  1. Hi, I've heard several reports that in my missions tanks slide into sea even though they are stationary on the beach - they slide into sea by themselves and blow up, ruining missions unplayable. NO such problems were evident in v1.42 or earlier. Here's the link to missions if you want to verify this (The Band of Comrades coop 'campaign'): http://www.netitsoft.com/blake/Band_of_Comrades_e1-5.zip The bug occurs in Ep.2 mission in the beginning (in which your squad start at the beach with some armor support) and Ep.3 mission (where your one objective is to protect T-80 tanks at the beachhead) I hope you can find a solution to this annoying bug! Best of luck, -Blake

Like 'Comrades in Arms' or something OK enough already about this issue....

I mean, wtf. Map starts, some nice cutscenes of a guy taking a leak. Next thing you notice, you and your 3 mates are dead. We managed to run about 10-20 meters in various directions :-) Tried it about 3 times with the same result. I mean, we can't suck that much :-)<span id='postcolor'> Well that mission isn't quite so impossible. Just get those weapons to hand FAST. 2 black ops are darting in from your left, 7 more on the right including a MG jeep. Take down the guys coming from the left first then take cover behind the wall and ambush the rest. Hinds explode but there's SU-25 parked intact, try to catch that before those m1's arrive... hope it helps

Did bis do the right thing?

Just my quick 2 Euro cents here... I've been doing missions for OFP since the demo came out, now totalling 20+ missions. (I am not claiming here they are all great). But I have thrown countless of hours of making them, learning the editor etc. just for the fun of it. All the missions that people have made kept OFP alive this far, since the editor was open to everybody who wanted to give it ago. Now, the communitiy is full of missions that pump new life to the OFP and make it sell better! Many of them are much better than the canned ones! The decision to give editor to chosen few is plain wrong, look at other games. Half-Life mods weren't inspired and started by the 'chosen few' - they came out of pure creativity of the common man! Giving equal chances to everybody is cornerstone of democracy you czechs should have learned that by now! Sorry for this outburtst but I feel extremely angry of this decision and word-eating!

Intro-skipping could probably be implemented via radio commands, since they can be used while intro plays (since there is no genuine intro possible in MP missions: the stuff you see in intro is included in the actual mission also). Intro in the first mission is rather long but they are shorter in other missions. I'll try to put up intro-skippable versions of the missions...

I understand you pain Kegetys. Your pioneering work has been abused in countless addons, on many occasions without any credit. But those modified missions seemed just to add slots for more players. I have no problem if some people need additional manpower to play them But as Kegetys pointed out, it's pretty immature to take credit for somebody elses' stuff...

    Desert storm released

Mod seems fine for a first version. At least worthy of title 'first total conversion mod for ofp'. Too bad installation needs some work but maybe it will be refined in the future? One "problem" with this mod is that dedicated servers can only run Desert Storm mod and not the original simultaneously so all people joining a Desert Storm servers need the entire mod. On the other hand it's the same thing with HL total conversion mods of course... I hope you make a pile of good coop maps into this promising-looking mod so dedicated servers running desert storm will become more frequent! And hey AvonLady I think you're being too harsh, the guys behind Desert Storm have obviously put in a lot of effort into this mod and I think it has very much potential of becoming one of the standard mods, unlike some crap "miniuziwithsilencer_and_1000round_drummagazine+laserdotsight.pbo" addons which will never reach large crowds...

The us has never lost a war

The war of 1812 was really a backstab move by the US against the Brits, since they were fighting against Napoleon's vast empire with the Russians. The US saw an oppoturnity to seize Canada but the attack was repulsed, and as mentioned above, even the White House was burned by British redcoats. In that conflict i'd sat US got what it deserved

    Finnish is buying new mbt's

I really envy some Swedish armor, like the brand-new 'Combat Vehicle 90' IFV, really a first-class vehicle. Too bad it lacks ATGM but perhaps 40mm Bofors will do the job? On the other hand I've heard the vehicle is very expensive, maybe I'd take a company of BMP-2s than one CV-90

    Soviet - afghan campaign

Russian OFP modders could unite their skills and create a good Afganistan 1979-1989 total conversion mod. Resistance could play as pro-Communist Afgans, West as Mujahideen etc. The campaign could last for years and battles would take place only monthly or more seldom so it would feel kinda realistic 'Afganistan tour of duty' lasting 10 long years. Too bad OFPs Islands ruin the feeling of inland war, but maybe this can be fixed when terrain editor comes out... This mod definately needs to be done!

