Did you try ver 1.09b of Arma, quite a bit of performance improvement with that version (I didn't run Arma on my laptop by the time 1.09 came out, I'd like to see the difference tho)
-
I am not recommending anything per say but I believe the fastest card for AGP right now is still ATI X1950 series (if you dont mind the non DX10 support) I recently had a x1950gt for my AGP system (altho it died in 2 days, lol) My only other instock choice was a x1950pro at the time which is considerably faster but from reviews needed a 500watt power supply or better I chose the x1950gt as reviews from people were stating that they were running it with a 350watt power suppply still. Check out the performce of the x1950pro..its a good performer and can be had for under 200$ USD http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphic....art=318 Hmm, I was gonna post a link to Neweggs current stock of AGP 12 pixelpipeline video cards but they are sold out of all the screamers

You didn't specify what OS but I assume your using XP. I do exactly as you are on several ocassions (cable modem screws up and only works for one PC on ocassion, router wont get IP) I have a PC near my cable modem with 2 lan cards for when this happens, I hook the cable modem directly to the pc and use Windows Internet Connection Sharing. Select the cable modem connection as the link you want to share. Windows (on the ICS server) will assign a unique IP for the second network adapter (memory says around the 192.168.0.1 range) On your second pc you need to run the "setup  home/office network" and pick that another computer is hosting your connection Now you said you have a tablet pc..its been a while since I ran that (I have a Dell Axim PDA and it uses the shared connection fine using activesync or wireless) You may have to assign the IP within the shared range (192.168.0.2 etc..) or try proxy connection I believe I only have to shut-off dhcp on my router for this to work (the windows ICS server takes over and the router is just a switch at this point), luckily it hasn't happened in a few weeks otherwise I would remember a lil better

That laptop should run Arma.I ran it on my laptop: AMD 4000+ cpu, 1 meg ddr and a x600 Ati video card! I'm thinking maybe he has powersave settings too low? Not sure about Nvidia mobile but ATI also has power save settings for my video too, so also check power settings for the video

And update your directx

I've been buying and playing games since the pc was public. Technology is changing. games in the past were written for an OS that survived several years and fit on floppys, then cd's, now Vista comes on DVD.Could you imagine writing software for an OS that has become so complex. Were not talking about Solitare either. I had wondered and worried about the same thing. What do people do that don't have a fast connection? Well times have changed, a PC isn't the same without an internet connection.A PC is more complex now where most common people find them hard to operate. Internet connection is common place now and a needed necessity (how would you patch your OS?) Some run it as they got it for the life of the PC but don't do what most power users do with their PC's Alot of very good games are online only and can only be gotten by downloading. And are beta for years, some become obselete before sale. Have you noticed software stores have less PC games now ? Their market is more for consoles now.also notice that there are less software stores? Most complex PC games is distributed through the internet, for updates, patches and support You can buy and most can be downloaded online. I see a future of Internet software.I hardly go to the software store anymore Software store can't stock alot of games that are worth half as much the next month. And it's also related to support. The ol "if it don't work, bring it back" With a new OS every year or so its hard for all games to work on all systems nowadays. I wish BIS "good luck" with Arma II as you can see how hard it is to programs software nowadays and its a tough market. Games that last 7 years like OFP did are a thing of the past soon.

What kind of system do you have? Just that doesn't look like max settings to me. Do you have your desktop video card properties set to application controlled or locked them at a lower setting? edit: I just skimmed thru a fraps video I have and I notice grass only shows for like 10 meters

TankbusterSPAFF is saying that you didn't post any specs of your hardware. If its only crashing in multiplayer I suspect firewall/virus program
-
If your playing a online server, the view distance is controlled by the mission maker. Unless there is a script to set clients view distance you have no control. (MP Evolution you can set view distance ingame) Your view distance in your game settings has no effect

I am using a X2 6400+ 2x1mb cache, it overclocks easily but I don't. I had a X2 4200+ 2x512m cache but traded it off about a year ago. I used a PIV 3.0 gig 1meg cache for several years ,over a year ago I bought a Sempron64 3400+ 256meg cache that according to users reviews it overclocked easily and was fast. Well it did overclock nice, stock speed was 2.0 and it ran at 2.6 easily but was a pig, it took so long to open large files I went back to the PIV...it was faster cause of the 1meg cache The X2 4200+ only had 512 cache but was definately faster than the PIV Hard to say if having the larger cache will help your FPS in Arma, if its loading large files it should. My X2 6400+ converts a divx to dvd in a lil over 30 minutes whereas the PIV took 2 and a half hours. I'd go for the larger cache myself. The shared cache of C2D is attractive also

but im wondering should I buy it and then upgrade the CPU to a core 2 extreme qx9650 ?. My comp at the moment is too old and obsolete and I need to replace it as soon as possible , I dont really mind the prices to a certain extent because I want an exellent computer that can pay itself off within 2 years . Any opinions and suggestions would be appreciated. Nice PC for sure My thoughts... Why 667mhz RAM? Go with 800 or 1066, not much price difference and more bandwidth Power supply ok but could be stronger for a system of that nature considering that is a crossfire mb (if you decide to go 2 videocards later) How would it pay itself off in two years? You use it for work?

Ahh its unlocked again ! I really enjoyed the interview and I liked the idea it wasn't all business.I liked hearing about his personal life more so than the questions about Arma and ArmaII.Thats what these forums are for. Now all these wisecracks and slamming are going to ruin future interviews. No matter what gets said people pick it apart and rudely I might add Its hard pleasing everyone and some are unable to please anyways Cheers Jerry and Ondrej

And the related topic pops up nearby: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=71284 8800 user gathering, it is bugs (or classed as hardware error), the video card

What do you think about paid addons idea?
BraTTy replied to RN Malboeuf's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I would pay for addons. But the cost of having someone make a addon solely for me would probably cost more than just buying a whole game. And what good would it do if just I have the addon, how would others play with it and how would you control people spreading addons for free? USS Yorktown comes to mind...big project -
Are you ctrl-esc'n in all the other games too? With the size of the maps in Arma its probably the way it uses more resources than some other games. Also uses different sound system altogether. If its a bug in the code why doesn't it happen to me too? On 4 different PC's? Probably because I usually use same resolution in Arma as my desktop? I shut off most all background programs.I am also using XP (currently XP64 on my new system) You didn't state much specs.. Altho I recall a few users having the problem back when the 8800 video card came out.Drivers fixed the problems as far as I am aware. Most likely Vista users I really just think its your video drivers, possibly soundcard
-
I've played Arma on 4 different PC's and have not experienced the problems you are having. Must be something you are running or as stated earlier ,hardware faults
-
Nice interview, thank you Jerry and Ondrej One thing that got me through the whole interview is that Ondrej referring to Arma's name as "Armored Assault" But there is already a game by that name and I thought Arma's name was "Armed Assault" http://www.ient.com/publishing/armoredassault/armored.html Possibly just his accent and the way he pronouncing it but correction may be needed, sure sounded like Armored to me I still await ArmaII and any game from this publisher
-
Some PC's can't handle alt-tab'n (same idea as ctrl-esc) Usually video card related, just stay in the game. Don't alt-tab to windows Could try up/downgrade video drivers
