They create a 3d effect by offsetting the image and display the pictures alternating left and right. The eye/brain assembles one picture out of these 2 pulsing pictures and that´s how you get the 3d impression. For the model listed here: The resolution is quite low. There are glasses with better displays available. You also have to keep in mind that you need a gfx device in your computer that is able to double the output rate with no loss in speed. If you´re used to have 85 hertz at your monitor you need to set your gfx card to 170 hertz to get a flicker free picture with the glasses. If you´re running less you will get a seriously bad headache after a while. There is a review of the glasses here that sums it up pretty good.

I agree that jets are overrated anyway. As long as they are integrated on a real simulation level they stay arcadish at best. For sure it´s fun to fly around doing low-level terrain flights, bombing runs and all that but to be honest I´d personally like to see a different approach from the companies when it comes to integrating vehicles into a mil-sim. Wouldn´t it be be a blast for longterm-motivation if it would take a learning curve to master vehicles ? For me it´s simply a bit boring to just hop into a helo or jet and take off within seconds and go straight for the target. I´m missing the working cockpit controls, I´m missing the different radars, anti-measures, missing ground control, inflight coms, the pysics that individually affect different airvehicles and all that. In the end flying a helo or jet ingame is not more than driving a hmmv after a while in most games. I´d like to have: - selectable loadouts - realistic startup sequence ( timewise ) - working cockpit (clickable) - realistic weapon systems - realistic physics simulation - ground com (vectors to target, traffic, guidance) Imo this would be a big chunk of longterm motivation for sim-gamers and in the end create a bigger comunity than all that hop-on vehicles we are served today. Just my 2 cents though.

I know this thread mostly circles around so-called "popular music", but I think it´s sometimes an interesting thing to take a peak into other directions of music. When I was 11 years old an uncle of mine gave me a birthday present that I still love. 27 years later I have lately dived into my records and somehow "rediscovered" that pearl. It´s Keith Jarrett, Köln Concert. It´s strictly piano-jazz, but if you take a peak you will be surprised how addictive it is. Listening to this record takes you on a journey and if you have the time and willingness to let this journey happen you will be rewarded with a brighter view on music and jazz as a whole. Most people tend to run away screaming when they hear the word "jazz". After listening to this record you will understand why "Jazz" is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact I think that this record is an alltime masterpiece as Jacksons Thriller album was. Listen to excerpts here.

My latest findings: Finally, after a longtime absence Grace Jones has released a new album last year that is worth a look. I like it very much, it´s smooth, arrogant and tasty Listen to excerpts here For fans of 80´s synthes and fat Roger Troutman sound from Zapp the latest Chromeo release is a must-have. Ok...little feedback about the computer. It´s terrific I tested Far Cry 2, Dead Space, Fallout 3 and some race-sims so far and I can play them all maxed out. Incredible. Next will be Arma The option for a second gfx card is not today or tomorrow. The computer should last some years and therefore I mentioned an optional second gfx card. Right now the PSU is really enough. Under heavy load the computer consumes 340 Watt measured with a device that is plugged in between the computer and the socket. The computer is a blast, running at 3.6 Ghz/core by default now and the Nvidia 280 definately rocks.

Because I´m an archaic type of guy No seriously...I don´t need bells and whistles with a case. I need to be able exchange drives, I need to be able to open it quickly and needs to have proper ventilation. That´s what I need for a case. I´m not buying a showroom computer or space shuttle. BeQuiet power supplies have a good reputation and are really quiet. That´s why I wanted to have it and also some backpower for a second Nvidia 280 card that most likely will find it´s way into the computer at some point. I have it overclocked by the manufacturer because he offers that service and I don´t want to spend the first days with trial and error. I know already that I can easily clock it up to 4x 4Ghz IF the other components cooperate. Still, right now I hardly can imagine a software component apart from Maya that would need such core-power. The games to come will certainly benefit from high core speeds but from what I´ve read in forums, techblogs, etc. the setup I have with the CPU, RAM and Gfx card seems to be pretty able of running todays games decently and certainly much better than my old system. Financially this is certainly a compromise but to be honest I really don´t see why I should buy the lastest stuff for 4000 Euro when I can have a good platform for 1200 Euro. My old computer basically lastet 6 years with overclocking, new motherboard, new CPU, new Ram, new PSU,etc, etc He simply has to make place now and that´s why I chose to buy a complete, tested, oc´ed, working and ready...I hope

