    Iron Lore shuts down

First of all I like downloadable games. If I can buy and download my games online it is my preferred choice.I don't have to go to the store this way and in the end it saves money all around. Lower PC sales may have other reasons...For example the numbers of free content available and mainly the reason that alot of people don't use their pc's for just gaming.Alot of people are just doing other things with their pcs.People that buy consoles are "gaming" and a  majority of people that have pcs aren't gaming anymore. My relatives mostly chat and do other stuff on the pc and never install a game.My kids and wife play online web-like games from Disney and Nicktoons.Sites you can join and play several new games a month for a fee usually (not sure if they are including those in pc game sales?) Sometimes I can keep busy downloading and trying free beta games and just the number of free stuff and content.reminds me of older days of BBS when you can spend every night trying out the new shareware releases. I think the market is flooded with too many games at the moment and I just wait a bit to see what games take off before I purchase anymore.I just wait for something better. But many nights I just am not gaming every day now. Theres plenty of other stuff to do (browse forums is another example) Money is more valuable nowadays (economy bad) and I don't just go buy a game or two a week anymore. I just buy good titles like BIS games ! edit: also to add. Most people that I help fix ther pcs (most of spyware or virus problems) Are not using their pcs for gaming. Its hard to convince them to buy say a 200$ video card to play games not to mention the price of games.People already have expenses of good internet connections and such. Major companies that market and sell pcs are not including gaming video cards.People think cause they have a 4gig cpu pc or they just bought it that its fast. When they buy and install their first game and it runs like crap they think something is wrong with their pc.I tell them its cause of their video card and they are confused as they just bought the pc and was told its fast or will run anything. So they stop buying games till they upgrade which never happens. Only serious gamers are dumb enough to spend 200-400$ or more on a video card.In the real world thats like buying a new tv or such. For that matter you can buy a whole new pc for 400$

    HD being accessed during ArmA.

I don't recommend setting it yourself tho...auto would be fine.Just check see what mode it discovers and if its not the correct one, something wrong edit: I'd like to add that often bios settings don't matter once it hits Windows, usually the driver used in Windows overrides bios settings (I remember when large hdd's came out, your bios didn't necessarily have to support it, all was fine within windows)

    CTD on Loading

Just make extra shortcuts, some loading no mods at all and shortcuts for the addons you need

    Textures gone mad :O

Neither your cpu or a 7600 will handle Arma at the highest settings. I would try up/downgrade your video drivers to get rid of the graphic glitches (could also be a setting your mb/video card can't handle...fast writes maybe?) And are you using 1.09b Arma patch? Maybe follow the pinned topic http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=58163 The last post...people would more likely help with more info and to avoid asking the common questions
  6. Shouldn't need to open ports. Have you tried without any addons/mods?

    Grainy UI, graphic problem

Usually that would be because of your quality settings in Windows display properties. If its set to performance

    Demo Issues.

Almost..you didn't specify what video card you have. I assume with a pixel shader 2.0 error that you don't have the required video card Specs require a ATI x800 or Nvidia 6600GT or better. Although the game will run on lesser (I played fine with a x600 video card) Sounds like you probably are trying to run the game with a fx5200 or similiar?
  9. I don't have a solution and possibly unrelated but my last pc was having a similiar problem. Mine would sit at "waiting for host" and would require a hard reset to shutdown Arma.It was getting annoying that maybe 1 out of 20 tries would it actually go into the game. Few reinstalls later finally fixed it and I am not sure what the problem was. I tried most everything while it was happening, mostly networking related but no avail. Single player worked fine and I have no addons or mods installed at all. I didn't have a wireless adapter on that machine but I do have a belkin wireless usb adapter and I hate the built-n wireless utility that comes with it. You think that'll work Sickboy? Just using the driver and let Windows handle the rest. I thought I tried that when I first got it.That would be kewl if it works like that I shall try again at some point

    4GB Problem under X86 (32bit) OS

That's cause it's XP x64, and this was already widely known Was replying to original posters topic and questions XP64 is a usable solution, I only added another verification I only saw (edit: NONE) other in this topic Vista 64bit in next patch is resolved so no worries I want to add that : Only problem I have had in XP64 as opposed to when I was running XP Sp2 Home My security card (pci 4 channel video input) has no 64 bit drivers and doesn't work but I didn't really want to leave my pc running 24/7 just for that.I installed it in a older pc I have I have about 20 games installed and all work from the start.Morrowind Oblivion is the only game that has some errors at startup but still works fine (I haven't mucked with it)

    4GB Problem under X86 (32bit) OS

4Gb ram here and no problems, no work arounds needed. No startup switches.Arma runs flawlessly AMD 6400+ cpu, 4 gig ddr 800,Ati HD 3870 512mb ddr4 video XP64 OS

    HD being accessed during ArmA.