  17. I'd love to see good multinational cold war-era campaign with entire Warsaw pact vs. NATO. You could have campaigns for both sides in that one, so nobody would complain for it being partial. It would be great to optionally play as Pact allies like USSR, East-Germans, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, etc. and NATO countries like West-Germany, France, UK, USA, Norway etc. Call it Red Storm Rising or whatever...maybe a mod if BIS is not interested?

    Finnish is buying new mbt's

I wouldn't want to be in Leo 1 or any tank when it's under water, with only snorkel bringing the air into vehicle It seems Leopard 2 was uncontested choice for the Finnish Army but I would have liked to see some competition with different armor manufacturers, Sweden ran exhaustive tank trial in mid-90s with T-80, LecLerc, Leopard 2 and M1 tanks being tested meticulously. Leo 2 ended up as the winner, LecLerc didn't perform so well even though french manufacturer gave bottle of fine cognac with the vehicle No info how M1 performed against Leo 2 though, perhaps there was no considerable difference other than the price tag. But I wonder if US was trying in any way market it's surplus M1A1 + upgrade packages to Finland...Leopard 2 A4s are surplus vehicles of German Bundeswehr, but it's certain that US also has surplus M1A1s on sale since more of them have been manufactured than Leo 2s?

No government is preventing frustrated individuals from going abroad to fight as mercenaries. But by doing that those individuals are not representing their fatherland, just their personal beliefs and motivations. It would be politically unwise to officially send young men to foreign countries to fight and gain combat experience. Today's wars are mostly civil wars raging in third world countries so the combat experience gained from such fighting may be hard to implement on much more organized modern defence forces.

    Finnish is buying new mbt's

It's about goddamn time the army brass admits that those ex-DDR T-72M1 tanks are NOT 'quality armor bought with the price of scrap metal' like they claimed back in 1995. Instead, they're indeed scrap metal with with a scrap metal price tag (If you call ca. 50.000 Euros/each cheap) Sweden made a wise decision buying mixed bag of quality surplus West-German made Leopard 2 A1's back then, and afterwards upgrading them to A5 standard. They also got still cheap and useful BMP-1 APCs from ex-East Germany. From an armor magazine I read they got also Mt-LB tracked APCs for ridiculous 6.000 SEKs a piece (1000 Euros)! So they certainly made more reasonable choises than Finland in their defence purchases. I hope Finnish Defence Forces succesfully skip the parliamentary hassle on new tank purchases as they faced fierce resistance from some MPs when Attack/Escort helicopters were hot topic a while ago. Good timing for those tanks since parliament is currently engaged in a debate about new nuclear powerplant so tanks may have a chance of 'slipping through'

    Whats up with co-op?

Fubar, you really are not alone here...OFP coop still gives me the kicks and adrenaline rush after 8 months of release. Coop really brings the best out of Flashpoint, since TDM/CTF games are usually plain silly Quakish rushing and fragging. With coop the missions can be somewhat realistic and objective-based requiring actually some thinking. But it's sad to see public servers flooded with 4 vs. 4 CTFs which are getting kinda boring after a while. I bet those people would have much better time with coop if they'd give it a chance, without the damn respawn of course Other game developers could have taken a note about OFP's flexibility in coop and dm. MOHAA could have been so much more fun with coop, now it's dusting my shelf since TDM or objective matches are really nothing more than quakish fragfests. Anyway, OFP is the king
  22. Many wars have seen home-made or military made throwable Anti-tank weapons made by the military or resistance movements. It would be logical to add molotov cocktail (bottle with burning cloth in the end, filled with gasoline) or throwable satchel charge (basically a lump of explosives with burning detonator cord). Now anti-tank warfare composes almost entirely of missiles or LAWs. It would be great to use some close assault Anti-tank weapon in street or forest fighting, requiquiering nerves and courage. I'm sure everyone who has seen Saving Private Ryan remembers the molotovs and explosives they used against German tanks. The current Satchel Charge is meant for spec ops hit-and-run attacks and they cant be thrown at tanks etc. like molotovs. So BIS could implement some close-assault AT weapons for Resistance and Civilian troops
  23. You could still make throwable satchel charges for civilians/resistance or molotovs, Im sure they would me still effective against lighter armor, bmp's, trucks etc. Like, how about making mod that makes grenade explode like the current mortar round? 2-3 will take out a bmp.

    OFP Postmortem

Very interesting insight on project OFP. You could almost feel the stress and tension as they killed bugs on the edge of deadline... Excellent reading, recommended to every OFP nut