I wanted to have a case that does not interfere with longer cards or produces problems with fans that are too close to slots. That´s why I selected that case. I can´t see what´s wrong with the 700 W BeQuiet powersupply. Please explain. I will see what it will be capable of as I´ll get it tomorrow. That´s the overclocking done by manufacturer. Of course they don´t go to the max as they give guarantee on the machine with oc´ed speeds. It will be my personal pleasure to find the limit.

I guess people should not forget that there are different interpretations of Islam and the things it tells it´s believers. When there´s a discussion going on about such stuff it´s only the extremists that get a big spotlight on their interpretation of their religion. Still, there are different believers of the same religion that do not live in extremism. They just don´t make that much noise, a behaviour that is also shown with moderate christians, moderate jews, moderate tree-lovers, moderate agnostics or whatever. I simply don´t think that it´s reasonable to attack a complete group of people fenced in in some kind of refugee camp just to get a few. Oh yes, Israel says they are hiding behind cilians. Sure, sure they do. Think about it. You have a neighbor that has a gun and has friends with mucho guns. He´s also the one who pays for your kid´s education and helps you with smuggled goods or directly with money. Without him your life would be worse and the life of your children would be worse. You will not go to police and tell them about him. He has guns and friends with guns. You will not do that. The israeli claim that palestinian civillians are supporting Hamas and are therefore responsible for the high deathtoll on civilian side is bullshit. The use of incendiary ammunition in crowded areas is murder. Intentional murder for political goals, not military goals. The result of the military strike is ridiculous at best. Oh yes, certainly the western world will have to pay for the rebuilding of infrastructure in the palestinian territories ONCE MORE just because the israelis still get a hard-on when having another war. What are the results of this war ? What did the israelis achieve ? I´d say it´s about time for the US to redifine their position towards Israel drastically. Right now the US support ethnic cleansing. That´s the bottom line.

I´ve bought it complete. I usually built my own computers but the difference in price is marginal and I get guarantee for an oc´ed system that is extensively stressed and tested before I get it. The price seems to be solid aswell. I payed ~1200 Euro for the system. It´s currently stress - tested by the manufacturer I assembled the same computer at alternate.de and it was infact more expensive than buying the whole package with watercooling already installed. Well, I´ll see how it will perform but to be honest I´m looking forward to it very much

Looks like there will be no other chance than to program a autohotkey exe for my netbook. I´ll keep you updated and eventually will post the exe in case someone else needs it. I´m wondering what I can expect from my new computer, related to Arma ingame performance and gaming performance in general. What are your thoughts ? Specs: Intel® Core™2 Quad Prozessor Q9550 4x 2.83Ghz @ 4x 3.3Ghz Asetek watercooling ASUS P5N-D Mainboard - NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI - 2x PCI-E x16 - 2x PCI-E X1 - 2x PCI - 4x DDR2 533/667/800 - 4x SATA2 - 7.1 Kanal Sound - 1x Gigabit-LAN - 8x USB 2.0 4096MB DDR2 PC2-6400 (2x 2048MB, dualchannel Mode) 1024MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 280 PCI-E, DVI 1000GB 7200upm SATA 16MB Cache Thermaltake Shark, 700W BeQuiet Windows Vista Ultimate Will it be enough for GTA 4, Far Cry 2 and Arma on high settings ?