In Windows, right-click "my computer" or some way of bringing up "System Properties" The "Hardware" tab and "Device Manager" Then under whatever controller is controlling your HDD's. (not the disk drive tab) Channel 1 or 2 will state the capabilities along with what mode your drive is currently using

    Invisible enemies issue

Is this only since 1.09b? I say that because I was playing prior to 1.09 with low-spec and don't recall that at all. First system was a laptop (Xp 4000+ cpu,1 gig ddr,x600 video) And I slapped a 7600gs 512mb videocard in my PIV 3.0 with 1 gig ddr memory and was using that and don't recall that problem ( i see the dots moving at 600-700 meters pull out binocs or scope and identify and fire) I know I didn't have that problem as I was sniping from the hills this way. I was using settings of low to very low on those PC's Next question...are you using Vista ? Just from reviews I see Vista has lesser performance than Xp currently. Mix that with your 2.0 gig per core cpu maybe is taxing performance ? I certainly don't have the problem currently using 1.09 but my system is also better now (X2 6400+,4 gig ddr2, ATI HD3870 512 ddr4 video, XP64) I see what your saying, too bad settings don't allow priorities for soldiers, vehicles (threats)
  15. Wow big topic still rolling.I have some comments. I can think of few reasons... Not as large of player base due to lower sales or whatever reasons (newness of Bis games wears off, OFP players didn't switch, game is basically same as OFP but with less content, advertising, not in-store for game-lurkers to grab and buy) Absence of linux servers takes a hit apparantly The beta reasons stated posts before hurts I originally bought OFP for SP, and I did play much CTF and PVP type missions.Which is why I am sorta lil bored with that. I am a vehicle type person and saw all the vehicles in OFP and had-to-have and that maybe brought alot of other players in awe to try the game also I play coop (evo is new to me as I didn't play it in OFP at all) I like the gameplay as it is similiar to the run and gun shooters and instead of playing those other games. I play Evo sometimes Kar's RTS server has died and I liked that too. I suppose as a long time OFP player, I look for something different I like how the AI is pretty good and it is challenging. You get upset at a human player that is good (the acusations of cheating start) I like the anims in Arma, pulling out your AT weapon takes seconds and is near realistic as opposed to BF2 when I run outta ammo with one weapon you pull out the other is quicker than reloading (suppose its somewhat realistic as your pistol is usually loaded and handy) Not stopping when you stop pressing forward is annoying too (makes you creep too far and get shot) With Armas hunting ground type gamestyle could you imagine a human player with steady shot sitting outta sight in a mountain sniping out everyone ? (realistic) Just wouldn't be fun I play coop as I just wanna have fun for a bit (sometimes hours) and I don't always want the organized preparation that needs coordinated effort to achieve a goal, as you usually only have one chance (one life) which is another type of Bis gameplay that I like too ,just don't always have the time or patience Coop often forces me to cooperate and finish the mission altho sometimes I'd like to just play for a bit and leave Which leaves me hard-to-believe that their isn't more PVP missions happening as I would like to join some for a bit and then leave.Just their isn't alot of missions going on for me to join I also think that Bis didn't make the sales needed to support this game for much longer, thats why it is up to us to improve. They need to concentrate on Arma2 and dazzle us and the public a lil better next time (more content, ranking option etc...) I still play BF2 (mainly only cause of the ranking and I am almost there) and recently see alot of new people again. we keep saying..lettme guess you just got the game for christmas ? So expect some new players next christmas for gun fodder, lets prepare

    GameCam V2 increasing FPS ??

Looking at the features gives me the impression that Gamecam must be changing your video settings on the fly

    HD being accessed during ArmA.

My last PC I formatted and reinstalled XP. I was playing Arma and it was stuttering bad like yours.I even went and bought a new soundcard so I could enable hardware accel and help the load a little. It mostly skipped at startup is why I thought it was the sound.(but it was the loading and hd access) I happen to notice that my main IDE HD was using PIO mode and that was the problem.I had to muck with chipset drivers till I got the right HD controller driver and it would run DMA mode

Is there a way to tow the m119 AT gun?

No , not that I aware of. I made the towable arty scripts and animations for OFP (Pak36) I am not aware of this feature in Arma

I'm just messing around.Linux server files would benefit us all.

Arma beta patch 1.09 - released

Why? A dedicated server doesn't need a graphics card since it doesn't render anything. So DX10 doesn't make any difference to Linux servers. Unless I'm missing something? Missed some minor detail: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> Minimum requirements Operating system: Windows 2000/XP Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel or AMD processor, or equivalent of. Memory: 512 MB RAM Video card: NnVidia Geforce 6600GT with 256 MB RAM, Pixel Shader 2.0 or ATI Radeon x800 with 256 MB RAM & Pixel Shader 2.0 Sound card: DirectX 9 compatible Hard disk: 6 GB free space Other: MS DirectX® 9.0c I don't see Linux listed

    Need help bad!

I don't believe it will run on that. Does it have a 6600gt/x800 or better video card? Its not gonna run on Intel Graphics thingy You need a 3d accelerator

    Hardware and settings for ArmA

That is saying that the memory on the video card is DDR3 which is very good and has no relation to the memory within your pc You will be able to use any AGP video card in your system, doesn't matter what your motherboard supports for system memory Your only concern is the size of the videocard (some are extremely long) and just depends on how much room in your case and nearby items

PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

No but some may use the pci-e connector. If you have a 500 watt you most likely already have this connector, often a video card will come with the adapter for standard 4 pin powersupply - pci-e 6 pin anyways
