Definately Motherboard Asus A7V600-X Latest Bios revision Chipset: Nortbridge : VIA VT 8377 Apollo KT600 Southbridge: VIA VT 8237 Drivetype: IDE Western Digital Corporation 2000JB-00GVA0 200 GB S.M.A.R.T.-Status: No Errors Drive does not make "cluck" noises No OS on this drive, formatted about 1 year ago. Defragged weekly. No, drivers haven´t been upgraded lately. I´m going to open the case and will check cables and Jumper on HD. Additionally I will rewire the drive to the second IDE port and see if that helps. Right as I´m typing this the drive shows up normally with both partitions and no unusual behaviour when accessing data on drive or writing data on drive.

I don´t know anything about producing addons but in my understanding it makes more sense to use the effective rate of fire than using a theoretical value that would destroy the weapon given that you had indefinate ammo feed and would be impractible as the weight of the ammo you´d had to carry using such rof would exceed most infantry and vehicle capacities. I see the problems though and I understand your reasoning about implementation in Arma. I only do see such things from an operator perspective and not from the perspective of an addon creator. Cheers.

Firing My Gun Question...
Balschoiw replied to kocrachon's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Use event handler fired Eventhandlers -
I know the difference. Cyclic rof is only a theoretical rof that can never be achieved irl and has no relevance for Arma ingame settings as only realistic rof´s make sense in a game that portrays the useage of weapons under real-life conditions. Realistic ROF for the Mk19 is 60 rpm while a rate of 40 is suggested to avoid problems. As the Mk19 is very vulnerable to disfunction the 40 rpm has been found most effective when operating the weapon.
-
The Mk19 only has a rate of 60 shots per minute in rapid-fire mode and 40 shots per minute in sustained mode.
-
Vehicle mounted grenade weapons should hardly produce the recoil we see in Arma. The mass effect on the vehicle is simply too low to move it. Additionally to this BIS should remove the smoke that is shown when firing a 40mm weapon of any kind. There is hardly any noticeable smoke when firing such a weapon IRL. Additionally there should be a realistic tracer system embedded for the automatic launchers. This won´t really help you much as you only have a magazine size of 32 beltfed projectiles per box. That´s why the gun is hardly ever used in auto mode as it´s ammo would be depleted within 5 seconds.

Hello hardware gurus. I have a problem that arose yesterday. I have two harddrives in my computer. One is for the OS and programs and the second one is purely for storing data. The storage harddrive is making making problems now. When in BIOS the drive is recognized correctly, but when I load windows the drive is not visible anymore and cannot be accessed, while sometimes the HDD activity LED is permanently lit. I have to add that the drive is not making irregular noises and when I reboot windows the drive sometimes shows up without any problems. I ran HDD regenerator in DOS to check the drive for bad sectors without a result. The drive seems to be physically ok. What could be the reason for this odd behaviour and how can I fix it ? My operating system is Windows XP.

@TU_Gokhan: I was also quite baffled to read the "facist" comments, but it only shows that the posters who used this expression simply don´t have the slightest clue of the meaning of this word and have been absent during their history lessons. The flaming of that kind should have certainly been interrupted by a moderator and the guys in question should have received a warning from a mod as namecalling is a nono here on the forums for a very, very long time. On the name subject: I guess people usually are having problems with understanding such delicate issues. While in the US or elsewhere noone really gives much about such, the people who live in the region or are having a history of violence with such region will certainly see things different. For non-turkish members this is probably hard to understand. Still, this is a fictional game about fictional conflicts and therefore people will always develop or create their places and units or missions of interest. If there is a true relevance in reality is secondary. I can remember US guys going berserk when a guy posted Arma videos on youtube that showed reenacted or fictional IED attacks on US personel or vehicles in Iraq. At that time they were the ones who got offensive and didn´t think for one second that it is a fictional game. I guess this shows best that there´s always a point of view for such issues. While those who felt grown-up when using the facist expressions certainly didn´t even try to understand the matter and most probably don´t even have the slightest idea of the conflict, those who stand on the other side of the Taurus and Zagros mountains and have to live with regular attacks from PKK will certainly have a different set of experiences and opinions on that matter. Still, matters like this should be viewed relaxed. In the end it´s a computer game open for anyone who wants to reenact anything, anywhere, anyhow. If someone wants to build gas-chambers in Arma and reenact KZ-life the only thing that will stop him is when people show their opposition and don´t use that stuff. I don´t see such motivation behind this project. It´s simply a name for a region that has been called like that for a really long time. I am sure there is no bigger plan or political message behind it. It´s sad that such discrepancies will most likely prohibit the use of the map for your turkish mod as it would certainly be an addition to your mission scenarios.

moveTo/doMove doesnt work 100%
Balschoiw replied to nullsystems's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
It´s Arma´s movement precision and object avoidance routines that mostly screw the direct pathfinding for AI. This has been objected by a lot of mission editors as it sometimes ruins cutscenes and kills missions where you need to have AI go to a certain spot to either trigger something or interact with special objects or units. Still, it most likely will not be fixed with Arma but only Arma2 -
Writing a complete and crossplattform compatible engine is something companies do and it takes them years. There are free engines like Crystalspace but you have to know more than basic programming to get yourself an output with such engines. There are some mid and low - priced engines that come with a more user-friendly middleware and toolsets. Still , you´ll have to know C++ for most of them. Torque engine I´ve done some VR projects with Quest 3D as it has a graphic interface and is relatively easy to learn and use and supports modern hardware and input methods. If you want to learn more about engines check the Wiki page on game engines

Only works in "Careless" mode though. Would be nice if BIS could alter this for Arma2 and make it simply selectable for every combat mode.