There´s nothing better than some handy flash-boom-bang-war right before elections. The funny thing is that even military in israel now doesn´t really see any more sense in this "operation". Things are rolling out of hands if politicians decide about military operations and that´s what we see today. What do the israelis try to achieve again ? Funny ? No. War is no popcorn-cinema and BOTH of these craphead nations should finally overcome their obstruct views of their surrounding and make a deal for god´s sake. Israel has to give some country back. Palestinians need a country, not an isolated refugee camp. The things we see today on BOTH sides of the fence are a result of that stubborn policies over there always overshadowed by the nodders in Washington who are among others responsible for such violent outbreaks as they back those outbreaks. Set them on dry water, both of them. Isolate both and let them make a deal among themselves. No international partipipation, those 2 should have a round table and should leave it with one decision. Else, there will always be these absurd operations and absurd terrorist reactions.

No, there´s no way to keep it activated. Already contacted the manufacturer and they said that there is neither a bios option, nor a software or driver setting that would keep it active. The only way to activate it by now is to use the Fn+F3 keylink. @ch_123: It´s a One A 570 netbook with XP.

Finally I got a new PC in the pipeline, have moved, have DSL now , sold a house, bought a new one, am right at furnishing it, have installed my first WLAN for a really big area with booster antennas and repeaters and have bought me a netbook. I love it. Anyway here´s my problem: The netbook I have by default has the WLAN antenna deactivated. I have to activate it manually by pressing Fn+F3 each time I start windows. This is annoying as I want to have WLAN activated automatically whenever I start windows. My question: Is there someone out there who knows how to run the keycommands automaticallly whenever windows starts ? There is no option in windows that would activate WLAN permanently, neither is there a BIOS option to do such. I had a look at "AutoHotkey", a program that let´s you handle keyboard or mouseinputs but I´m having problems getting the right term for the "Fn" key. How can I simulate the "Fn+F3" keystroke and have it automatically run on windows-startup via autostart-folder ?

Absurd discussion. The sway of the weapon may be inaccurate but on the other hand noone is able to run around with the weapon up and ready all day long as portrayed in Arma and any other shooter I know. Apart from that I think direct hits on conceiled targets on 80 meters are more or less something you will hardly be able to achieve irl. Period. Moving and firing hardly ever works well beyond 15 meters. Anyway...moving and firing is not meant to be a precise method of engaging your opponent, it´s meant to surpress your enemy while you or your team is moving and therefore exposed. If anything, walking with your sights up all day long is unrealistic. Firing range and combat situations are not comparable in any way.

Having an odd problem right now. I have several convois going to a harbour for evacuation. There is a trigger with a radius of 25 at the end of the route, activated by OPFOR, set to repeatedly that calls a script to remove the units within a radius from the map. The script is: _clear1 = _this select 0; _remove = nearestObjects [_clear1, [], 25]; {deletevehicle _x} foreach _remove; exit My first problem is that only the vehicles get removed, the crew kisses the tarmack and dies. How can I delete their bodies aswell ? Second problem, the trigger is set to repeatedly, but when the second convoi arrives it doesn´t fire anymore and vehicles do not get removed. Can it be that the trigger itself also gets removed ? How can I solve that ? I also tried to setpos the units out on the sea with a variation from the script above but the trigger also only fires once and not more than that. Weird issue.

I´m still not willing to believe it but I guess in the end you´re right. Arma was a bad stunt on the OFP com. Hate me for that but that´s how I see it.

