to drive or fly to. Even with this the result is very clumsy and not satisfying at all as it is impossible to do consistant curves or turns with keyboard and mouse. If you tell us now that it´s perfectly possible you´re telling bullshit as it´s the method of input that simply doesn´t allow such things. Yeah...from left to right and into the ground... Compare the method of control with OFP and come in again.

Why don´t you delete the mines prior you send in your guys with a trigger covering the minefield and list the trigger detecting the mines and delete the mines ?
-
No ? He does get artefacts which indeed indicates that he has got a temperature problem. There have been a lot of people here who were able to run other games with no problems but Arma pushed their hardware to the limits and they had heat problems. It ranged from inproper case-cooling to bad standard fans or missing heatlube on Gfx cards or overclocked cards. It´s not that I´m pulling things from my anus, it´s just that I have seen quite a number of users here with comparable problems who were able to improve it by keeping all of the above in mind and even added some additional or better cooling systems to their computers and/or gfx-cards.
-
That is already too high. Keep in mind that temp-sensors are not very precise and you are more likely already having temperatures around 90 ° which is getting into the "I want to destroy my gfx-card" - zone. I assume you have overclocked your card or something is going really wrong with your gfx-fan. If you have such temps at your gfx-cpu i don´t want to know how hot your GFX-Ram modules get. V-Sync just synchronises vertical movement of the picture display with new data input for picture display. The reason why to deactivate V-Sync with Arma is that most of the times the gfx-card takes longer time to calculate the new picture than the monitor needs to display it. This results in glitches. It has nothing to do with your default or custom set framerate that you mention. That´s a completely different thing.

Duh I guess Kazakstan and Andorra will terminate England Sorry dudes, but right now it´s not easy not to make jokes of the english team

It´s a matter of fact that OFP´s input on vehicle controls was much more fluid and consistant compared to Arma´s input scheme. It´s a matter of the technique used by BIS. If you like it, great, but the majority of Arma users seem to have problems with the new input mechanism as it´s not consistant, not fluid and relies on impulse steering with autocentre instead of fluid vector control that doesn´t force you to constantly repeat your inputs. Furthermore the "new" control scheme is responsible for loosing control of onboard cannons, like in the Kamov, something that was perfectly working in OFP now is not working in Arma because of that "invention". I personally think that BIS just ported over the X-Box controls to Arma and therefore we are facing that issues.