He ! I usually avoid clicking images on the internet. Most of the time it tells me that Mr Ubutu from nigeria has a real great deal for me or the content of my underwear is 40 percent to small for 60 percent of the female population Doh well....me stupid.

That´s why I like that movie so much. It shows the consequences noone really thinks about when talking about war. I remember returning home from a mission when I met girls of my age that had the usual girl-problems. While I was happily grinning to have a toilet with water and I didn´t have to burn my own shit in a barrel with diesel and a beer without sand they had their usual meaningless chitchat. I buzzed in and told them to be happy to be german citizens and value their education and their freedom. I also told them that it´s quite good for them not to be "castrated" and sold along with an ashtray on a market or thrown into a barbed wire fence and walked over by their relatives who would use them as living bridges as females simply are not worth anythig in some countries. Well, you can guess the reactions. I stopped doing such and stopped trying to open some eyes. It´s simply not working. You get used to it at some point. You go abroad - different reality - you come home - different reality. You can´t transport impressions from one place to another. It´s like visiting a different planet. You know how the planet looks, feels, smells and sounds, but when you return home you decide not to tell anyone as such simply is not wanted and most of the people wouldn´t believe it anyway. They feel great when collecting money or waving some transparents but they neither want to get their hands dirty nor do they want to know what is really going on. TV channels have replaced the sense for guilt and responsibility. This has nothing to do with bullshit rhetorics like "We need to get the job done". In fact I could puke if I hear such as it´s a blatant lie in most of the cases and is mostly used by politicians who are sending out men for their very monetary reasons. In my opinion this is portrayed in the movie Warriors very, very well. BBC has done their homework when making this movie. If you are really interested in a military career you should watch it first. Maybe you will have a second thought on your plans after watching it.

I can´t read a thing on that screenshots.

progress bar for defusing bombs
Balschoiw replied to Dramboi's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
There´s certainly a different way, but I would make 3 or 4 jpgs of the evolving progress bar and show them as a ressource via script and a timed delay between the pictures to generate the look of a building bar. -
You can still use a bulletcam made for OFP. Download bulletcam from OFPEC

Tutorials, tips, etc for movie making?
Balschoiw replied to oblisk's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
You might want to use the search option of the forum to get you some answers or you choose the more reasonable approach and download an editing guide that shure answers all of your questions. I suggest you download the Merciless Uber Reference guide for OFP. It will give you an introduction to editing and help you in many, many ways with your problems and questions. Just keep in mind that scripting has changed from sqs to sqf in Arma, but for now that should not be a problem for you as you still can use sqs scripts with Arma. Download Mercyless Uber Reference Guide Don´t get me wrong, your questions are very basic and that´s probably why people are not so eager to answer them as questions of that kind have been answered about 100000 times here. Check the New to Arma editing thread to get further help and documents. Happy editing ! -
I´m not sure if it will really work for your purposes, but there is a little free program out there that lets you redefine your input and swaps keys and mouseinput to your likings. That means you can run it in windows and it will read your input and change it to the desired command. You can swap your mousebuttons this way. I used it for a Director movie as Macromedia director doesn´t make use of the 3rd mouse button. Here is the program: Autohotkey page and free download

This would put Arma 2 on the index in some countries, means that BIS would not be able to sell it it in such countries as Arma would depict excessive gore and violence.
-
I guess the basics are already there in Arma. Take the barrels for example. They react quite naturally to applied force. They roll, tilt over, have weight. For sure a ragdoll system means much more than that, but the basics are already implemented for objects.

I "borrowed" it from the Malayans for the John - Wayne memorial shooting. The APC in the back is also malayan.

Behave. You don´t seem to know me. During one mission we had a prominent boy with us who actually was very motivated but on the other hand very demanding and constantly nagging about the accomodations, the food and the equipment. Apart from that we were especially ordered to take extra care of him as an injury or worse would have had a big impact on all of us due to his dads position. On the other hand we had some pros as we once received a container of fresh food and had the chance to leave the zone once when we escorted him back to his departure airport. For me and the other guys it raised the risk of being attacked alot as a valuable target that can be kidnapped or killed always is a magnet for any kind of hostilities and with the pressure from above you suddenly have two things to do: Fulfill your original task while constantly having an eye on the person that needs special protection and attention.

Not really a war movie but a movie about James Nachtwey, a war photographer who´s made some of the most impressive photos from hotspots all over the world in the last decades. Check out more details on War-photographer Next one is really high on my list as it depicts the difficulties and problems when working under strict ROE´s and the frustration that results from it. It´s a BBC production named Warriors. In the US it´s sold as Peacekeepers. The film depicts the cruelties of the war in Bosnia. Check out the review