I guess it really depends on what you plan to do/work with in the future. While it may basically be a good idea to start from the scratch for indeep programming most companies that do software for midbusiness productions use packages for production. Totally selfprogrammed engines for customer used productions are rare these days, except for the highly values gaming sector. In fact it´s much cheaper and faster to use building engines that incorporate already existing segments like D3D, OpenGL (it´s not dead), all the millions of hardware inputs available or physics systems. The program I´m currently working with is Quest 3D. It uses all the features todays gfx standards can deliver, has hardware inputs from all thinkable devices, even VR gloves, uses the newton physics set but you don´t have to reprogram all these segments when creating a project. You "basically" use those segments by drag-and-drop for your own project. It´s a visual interface you work with. You start with a D3D renderer, attach your objects, behaviours, cameras, lighting, collisions, systems, calculations, interactions, real-time data from satellites, etc...basically per drag and drop. For sure all the offtheshelve things still have to be programmed C-style, but it´s very easy to learn as it´s a very logical and easy programming language to learn imo. With Quest 3D for example you more or less learn it by simply creating a project I guess it took me about 4 months to understand and learn the whole deal and that was about the time where my first big project was released (Interactive FPS walktrough of a factory producing segments for houses, including liquids and interactive information-terminals that show mpg movies, pdf´s, jpg´s and much more). In fact it was the most complicated part to import Maya animated objects into this D3D engine as the coords swapped and alpha channel in animations wasn´t supported at the time. Anyway what I´m trying to say is that with most modern applications you don´t necessarily have to be an old-school programmer. Look at me. I´m an ex-soldier with Abitur. That´s enough

Time-machine anyone ?

@Daddl: I seem to understand why more and more people are choosing the console but I´m afraid that some programs will not make it to the console. Those hardcore sims I like do not have that mainstream audience. No offence ment but I guess it will be those 2 different worlds of PC and console for a few more years. Apart from that I use the computer for work aswell so gaming on the same rig is just a handy coincidence @Fallout 3: I love it By accident I was crossing the river in the outskirts of DC when I ran into a herd of supermutant guards guarding the river. I guess this was one of the toughest fights I ever had. I am Level 6 now and was really, I mean really short on ammo. What a blast. The last one was sacked by my chainsaw. Incredible game. The details are great and the overall impression of the world is awsome imo. It´s scary to sneak around and the fights are tough. I guess I better troll back to more peacefull regions. Fantastic game. I love it. I have minimized the gfx-bugs by deactivating HDR and Bloom. Now it only happened once during umm...err...6 hours ? If you like RPG/FPS games get it. Edit: Typo ...btw, I had a really scary moment today when I was in the metro somwhere. A female raider ran up to me with a sword and the moment I killed her I realized that she was goddamn pretty. That was the first time that I felt "sorry" in a computergame that way. Weird. Edit2: ...and no, I did not undress her

Ok, I´m finally giving my old PC-system a rest. It´s simply not fast enough anymore. Changing components and upgrading it over 5 years always kept me happy but now it´s time to say Good-bye As my old system still uses IDE drives and an AGP gfx card I will most likely go for a completely new computer. I have around 1000 Euro to spend. For now I have had an eye on a setup like this: Intel® Core 2 Quad 4 x 3,3GHz OC/Q6600 Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 mit Intel® P45 Chipsatz 4GB OCZ Platinum XTX Edition DDR2-1066 RAM CL5 nVidia - GF GTX280 1024MB, DX 10 HDMI Samsung SH-S223Q 22fach SATA DVD-Brenner Samsung 500 GB, HD502LJ , 16 MB / 7200 U/min COMBAT POWER 750 W - Gaming Edition - 13,5 cm fan Realtek RTL8111B Gigabit Ethernet DTS 7.1 Surround Is the setup ok ? What can I expect from the system ? Do you have different suggestions ? Thx for input.

Very nice game so far. The intro sequence was something special. I´m currently sticking my nose around the old metro and have found the family. Looks like I´m addicted or something like that as I get the "shellshock" - vision pretty often. I also ran across one of those supermutants and killed it with the chinese officer sword So far it´s a great game imo. I have issues with gfx pretty frequently though. The lower section of the monitor gets messed up. Looks like overheating of card but once I alt-tab out and back in it´s gone. Pretty annoying though.

Great post Wolfrug. 100 percent agreed.
